People=…well, you know: Slipknot’s Clown plans to keep wearing mask post-COVID because “people are filthy”

Katja Ogrin/Redferns

As a member of Slipknot, Shawn “Clown” Crahan is used to wearing a mask. But that’s not the reason he’ll continue to wear a face covering, even in a post-pandemic world.

Speaking with Forbes, Crahan revealed that he’s “not ever going to stop wearing a mask, COVID or not.” Why? Because “people are filthy all over the world.”

“We live in a filthy world, and we live in a world where people don’t wash their hands, they wipe their nose and they open the door and then you touch it,” Clown says. “I have four children and I know what it’s like to drop your kid off at school and they come home sick and then you’re sick.”

Of course, Clown’s comments probably aren’t surprising to anyone who’s heard Slipknot’s Iowa classic, “People=S***.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Clown speaks about the progress on new Slipknot music, and how the pandemic has affected the “highly intense” recording process.

“When we were in the studio if we were in the control room and around the engineers that worked for the studio, we had to wear masks,” Crahan explains. “If we were in the live room where we were recording around each other, and we had all been tested, we didn’t have to wear masks. But, if an employee was in there we’d have to put them on.”

“Now I think about nine months ago and it was even more restrictive,” he adds. “So it’s been very challenging to say the least.”

Slipknot’s most recent album is 2019’s We Are Not Your Kind.

Paul McCartney says the Beatles “keep going” because there are still “little things” to discover

Courtesy of Hulu

Paul McCartney‘s new Hulu docuseries McCartney 3, 2, 1 is the latest installment of what’s shaping up to be a huge year for Beatles and Beatles-adjacent material.  That includes the pending release of Peter Jackson‘s Get Back, to the just-released 50th anniversary edition of George Harrison‘s All Things Must Pass, to McCartney’s own album, McCartney III Reimagined.  But McCartney thinks there will always be a demand for Beatles material, because there’s always going to be someone out there who’s yet to discover them.

“There’s so much stuff out there. But I think that’s one of the reasons The Beatles keep going — because you keep discovering another little thing,” Paul tells Rolling Stone in a new interview featuring him and his 3,2,1 co-star Rick Rubin. “I always think everyone’s heard all the stories. As you get older, you think, “Am I just repeating all my stories?”

Paul Continues, “But I rationalize, well, there’s only one answer to the question, ‘How did you meet John [Lennon]?’ I can’t make another meeting up. I can maybe try and explain how we met in a slightly different way. But I’ll still talk to someone and they say, ‘What? You dreamed [the melody of] “Yesterday”?’ And so I’ll tell the story again, but it’s like, ‘You sure you haven’t heard this?’ But not everyone has.”

And, as Paul points out, “As we go on and the young people come onboard, there’s a lot of stuff they haven’t heard.”

You can hear Paul tell a lot of those stories in McCartney 3, 2, 1. Rubin believes the the docuseries is a hit because “it doesn’t come across as product.” Or, as Paul notes, “People feel like they’re watching us talk. Which is exactly what’s happening.”

Report: New ruling orders Kelly Clarkson to pay majority of kids’ education costs

Last month, Kelly Clarkson was ordered to pay her soon-to-be-ex-husband Brandon Blackstock almost $200,000 dollars a month in spousal support. Now it appears she’ll also be the one to take care of her children’s pricey school tuition.

TMZ reports that new docs, that were filed Monday, shows additional responsibilities Kelly will have pay for, including the lion’s share of her children River and Remington‘s education.  The judge ordered the singer to pay 70 percent of the tuition for their private school and related expenses.

The papers also revealed that the American Idol winner rakes in roughly $1.5 million a month, while Brandon’s monthly income is far less: $10,000 per month.

According to TMZ, a judge also ruled Monday that Kelly won’t have to foot the bill for their Montana home, which costs about $81,000 a month to maintain. This upholds a previous court decision made last month. The responsibility of paying the ranch’s bills fall to Blackstock, who is the primary owner of the residence.

Kelly and Brandon wed in 2013 and went their separate ways in June 2020, sparking a bitter divorce battle. Legal papers obtained by ABC News showed that, Kelly must pay Blackstock $150,000 per month while their divorce is sorted out, and an additional $45,601 per month in child support for River and Remy, who are seven and five, respectively.

Billie Eilish says everything from her new hair color to her new album’s name “really just happened”

Andrew Lipovsky/NBC

Billie Eilish admits she’s not much of a planner and is more of a spur-of-the-moment type of person.

Appearing Monday on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, the teen singer gave fans a behind-the-scenes peek of the planning process behind her number-one album Happier Than Ever.

As it turns out, Eilish’s decision to swap her black-and-green hair for platinum blonde locks in time for her new album wasn’t something she’d planned in advance.

“It really just happened,” Eilish explained.  “I didn’t know what I was going to do at all, I mean, until recently.  Like, almost when the album was over, I didn’t even know what it was going to be called! I didn’t know what the vibe was going to be… I didn’t know what the artwork should be.”

Eilish said the only thing she knew for certain was how the album was going to feel.  She explained that everything eventually clicked “one night when I was listening to [torch singer and actress] Julie London and it was raining, and my fire pit was on…it just hit me and I realized how I wanted the album to be portrayed.”

The 19-year-old also talked about directing her own videos, saying she took the plunge because “I feel like when you have your own idea and you know what you want, sometimes it’s just the best way to go about it and just do it yourself.”

Doing it herself also meant no stunt doubles, even for her high octane “NDA” music video.  But Eilish said she wasn’t “nervous” to have “25 stunt drivers… zooming past me,” adding that she found the experience “fun.”

She closed out the night by performing her album’s title track, “Happier Than Ever.”

Romantics guitarist Mike Skill says his new solo version of “What I Like About You” “kicks a**”

Courtesy of Mike Skill

Romantics lead guitarist Mike Skill recently released a new version of his band’s classic 1980 tune “What I Like About You.” It’s available now via streaming services and will be included on Skill’s debut solo album Skill…Mike Skill, due out on September 10.

Skill tells ABC Audio that he thinks his new version “kicks a**.”

Mike co-wrote “What I Like About You” with founding Romantics drummer Jimmy Marinos, who sang lead on the original track.  But since frontman Wally Palmar handled lead vocal duties on most of The Romantics’ tunes, Skill says his solo project gives him the chance to make it “known that I’m able to get out there and sing songs as well.”

The updated rendition of “What I Like About You” features Skill on both lead and backing vocals, guitars and bass, with current Romantics member Brad Elvis on drums.

Mike reveals that he began recording the new version so the The Romantics could offer it for use in movies, TV shows and commercials, but that plan fell through.  Then, when the COVID pandemic last year quashed plans for the band to celebrate their 40th anniversary, Skill found himself with extra time on his hands.

He began gathering songs for his first solo album, and decided to include his new version of “What I Like About You” in the project, and release it as a single to mark its 41st anniversary.

To record his updated version, Skill says, “I brought out the old Hiwatts, the same amps I used on the original song. The Rickenbacker [guitars]…I wanted to make sure it had that really crisp, raw energy — a real…thump to it. And it came out that way. [It] turned out really good.”
