(NEW YORK) — A rare rodent-borne disease is suspected to have caused an outbreak aboard a cruise ship, leading to three deaths and several illnesses.
The deaths occurred between April 11 and May 2 with a variant of hantavirus identified in at least one patient.
The World Health Organization said on Monday that investigations are ongoing, including further laboratory testing

Like Madonna and Lady Gaga before her, Shakira packed the fans into Rio de Janeiro’s famed Copacabana Beach Saturday night for a free concert.
On Instagram, Shakira wrote in Portuguese, “What happened last night in Rio was unforgettable and breathtaking. There were approximately 2.5 million of us gathered there, and together we were able to recognize the power of music in all of us.”
She then thanked her team, her special guests, who included Anitta, and last but not least, her fans for “making history with me and above all for making me feel that last night those two and a half million souls are my family.”
The set list included “Hips Don’t Lie,” “Whenever, Wherever,” “Can’t Remember to Forget You,” “She Wolf” and “BZRP Music Sessions #53.” The show opened with a drone display featuring 1,500 drones — the largest such display ever created.
Next, Shakira will kick off a run of U.S. arena dates starting June 13 in Inglewood, California. In September, she’ll do a residency in Madrid, Spain.

(NEW YORK) — Cornell University’s president claimed he was the victim of “harassment and intimidation” following a parking lot confrontation with a group of people who said he tried to back his car into them.
The incident unfolded on Thursday, April 30, after Cornell President Michael Kotlikoff introduced an Israel-Palestinian debate series that was hosted by the Cornell Political Union and co-sponsored by the Cornell Progressives, Cornellians for Israel, and Students for Justice in Palestine.
Kotlikoff said the behavior he experienced while allegedly being followed to his car in an on-campus lot by six or seven people, some of them students, “is harassment and intimidation, with the direct motive of silencing speech.”
“It has no place in an academic community, no place in a democracy, and can have no place at Cornell,” Kolikoff said in his statement released to the Ithaca, New York, university’s community on Friday.
Following the debate, videos posted online showed several people following Kolikoff to his car while questioning him about freedom of speech. The videos showed Kolikoff’s black Cadillac backing up out of a parking space as students appeared to be standing behind his vehicle.
One person, according to a video, complained that Kotikoff’s car bumped into him and ran over his foot before the school president drove off.
Aiden Vallecillo, a member of Students for a Democratic Cornell, told ABC affiliate station WSYR in Syracuse that he and other students followed Kolikoff from the debate to his car, peacefully questioning him.
Vallecillo claimed that Kotikoff escalated the situation when he got behind the wheel of his vehicle.
“As we were still trying to talk to him, he just immediately started reversing into us,” alleged Vallecillo, who claimed that Kotikoff’s car backed over his foot.
Sophia Arnold, president of the Students for a Democratic Cornell, said she witnessed the incident and expressed dismay over Kotikoff’s alleged behavior.
“I don’t even have the words for it. I was pretty shocked and offended,” Arnold told WSYR. “A random pedestrian pulling out of a supermarket parking lot would probably have shown more care.”
On Sunday, the university released enhanced surveillance video of the incident, which the school said occurred in a parking lot near Day Hall. The footage showed a group of people standing behind Kotikoff’s car as it backed out of a parking space, stopping when it appeared to bump a person filming with his cellphone, and then continued to back up and drive off.
In an earlier statement, Kyle Kimball, vice president for University Relations, said the security footage “shows students following President Kotlikoff to his car and surrounding the car to prevent him from leaving after the Cornell Political Union event.”
It was unclear on Sunday if the incident was reported to the campus police or was being formally investigated. In response to a request for comment on Sunday, a university spokesperson directed ABC News to the statement Kolitkoff released to the Cornell community on Friday.
In that statement, Kolitkoff, who was appointed as the school’s president in March 2025, said he was “accosted by a group of several individuals in the hall, among them students and non-students” as he left the event.
“These individuals are known to Cornell for their past conduct, including a long history of ongoing verbal and online abuse toward numerous members of Cornell’s administration and staff, as well as disruptive protest resulting, in the case of two individuals, in bans from campus,” Kolitkoff said.
He alleged that they followed him across campus from the event space “while loudly shouting questions” and using their phones to record the incident.
“After answering a few questions, I let them know that I was not planning to engage further, and asked them to stop recording,” Kolitkoff said.
Kolitkoff claimed the students continued to follow him, and said at least one told him, “No, we are not going to stop.”
He said when he got to his car, the group surrounded his vehicle, “banging on the windows” and blocking him from leaving.
“I waited until I saw space behind the car and then, using my car’s rear pedestrian alert and automatic braking system, was able to slowly maneuver my car from the parking space and exit the parking lot,” Kolitkoff said.

(NEW YORK) — Rudy Giuliani is hospitalized in critical condition, his spokesman said on Sunday.
The 81-year-old former New York City mayor is critical but stable, spokesman Ted Goodman said in a statement.
The statement does not say what led to the hospitalization.
“Mayor Rudy Giuliani is currently in the hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition,” the statement said. “Mayor Giuliani is a fighter who has faced every challenge in his life with unwavering strength, and he’s fighting with that same level of strength as we speak. We do ask that you join us in prayer for America’s Mayor — Rudy Giuliani.”
Giuliani served as New York City’s mayor from 1994 to 2001.
More recently, he was a personal lawyer to President Donald Trump, who wrote about Giuliani’s hospitalization in a social media post. The president called Giuliani “a True Warrior, and the Best Mayor in the History of New York City, BY FAR.”
A spokesperson for Eric Adams, who was the city’s mayor from 2022 to 2025, noted Giuliani’s service in a statement.
“From his years as a federal prosecutor to leading New York City through its darkest day on 9/11, he stood with this city when it needed him most,” Adams spokesperson Todd Shapiro said.

