Former Snow Patrol bassist Paul Wilson talks split: “I don’t really know what went down”

Roberto Ricciuti/Redferns

Earlier in September, Snow Patrol announced the departure of their longtime rhythm section, bassist Paul Wilson and drummer Jonny Quinn. While both members got effusive tribute posts penned by frontman Gary Lightbody, Quinn’s wife, Mariane, hinted in a comment that the split might not have been amicable: “It’s been a f*****. F***** by you know who.”

As for who exactly “you know who” is, that remains a mystery. In his first post-Snow Patrol interview, Wilson tells Rolling Stone that he’s “not heard from [the Quinns] or anyone in the band.”

“But I’m glad to talk about this because I feel like my narrative has been completely lost,” Wilson says. “After being in this band for 20 years, and then all of a sudden there’s this salacious gossip. It’s like, ugh. This has completely ruined my moment of leaving and doing my own thing.”

“I don’t really know what went down,” Wilson adds of the alleged drama. “But I’m guessing there were creative differences in the studio; I can’t imagine it was anything too crazy.”

Wilson also shares that he doesn’t “have any ill feelings towards the guys” and realized he wanted to leave Snow Patrol when the band regrouped for their first tour following the COVID-19 lockdown.

“It’s quite a tough decision to walk away from a huge entity like Snow Patrol,” he says. “But my priorities shifted so much.”

Wilson’s now focused on his new project, the metal-influenced Above as Below. Snow Patrol, meanwhile, intends to continue with remaining members Lightbody, guitarist Nathan Connolly and multiple-instrumentalist Johnny McDaid.

Lizzo seeks to dismiss former dancers’ harassment lawsuit

ABC

Lizzo‘s team has filed a legal document seeking to dismiss the lawsuit three of her former dancers filed against her. In it, they deny sexual harassment claims from Arianna DavisCrystal Williams and Noelle Rodriguez, all of whom also accused the singer of creating a hostile work environment.

“This is the first step of a legal process in which Lizzo and her team will demonstrate that they have always practiced what they’ve preached – whether it comes to promoting body positivity, leading a safe and supportive workplace or protecting individuals from any kind of harassment,” a spokesperson for Lizzo’s legal team said in a statement. “Any and all claims to the contrary are ridiculous, and we look forward to proving so in a court of law.”

As Variety reports, Lizzo and her Big Grrrl Touring, Inc. production company requested that the judge dismiss the lawsuit “in its entirety with prejudice,” providing over 30 affirmative defenses countering the dancers’ original claims.

The dancers allege Lizzo and dance team captain Shirlene Quigley weight shamed them, pressured them to touch nude performers at a strip club in Amsterdam and more. However, according to Variety, Lizzo claims in the newly filed documents that “there was no injury, loss or damage to Plaintiffs” and that the plaintiffs acted in bad faith.

Cardi B talks “Bongos,” aliens and more while eating spicy wings on ‘Hot Ones’ debut

First We Feast

After days of teases, fans can now watch Cardi B‘s debut on Hot Ones, which premiered Thursday, September 28, on the First We Feast YouTube page.

Like previous guests, the rapper sat down with host Sam Evans and attempted to eat 10 chicken wings or vegan substitutes, with each serving prepared with a progressively hotter sauce. She also answered a few questions, though at some points she was too distracted by the spiciness of the hot wings.

“I’m trying to say something but I can’t even focus on the f****** question!” Cardi B said. That, however, didn’t prevent her from providing some unfiltered responses.

Among the many topics Cardi discussed: the “annoying” process of recording a radio-friendly version of the Megan Thee Stallion-assisted “Bongos,” her love for former President Franklin D. Roosevelt and her belief that aliens aren’t real.

“If aliens are real, and they’re smarter than us, I feel like, why haven’t they invaded us?” she asked.

Cardi also gave a shoutout to two of her biggest idols/”super moguls,” Rihanna and Jay-Z, and looked back on the time her husband, Offset, and his former rap trio, Migosread Llama Llama Red Pajama to the beat of their own song “Bad and Boujee.”

“I love that book … I can only picture when the Migos was doing it,” Cardi said. “Good memories. I love having good memories of them in my head.”

Matty Healy & Ice Spice are “good” following podcast controversy

Matthew Baker/Getty Images

Matty Healy and Ice Spice are “good” following The 1975‘s frontman’s controversial appearance on a podcast making fun of the viral rapper.

During an episode of The Adam Friedland Show, Healy and the hosts joked about and mocked Ice’s ethnicity and did stereotypical impressions of various accents. Healy later offered an apology during a 1975 show in New Zealand, during which he said, “It’s not because I’m annoyed that me joking got misconstrued, it’s ’cause I don’t want Ice Spice to think I’m a d***.”

Speaking about Healy’s comments for the first time during an interview with Variety, Ice shares, “When I had heard that little podcast or whatever, I was so confused.”

“Because I heard ‘chubby Chinese lady’ or some s*** like that, and I’m like, ‘Huh? What does that even mean?'” Ice explains. “First of all, I’m thick. What do you mean Chinese? What?”

“But then they apologized or whatever,” she continues. “And the whole time, I didn’t really care.”

Ice adds that she ran into Healy at a recent party, during which he apologized again.

“[Healy] was like, ‘Hey, you OK?’ and I’m like, ‘Of course,'” she says. “He apologized to me a bunch of times. We’re good.”
