Jethro Tull’s Ian Anderson doesn’t seem all that impressed with Mick Jagger.

The 77-year-old rocker criticized the Rolling Stones frontman’s singing in an interview with Now Spinning Magazine as he was addressing what it physically takes to perform at his age.

Discussing the challenges faced by artists, Anderson, who sings and plays the flute onstage, said “it depends what you do.” He adds, “You can be physically animated, but there’s a degree to which you can only do so much if you’re playing a flute.”

He then compared it to what the now-82-year-old Jagger does onstage, suggesting it doesn’t take much to perform like him since he “didn’t set the bar very high in terms of vocal skills right from the very beginning.” Anderson did say he meant “no disrespect.”

“He’s a shouter, and he doesn’t have to really hit the notes or necessarily be terribly great on intonation or phrasing or anything,” Anderson said. “He runs around in a very animated way, and that’s great for someone who’s, you know, whatever, a couple of years older than me, or three years older than me. That’s fine.”

Anderson added that what he does is “not easy” and that “there is a limit to what you can do” when playing the flute.

Sean Combs’ lawyers ask judge to release him from jail while awaiting sentencing

Attorneys for Sean “Diddy” Combs have asked a federal judge to release him from jail ahead of his sentencing, scheduled for Oct. 3, saying that there are “exceptional reasons” why he shouldn’t remain behind bars.

Combs was convicted on July 2 on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution in a split verdict that acquitted him of two counts of sex trafficking and one count of racketeering conspiracy.

In a letter Tuesday addressed to Judge Arun Subramanian, who presided over Combs’ trial, attorneys for the rap music mogul argued that there were “exceptional reasons” that merited Combs’ release, stating in part that the law under which Combs was convicted “has never been applied to facts similar to these to prosecute or incarcerate any other person.”

“There has literally never been a case, like this one, where a person and his girlfriend arranged for adult men to have consensual sexual relations with the adult, long-term girlfriend as part of a demonstrated swingers lifestyle, and has been prosecuted and incarcerated under the Mann Act,” the defense letter said. “Sean Combs should not be in jail for this conduct.”

The 12-page letter proposes that Combs be released on $50 million bail and reside in his home in Miami while awaiting sentencing, with any travel “limited to the Southern District of Florida, the Southern District of New York for attorney meetings, as well as airports necessary to travel between the two.”

Though Combs was acquitted of the more serious sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy charges, Subramanian declined to release him on bail prior to sentencing, citing a provision in the transportation to engage in prostitution law that he said presumes detention.

Combs has spent more than 10 months behind bars at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, since his arrest in September 2024. His attorneys initially attempted and then discontinued efforts to secure an earlier sentencing date for him.

Even though “Don’t Mind If I Do” has just started making its mark at country radio, the Riley Green/Ella Langley duet has already been certified Platinum.

Of course, the title track of Riley’s 2024 album isn’t his only success with Ella: their smash “you look like you love me” is already double Platinum.

That’s not Riley’s most-consumed song, though. That honor goes to “I Wish Grandpas Never Died,” which is triple Platinum. His first #1, “There Was This Girl,” and his most recent one, “Worst Way,” are double Platinum, as well.

The Recording Industry Association of America certifies a song Platinum once its consumption reaches 1 million units. Riley’s “Different ‘Round Here,” “Georgia Time,” “When She Comes Home Tonight” and “Half of Me” with Thomas Rhett are Platinum, as well.

Jonas Brothers don’t have any regrets about going on hiatus back in 2013, but they all admit they could’ve communicated better with each other.

In a clip of the new episode of Mythical Kitchen’s Last Meals debuted by Billboard Tuesday, Nick was asked if he felt guilty about the band breakup, being that it was his idea.

“Not guilt so much as, in reflection, I can definitely see how I could have more lovingly communicated something that needed to be said,” he admitted.

“I think we all knew … it had run its course,” he added. “I just didn’t know how to maturely articulate that and lovingly do that.”

As for Joe and Kevin, they say don’t hold any resentment toward Nick because the break “needed to happen.”

“We were having such a difficult time just being real with each other back then,” Joe added. “Now it’s like we can communicate way better, because we don’t need to be scared to have tough conversations.”

The JoBros release their new album, Greetings From Your Hometown, on Aug. 8.

