Gird your loins: ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2’ sashays to #1 at the box office

After 20 years, Andy Sachs, Miranda Priestly and the gang at Runway magazine are still in fashion.

According to Box Office Mojo, The Devil Wears Prada 2 — featuring Anne Hathaway, Meryl Street, Stanley Tucci and Emily Blunt — launches at #1 at the box office with $77 million in its opening weekend. As Variety notes, the original only took in $27.5 million in its first weekend back in 2006.

The sequel’s debut is the fourth-biggest one of the year, as per Variety, behind only The Super Mario Galaxy Movie with $131 million; Michael, with $97.5 million; and Project Hail Mary, with $80 million.

Last week’s number one, the Michael Jackson biopic Michael, dropped to #2 but still took in $54 million. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie slid from #2 to #3 with $12 million, while Project Hail Mary dropped one spot to #4 with $8.5 million.

There were four new entries in the top 10: the horror film Hokum, starring Adam Scott, in at #5; a new take on George Orwell’s Animal Farm at #6; the survival thriller Deep Water at #8; and in at #9 is what must surely take the prize for the longest film title of the year, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime the Movie: Tears of the Azure Sea. That last one is the second installment of an anime franchise based on a series of Japanese young adult novels.

RZA says he and Shameik Moore might have Ryan Coogler, Michael B. Jordan ‘thing going on’

RZA’s One Spoon of Chocolate is now in U.S. movie theaters, starring Shameik Moore as Unique, a newly released prisoner and military veteran trying to rebuild his life in Ohio.

After collaborating with Shameik on Cut Throat City and Wu-Tang: An American Saga, RZA explains why he tapped him for the movie.

“I’m really a fan of him as an artist. I really think he has something special,” he tells ABC Audio. “Every time we work together, I see him sponge up the material, and I see him just lose his self and become the energy that I need. And he does it in a very unique way. I won’t describe his process, but I’m a fan his work.”

RZA even compared their working relationship to other notable director-actor duos.

“It seems like my energy through him as a director to an actor, I don’t know, we might have a Denzel [Washington]/Spike Lee thing going on … or Ryan Coogler/Michael B. [Jordan]. I don’t know, but I love working with him,” he says.

The film also reunites RZA with Quentin Tarantino, with whom he worked on The Man with the Iron Fists and Django Unchained. “We’re family. … We’re brothers,” RZA says.

One Spoon of Chocolate follows Unique as he relocates to Ohio after prison, hoping for a fresh start. Instead, he becomes the target of a racist sheriff and team tied to missing Black men in the town. He prepares for vengeance by reading a survivalist handbook, inspired by a book RZA received 15 years ago.

“I actually own land in Ohio,” RZA says, “and so one of my friends had gave me a book on … how to start a fire, how to get a fish … how they do all these things, and so I took that idea.”

‘Deeply concerned’: Search underway for missing Northern Kentucky University student

(CINCINNATI) — A search is underway for a 22-year-old Northern Kentucky University student who went missing nearly a week ago, according to police.

The missing student, Murry Alexis Foust, was last seen on April 27 in the Latonia neighborhood of Covington, about nine miles south of Cincinnati, according to a statement from the Covington Police Department.

“At this time, there is no indication of foul play. We understand the family’s concern and share in the worry they are experiencing during this difficult time,” police officials said in the statement.

Police asked the public for help in locating Foust. “Concerns for their safety have arisen, and your input could be crucial,” police said.

The Covington Police Department released surveillance images of Foust, which it described as “the most recent surveillance footage we have found.” Citing police officials, ABC affiliate WCPO in Cincinnati said the surveillance images of Foust, who’s seen carrying a tan or yellow backpack and walking in the Latonia neighborhood, were taken around 6 p.m. local time on April 27.

“Northern Kentucky University is aware that one of our students, Murry (Alexis) Foust, has been reported missing. We are deeply concerned and our thoughts are with their family, friends and all those impacted,” a university spokesperson said in a statement. “The Covington Police Department is leading the investigation, and we are fully cooperating and supporting their efforts. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Covington Police.”

Police officials said they are using multiple resources in the search for Foust, including water rescue and search teams, and drone operators.

In an interview on Friday, Foust’s father told WCPO that there have been unconfirmed reported sightings of Foust since the student was reported missing, including one on Friday. However, no one has heard from Foust, the father said.

Foust is fine arts major in the university’s College of Arts and Sciences and is set to graduate next week, WCPO reported.

Friends of Foust told WCPO that Foust was planning to go to a class at Northern Kentucky University on the afternoon Foust went missing. Friends said Foust’s phone was found at the student’s home and Foust’s backpack was located on the university campus, according to WCPO.

