If their hearts are true, grab a pal or a confidante and head The Golden Girls pop-up restaurant, which opens for business in Los Angeles on Saturday — which is National Golden Girls Day.

Fans of the beloved sitcom can live like Dorothy, Rose, Blanche and Sofia in their Shady Pines apartment, thanks to the new, full-service restaurant experience called The Golden Girls Kitchen.

The eatery is presented by the events company Bucketlisters and was the brainchild of Derek Berry, the guy who brought to life interactive experiences based on Breaking Bad, Saved by the Bell and other fan favorites.

For $50, you can sample items like The Dorothy: A Miami Style Sandwich, Sophia’s Lasagna, Blanche’s Georgia Style Cookies, Rose on Rosé and, as was often eaten in the girls’ kitchen, cheesecake.

Of course, there are plenty of Instagram opportunities to fill your feed, like a replica of the Girls’ iconic kitchen, and their relaxing lanai.

If you can’t swing it to L.A., the experience will be headed to New York, San Francisco, Chicago, and, appropriately for the Florida-set show, Miami through next Spring.

‘Minions’, ‘Thor’ push monthly box office past $1 billion for the first time since the pandemic began

It took a bunch of yellow mumblers and the gods of thunder to do what hasn’t been done since the COVID-19 pandemic began: push the domestic box office past the billion dollar mark for a single summer month.

July began with Minions: The Rise of Gru becoming a blockbuster right out of the gate. Perhaps due in part to the “Gentleminions” TikTok trend, the movie starring the voice of Steve Carell opened to more than $100 million in the States, setting a July 4 box office record. That movie has since passed $300 million on these shores.

Thor: Love and Thunder opened July 8 to $143 million, on its way to a domestic haul of $280 million as July comes to a close.

Also still boosting the box office for the month of July is the year’s biggest film, Top Gun: Maverick. That film has made $637 million domestically and nearly $1.3 billion worldwide.

The Wrap points out that also contributing to July’s $1.1 billion finish was the late June release Elvis, which has made more than $70 million here, as well as last weekend’s $49 million opening of Jordan Peele‘s Nope.

Martin Scorsese is once again working with Leonardo DiCaprio for another based-on-real-life project for Apple, this one called The Wager.

ABC Audio has confirmed that the pair, who recently wrapped work on the theater-and-Apple TV+-bound Killers of the Flower Moon, will once again team up, this time for the drama set in the 1700s.

Based on David Grann’s highly anticipated new book, The Wager: A Tale of Shipwreck, Mutiny, and Murder, the film will follow the crew of the British naval ship HMS Wager, which was shipwrecked while on a secret mission to recover gold from a Spanish galleon.

“Wrecked on a desolate island off the tip of South America, the captain and crew must struggle to survive and maintain order while battling not only the most extreme elements but their own human natures,” Apple teases.

Considering the real story, that’s actually underselling it.

It’s likely DiCaprio will be playing the doomed mission’s Captain David Cheap, who was mutinied by some of his crew. While some escaped the island without him, others were imprisoned by the Spanish, while still others managed to return home to England and reported their captain dead. Years later, Cheap made it back himself and was eventually cleared of wrongdoing.

DiCaprio and Scorsese also worked together on The Wolf of Wall Street, The Departed, Gangs of New York, The Aviator, and Shutter Island.

With reboots of Full House and Roseanne spin-off The Conners on the air now, another Reagan-era series is returning to TV.

Max Headroom was perhaps more famous for actor Matt Frewer‘s intentionally glitchy computer characters gracing Coke commercials back in the day, but now the subversive ABC series that bore his name is getting another shot.

Deadline reports Elijah Wood‘s SpectreVision production house is backing the series for AMC, with Halt and Catch Fire co-creator Christopher Cantwell writing it.

Max Headroom ran for just two seasons on ABC, with Frewer playing both the supposedly artificially intelligent character and also its alter ego, journalist Edison Carter, but it remained an influential project, referenced in shows like Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., and by music artists including Selena Gomez and Eminem.

Frewer is returning to star in the series and is also co-producing, according to the trade.

Carter’s dogged reporting focused on corruption and corporate greed, and the show continually poked fun at network TV executives and the news business — which naturally rankled actual TV execs. It was also ahead of its time for its then-futuristic look at our modern, interconnected world.

