Two new clips from Selena Gomez‘s forthcoming tell-all documentary, Selena Gomez: My Mind & Me, have been shared, providing fans a sneak peek into the tone and nature of the film.

In a brief teaser shared on Apple TV+’s YouTube — titled “Do You Know Who This Is?” — Selena runs into one of her old school friends, who is now a mom of three.

The woman asks her eldest daughter if she knows who they’re speaking with, which causes the young girl to scream and run around in excitement once she recognizes Selena. The woman tells Selena how happy she is to see her healthy, adding it was “real scary” watching the singer struggle with her mental health.

Vanity Fair posted another exclusive clip, which documents Selena coming to terms with being diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

“I didn’t know how to cope with my diagnosis,” the TikTok clip begins, showing Selena getting out of bed and opening the window blinds. She speaks about coming out of one of her episodes and fearing it would happen again.

“What if I don’t come back,” she wonders, before explaining that she came to terms with the disorder by reading about it. She describes how she used to be fearful of thunderstorms as a child because she believed they brought tornadoes, but her mother urged her to read about weather to understand thunder and lightning.

She recalls her mother telling her, “The more you learn about it, the less afraid you’re going to be afraid of it.”

Fans will be able to stream the complete documentary next Friday, November 4, on Apple TV+.

Thursday, October 27, marks the 50th anniversary of the release of Stevie Wonder‘s classic 15th studio album, Talking Book.

The 10-track collection peaked at #3 on the Billboard Pop Albums chart, making it Wonder’s highest-charting album up to that time. The album features two of Stevie’s most enduring songs, “You Are the Sunshine of My Life” and “Superstition,” which both reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Talking Book marked a continuation of Wonder’s experimentation with synthesizers in collaboration with electronic music pioneers Malcolm Cecil and Robert Margouleff that he began on his previous album, 1972’s Music of My Mind.

Among the noteworthy guest artists who contributed to the album were guitarist Jeff Beck and Ray Parker Jr., singer Deniece Williams and sax player David Sanborn.

Wonder took home three Grammy Awards for Talking Book at the 1974 Grammys ceremony — Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for “You Are the Sunshine of My Life,” and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance and Best R&B Song for “Superstition.” Cecil and Margouleff, meanwhile, won the Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical, prize for their work on the record.

Talking Book was ranked #59 on Rolling Stone‘s 2020 list of “The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.”

Here’s the album’s full track list:

Side One
“You Are the Sunshine of My Life”
“Maybe Your Baby”
“You and I (We Can Conquer the World)”
“Tuesday Heartbreak”
“You’ve Got It Bad Girl”

Side Two

“Big Brother”
“Blame It on the Sun”
“Lookin’ for Another Pure Love”

Biden doubles down on midterms message that Republicans would make economy worse

(WASHINGTON) — With less than two weeks until midterm Election Day, President Joe Biden is doubling down on the message that a Republican-run Congress would be worse for the U.S. economy.

“If I had asked you — and we were just walking down the streets — can you tell me what the Republican platform is? What they’re for? I’m not joking. I’m being deadly earnest,” Biden said as he delivered remarks Thursday at Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, New York.

“I’ve been around a long time in public life. Republicans used to always have platforms,” Biden continued. “Well they can’t tell you what they’re for, but they’ll make sure they tell you what they’re against.”

Arriving in Syracuse, Biden was asked by a reporter how he planned to help Democrats across the finish line this midterm cycle.

“I think they’re going to come across the finish line,” Biden replied.

The economy is top of mind for voters heading into Election Day, and polls show Americans trust Republicans to handle the issue more than they do Democrats. GOP candidates have seized on inflation in their midterms messaging, blaming higher costs on Democratic policies.

The White House, in an aggressive push to counter that message, sent out a document to reporters and held a conference call on Wednesday outlining what they are calling “congressional Republicans’ five-party plan to increase inflation and costs for American families.”

According to the White House, the five parts of congressional Republicans’ economic plan include “$3 trillion in tax cuts skewed to the wealthy — which would add to the deficit and make inflation worse;” “raising prescription drug costs for millions of seniors;” “increasing health insurance premiums;” “increasing energy bills in 2023 and beyond;” and “increasing student loan payments.” As a “bonus,” the White House said Republicans are also “threatening the global economy to cut Social Security or Medicare.”

