“Chemo to Coachella”: Mark Hoppus is “very much in my feelings” ahead of Blink-182 reunion show

Blink-182‘s last-minute set at Coachella Friday marks the group’s first show back since reuniting with Tom DeLonge last year. Not only that, it’s Mark Hoppus‘ first full Blink-182 concert since his 2021 cancer battle.

In an Instagram post ahead of the performance, Hoppus declares, “Chemo to Coachella.”

“Very much in my feelings today,” Hoppus writes. “Grateful to be here and excited to play a rock show with my friends tonight.”

Additionally, the show is significant for Travis Barker, who’s been recovering from surgery on his finger. The operation required Blink to postpone the first leg of their world reunion tour, which was originally scheduled to kick off in Mexico in March.

When Blink-182’s next album arrives — their first with DeLonge since 2011 — you’ll be able to hear what it sounds like when Barker plays drums with a broken finger.

“I recorded the last three songs on the album with a broken finger,” Barker tells Rolling Stone.

Blink’s Coachella set takes place at 6:45 p.m. PT. You can watch Coachella performances livestreaming on YouTube.

Hardy was “in shock” hearing about his ACM nominations

Top ACM nominee Hardy was utterly incredulous when he found out he had nabbed seven nominations for the 2023 ACM Awards.

“I woke up in shock this morning. I had no idea that I’d be nominated for so much,” says Hardy, who earned nods in the Song of the Year, Music Event of the Year and Visual Media of the Year categories for his Lainey Wilson-assisted hit, “wait in the truck.”

He adds, “This truly feels like my year, and I’m just thankful that the industry would consider me as one of the top songwriters and artists in this town. Thanks to the ACM, Big Loud, The Neal Agency, and my publisher, Relative Music Group for all of the support. Thank you for all of it.”

“wait in the truck” is currently in the top four and rising on the country charts.

The 58th Academy of Country Music Awards, hosted by Dolly Parton and Garth Brooks, streams live on Amazon Prime Video May 11 at 8 p.m. ET.

Stewart Copeland revisiting The Police classics with new album, ‘Police Deranged for Orchestra’

Stewart Copeland is set to drop a new album of reworked classics from his Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band The Police.

Police Deranged for Orchestra, due out June 23, features songs like “Roxanne,” “Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic,” “Don’t Stand So Close To Me” and more, all arranged for a full orchestra. The first single from the album, a new version of “Every Breath You Take,” is out now.

Copeland first reworked Police classics back in 2021 for a concert tour of the U.S. and Europe. He’s also got some more shows planned and is set to play London, England, on April 28. He has dates confirmed through July 27 in Sicily, Italy, with more expected to be added. A complete list of dates can be found at stuartcopeland.net.

Amazon reportedly eyeing reboots of ‘Robocop’, ‘Stargate’, ‘Barbershop’ and more

When Amazon acquired MGM and its massive movie library, it wasn’t just to keep Prime Video members’ play buttons busy. Deadline is reporting the company is flipping through the studio’s intellectual property with an eye toward rebooting some of them, and Robocop, Stargate and Barbershop are among the IPs.

While the 1987 Robocop is considered a sci-fi classic and spawned two sequels of its own — as well as a short-lived TV series and a 2014 reboot that tanked — the trade says Amazon Studios is looking to upgrade it once again.

Same goes for Stargate. The 1994 sci-fi film starred James Spader and Kurt Russell, and spawned a long-running syndicated TV property, but it could be reawakened.

While Legally Blonde is an MGM property, and a third movie is already in the script phase, that universe could be back in play under Amazon Studios — for the big or small screen.

According to Deadline, Barbershop, Fame and The Magnificent Seven are also on the docket for new TV properties, sources say.

New Music Friday: Nicki Minaj & Ice Spice, Young Bleu, NLE Choppa, Kodak Black and more

NLE Choppa, Cottonwood 2 — The 22-track album is the rapper’s attempt at redemption since he feels he kinda “messed up my breakout year,” he told BET.

Young Bleu, Love Scars II — The follow-up to 2020’s Love Scars: The 5 Stages of Emotions features 15 songs and appearances from Ty Dolla $ign, Tink and Chris Brown.

Ice Spice & Nicki Minaj, “Princess Diana” — Ice’s “Princess Diana” now has a version with bars from Nicki. The song and video come after Nicki shared Ice’s Dazed cover, which called the young star the “people’s princess.”

Kodak Black, “No Love for a Thug” — The rapper longs for love on the slow track. “I’m wondering, is therе no love for a thug?” he sings. “Do anybody got a soft spot for a menace?”

Jorja Smith, “Try Me” — The singer returns with the new song and accompanying visual. She says it’s “the first time I’m putting stuff out there that I can connect with right now.”