“We don’t know what happened. They could be in danger,” Eve Miller, a friend of Foust, told WCPO.

Post Malone & Jelly Roll cancel first few weeks of Big A** Stadium Tour Part 2

Post Malone is the latest artist to scrap tour dates this summer, following high-profile cancelations by pop stars Meghan Trainor and Zayn Malik. The first six shows of his Big A** Stadium Tour Part 2 with Jelly Roll, which were to have started May 13, have now been called off: The tour will now start June 9 in Charlotte, North Carolina.

In an Instagram Story post captured by Complex, Posty wrote, “Looking at the upcoming schedule after Stagecoach, I came to the realization that what we’re trying to do, and what’s possible, isn’t really lining up. The truth is, I promised y’all beautiful people new music, and I don’t have the time to finish it before tour starts. We ain’t ready for tour just yet, so I’m making the decision to push the tour back about 3 weeks to get this music done.”

Posty had previously been teasing a 40-track album called The Eternal Buzz. He went on to write that he’s been “making some bada** s*** for this double album… and I can’t wait to perform for y’all again.”

He also hinted that some of his new music, at least, may feature him returning to his rap roots. He added, “And to a lot of little stinkers that think I’ve forgotten about old Stoney, I haven’t.” Stoney was the title of his 2016 debut.

Variety notes that according to recent reports, ticket sales have been “soft” for several dates on the tour, as opposed to last year’s Big A** Stadium Tour, which completely sold out. Neither Post Malone or Jelly Roll have released an album since 2024, which may explain why Post is eager to put out new music ahead of the tour.

Olivia Rodrigo pulls ‘SNL’ double duty with help from Debbie Harry & Connor Storrie

Olivia Rodrigo was both the host and musical guest on Saturday Night Live, and she managed to corral some heavy hitters to introduce her musical performances.

Her first performance, of her #1 hit “drop dead,” was introduced by Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Debbie Harry, the frontwoman of the iconic group Blondie. Debbie returned for the goodnights, wearing a t-shirt reading, “Rodrigo 1.”

Olivia sang the song on a set designed to look like she was under the ground in a cemetery with a gravestone above her reading, “Here is where Olivia dropped dead.”

Her second performance, of a new song called “begged,” was introduced by Heated Rivalry‘s Connor Storrie, who hosted the show on Feb. 28. She sang that one while sitting on a swing while flower petals showered from the ceiling.

Olivia’s monologue and sketch appearances were music-heavy. In the monologue, she sang a parody of “drivers license,” making it about getting a Real ID at the DMV. In a sketch about an engaged couple cheating on each other, she and Marcello Hernandez sang all their dialogue, opera-style.

The funniest music sketch, though, was “My Room:” Olivia is a teen with a dream bedroom. She sings, “I love my bedroom, it’s the best. The only problem is … I’m in a zoo on the bug people planet.” Turns out she’s a specimen in a glass-walled exhibit, living her life — brushing her teeth, going to the bathroom — while giant bug-like aliens watch her every move.

Olivia’s other characters included:

–A girl trying to make her ex jealous at a party

–A baker on a home shopping channel, selling cakes that look like a NSFW body part

Blondie’s Debbie Harry makes surprise ‘Saturday Night Live’ appearance

Blondie frontwoman Debbie Harry made a surprise appearance on Saturday Night Live this weekend.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Famer turned up to introduce host and musical guest Olivia Rodrigo’s first performance of the night: her latest single, “drop dead.” Her second performance, of the unreleased track “begged,” was introduced by Heated Rivalry star Connor Storrie.

Harry also returned at the end of the show for the final good nights, wearing a T-shirt that read “Rodrigo 1”

This isn’t the first time Harry has appeared on SNL. In January of 1987 she was the musical guest as a solo artist. With Blondie, she was the musical guest back in October of 1979.

Blondie is expected to release a new album, High Noon, this year. So far they have not revealed any details of the project.

Rolling Stones to make Foreign Tongues announcement Tuesday

After weeks of teases, The Rolling Stones appear ready to let their fans in on the news they have to share.

The band has confirmed on social media that they will be revealing their latest project on Tuesday at 12 p.m. ET: It’s called Foreign Tongues, but whether it’s a song, an album or both remains to be seen.

In addition to announcing the time of the reveal, the band appears to have revealed the Foreign Tongues artwork. They’ve posted a video showing portions of a caricature of the band members – Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood – moving around, before meshing together into one image.

The latest announcement comes after The Stones posted photos of billboards that had been popping up in cities around the world, with the words “Foreign Tongues” written in several languages and the band’s famous lips logo in the corner.

