(NEW YORK) — A man has been taken into custody after allegedly killing two people and injuring a third in an apparent stabbing spree in Manhattan, authorities said.

The first victim, a 30-year-old construction worker, was fatally attacked on West 19th Street at 8:22 a.m. Monday, the NYPD said.

About two hours later, another man was fatally stabbed on East 30th Street, police said.

The third victim, a woman, is in critical condition after being attacked around 10:55 a.m. on East 46th Street, police said.

The 51-year-old suspect — who lives at the Bellevue Men’s Shelter on East 30th Street — allegedly provoked disputes with the victims, according to police. He appeared to pick the victims at random, police said.

Two knives have been recovered, police said.

Ed Sheeran claims upcoming Band Aid 40th anniversary single used his vocals without approval

Ed Sheeran claims upcoming Band Aid 40th anniversary single used his vocals without approval
ABC/Paula Lobo

It was recently announced that an “Ultimate Mix” of Band Aid‘s “Do They Know It’s Christmas?,” the song that invented the concept of the all-star charity record, would be released on Nov. 25. But one artist who was advertised as participating says his vocals were used without permission.

The “Ultimate Mix,” created to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the original song, uses vocals from artists who’ve participated in all the different versions of the song that have been made over the years. Those artists, say organizers, include Sting, U2‘s Bono, Ed Sheeran, Harry Styles, Coldplay‘s Chris Martin, Sam Smith, the late George Michael and the late Sinéad O’Connor.

But Ed writes on his Instagram Story, “My approval wasn’t sought on this new Band Aid 40 release and had I had the choice I would have respectively declined the use of my vocals.”

“A decade on and my understanding of the narrative associated with this has changed,” he wrote, adding a Story from a British/Ghanaian singer and rapper named Fuse ODG, which he claims “eloquently explains” that understanding.

In that Story, Fuse says that all-star charity projects like Band Aid and the subsequent Live Aid concerts — which were created to raise money to end famine in Ethiopia — “perpetuate damaging stereotypes that stifle Africa’s economic growth, tourism and investment.”

He writes, “By showcasing dehumanizing imagery, these initiatives fuel pity rather than partnership, discouraging meaningful engagement.”

Ed adds that he agrees with Fuse’s post: “This is just my personal stance. I’m hoping it’s a forward-looking one. Love to all x.”

The BBC reported that over the last 40 years, the Band Aid Charitable Trust has raised an estimated $180 million for famine relief and other causes.

Country newcomer Greylan James has enlisted Cole Swindell for his new song, “Things That I Can’t Change.”

“I’ve been a big Greylan James fan since the first time we wrote together a few years back,” says Cole. “Not only is he a great songwriter, but his voice and the way he delivers a song is just special.”

“I was honored when he asked me to sing on ‘Things That I Can’t Change’ because it’s such a GREAT song and message that I think a lot of folks, like myself, can relate to,” Cole shares of the life-inspired tune. “I’m excited to see where it takes him and thankful he and his team asked me to be part of it.”

Greylan adds, “I think ‘Things That I Can’t Change’ showcases what country music is all about and what I want my music to be about, telling stories that we have all lived. This song really makes me think about the things people do and the parts of their life that they aren’t insanely proud of. But we can take the lessons learned from those moments to grow from it and also accept that people can change from the other side of it.”

The Nashville Harbor Records & Entertainment artist has opened for Cole, Scotty McCreery, Old Dominion and Ashley Cooke. He also co-wrote Jordan Davis‘ “Next Thing You Know,” which earned an ACM Award for Song of the Year.

Cole’s currently in the top 25 and ascending the country charts with his latest single, “Forever to Me.”

Climate and environment updates: US counties lack sufficient air quality monitoring

(NEW YORK) — The climate crisis is not a distant threat; it’s happening right now and affecting what matters most to us. Hurricanes intensified by a warming planet and drought-fueled wildfires are destroying our communities. Rising seas and flooding are swallowing our homes. And record-breaking heatwaves are reshaping our way of life.

The good news is we know how to turn the tide and avoid the worst possible outcomes. However, understanding what needs to be done can be confusing due to a constant stream of climate updates, scientific findings, and critical decisions that are shaping our future.

That’s why the ABC News Climate and Weather Unit is cutting through the noise by curating what you need to know to keep the people and places you care about safe. We are dedicated to providing clarity amid the chaos, giving you the facts and insights necessary to navigate the climate realities of today — and tomorrow.

Hundreds of US counties lack sufficient air quality monitoring

Cities, counties and government agencies use air quality monitors to measure the pollutants and particulates that can cause significant health problems. However, according to a new report, hundreds of counties across the United States lack these essential measurement tools.

According to the American Lung Association’s 2024 State of the Air report, more than two-thirds of U.S. counties do not have official ground-based air quality monitoring stations. As a result, dangerous levels of pollution are going undetected and unaddressed.

The association used satellite data to estimate that 300 of the 2,700 U.S. counties with incomplete or no air monitoring data had potentially failing grade levels of fine particulate matter between 2020 and 2022.

Lexi Popovici, lead report author and a senior manager of the American Lung Association, said satellite data could help fill the data gap left by the missing air monitors and help people and officials, particularly in rural areas, take protective measures. She said the technology could also supplement existing ground monitors and ultimately create a more comprehensive air quality monitoring system.

“Using satellite data actually helps fill in those gaps to identify pollution in places that might otherwise go undetected, and this can help millions of Americans understand what air quality they are breathing,” Popovici said.

