The musical broke box office records there and at its later home, Theatre Royal Haymarket, later that year.
Heathers: The Musical returned to the Haymarket for another successful West End season in 2021, and it also toured the United Kingdom before returning to The Other Palace in November 2021, where its hit run continues.
Like the film, the musical centers on Ryder’s Veronica Sawyer finally taking on Westervelt High School’s dreaded, identically monikered mean girls known collectively as The Heathers, with the help of the mysterious new kid, J.D., played by Christian Slater in the film.
The Roku version will star theatrical players Ailsa Davidson as Veronica and Simon Gordon as J.D., as well as Vivian Panka as Heather Duke, Teleri Hughes as Heather McNamara and Maddison Firth as Heather Chandler.
Their film counterparts were played, respectively, by Shannen Doherty, Lisanne Falk and Kim Walker.
According to Roku, the musical will be filmed at its original venue.
Tom Cruise is already famous for performing death-defying stunts on camera, but in recent years, he’s been rivaling Bill Murray for his ability to randomly show up and give fans a story they’ll tell the rest of their lives.
Such was the case recently on the side of a mountain called High Craig in Umbria, England. Sarah and Jason Haygarth tell The Sun they’d reached the 2,440-foot summit with their dog, Edward, when a helicopter approached and landed.
Out popped the Mission: Impossible star.
“Sorry for disturbing your peaceful walk with all the noise — I like your dog,” the star, carrying a blue parasail, reportedly told the gobsmacked pair.
Sarah says she asked the Top Gun hero about the cliff, “Are you really going to jump off there?”
According to The Sun, Cruise nodded and shouted before taking the leap, “See you later, folks.”
It’s thought that Cruise was preparing for a sequence for the next Mission: Impossible film.
The encounter wasn’t the first time Cruise shocked some English fans.
As reported in 2021, Cruise landed his helicopter at a family’s yard in Warwickshire after weather closed the local airport.
And according to his pal James Corden, he texted the late night host later that year to see if he could park in his yard so the pair could catch up.
Mission: Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One is set for release July 14, 2023.
At the Los Angeles premiere of his new action comedy, Bullet Train, Brad Pitt let it be known that, contrary to reports, he’s not ready to retire.
The 58-year-old Oscar winner might be AARP certified, but he insisted to Deadline that his comments to GQ about being on the “last leg” of his career could have been clearer.
“No!” was how Pitt responded with a laugh when asked if he was actually planning to hang it up, after an onscreen career nearly 80 movies long.
“I know, I really have to work on my phrasing,” the actor joshed.
“No, I was just saying, you know, I’m, like, past middle age [and] I want to be specific how I spend those last bits, whenever they may be.”
Pitt also has an impressive cache of work under his belt as a producer: His Plan B Entertainment has shepherded movies like The Departed, 12 Years a Slave and Moonlight to Best Picture Academy Award wins, and also produced Oscar winners Minari and The Big Short, and hits like World War Z.
His Friday release, Bullet Train, was directed by Pitt’s friend and former stunt double David Leitch and has Pitt playing a very unlucky assassin on an easy mission that goes awry in nearly every way.
Road House, the cult classic in which Patrick Swayze played a psychology degree-holding hombre who also happens to be the best bouncer in the world, is getting a reboot led by Jake Gyllenhaal.
ABC Audio has confirmed that Doug Liman, director of Swingers, Mr. and Mrs. Smith and the Tom Cruise sci-fi epic Edge of Tomorrow, is calling the shots for Amazon Studios.

Amazon Studios teases this iteration will have Gyllenhaal playing “a former UFC fighter who takes a job as a bouncer at a rough-and-tumble roadhouse in the Florida Keys, but soon discovers that not everything is what it seems in this tropical paradise.”
For his part, Liman said, “I’m thrilled to put my own spin on the beloved Road House legacy. And I can’t wait to show audiences what Jake and I are going to do with this iconic role.”
Production gets underway in the Dominican Republic this month.

