(NEW YORK) — Now that the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs are officially set to face-off in Super Bowl LVII in Glendale, Arizona, on Feb. 12, one mom faces the ultimate dilemma: Who should she root for?

Donna Kelce is the first mother to have two children go head-to-head in a Super Bowl. Her sons — Jason Kelce on the Eagles and Travis Kelce on the Chiefs — will be competing in a few short weeks for the Lombardi Trophy.

“My mom can’t lose,” Travis Kelce told the press in a post-game interview on Sunday.

Jason Kelce, meanwhile, acknowledged his brother’s win Sunday night, shortly after the Kansas City Chiefs beat the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20, tweeting that he’s “officially done being a Chiefs fan this season!!”

The brothers grew up in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and played as teammates at the University of Cincinnati in 2008.

On Sunday night, Donna Kelce tweeted “#HeightsHighandUCBearcatSuperBowl” to celebrate both her sons.

Jason Kelce, the older brother of the two, was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in 2011 and has since played 12 seasons with the team as a center, according to ESPN. Just two seasons behind his brother, Travis Kelce has played as a tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs for 10 seasons after he was drafted in 2013.

The Kelce brothers are both offensive players for their respective teams so the two won’t be on the field at the same time during the competition. Both are looking to claim their second Super Bowl titles.

US skier Kyle Smaine killed in avalanche in Japan

(NEW YORK) — Kyle Smaine, a U.S. professional skier who was the halfpipe gold medalist in the 2015 world championships, died Sunday in an avalanche in Japan, according to his wife and a fellow skier who was also caught in the snow.

Smaine, 31, was in Nagano over the weekend for a marketing trip for Ikon Pass and Nagano Tourism when the avalanche took place on Mount Hakuba Norikura, according to a blog post by the skiing news site Mountain Gazette.

Pro skier and Mountain Gazette correspondent Adam Ü was also at the resort along with Mountain Gazette photographer Grant Gunderson, who was the photographer on the marketing trip, according to the site.

Ü told the Mountain Gazette that the three of them were going out to ski during the last day of their trip on Sunday.

“We had no camera gear with us. We were going out for fun,” he told the site.

Gunderson went back to the resort when Ü and Smaine went for a second lap and were joined by a group of Austrian skiers.

Ü and Smaine were at the bottom of the mountain and were transitioning their backcountry gear back into uphill mode, when the avalanche started as some of the Austrian skiers were coming down the mountain, according to Ü.

“We heard the crack. We realized it is a big one. We started running and then we got hit,” Ü told Mountain Gazette.

Ü said he was buried 1.5 meters deep for approximately 25 minutes before rescuers came to his aid. Luckily, he said he was left unscathed.

Ü explained that rescuers did find Smaine, but he was unresponsive.

The cold weather and other factors have hampered search and rescue efforts for the 13 people who were caught in the avalanche, according to Nagano authorities.

Later Sunday night, Smaine’s wife Jenna Dramise posted a tribute to her husband on her Instagram page hours after the avalanche.

“I’m so incredibly thankful that I got to marry you and have you in my life. You loved skiing more than anyone I’ve ever met,” she said.

Dramise said she and Smaine married in November and had been together since 2010.

Smaine competed professionally for years in many competitions, including the X Games, and won a gold medal in halfpipe at the FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboarding World Championships 2015.

Smaine posted a video to his Instagram page Saturday before the tragic accident showing a first-person video of him skiing in Nagano.

“Unbelievable snow quality, non-stop storms, and really fun terrain that seems to get better the more exploring you do,” he wrote in the Instagram post.

Many pro skiers expressed their remorse for Smaine online following the news of his passing. David Wise dedicated his X Games gold medal win in Men’s Ski SuperPipe Sunday night in Smaine’s memory.

“We all did this for Kyle tonight. It’s a little bit of an emotional day for us. We lost a friend, but I’m glad I can take one home for him,” he said.

