Greta Van Fleet may have a classic rock sound, but they’ve attracted a young fan base. In an interview with ABC Audio, guitarist Jake Kiszka discusses how the “Highway Tune” rockers are bringing their sound to a new generation of fans who didn’t grow up listening to the genre.

“We have probably way more younger audience members now than ever before, and I just think it’s catching on,” Jake says.

Greta Van Fleet is made up of two millennial and two Gen Z members: Jake and his twin brother, frontman Josh Kiszka, are 26, while their younger brother, bassist Sam Kiszka, is 23, as is drummer Danny Wagner. As the Grammy-winning band gains traction among younger audiences, Jake says that inspiring a younger demographic is exciting for them.

“It’s cool to see all of these young people, and they’re looking up at us and we’re playing a show,” Jake says. “It’s like we’re doing something now for our generation in a way and … it feels special.”

During GVF’s Dreams in Gold tour this year, Jake saw Gen Z fans dress up en masse in ’60s-inspired hippie apparel, something he’s never seen at a concert before.

“The audience themselves have almost become part of our show, in a way,” Jake says, adding that the fans’ enthusiasm for dressing up influences how he presents himself, too.

“I know that if I’m putting together a suit, right, and going onstage, I know that someone’s going to emulate that,” he shares. “So, I’m putting extra thought into it.”

As the tour comes to a close later this year, Zoomers can look forward to more GVF music. The group’s been writing new material while on tour to follow 2021’s The Battle at Garden’s Gate, which Jake says could arrive in 2023.

Hosted by Wayne Brady, the 50th annual American Music Awards aired live on ABC from Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater Sunday night.

The night, which celebrates the latest and greatest talents in music, was full of show-stopping performances. Brazilian singer Anitta took the stage to perform her record-breaking hit “Envolver” and was later joined by the legendary Missy Elliott for their collaboration track “Lobby.”

GloRilla and Cardi B — in a surprise appearance — got the crowd hype with their smash “Tomorrow 2,” and Lil Baby showed off his skills performing his tracks “In a Minute” and “California Breeze.”

As far as awards, the AMAs introduced the new category, Favorite Afrobeats Artist, which Wizkid won. Chris Brown won Favorite Male R&B Artist after his Michael Jackson tribute was reportedly scrapped. Kelly Rowland accepted the honor on his behalf.

Smokey Robinson presented 17-time AMA winner Lionel Richie with the prestigious Icon Award, which honors an artist whose body of work has made a profound influence over pop music on a global level. In his acceptance speech, Richie reflected on the full circle moment.

“I started here, at the AMAs,” he said. “My career, to this day, 40 years later, I’m back at the AMAs.”

Richie also shared a message for the “young superstars.”

“When you hear the word ‘hit,’ that means today. When you hear the word ‘inspiring,’ that means forever,” he said. “If you get the chance to have that light on you, understand what God has in store.”

Afterwards, Charlie Puth and Stevie Wonder teamed up for a tribute to the legendary singer-songwriter, singing some of his greatest hits before closing out the show.

Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar and Nicki Minaj were among the winners announced before the broadcast.

Taylor Swift‘s new album Midnights has returned to the number-one spot on the Billboard 200 album chart after being temporarily dislodged by Her Loss, the new joint album by Drake and 21 Savage.

Midnights has now been number one for three non-consecutive weeks.  This past week, it sold 204,000 units, making it the first album to sell at least 200,000 units in each of its first four weeks of release since Adele did it in 2015 with 25.

Elsewhere on the chart, former One Direction member Louis Tomlinson debuts at number five with his second solo album, Faith in the Future, which features his latest hit, “Bigger Than Me.” It’s his highest-charting release to date.  His debut, Walls, opened at number nine in 2020.

And it’s worth mentioning that rock legend Bruce Springsteen has scored his 22nd top 10 album with his new album Only the Strong Survive, an album of R&B and soul covers.

The 2022 American Music Awards went down in Los Angeles last night, with Taylor Swift and Morgan Wallen the big country winners.

Taylor nabbed two country awards: Favorite Female Country Artist, and Favorite Country Album for Red (Taylor’s Version). These wins, along with several others last night, extend Tay’s record as the most awarded artist in AMA history with 40 wins.

Also winning two awards was Morgan, who nabbed Favorite Male Country Artist and Favorite Country Song for “Wasted on You.”

The only award handed out on the broadcast was Favorite Country Duo or Group, which went to Dan + Shay.

