The Pretty Reckless‘ new album Death by Rock and Roll features guest appearances by Kim Thayil and Matt Cameron of Soundgarden, and Rage Against the Machine‘s Tom Morello. Aside from being a part of some of the biggest rock bands of the last 30 years, Taylor Momsen wanted to work with those artists specifically for an important reason: nobody else sounds like them.

“Part of the reason I love rock n’ roll so much is that you can really hear the person behind the note,” Momsen tells ABC Audio. “Especially in today’s modern age of music, there’s a lot of music that is not rooted in the human performance or the human element of music, I guess.”

Momsen adds that Thayil, Cameron and Morello are all artists who “really have an identity behind what they do.”

“Whether they’re playing drums or guitar or bass or whatever it is, they play it with such an intent that it sounds like a voice, it sounds like a human voice,” she says. “You can tell immediately who that person is because they’re singing with their instrument in a way that I feel like a lot of people don’t do nowadays.”

Thayil and Cameron are featured on the song “Only Love Can Save Me Now,” while Morello adds his guitar to the track “And So It Went.” Clearly, Momsen must be on to something with the whole “it matters who’s playing on the song” thing, since both singles hit number one on Billboard‘s Maintream Rock Airplay chart.

“Matt and Kim and Tom, obviously, are just three of the most iconic people who’ve done that throughout their career,” Momsen says. “I’m so fortunate to have worked with them on this.”

Tweed Jacket Music

Founding Dire Straits member David Knopfler and former Pretenders guitarist Robbie McIntosh are among the many respected musicians who are contributing to a new instrumental project called Held by Trees.

The collective, led by composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist David Joseph, will release a new single called “Mysterium” on November 12, and is planning to issue its self-titled debut album in the spring of 2022.

Joseph describes Held by Trees’ music as somewhere between David Gilmour-era Pink Floyd and the later, prog-rock-influenced work of British new wave band Talk Talk.

The latter is no surprise, considering the fact that several musicians who worked with Talk Talk — and on the solo recordings by that group’s late frontman Mark Hollis — are featured on “Mysterium.”  They include McIntosh, drummer/percussionist Martin Ditcham and keyboardist Laurence Pendrous.

The track also includes the talents of veteran blues singer/songwriter Eric Bibb.

You can pre-order “Mysterium” and the Held by Trees album now.

Tory Lanez is facing more legal problems as he’s being sued for a hit-and-run accident that took place in Miami early this year.

A man named Barry Fine filed a lawsuit against Lanez stemming from an incident on January 23. According to XXL.com, Fine claims that a person driving the Canadian rapper’s 2016 Range Rover hit another car that was propelled into Barry’s 2020 Porsche. Fine says he sustained serious injuries, including disfigurement. He is suing Lanez for negligence, saying that the rapper is “vicariously liable under the dangerous instrumentality doctrine for the damages caused by the unknown driver.”

Meanwhile, Lanez is currently out on $250,000 bail and is facing a felony assault charge for allegedly shooting Megan Thee Stallion in the foot on July 12, 2020, in Hollywood Hills. Rolling Stone reports that he is discussing a plea bargain with the Los Angeles District Attorney in that case.

As Lanez copes with both cases, he just announced that he is dropping his sixth solo album, Alone at Prom, on December 1.

The Kid LAROI and Justin Bieber have real “Stay”-ing power.  Their collaborative single, “Stay,” has just racked up a sixth week at number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

“Stay” has now spent the same number of weeks on top as “Say Say Say,” the 1983 duet by Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson.  Only two other collaborations by two or more solo male artists have spent more time on top than those songs.

The champ is “Despacito,” by Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber, which spent 16 weeks at number one in 2017, followed by “Ebony and Ivory,” by Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder, which was number one for seven weeks in 1982.

Meanwhile, Lil Nas X finds himself with three top 10s at the same time.  “Montero,” the title track of his new album, has jumped from #13 to number nine.  His other single, “Industry Baby,” featuring Jack Harlow, has jumped from number six back to number two, which was where it debuted in August.  And the new track, “That’s What I Want,” debuts at number 10.

LNX’s album Montero debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 album chart.

Judas Priest is postponing the remainder of the North American leg of the band’s 50 Heavy Metal Years tour because guitarist Richie Faulkner has been hospitalized with a “major medical heart condition.”

“It is with deep regret that we have to postpone the rest of our [U.S.] tour,” Priest says in a statement. “Richie Faulkner has major medical heart condition issues which have landed him in the hospital where he is being treated. In the meantime, we are all sending love to our Falcon to wish him a speedy recovery.”

The tour was expected to continue Wednesday in Denver, and was scheduled run through a November 5 show in Hamilton, Canada.

“As soon as we have any updates from [Faulkner’s] doctors on when we can reschedule the dates, we will of course announce them,” Priest adds.

Judas Priest had just performed at the Louder than Life festival Sunday in Louisville, Kentucky. The set included a special version of their Fleetwood Mac cover “The Green Manalishi (With the Two Prong Crown)” featuring a guest appearance by Metallica‘s Kirk Hammett.