If you’re a die-hard country fan, you probably already know there’s a sisterhood behind the smash hit “Choosin’ Texas,” one made up of Ella Langley and Miranda Lambert.
Ella previously told ABC Audio she’d “put [Miranda] on my manifestation board to write a song with for two years in a row.” Once that happened with “Choosin’ Texas,” the two were off and running.
“Me and her have become really close over this last year,” Ella reflects. “She’s been somebody who’s just taken me under her wing and treated me like family, and just been somebody who, when I’m at a low or a high, she’s there to talk me through either one because she’s been there before.”
Miranda went on to co-produce Ella’s #1 album Dandelion, as “Choosin’ Texas” propelled her to unprecedented mainstream success.
“It’s a very small amount of people that have been through a situation like this before,” Ella adds, “and she’s definitely one that I could take advice from — and know I’m gettin’ good advice.”
The two sing together on the Dandelion track “Butterfly Season.”
They’re also two of the most-nominated artists at the upcoming ACMs, with Miranda up for eight and Ella competing for seven, with noms in common for “Choosin’ Texas.”

Noah Kahan has gone from Stick Season to streaming season.
Noah’s new album The Great Divide debuts at #1 on the Billboard 200 with first-week sales of 389,000 units. It’s his first #1 album and the biggest week for a rock album since the “units” measure was established in 2014. The album also scores the year’s biggest streaming debut, racking up over 215 million on-demand streams of its tracks.
On the physical side, The Great Divide scores the biggest vinyl sales week for a rock album since 1991, when Luminate started tracking sales electronically. Meanwhile, Stick Season has returned to the top 10.
The Great Divide also topped charts in the U.K., Ireland, Australia, the Netherlands and Switzerland. In a statement, Noah says, “An album with mostly 5 minute songs doesn’t go number one very often, but because I have the greatest, smartest, most dedicated fans in the world, you guys have given me a number one f****** album. Insanity. We did it together, and I’ll keep going as long as you’ll have me. Love you all.”
What both Noah’s albums have in common is the fact that he writes about his feelings in an honest and raw way — something that he says fans often mention to him. As he told ABC Audio, “I think sometimes people say that I’m brave for being emotional or vulnerable.”
“I’ve never really felt like it was bravery. It was always what I was taught to do by my parents,” he explained. “So it always means a lot to me when people see it that way.”
“But I also think vulnerability is a really important muscle to exercise at all times,” he noted. “And so I always hope that my fans are taking that and bringing it into their own lives.”

For Lady Gaga’s cameo appearance in The Devil Wears Prada 2, you’d think she would have wanted to wear some sort of futuristic, cutting edge, just-came-off-the-runway creation. But it turns out the look you see in the film is a dress she originally wore 14 years ago.
In the scene, Gaga is performing at Runway magazine’s fashion show event in Milan. Given the Italian setting, they wanted her to wear something by an Italian fashion designer. But as costume designer Molly Rogers tells Variety, the Versace yellow crystal gown they initially chose made her “look like she was a part of the fashion show,” so, says Rogers, “We settled on a piece of her archive.”
That archival piece was a custom Atelier Versace creation that Gaga previously wore at the Grammys in 2012: a tight, shiny black number with cutouts and sculpted shoulders, overlaid with a fishnet veil, with a matching scepter.
“She rehearsed in like three different things, and that was the one,” Molly explains. “I said, you move differently in this one. And she said, ‘I felt it too. Let’s go for it.’”
Unfortunately, 14 years had taken their toll, and the dress started falling apart during filming. But Rogers says Gaga was unbothered, noting, “We mended it, and it was amazing!”
Prada 2 director David Frankel also told Variety that originally, all they wanted was for Gaga to write a song and perform it in the movie. She ended up writing three songs, and her role was expanded because, Frankel explains, “She’s such a great actress.”

Sean Ono Lennon, only son of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, has shared his thoughts on Sam Mendes’ upcoming Beatles films, and he sounds pretty happy with the project.
Sean tells NME that he’s “met everyone on the film set” and notes that Harris Dickinson, who plays his dad in the film, “is amazing.”
“I think he’s really smart and I did hear him do my dad’s voice a little bit – and it was so good,” he says. “It was kind of spooky actually. But there’s also something really funny about meeting someone half your age who is supposed to be your dad.”
Shōgun actress Anna Sawai plays Sean’s mom, Yoko Ono, and he says he was already familiar with her.
“Yeah, I know Anna. We kind of hung out a little bit,” he says. “She’s a very studious person. She would ask me questions about my family and she was really serious, you know, taking notes and thinking about it.”
He adds of the two actors, “They both understand the craft. I have a lot of faith in them to play those roles.”
Sean notes that Sawai hasn’t met with his mother about the role.
“She’s retired now. She’s 93,” he says. “She’s not going to micro-manage this project.”
The Beatles — A Four-Film Cinematic Event, opening in April 2028, will consist of four films, each told from the perspective of one of band members. In addition to Dickinson and Sawai, it stars Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison and Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr.
The cast also includes Saoirse Ronan as Linda McCartney, Mia McKenna-Bruce as Ringo’s wife Maureen Starkey, and Aimee Lou Wood as Harrison’s wife Pattie Boyd.