The band’s website also displayed a series of videos that appear to be surveillance clips of them in the studio, and a post on their Instagram page included what sounds like a snippet of a new song, along with a new take on their lips logo.

A new album would be the follow-up to The Stones’ 2023 release, Hackney Diamonds. That project was the band’s first album in 18 years, and their first new music since the 2021 death of drummer Charlie Watts.

Bruce Springsteen’s Philadelphia concert rescheduled due to NHL and NBA playoffs

Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band have had to make a scheduling change to their Land of Hope And Dreams American Tour.

With two Philadelphia teams in the playoffs – the Flyers in the NHL playoffs and the 76ers in the NBA playoffs – Springsteen has just announced that his May 8 concert at Xfinity Mobile Arena has been moved to May 30.

The current Philly sports schedule has the Flyers facing off against the Carolina Hurricanes at Xfinity Mobile Arena on May 7 and 9, with the 76ers taking on the New York Knicks May 8 and 10 at the same venue.

All tickets for the May 8 show will be valid for the rescheduled date. The Philadelphia show will now be the final stop on the tour.

Man arrested for killing Wendy’s co-worker, roommate in fatal stabbings on Long Island: Police

(NEW YORK) — A man was arrested Friday after police say he fatally stabbed his roommate and then his co-worker at a Wendy’s on Long Island.

Rony Alvarenga, 22, was charged Saturday with two counts of murder after he turned himself in following the killings of the 42-year-old co-worker and 32-year-old roommate, Nassau County Police Department Det. Lt. George Darienzo told reporters.

The names of the victims, both women, have yet to be released.

Alvarenga allegedly killed his roommate around 9:30 p.m. on Thursday inside the Valley Stream house they lived in, according to Darienzo.

Hours later, police got a call from a Wendy’s in Island Park about a man with a knife and when they arrived, they found the 42-year-old victim and declared her dead at the scene.

As officers collected clues, including surveillance video, they received a phone call from Alvarenga where he allegedly claimed he had killed someone that night. Officers responded to a 7-Eleven location where Alvarenga turned himself in, according to police.

Darienzo said that officers had learned that another person may have been killed that night and went to the the suspect’s home. When they arrived they found the slain roommate.

Alvarenga is originally from El Salvador and has been living in the United States undocumented for the last 10 years, according to officials.

The victims’ identities were pending, but Darienzo told reporters that it is believed the Wendy’s worker had two children in the U.S.

Airlines reduce, cap fares for Spirit travelers looking to rebook canceled flights

(NEW YORK) — The Department of Transportation said on Saturday the majority of airlines will be capping tickets prices for Spirit Airlines travelers who need to rebook their canceled flights.

Some carriers have even reduced fares on high volume routes where Spirit used to operate.

Spirit began winding down operations early Saturday morning after talks between the airline and the federal government over a $500 million rescue deal stalled.

Spirit said that travelers who booked their tickets with a credit or debit card will be automatically refunded.

United, Delta, JetBlue and Southwest said they are capping ticket prices specifically for Spirit customers who need to rebook cancelled flights.

To access these special prices, individuals will need to provide at least a Spirit flight confirmation number and proof of payment, the airlines said.

These fares will only be available for a short period:

JetBlue: Available for 72 hours
Southwest: Available for 72 hours; only in person at an airport ticket counter
Delta: Available for five days
United: Available for two weeks online
American Airlines and Delta Air Lines are offering reduced fares on high-volume Spirit routes.

United Airlines said for the next two weeks, customers who were booked on Spirit can get one-way tickets on United flights from most cities where Spirit previously operated, including Atlanta, Chicago, Fort Lauderdale, Houston, Las Vegas, Miami, Newark, New Orleans and Orlando.

The airline said it has capped most of its fares at $199, though exceptions apply with longer flights not priced higher than $299.

Travelers will need to enter their Spirit confirmation number and verify they were scheduled to travel between May 2 through May 16 in order to be qualify for these special fares.

American Airlines said it has also launched a page on its website that displays rescue fares to and from a range of domestic and international destinations for Spirit customers needing to rebook travel.

The airline said it’s also reviewing adding additional capacity, including flying bigger planes and adding more flights on routes Spirit used to fly, to accommodate as many passengers as possible.

Allegiant Air has also committed to freezing fare prices across routes that overlap with Spirit. To support impacted travelers, Frontier Airlines is offering up to 50% off base fares across its network until May 10.

To help Spirit employees, the Department of Transportation said most major U.S. carriers are extending travel pass benefits and spare jump seats so employees can return to their homebases.

Airlines are also offering Spirit team members preferential employment interviews to ensure they jump the queue. American and United said they’re creating microsites for Spirit employees looking to continue a career in aviation, per the federal agency.
