You’ve heard of an elderly woman behind the counter in a small town, but what about a 60-year-old man behind the microphone in a hugely successful rock band?

Eddie Vedder hits the big 6-0 on Monday. The Pearl Jam frontman was born Edward Louis Severson III on Dec. 23, 1964, in Evanston, Illinois.

While living in San Diego in the ’80s, Vedder recorded a demo for Seattle musicians Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament and Mike McCready, who were forming a band called Mookie Blaylock after the NBA player of the same name. The trio was also in a group called Temple of the Dog alongside Soundgarden‘s Chris Cornell and Matt Cameron.

Vedder was hired as Mookie Blaylock’s vocalist, and he also sang on Temple of the Dog’s debut album, contributing co-lead vocals to the song “Hunger Strike” alongside Cornell. Meanwhile, Mookie Blaylock changed their name to Pearl Jam and started recording their debut album, Ten, named after the player’s jersey number.

Alongside Nirvana‘s NevermindTen helped make “grunge” a household term with songs including “Even Flow” and “Alive,” that latter of which was inspired by Vedder learning that his dad was not his biological father.

Pearl Jam followed Ten with the albums Vs. and Vitalogy while also making headlines for boycotting Ticketmaster, which would last until 1998. Subsequent albums would take more experimental turns, but PJ’s devoted fanbase stayed with them as they built their status into one of rock’s biggest and most enduring bands.

All told, Pearl Jam’s sold over 85 million albums worldwide and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2017. Vedder’s also put out a trio of solo records, the most recent of which being 2022’s Earthling

Seven to eight: Charli XCX and Post Malone now have even more Grammy nominations

Seven to eight: Charli XCX and Post Malone now have even more Grammy nominations
Atlantic Records

Charli XCX and Post Malone already had tons of nominations going into the 2025 Grammys, but they both just picked up one more each.

Billboard reports that the two artists are now nominated for Best Recording Package for their albums Brat and F-1 Trillion. The albums were already nominated, but at first, neither Charli nor Posty were listed as art directors on their projects. Since then, those credits have been updated and resubmitted, so now they each score an extra nod in that category, giving them eight apiece.

As a result, Charli and Posty are tied as the second most-nominated artists this year, behind Beyoncé, who has 11 nods. They’ve pulled ahead of Billie Eilish and Kendrick Lamar, who have seven each.

Billboard notes that artists are becoming more involved in the art direction of their albums. Among the musicians who’ve won Grammys in the Best Recording Package category for art directing or co-directing their albums over the years: Frank Sinatra, Joni Mitchell, Pearl Jam‘s Jeff Ament, Tool‘s Adam Jones, Father John Misty and Suzanne Vega.

Yung Miami is in her Yams era. For those who don’t know what that means, she breaks it down to Summer Walker on the latest episode of Summer’s Over It Radio.

“The Yams era is my solo era. It’s just me on my own and I feel like Yams, for me, it represents Miami. It is another word for Miami. We got Skyami, we got Yams. So I was just like, ‘I want to take it back to where I started…,'” Miami explains. “It’s just taking it back to the roots, just back creating and just making decisions for myself because before I was in a group, so it was always a group decision. So it’s just solely me. Everything that you see is on me.”

The Yams era includes the entrepreneurial side, which Miami tapped into in 2022 when she “wasn’t really making no money from rap, just show money.”

“It was starting to slow up and I was like, ‘I got to do something.’ And I was like, ‘Okay. I’m going to do clothes,’ because I’ve been selling clothes before I started rapping. I always had an online boutique. It was called Caresha’s Closet,” she says. After realizing her merch was “iffy,” she decided to tap into her love of playing games and eventually came up with Resha Roulette.

Miami’s also still on working on her podcast and music, revealing she has “a project that’s 85% done” and will come out in 2025.

She says fans can expect “a little bit of everything,” adding, “I’m definitely popping my s***. We definitely going to dance. We definitely going to twerk. We definitely going to cry.”

“I feel like music is therapy and I want to just put all my emotions in my music,” she explains.

Jeff Lynne’s ELO is set to say their final farewell to the road in London when they headline BST Hyde Park on July 13, and Lynne tells Mojo magazine, “It will certainly be an emotional show for me.”

“It has been great getting to tour the world and to this day at every show I am always surprised and delighted by the crowds and the energy they bring,” he adds. “I will miss it.”

Lynne announced in March that ELO would be heading out on their final tour. Dubbed The Over and Out Tour, the U.S. dates kicked off in August and wrapped in October.

As for what fans can expect from the final show, Lynne shares, “We will of course be playing all the songs the fans want to hear,” adding, “As for surprises, these are the final shows so who knows what can happen!”

And just because Lynne won’t be touring as ELO anymore, it doesn’t mean it’s the last we’ve heard of him.

“I am happy with what I’ve done, and the crowd reactions to the shows and the music have been amazing,” he says. “This is not a farewell to music. I am excited to return to the studio full-time, which is what I love!”

Is Kelly Clarkson shading her ex in her latest Christmas video? She released a visualizer for her album When Christmas Comes Around … Again, an expanded version of her 2021 holiday LP. The image on the video shows a roaring fireplace with four stockings hanging above it. One says “Mom,” one says “Remy” and one says “River” — those are the two children Kelly shares with ex-husband Brandon Blackstock. But instead of a name, the fourth stocking says, “Nope.” Of course, Kelly could simply be indicating that she’s not dating anyone right now.

Sabrina Carpenter‘s Short n’ Sweet is the U.K.’s official Christmas #1 album of 2024: It’s a prestigious honor in that country that many artists vie for every year. The album returned to the top of the U.K. album chart, marking its second week on top overall this year. The album produced three #1 U.K. singles this year: “Taste,” “Please Please Please” and “Espresso.”

Pink and her husband, Carey Hart, have been married for 19 years and he tells US Weekly, “I’m still getting called an idiot.” But all kidding aside, he says the secret to their marriage is “communication, having a teammate [and] talking through bad situations.” He adds, “Marriage isn’t easy, and it’s always coming back to the table.” Pink and Carey wed in 2006, separated in 2008, reconciled in 2010 and then had their kids, Willow and Jameson.