Biden in his remarks criticized his predecessor, Donald Trump, saying the previous president “made a string of broken promises” when it came to the economy and infrastructure.

“We’ve kept our commitments … and it’s working compared to what the very conservative Republicans are offering these days,” Biden said.

Biden on Thursday was bolstered by new government data showing the U.S. economy expanded in July, August and September. Gross domestic product grew 2.6%, a contrast to the first six months of the year when the economy shrank 2.2%.

“So economic growth is up, the price of inflation is down, real incomes are going up and the price of gas is down,” Biden said. He also touted the deficit reduction, his student loan forgiveness plan, the administration’s crackdown on junk fees and other policies.

During the Syracuse visit, Biden touted Micron’s pledge to invest $100 billion in semiconductor production over the next 20 years, calling it the “one of the most significant investments in American history.” The Micron pledge came after Congress passed the CHIPS Act, which allocates more than $50 billion to encourage more domestic production of the chips.

Appearing with the president were New York Gov. Kathy Hochul, up for reelection this November against Republican Lee Zeldin; Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer; Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand; Congressman John Katko and Micron’s CEO Sanjay Mehrotra.

“We wouldn’t be here without him,” Biden said of Schumer. Highlighting the bipartisan support for the CHIPS Act, Biden also thanked Rep. John Katko, R-N.Y., for voting yes on the legislation.

Schumer and Biden were heard discussing some midterm races, including the Pennsylvania Senate debate this week between John Fetterman and Mehmet Oz, while they met at the Syracuse airport on Thursday.

“Let me close with this,” Biden said. “It’s been a rough few years for a lot of the people I grew up with, hard-working Americans. For a lot of families, things are still tough. But there’s some bright spots out there, where America’s reasserting itself.”

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is throwing his support behind James Gunn’s move to DC.

On Tuesday, it was announced that Warner Bros. Discovery had picked Gunn and producer Peter Safran to be co-chairs and co-CEOs of DC Studios, making them the heads of the new division, which will replace DC Films.

Gunn has famously directed movies for both Marvel and DC. He is the filmmaker behind all three of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy films and DC’s The Suicide Squad.

At the premiere of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever on Wednesday, Feige told The Hollywood Reporter that he “speaks to Gunn almost every day” before he highlighted their most recent collaborations.

“We have a wonderful thing called the Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special coming out, we have a wonderful thing called Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 coming out in May,” Feige said. “How he’ll have any time to work on DC until May I don’t know, but once he does have the time I’ll be very excited. I’ll be first in line.”

She continues, “This show is a nonstop party about finding unconditional love and strangely (for me) not political at all. Heck I pour beer out of my t**s (that’s a party trick too… I don’t actually lactate hops silly goose!). Hope to sing along with you in 2023! And we’ll drink, this one’s on me, cause we’re all #chainedtothealgorithm.”

The text over the video of Katy’s one-eyed moment says, “POV: When you see new 2023 PLAY dates.”

Sara Bareilles’ ’Girls5Eva’ making its way to Netflix for third season

Girls5Eva is not only getting a new season — it’s also getting a new home.

The Sara Bareilles-fronted show has lived on the Peacock streaming service since it premiered, but now it is heading to Netflix, says The Hollywood Reporter. So, what does this mean for the previous two seasons?

Netflix and Peacock have hashed out a deal that’ll allow the two streamers to simultaneously host Girls5Eva‘s first and second season. The new installment, however, will air exclusively on Netflix next year.

Sara took to Instagram to celebrate the good news, writing, “My girls and I aren’t finished yet!! This show is pure joy to make and I can’t wait to share more stories and expose ourselves… to a new audience!” She also thanked Netflix for “taking a chance on us” because she says the story, as it stands right now, is “too short!”

THR suggests the sitcom struggled to find an audience on Peacock, and that is why it is switching to a new streaming service. Peacock apparently hasn’t found success in comedy shows, with THR noting not one of its original sitcoms — including the Saved by the Bell reboot — have made it past two seasons.

On the other hand, Netflix has helped transform the popularity of several shows that struggled on their original platforms, such as Lifetime’s You and Pop’s Schitt’s Creek. It also acquired one of its most popular series, Lucifer, after it was rejected by broadcasters.