“We are so grateful to get to make country music,” Shay Mooney shared while accepting the award.  “We are proud to represent our community here. This is unbelievable.” Dan Smyers thanked his musical partner, noting, “I am so glad to make music with you, this is a dream come true to stand on this stage with you and accept this award,” adding to their fans, “we couldn’t do this without you…you change our lives every single day.”

And while Taylor’s win for Favorite Female Country Artist robbed Carrie Underwood of another AMA trophy, that didn’t stop her from wowing the crowd with a performance of her Denim & Rhinestones track “Crazy Angels,” which she began while hanging over the audience in a spherical apparatus.

Also performing last night was Yola, who sang “Break the Bough” for the show’s second annual “Song of the Soul” moment, and Jimmie Allen, who paid tribute to the late Loretta Lynn, performing a bit of her classic “Coal Miner’s Daughter” on guitar.

Billy Talbot says making new Neil Young & Crazy Horse album ‘World Record’ “was a great experience”

Neil Young and his frequent side band Crazy Horse are back with their third new album in three years, World Record, which follows 2019’s Colorado and 2021’s Barn.

The 10-song collection was co-produced by Young and Rick Rubin and recorded at Rubin’s Shangri-La studio in Malibu, California.

Founding Crazy Horse bassist Billy Talbot tells ABC Audio that World Record came together in a similar way to most of the albums the band has made with Neil: recorded quickly and live in the studio.

“We didn’t do these songs more than once or twice in the recording of them,” Talbot says. “Once we decided on which way they would be played, electric guitar or organ or acoustic guitar or piano … then we did ’em once or twice and that was it. So … it was a great experience.”

On the new songs, Young touches on such topics as the environment, his wish for a world without war and his love for vintage cars.

“He likes to write about what he’s feeling, you know, lyrically, and then having the melodies and having a good feel,” Talbot says of Young. “And he’s a natural songwriter, like he’s a natural guitar player … He likes to keep it natural and real. [He] doesn’t like to, I guess the word’s pontificate. I mean, when you think things through for too long, they get … kind of lost.”

Talbot says working with Rubin “was great,” noting, “he has a great ear, and he knows when something’s right and when it’s really happened, and when it’s not happening. And so does Neil on that level. So consequently, they were able to really work together and understand when they got the great feel on a song.”

You can order World Record now. Here’s the track list:

“Love Earth”
“Overhead”
“I Walk with You (earth ringtone)”
“This Old Planet (changing days)”
“The World (is in trouble now)”
“Break the Chain”
“The Long Day Before”
“Walkin’ on the Road (to the future)”
“The Wonder Won’t Wait”
“Chevrolet”
“This Old Planet (reprise)”

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever remains #1 at the box office, with studio estimates saying it earned an additional $67 million in its second week of release.  Its global totals have reached $546 million. The Marvel Studio’s Black Panther sequel opened in North America with an estimated $180 million and set a record for the biggest November opening of all time, beating The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.  Marvel is owned by Disney, the parent company of ABC News.

Dining in second place was Searchlight Pictures’ new dark comedy The Menu, which stars Anya Taylor-JoyNicholas Hoult and Ralph Fiennes. The well-reviewed thriller opened with an estimated $9 million across 3,100 theaters.

Shocking in third was The Chosen, which aired its first two episodes across 2,009 theaters and drew in an estimated $8.2 million. The crowdfunded streaming series, distributed by Fathom Events, is about the life of Jesus Christ.

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson‘s Black Adam fell to fourth place this week, earning an estimated $4.5 million.

Rounding out the top five was rom-com Ticket to Paradise, which collected an additional $3.2 million in its fifth week of release.

Meanwhile, She Said bombed in its opening week. The movie starred Carey Mulligan and Zoe Kazan as The New York Times’ Megan Twohey and Jodi Kantor, respectively, who covered the sexual abuse allegations against movie mogul Harvey Weinstein, who at the time was one of the most powerful men in Hollywood. Despite the rave reviews and Oscars buzz, the movie disappointed with an estimated opening of $2.3 million.

Instead of a sequinned LA Dodgers baseball uniform, he wore a sequinned LA Dodgers bathrobe, but Elton John’s final North American show Sunday night at Dodger Stadium will likely be just as fondly remembered as the original career-making shows he played there in 1975.

The third night of Elton’s three-night stand at the stadium was streamed live globally by Disney+, and was preceded by a 20-minute pre-show that included goodbye wishes from the likes of Dolly Parton, Sting, Coldplay, Bette Midler, Lionel Richie, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus, Billie Eilish, Lizzo, Ed Sheeran, Joni Mitchell, Tony Bennett, Prince Harry and even President Joe Biden.