Ciara, Lola Brooke, Lady London, “Da Girls (Girls Mix)” — In the new visual, the girls have fun in a luxurious mansion while rapping lyrics intended to uplift “da girls.”

Saving Abel premieres new song, “Baptize Me,” with original frontman

Saving Abel is back with a new song called “Baptize Me.”

The track marks the first fresh material from the “Addicted” rockers since reuniting with original frontman Jared Weeks in 2021. Weeks had previously been absent from the group since 2013.

“Ever since I left the band it’s like I’ve been clawing and fighting to take my life back,” says Weeks, who’s now sober following years of substance abuse. “It was hard at first but with consistency and hard work, I’ve been able to look at the things in my life that I’m not proud of, and I’ve been able to face those things, figure out where they are coming from and I’ve been able to heal.”

“That’s what the new single ‘Baptize Me’ is about,” he continues. “Consistently fighting for yourself, your life, how you treat others, and what you stand for!”

Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott: New bands “aren’t getting the chance” to hit it big

While some people may think rock is dead, Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott isn’t one of them, although he does think it’s much harder for bands these days.

“Nowadays kids just shove their headphones on, not talking to their parents or their mates. It’s a very insular world,” he tells Metro UK. “Which is why I think playing live has become very important because people have to rub shoulders.”

Elliott notes that the “industry has changed,” which is making it more difficult for new rock bands to get noticed.

“Some of these new bands write great songs and they’re going about it the right way, but they aren’t getting the chance,” he says. “I don’t think it’s their fault, and that’s the scary bit.” He adds, “Even scarier is that Def Leppard started in ’77 and we’re still talking about us in 2023. Are we still gonna be talking about these newer bands in 2065?”

Next up for Def Leppard, they’re getting ready to release their new album, Drastic Symphonies, on May 19. They’ll be at Royal Festival Hall in London on May 16 to talk about their new book, Definitely: The Official Story of Def Leppard, which is hitting book stores May 9. Brett Young’s offering an invitation to “Dance With You”

Brett Young has dropped new track “Dance With You.”

Co-written by Brett, Jordan Minton and Jimmy Robbins, the autobiographical song’s about a lifetime commitment to “dance” with one’s significant other through the good and bad.

“Just pick out a song I can hold you to/ Go on, let down your hair, baby, kick off your shoes/ They say, ‘Life’s a dance,’ and if that’s the truth/ I only wanna dance with you,” he sings in the chorus.

“It meant so much to release a little bit of my own love story,” Brett says. “My wife and I have a bond that’s hard to put into words. This song and video let us relive the events of such a special day and the start of our journey. Getting to share it with the world made me even more thankful for what we have.”

The aforementioned “Dance With You” lyric video features footage from Brett and his wife’s wedding day, including their very special first dance.

Brett’s current single, “You Didn’t,” is number nine and rising on the country charts.

Jackson Browne postpones Melbourne show due to illness

Jackson Browne is under the weather. The singer was forced to postpone his Friday, April 14, concert at Margaret Court Arena in Melbourne, Australia, “due to illness.”

The show has now been moved to Monday, August 16. His concerts in Sydney on April 15, as well as his remaining dates in New Zealand, are expected to go on as planned.

Those unable to attend the new date are eligible for refunds.

Browne’s tour Down Under is set to run until April 21. He returns to the U.S. for a tour starting June 3 in Columbus, Ohio. A full list of dates can be found at jacksonbrowne.com.

David Bowie’s ‘Let’s Dance’ turns 40

April 14 marks the 40th anniversary of the release of David Bowie’s hit album Let’s Dance, which was his first album after leaving RCA Records. Co-produced by Nile Rodgers of Chic, the album was recorded at the Power Station in New York City and featured a then-unknown Stevie Ray Vaughan on lead guitar.

“David opened a door for me that never closed, and for that I am grateful,” Rodgers told Variety in 2018 about working with the rock star.

The album went on to be a huge commercial success for Bowie, spending three weeks on top the U.K. album chart and peaking at four on the U.S. chart. Its success was aided by three hit singles: the album’s title track, which went to number one on the Billboard Hot 100; “China Girl,” which peaked at 10; and “Modern Love,” which landed at 14. All were accompanied by stylish music videos that got continuous play on MTV.

Bowie supported the album with the Serious Moonlight tour, which was his first trek in five years. Lasting from May to December, the tour became the biggest tour of 1983.

Let’s Dance went on to sell over 10 million copies worldwide to become Bowie’s bestselling album. It was certified Platinum by the RIAA and was nominated for a Grammy for Album of the Year, but lost to Michael Jackson’s Thriller.
