The Rolling Stones are sharing a newly restored version of the music video for “2000 Light Years From Home,” from their 1967 experimental/psychedelic album, Their Satanic Majesties Request. The clip, filmed and produced in 1967, has now been restored in 4K resolution and released digitally for the first time.

The “promotional film,” as it was known back then, was directed by the late Peter Whitehead and shot on 35 MM film. The performance clip opens with closeups of the band members bathed in various colors, with Mick Jagger’s face painted, something he would do again for the “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” video, which was filmed the following year.

The track, written by Mick and Keith Richards, was the B-side to the single “She’s A Rainbow.” It is believed Mick wrote the lyrics in prison during an incarceration from a drug bust.

Bruce Springsteen responds to ticket sale backlash

Before there was a Ticketmaster uproar over Taylor Swift tickets, Bruce Springsteen fans were angered over the ticket sales for his 2023 tour with the E Street Band, particularly the site’s dynamic pricing, which shot up ticket prices. Well, now Bruce is commenting on the whole mess.

Bruce tells Rolling Stone when he usually tours, he has his people see what other artists are charging and says “let’s charge a little less.” He insists that throughout his career he’s “been under market value,” sharing, “I’ve enjoyed that. It’s been great for the fans.”  But, he says, “This time I told them, ‘Hey, we’re 73 years old. The guys are there. I want to do what everybody else is doing, my peers.’ So that’s what happened. That’s what they did.”

Bruce acknowledges these days ticket buying “has gotten very confusing,” but says, “most of our tickets are totally affordable.” Regarding dynamic pricing, he notes there’s always going to be brokers who sell the tickets for more, so his thought is “why shouldn’t that money go to the guys that are going to be up there sweating three hours a night for it?” He adds, “I know it was unpopular with some fans. But if there’s any complaints on the way out, you can have your money back.”

As for the backlash, The Boss says, “Well, I’m old. I take a lot of things in stride. You don’t like to be criticized. You certainly don’t like to be the poster boy for high ticket prices,” adding, “…You have to own the decisions you have made and go out and just continue to do your best.” He notes, “I think if folks come to the show, they’re going to have a good time.”

Nightwish vocalist Floor Jansen has been declared “cancer free.”

The 41-year-old musician announced in late October that she’d been diagnosed with breast cancer. At the time, Jansen shared that her “prognosis is very good” and later underwent surgery to remove the tumor, which she said “went well.”

In a series of tweets Friday, Jansen reveals, “Great news! I am cancer free.”

“The surgery took everything cancerous out and it hasn’t spread!” she writes. “I’ll get local radiation therapy in February to make sure everything stays out. I’m getting my energy back after the surgery and feel a huge relief to know it was successful!”

Jansen’s news comes just as Nightwish prepares to launch a European tour this Sunday.

“I’m not back to a 100% but I have no doubt the shows will give me the power push I need to rock with all of you on the upcoming European tour,” Jansen says.

She adds, “Thank you for your amazing support and well wishes.”

LA County recommends indoor masking after increase in COVID cases

(LOS ANGELES) — Los Angeles County is advising residents to wear masks indoors amid an increase in COVID-19 transmission.

On Thursday, the largest county in the United States said it is “strongly recommending” people wear face coverings in indoor public settings but stopped short of requiring them.

Under an updated response plan released this week, the county said it would issue the recommendations if the COVID-19 case rate hit 100 per 100,000 residents, which it did Thursday, up from 86 per 100,000 one week ago.

“Now, it is strongly recommended that all individuals wear a high-quality mask that fits well in the following settings: in public indoor spaces; when using public transit, including buses, ride-shares, taxis and medical transport; correctional and detention facilities; and homeless and emergency shelters,” county Health Officer Dr. Muntu Davis said during a media briefing.

Masks are still required for those who work in health care facilities, who have been exposed to COVID-19 in the last 10 days and anywhere mandates are in place.

Data from the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health shows an average of 1,500 cases per day have been reported in the last week, an increase from the 1,300 per day reported last week. Test positivity has also increased from 5.8% to 6.8%

Davis told reporters during the briefing this is likely an undercount due to people testing positive with at-home rapid tests and not reporting their results to the health department as well as people who are not testing at all.

Additionally, the number of hospitalized patients has risen from 464 as of Nov. 10 to 601 as of Thursday, data shows.

Daily deaths from COVID-19 remain low with an average of about eight reported per day, but Davis said he expects this number will climb because death tolls generally tend to lag cases and hospitalizations, and both metrics are rising.