THR reports Netflix initially wanted to buy the Tina Fey-produced Girls5Eva from the start.

The Emmy-nominated show, also starring Busy Philipps, Renée Elise Goldsberry and Paula Pell, focuses on the four members of a ’90s girl group, who reunite 20 years after their fame fizzled to give their pop star dreams another try.

Tim Allen is back as Santa in The Santa Clauses.

In the official trailer for the upcoming limited series, which was shared Wednesday by Disney+, Allen returns as Santa and Scott Calvin, his character in the hit 1994 film who accidentally causes Santa to fall off his roof on Christmas Eve and then finds himself recruited to take his place.

In the trailer, which includes franchise cast members Eric Lloyd as Charlie and Elizabeth Mitchell as Carol Calvin, Allen’s Santa Claus tells his elves he is retiring and returns to normal life as Scott Calvin.

“After being Santa Claus for nearly thirty years, he’s as jolly as ever,” the official description for The Santa Clauses reads. “But as Christmas declines in popularity, so does his Santa magic. Scott struggles to keep up with the demands of the job, a well as being there for his family. Upon discovering there is a way to retire from his post, Scott considers stepping down as Santa Claus and finding a worthy successor so that he can become a better father and husband.”

But at the end of the trailer, Scott Calvin tells his family he’s returning to the North Pole after he learns that elves are disappearing.

In addition to the official trailer, Disney+ also shared the artwork for the series with Allen as Santa and his whole family on a sleigh.

The two-episode premiere of The Santa Clauses is available for streaming on November 16 on Disney+.

When Lainey Wilson walks the red carpet at the 2022 CMA Awards next month, she’ll have a very special plus-one on her arm: her dad, Brian.

“He is out [of the hospital],” Lainey explained during a recent interview with Kelleigh Bannen on Apple Music’s Today’s Country Radio. “He’s going to walk the red carpet with me.”

Lainey and her father have always been close, but after he experienced a difficult summer of health setbacks and a two-month hospital stay, it’s even more meaningful for the rising star to get to experience the moment with her dad by her side.

The singer has kept fans in the loop about her dad’s health journey and asked for their prayers, especially when she had to cancel a couple of shows earlier this year to be with family.

Now, she says, his recovery is still underway.

“It’s incredible. He was in the hospital for two months,” she details. “He was in a rehab facility for three and a half weeks, and then he just had his 60th birthday. He’s still got a long way to go, but he’s here. He had nine surgeries in a month and a half…He had a stroke on top of all that. But he is a tough son of a gun.”

Lainey’s no slouch herself: The breakout star is the most-nominated artist at the 2022 CMA Awards with six nods. She’s also scheduled to perform with Hardy at the show; they just released a duet called “Wait in the Truck.”

The 2022 CMA Awards will air live from Nashville on ABC on November 9.

After the Los Angles Lakers began the new NBA season with three straight losses, they sought encouragement from a superstar who is also going through difficult times: Will Smith.

After screening his new film Emancipation on Monday for several stars, including Rihanna, Tyler Perry and Dave Chappelle, Smith shared a sneak peak of the movie with the team on Wednesday.

The Oscar winner was a guest for the Lakers Genius Talks program, which invites celebrities to meet with the team and offer inspiration to the players. Smith posted an Instagram photo of the team presenting him with a No. 14 Lakers jersey and commented, “Had a GREAT convo about the film for their Genius Series. big thanx to everyone who came thru!” Will plans to have a similar event with his hometown NBA team, the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Lakers shared three photos from the session and tweeted, “Huge thank you to Will Smith, who joined the team to discuss strength through togetherness, and practicing gratitude in times of great challenge. All themes in his forthcoming masterpiece film, Emancipation.”

Despite Smith’s visit, the Lakers lost their fourth game in a row Wednesday night, 110-99 to the Denver Nuggets.

In Emancipation, Smith stars in the true story of an escaped slave who traveled north from Louisiana and joined the Union Army.

This is the 54-year-old actor’s first film since his infamous incident at the 94th Academy Awards, where he slapped Chris Rock in front of a live audience after the comedian made a joke about Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

Emancipation debuts in theaters on December 2 and hits Apple TV+ on December 9.