The character even inspired a legendarily still-unsolved commercial TV broadcast hijacking, in which a mock-up of the character took to the airwaves over two TV stations in Chicago.

The pandemic era love story Alone Together has officially hit theaters.

Written, directed by, and staring Katie Holmes, it follows June, a food critic who leaves New York City to quarantine during the pandemic, and she finds love in an unexpected place.

It’s Holmes’ first feature film wearing all three hats and shared some of her influences for the project, telling ABC Audio, “Well, I love this the style of filmmaking of John Cassavetes, of like Woman Under the Influence and Shadows – some of those scenes were just all improve.”

“And then like just the idea of that, you know, finding, not being afraid to improv something, finding moments,” she adds. “And then specifically is like ManhattanAnnie HallWhen Harry Met Sally, things like, you know, a lot of Diane Keaton.”

Holmes also shared that one of her goals in making Alone Together was to “create a time capsule story.”

“You know, like for all of us, to remember those little things that we were all doing to cope with what was happening in the world,” the actress explained.

“I also wanted to create a love story with hope and the idea of this disaster as our backdrop, but a disaster that we all experienced and where, you know, two people kind of or do make the best of it and really do have something beautiful come out of it.”

Actor Bob Odenkirk is reflecting on the past year after having a heart attack on the set of his hit show Better Call Saul in 2021.

Odenkirk tweeted Thursday, saying he is appreciative of the support that has come his way.

“A Thank You to you, whoever you are,” Odenkirk tweeted. “A year ago today I briefly flirted with ‘quietus’ and this elicited a wave of goodwill and warmth towards me. I will forever feel unworthy of it. I will also always be appreciative and look to pass it on. Thank you. No reply necessary.”

In July 2021, the 59-year-old Emmy-nominated star was rushed to the hospital when he collapsed while shooting the sixth and final season of the AMC series in New Mexico.

A few days after the incident, the actor revealed he suffered “a small heart attack” and thanked fans for the “outpouring of love.”

“I’m going to be ok,” Odenkirk wrote at the time, mentioning the doctors who fixed a clogged artery without surgery. He said of the support, “It’s overwhelming. But I feel the love and it means so much.”

In March, the actor recalled on Sirus XM’s The Howard Stern Show that it was the on-site medical expert, Rosa, who started CPR on him right away.

“After 12 minutes, she had someone take over while she ran to her car to get her own defibrillator, as the set didn’t have one,” he said.

“When the defibrillator doesn’t work once, that’s not good,” the actor explained. “When it doesn’t work the second time, that is kind of like — forget it. But then they jacked it up a third time, and it got me back to a rhythm.”

“Take CPR classes,” he told Stern. “Because you can save lives.”

Netflix

The official teaser trailer for Guillermo del Toro‘s Pinocchio has arrived.

Academy Award-winning filmmaker Guillermo del Toro‘s version of the classic Carlo Collodi novel reimagines the famous story of the wooden marionette, Pinocchio, voiced by Gregory Mann, brought to life by a grieving woodcarver, Geppetto (David Bradley) in stop-motion form.

The teaser trailer begins with narration from Cricket, voiced by Ewan McGregor, as scenes showing Geppetto’s loss and Pinocchio’s creation are displayed.

“From my many wanderings on this earth, I had so much to say about imperfect fathers and imperfect sons. And about loss and love,” Cricket says. “I’ve learned that there are old spirits who rarely involve themselves in the human world, but on occasion they do.”

“I want to tell you a story — it’s a story you may think you know, but you don’t. A story of the wooden boy,” he continues.

The film’s star-studded cast also features Finn Wolfhard, Tilda Swinton, John Turturro, Cate Blanchett, Ron Perlman, Tim Blake Nelson, Burn Gorman and Christoph Waltz.

Del Toro previously opened up about what the story of Pinocchio means to him.

“No art form has influenced my life and my work more than animation and no single character in history has had as deep of a personal connection to me as Pinocchio,” he said in a statement.

“In our story, Pinocchio is an innocent soul with an uncaring father who gets lost in a world he cannot comprehend,” his statement continued. “He embarks on an extraordinary journey that leaves him with a deep understanding of his father and the real world. I’ve wanted to make this movie for as long as I can remember.”

The film hits select theaters and Netflix in December.