He urged residents to get vaccinated and boosted ahead of the holiday season as well as to follow guidelines, including frequent handwashing and staying away from those who are sick.

“We are grateful this year to have the tools that allow us to gather with a lot of safety,” Davis said. “It will mean, however, that all of us likely will need to take some commonsense precautions to avoid future disruptions and the spread of illness.”

Pelosi says attack on husband made her consider staying on as Democratic leader

(WASHINGTON) — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has spoken candidly with print reporters about her husband’s assault, what she called “survivor’s guilt” and her decision to step down from Democratic leadership.

“If anything it made me think about staying,” Pelosi told reporters about the violent, attack against Paul Pelosi in their California home last month that authorities say appeared to be politically motivated.

“No, it had the opposite effect,” she continued. “I couldn’t give them that satisfaction.”

Pelosi did ultimately decide to end her time as speaker, announcing it in a dramatic floor speech to her colleagues on Thursday. She will remain in Congress representing her San Francisco district as a member of the caucus.

“I quite frankly, personally, have been ready to leave for a while,” she told reporters from the Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, New York Times, the Wall Street Journal and other print outlets. “Because there are things I want to do. I like to dance; I like to sing. There’s a life out there, right?”

Pelosi, 82, made history as the first and only woman to be elected speaker. She’s worked with four presidents as a leader of the Democratic Party, and is revered for her legislative prowess and fundraising abilities.

Walking onto the House floor Thursday to give her farewell speech, clad in a suffragist-white pantsuit, she received a standing ovation from her colleagues.

“I feel balanced about it all,” she told the print reporters. “I don’t feel sad about not having a leadership position,” she said.

As for who will succeed her, Pelosi said at the time she wouldn’t endorse anyone. New York Rep. Hakeem Jeffries officially announced his bid for Democratic leader on Friday. After his announcement, Pelosi released a statement saluting Jeffries, as well as Reps. Katherine Clark and Pete Aguilar, for stepping up to take on top leadership roles within the party.

On the future of the Democratic Party, Pelosi told reporters, “That’s up to them, I want it to be whatever they want it to be.”

“They will have their vision, they will have their plan,” she said.

Addressing her husband’s recovery after the attack required him to undergo surgery to repair a skull fracture, Pelosi said he’s “doing okay.”

“But the traumatic effect on him, this happened in our house,” she said, adding their San Francisco residence has turned into a “crime scene” after the attacker broke into it early in the morning on Oct. 28.

The alleged attacker was looking for Nancy Pelosi, according to a federal complaint.

“If he had fallen, slipped on the ice, or was in an accident and hurt his head, it would be horrible, but to have it be an assault on him because they were looking for me is really — they call it ‘survivor’s guilt’ or something,” she said.

FTX crypto scandal already getting the Hollywood treatment

The smoke hasn’t even cleared on the billion dollar FTX cryptocurrency scandal, yet Hollywood is looking to tell the story.

Deadline is reporting Michael Lewis, who spent a year documenting now-disgraced one-time crypto king Sam Bankman-Fried, was working on a book about the figure. Now, there’s already a bidding war afoot to bring it to the big screen.

While cryptocurrency is a dense topic for your average movie audience, Lewis’ book about the dry matter of baseball statistics was shaped into the Oscar-nominated movie Moneyball; his financial scandal book The Big Short inspired the Oscar-winning script for the movie of the same name, and Lewis’ work The Blind Side ended up netting Sandra Bullock a Best Actress Academy Award for its big screen adaptation.

Bankman-Fried’s story stretches from Washington, D.C. to Hollywood to Ukraine; the supposed wunderkind graced the covers of magazines like Forbes, and he became one of the largest Democratic party donors in the world.

What was once the third-largest crypto exchange has all the ingredients for a ripped-from-the-headlines movie: sex, scandal, celebrity, and money. Stars like Tom Brady and Larry David promoted the cryptocurrency, while Bankman-Fried and his friends reportedly lived like rock stars in the Bahamas. Fast-forward to today, and a billion dollars is gone.

The House Financial Services Committee will hold a hearing next month to investigate, with Democrat Rep. Maxine Waters — reportedly one of the recipients of Bankman-Fried’s donations, as were many in DC — saying, “The fall of FTX has posed tremendous harm to over one million users, many of whom were everyday people who invested their hard-earned savings into the FTX cryptocurrency exchange, only to watch it all disappear within a matter of seconds.”