Damar Hamlin’s health providers given keys to city of Cincinnati

(CINCINNATI) — Health providers from the University of Cincinnati Medical Center who cared for Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin after he collapsed from cardiac arrest were honored with the key to the city.

Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval presented the key to the city during a ceremony on Thursday morning to providers on behalf of the care staff in different departments and specialties who contributed to the care and recovery of the Bills’ safety.

Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest on the field on Jan. 2 at Paycor Stadium against the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football during the first quarter, team officials said. Medical professionals immediately rushed to give him aid on the field and restarted his heart.

Hamlin was hospitalized in the critical care unit at UC Medical Center and was on a ventilator after the incident. His breathing tube was removed and he was released after nine days.

“What is so incredibly special is that, while Damar Hamlin’s case was noteworthy due to it being on national television, it was not noteworthy for the care that he got,” Pureval said in a press release. “Every single person, whether they are a professional athlete or someone just off the street, receives the same kind of exceptional, first-in-class care. We are so grateful for your heroic work, day in and day out.”

Hamlin has himself expressed gratitude to the UCMC staff for his care and tweeted that he planned to donate proceeds from his shirt sale to first responders and the UC Trauma center.

“As our community’s only adult Level I Trauma Center, UC Medical Center is uniquely equipped to provide and coordinate the highest level of complex care,” Rob Wiehe, UC Health and Chief Administrative Officer, said in a statement to ABC News. “These outstanding teams take pride in providing advanced medical care to every member of our community who needs us every day. We thank you for recognizing them.”

In addition to the key ceremony, Cincinnati Children’s Hospital received $10,000 worth of toys from Fisher-Price and Mattel, both toy companies that have partnerships with the Bills organization.

Cincinnati Children’s said it would sort and distribute the toys throughout the center to each child receiving care at the medical center.

Hamlin, since his discharge, visited teammates around the Bills facility and attended their AFC Divisional Playoff matchup at Highmark Stadium, where they faced the Bengals again on Jan. 22.

The Bills lost 27-10, ending their season.

Jordon Rooney, Hamlin’s longtime friend and business partner, said in an interview with ESPN he still has a long way to go in his recovery but Hamlin remains “upbeat and positive and ready to continue to overcome this.”

Damar Hamlin attends Bills, Bengals playoff game as safety continues to recover

(BUFFALO, N.Y.) — The Cincinnati Bengals defeated the Buffalo Bills on Sunday during a highly anticipated rematch, which was Bills safety Damar Hamlin’s first time at the stadium after he collapsed from cardiac arrest during the teams’ regular season meeting.

“Welcome home,” the Bills tweeted along with video of Hamlin and his family at the stadium.

Hamlin collapsed suddenly after tackling Bengals wide receiver Tee Higgins on Jan. 2. He was quickly surrounded by medical personnel, who performed CPR and restarted his heart on the field before being loaded into an ambulance and taken to a nearby hospital.

While he remained on a ventilator initially, he had the breathing tube removed days after being admitted to the hospital and doctors said his neurological function remained intact.

The game was suspended and later canceled.

Hamlin was released from UC Health in Cincinnati to Buffalo General for further treatment on Jan. 9.

Hamlin was discharged from the hospital nine days after the incident and has since been recovering at home.

While Hamlin has made great strides in his recovery from a cardiac arrest event earlier this month, he still has a long way to go in his recovery, his family spokesman told ESPN on Thursday.

“Despite being out of the hospital, Damar still has a lengthy recovery. Damar still requires oxygen and is having his heart monitored regularly. He has visited with the team a few times but he still gets winded very easily. He’s upbeat and positive and ready to continue to overcome this,” Hamlin’s spokesman, Jordon Rooney said.

Earlier this week, Buffalo Bills Coach Sean McDermott said that Hamlin has begun spending more time at the team’s facility and is there “almost daily,” ESPN reported.

The Bengals won the rematch and defeated the Bills 27-10.

ABC News’ Teddy Grant contributed to this report.