Zakk Wylde, who long played guitar in Ozzy Osbourne‘s solo band, has shared the final text message he received from the late metal legend.

Wylde tells Guitar World that he received the text following the Back to the Beginning concert on July 5, which was announced ahead of time as the final live performance by both Ozzy and the original Black Sabbath lineup. In addition to playing during Ozzy’s solo set, Wylde performed at Back to the Beginning with Pantera.

“Everybody and their mother were in the backstage dressing room and I just wanted to give [Ozzy] a break,” Wylde recalls of the scene right after Back to the Beginning concluded. “I figured we’d see him later on – the next day or whatever. But no.”

Ozzy died just over two weeks later, on July 22.

“The last text I got from Oz was saying, ‘Zakky, sorry, it was like a madhouse back there. I didn’t see you,'” Wylde says. “He goes, ‘Thanks for everything.’ It was just us talking, saying, ‘I love you, buddy.’ That was it.”

Pantera has since canceled and postponed tour dates so that the band can take “time and space to grieve” Ozzy’s loss.

On This Day, July 29, 2014…

Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers released their 13th studio album Hypnotic Eye, which would wind up being their final album.

Although it didn’t contain any hit singles, the album debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200, making it the only Petty album, either solo or with the Heartbreakers, to hit #1.

Singles released from the record include “American Dream Plan B,” “Red River” and “U Get Me High.”

The album earned a Grammy nod in 2015 for best rock album, but lost to Beck’s Morning Phase.

Although they never made another album, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers remained active and continued to tour together until Petty’s death in 2017.

Ozzy Osbourne‘s hometown of Birmingham, England, will host a funeral procession in honor of the late metal legend.

The proceedings will begin Wednesday at 1 p.m. local time, as a hearse will travel down Birmingham’s Broad Street leading up to the bridge and bench previously dedicated to Black Sabbath. Those who wish to attend are encouraged to arrive early.

Ozzy passed away July 22 at age 76. He’d just performed at Birmingham’s Villa Park on July 5 as part of the massive Back to the Beginning concert, which was announced ahead of time as both Ozzy and the original Black Sabbath’s lineup’s final live show.

Ozzy and Black Sabbath were also honored with the Birmingham Freedom of the City award in June.

In other Ozzy news, two of his solo songs are currently charting on the Billboard Hot 100.

“Crazy Train” makes its debut appearance on the all-genre chart, landing at #46. “Mama, I’m Coming Home” reenters at #49, 33 years after it peaked at #28 upon its initial release as a single in 1992.

Ozzy performed both “Crazy Train” and “Mama, I’m Coming Home” during his solo performance at the Back to the Beginning concert.

Meanwhile, the best-of compilation The Essential Ozzy Osbourne jumped to a new peak of #7 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart.

Jessie Murph says human connection is the most ‘wonderful part’ of tour

Jessie Murph says human connection is the most ‘wonderful part’ of tour
Columbia Records

Jessie Murph‘s Worldwide Hysteria Tour, in support of her album Sex Hysteria, is now underway. She says that while she’s added some new tricks to her stage show, the most important thing about being on the road is connecting emotionally with her fans.

“I’ve always wanted to do cheer stunts onstage while singing, and that’s something I’ve gotten to do,” she tells ABC Audio. “I originally didn’t want to dance. It wasn’t my intention. It was just to do cheer stunts.” She laughs, “And then they were like, ‘It’s gonna be weird if you just do cheer stunts.’ So now I’m dancing some, and I’m really excited about that. I’ve never really done that before and that’s been a huge learning curve.”

But Jessie says those moments when she’s onstage vibing with the crowd or backstage meeting fans are the true tour highlights for her.

“We’re singing to each other and there’s tears, and I’m getting to meet these people and hear their stories,” she notes. “That’s one of my favorite things about tour … being able to, like, talk to people and hear about why they’re there and why they connect with things and what they’re going through.”

“I think the human connection that I experience, and that they experience, during these shows is just the most wonderful part,” she adds.

So what kinds of stories do fans share with her?

“I hear a lot of people saying that they’ve gone through, like, pretty intense things,” she says. “I think they relate to more of the more vulnerable stuff. I’ve heard that it makes people feel less alone.”

But, Jess notes, “It also makes me feel less alone to hear people have also gone through similar things.” (AUDIO IS ABC 1-ON-1)

The Worldwide Hysteria Tour runs through November.