Earlier this year, the Environmental Protection Agency introduced a more stringent national annual average standard based on the risk to human health.

Fine particulate pollution is a mix of solid or liquid particles suspended in the air – smaller than a strand of human hair – that can be present even in air that looks clean, according to the EPA. These pollutants are considered the most dangerous forms of air pollution and are linked to asthma, lung and heart disease, and other respiratory health issues.

Popovici said subsequent reports will focus more on the potential of community air quality resources and ways to mitigate environmental injustices.

Liam Gallagher says he was “joking” about Oasis recording a reunion album.

Following news that the “Wonderwall” outfit had gotten back together for a 2025 tour, Liam declared that a new Oasis album was “finished” and “in the bag.” He later said that he was “blown away” by the material.

However, in a new social media post replying to a report about possible new Oasis material, Liam writes, “Let’s just calm the f*** down there is no oasis album in the making I was f****** joking.”

“The reason being because everyone is a little uptight these days,” he adds. “I’m sorry if I have upset anyone but f*** me it was a laugh.”

While we may not be getting a new Oasis album — but who knows, maybe Liam is joking about joking — their reunion tour remains full steam ahead.

“Let’s just get in a big stadium and go ape s*** and see what happens after that,” Liam says.

Oasis’ tour launches in July in the U.K. and will come to the U.S. in August. It’ll mark the first time Liam and Noel Gallagher have shared the live stage since Oasis broke up in 2009.

As he recently teased, Sammy Hagar is doing more The Best of All Worlds shows, and this time he’s heading  to Las Vegas.

The rocker just announced dates for The Best of All Worlds Tour – The Residency at Dolby Live at Park MGM. The Vegas residency consists of nine shows, running from April 30 to May 17.

Joining Sammy will once again be Michael Anthony and Joe Satriani, with Kenny Aaronoff handling drums in place of Jason Bonham. In fact, Bonham recently confirmed he wouldn’t be back, after he announced his own shows and a fan asked him if he’d be back with Sammy. He replied in the comments, “Sammy has decided to carry on with Kenny so Sadly no.”

“I’m so looking forward to this residency and being able to stay in one place so we can get the sound and production completely dialed in,” said Sammy. “It also allows the band to experiment with the setlist every night – that’s why it’s going to be exclusive to Las Vegas.”

He adds, “I plan on digging deeper into the Van Halen catalog, and my solo career, Montrose and Chickenfoot, as well. The fans are in for a lot of surprises.”

(SEATTLE) — An 11-year-old is among three suspects who’ve been arrested in connection with a string of armed robberies at convenience stores and gas stations in the Seattle area, police said.

The 11-year-old, a 21-year-old and a 19-year-old are accused of four robberies committed within two hours early Friday morning and a fifth robbery Friday night, Seattle police said.

The suspects, who wore face masks and were armed with guns, demanded merchandise and cash before fleeing in stolen cars, police said.

No one was hurt, police said.

After the fifth robbery on Friday night, the suspects led several law enforcement agencies on a car chase that spanned multiple jurisdictions, police said.

The suspects eventually stopped the car and fled on foot, and were then taken into custody without incident, police said Saturday.

The adults were booked into King County Jail and the 11-year-old was taken to the Judge Patricia H. Clark Children & Family Justice Center, police said.

No guns have been recovered, police said.

(WASHINGTON) — President-elect Donald Trump continues to announce his picks for top jobs inside his administration, most recently naming nominees for energy secretary and to helm the Federal Communications Commission.

Meanwhile, fallout continues for former Rep. Matt Gaetz, Trump’s choice to serve as attorney general. The House Ethics Committee was investigating Gaetz for alleged sexual misconduct and illicit drug use. Calls are growing for the panel to release its report on Gaetz, who resigned from the House last week.

‘Dangerous’: Caroline Kennedy weighs in on RFK’s views on vaccines

Caroline Kennedy weighed in on her cousin Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.’s views on vaccines during remarks on Monday after he was announced as the nominee for Health and Human Services secretary.

“I think Bobby Kennedy’s views on vaccines are dangerous, but I don’t think that most Americans share them. So we’ll just have to wait and see what happens,” she said at the National Press Club of Australia.

“You know, I grew up with him,” she added. “So, I have known all this for a long time and others are just getting to know him.”

Kennedy added that her uncle, Sen. Ted Kennedy, had fought for affordable health care, and that her family was proud of President Barack Obama signing the Affordable Care Act, which she said was built on Sen. Kennedy’s work.

“I would say that our family is united in terms of our support for the public health sector and infrastructure and has greatest admiration for the medical profession in our country, and Bobby Kennedy has got a different set of views,” Caroline Kennedy said.

‘Morning Joe’ co-hosts say they met with Trump on Friday

MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski said on Monday morning that they had met with President-elect Donald Trump on Friday at Mar-a-Lago.

The goal of the meeting, they said, was to “restart communications” among the liberal-leaning morning show hosts and the incoming administration.

“Last Thursday, we expressed our own concerns on this broadcast, and even said we would appreciate the opportunity to speak with the president-elect himself. On Friday, we were given the opportunity to do just that. Joe and I went to Mar-a-Lago to meet personally with President-elect Trump. It was the first time we have seen him in seven years,” Brzezinski said.

Scarborough said the hosts and Trump did not “see eye to eye on a lot of issues, and we told him so.”

“What we did agree on was to restart communications,” Brzezinski added, noting that Trump seemed “cheerful” and “upbeat.”