“This is an exciting time for Shaun and for us at ESA,” notes ESA’s Director for Human and Robotic Exploration Dr. David Parker. “We’re woolly very happy that he’s been selected for the mission and we understand that, although it might be a small step for a human, it’s a giant leap for lambkind.”
“With a keen passion for exploring, Shaun took flight on the special Airbus ‘Zero G’ A310 aircraft during one of its parabolic flights that recreates the ‘weightless’ conditions similar to those experienced in space,” the ESA noted in its announcement. “Under the supervision of an ESA team, this flight prepared Shaun for his role as a space traveller in his [2019] film ‘A Shaun the Sheep Movie: Farmageddon.“

The Marilyn Monroe estate has come to the defense of Ana de Armas.
After the trailer dropped for Blonde, the upcoming drama in which de Armas is cast as Monroe, many viewers took issue with the actress’ accent and criticized her for not sounding more like the Hollywood legend.
Despite what some people think,Variety reports that Marc Rosen, president of entertainment at Authentic Brands Group, which owns the Marilyn Monroe Estate, applauded the casting decision.
“Marilyn Monroe is a singular Hollywood and pop culture icon that transcends generations and history,” he said. “Any actor that steps into that role knows they have big shoes to fill. Based on the trailer alone, it looks like Ana was a great casting choice as she captures Marilyn’s glamour, humanity and vulnerability. We can’t wait to see the film in its entirety!”
Based on the novel of the same name by Joyce Carol Oates and also starring Oscar winner Adrien Brody and Emmy winner Julianne Nicholson, Blonde debuts September 28 on Netflix.

Following last week’s shocking rose ceremony which split the the guys into two groups — team Gabby and team Rachel — Monday’s episode of The Bachelorette found the men boarding the Virgin Voyages Valiant Lady and setting sail across Europe on their journey to find love.
The first stop was Paris, France, where Gabby and Jason shopped for berets in the district of Montmartre, and Rachel and Tino learn the art of French crêpes near Notre Dame. Both dates went well and both men received roses.
The next day, Gabby’s group date challenged her men to show their willingness to fight for her love — literally — with a series of boxing matches, cheered on by Rachel and her group of guys, who seemed more focused on the competition than they were on her. Spencer earned Gabby’s date rose, while Rachel’s men got a tongue lashing from Rachel, who expressed her disappointment in them, saying they made her feel “hurt” and “unseen.”
Later, Rachel and her group paid a visit to a castle for a lesson in the art of romance, where Tyler‘s vulnerability earned him a private dinner with Rachel and a date rose.
Rachel’s nearly perfect day was spoiled, however, when James “Meatball” — who got a second chance after originally turning down her rose at last week’s ceremony — revealed Hayden’s vulgar comments about the ladies, in response to their reaction to him calling Gabby “rough around the edges” last week. That led Rachel to take matters into her own hands, showing Hayden the door.
Meanwhile, Logan, another of Rachel’s suitors, secretly revealed to host Jesse Palmer that he had stronger feelings for Gabby. Unsure how to handle the situation, the 26-year-old videographer went on to accept Rachel’s rose at the final rose ceremony.
Rachel also sent Jordan H. home, while Gabby eliminated Kirk and Quincy.
Here are the remaining 14 men, following Monday’s rose ceremony:
Rachel:
Aven, 28, a sales executive from San Diego, California
Ethan, 27, an advertising executive from New York, New York
James, 25, a meatball enthusiast from Winnetka, Illinois
Logan, 26, a videographer from San Diego, California
Tino, 28, a general contractor from Playa Del Rey, California
Tyler, 25, a small business owner from Wildwood, New Jersey
Zach, 25, a tech executive from Anaheim Hills, California
Gabby:
Erich, 29, a real estate analyst from Bedminster, New Jersey
Jason, 30, an investment banker from Santa Monica, California
Johnny, 25, a realtor from Palm Beach Gardens, Florida
Mario, 31, a personal trainer from Naperville, Illinois
Michael, 32, a pharmaceutical salesman from Long Beach, California
Nate, 33, an electrical engineer from Chicago, Illinois
Spencer, 27, an army officer from Chicago, Illinois
The Bachelorette returns Monday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