The concert itself featured hits, album cuts and fan favorites from across Elton’s entire career, from his very first hit, “Your Song,” to last year’s “Cold Heart,” performed with special guest Dua Lipa.  She was one of three guests for this final show: Brandi Carlile stood in for the late George Michael on “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me,” while Kiki Dee, who sang with Elton at the original Dodger Stadium shows in 1975, returned to sing their number-one hit “Don’t Go Breaking My Heart.”

As Elton wrapped up the concert, he brought onstage the man without whom, he noted, he wouldn’t be here: Bernie Taupin, his songwriting partner of 55 years.  He also brought out what he said is the reason he’s retiring: his family. His husband David Furnish came onstage, along with their two adorable sons, Zachary and Elijah.

Elton told the crowd, “I became successful first in America, and you bought the singles and the albums, and the 8-tracks, the cassettes, and CDs, and more importantly, you bought the tickets to the shows….so I want to thank you for that, because you made me.”

He added, “Without America, I wouldn’t be here. So thank you for all the years of love and generosity and loyalty.”

“I wish you health and love and prosperity,” he concluded. “Be kind to each other, O.K.? And farewell.”

Here’s the set list for Elton’s final North American show:

“Bennie and the Jets”
“Philadelphia Freedom”
“I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues”
“Border Song”
“Tiny Dancer”
“Have Mercy on the Criminal”
“Rocket Man (I Think It’s Going to Be a Long, Long Time)”
“Take Me to the Pilot”
“Someone Saved My Life Tonight”
“Levon”
“Candle in the Wind”
“Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding”
“Burn Down the Mission”
“Sad Songs (Say So Much)”
“Sorry Seems to Be the Hardest Word”
“Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me” (with Brandi Carlile)
“The Bitch Is Back”
“I’m Still Standing”
“Don’t Go Breaking My Heart” (with Kiki Dee)
“Crocodile Rock”
“Saturday Night’s Alright for Fighting”

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers fans are mourning the death of Jason David Frank, the original Green Power Ranger.  Frank was 49.

Publicist Justine Hunt confirmed his passing to ABC News. “Please respect the privacy of his family and friends during this horrible time as we come to terms with the loss of such a wonderful human being,” Hunt said in a statement. “He loved his family, friends and fans very much. He will be truly missed.”

Frank played Tommy Oliver on Power Rangers, which debuted on Fox in 1993, and was hailed as one of the series’ most popular characters.

Frank’s character later took on the mantles of the White Power Ranger, Red Zeo Ranger, the Red Turbo Ranger and the Black Dino Ranger.  He made his final franchise appearance in 2018 and also made a cameo alongside original Pink Power Ranger Amy Jo Johnson in the 2017 Power Rangers movie.

Walter Emanuel Jones, the original Black Power Ranger, paid tribute to his late costar on Instagram. “Can’t believe it…. RIP Jason David Frank. My heart is sad to have lost another member of our special family.” he wrote while sharing a group photo of him and Frank, as well as Austin St. John and David Yost, respectively the original Red and Blue Power Rangers.

St. John also honored Frank in a post, writing, “‘Once a ranger, always a ranger’ thoughts and prayers…”

Frank is predeceased by costar Thuy Trang, the original Yellow Power Ranger, who died in a car accident in 2001.

Aside from acting, Frank was a professional mixed martial artist with an eighth degree black belt in karate. He also ran the Rising Sun Karate Academy.

Frank is survived by two sons, Jacob and Hunter, and two daughters, Jenna and Skye.

A cause of death is unconfirmed.

(KEY WEST, Fla.) — Five migrants have died and another five are missing after a boat capsized off the coast of Florida, the US Coast Guard said in a statement.

A group of migrants was traveling in a homemade boat when it capsized 50 miles off the coast of Little Torch Key, Florida, authorities said. Winds were 30 miles per hour on Saturday and the seas were 6 to 8 feet in the swell.

The Coast Guard said nine people were rescued because they were wearing life jackets, while four died almost immediately upon capsizing and one died after the incident.

“For individuals residing in the US seeking information on a family member possibly intercepted by the Coast Guard, please contact your local government representative,” the Coast Guard said.

The Department of Homeland Security, including Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, has warned migrants not to make the journey from the central triangle countries because it is incredibly dangerous and will result in some dying.
