Chappell Roan has yet to top the Billboard Hot 100, but across the pond, she’s now managed to do it twice.
The Grammy-winning star debuts at #1 on the U.K.’s Official Singles Chart with her new single, “The Subway.” It’s her second chart-topper of the year, following “Pink Pony Club,” which hit #1 back in March. Chappell is now the only artist who’s scored two number-one hits this year on that chart.
To date, the highest Chappell has gotten on the Hot 100 is #4, with both “Pink Pony Club” and “Good Luck Babe!” We’ll find out on Monday where “The Subway” is going to land.
Chappell has already said that the long-awaited tune, which she first performed live in 2024, isn’t the first taste of a new album, because that’ll probably be five years in the making. At least she’s doing a series of concerts this fall in select cities for her adoring fans.
“This song has always been one of the most emotional songs in my catalog,” he says. “To revisit it with someone as fearless and gifted as Ashley was both humbling and electric.”
“We didn’t just sing the song — we lived it,” he adds.
The collab is part of Ty’s double album THIRTY, celebrating his three decades in the music business. Back in June, he teamed up with LeAnn Rimes for a new take on “What Mattered Most.”
Look for the first volume of THIRTY to arrive in the fall.
J.I.D. proves God Does Like Ugly on his brand-new fourth studio album. Christo executive produced the 15-track project, which features collaborations with Westside Gunn, Clipse, Vince Staples, Ciara & Earthgang, Don Toliver, Ty Dolla $ign & 6lack and more.
Gunna‘s The Last Wun is out, and it’s believed to be his final project under Young Thug‘s Young Stoner Life label. Devon DeJardin designed the cover art, which features Gunna as a “sculptural and imposing apocalyptic-like figure,” per Rolling Stone. Gunna tells the mag it matches the “whole vibe of the project: pressure, pain, progress, and real reflection,” adding, “It had to reflect this moment in time, where I’m at, what I’ve been through, and where I’m headed.”
Bryson Tiller dropped one half of his double album, Solace & The Vices. Responding to a question on his Instagram Story, he shared he’s most proud of The Vices because he was able to complete it in two weeks without the help of any vices. “It was fun to bring some mixtape energy to streaming platforms,” he added. Solace comes out in eight weeks.
Larry June, 2 Chainz and The Alchemist released the deluxe edition of their album, Life Is Beautiful, complete with alternate artwork and two new songs. Mozzy is out with Intrusive Thoughts 2. He previously told Billboard the album finds him discussing various trials and tribulations as he did in part 1 — except there’s “more detail” and emotion.
Yungblud dropped the first part of a planned two-part album, Idols, in June. But now he says before part two comes out, he’ll have yet another project to share.
Speaking to U.K publication NME, the singer born Dom Harrison says, “Idols: Part Two is still coming, but there have been some mad opportunities presented to me in the past month, so there is going to be another project in between parts one and two. America has really opened its doors to me, and there’s a lot coming. What we’re about to announce is wild.”
Describing Part Two as “a lot darker and a lot heavier,” he adds, “It’s ready to come out, to be honest! But there has just been an opportunity that’s come through the door that I cannot say no to. So stay tuned for that!”
Yungblud also just opened up a new London multi-purpose space called Beautifully Romanticized Accidentally Traumatized — B.R.A.T. for short. The space, which is on London’s famed music biz hub Denmark Street, is meant to serve as a store, coffeehouse, bar, poolroom, concert venue and educational center. “It’s a flagship to say thank you to the people who listen to my music,” he explains.
Asked if he had to talk to pop star Charli XCX — whose album Brat took over the world last year — about that name, he says, “No. It was so funny because I registered that company four years ago because I just loved the name ‘Beautifully Romanticized Accidentally Traumatized.’ I wrote that down years ago, so it’s a happy coincidence. Great minds think alike.”
The Zombies’ ‘Odessey and Oracle’/Beechwood Park Records
The Zombies are set to reissue their iconic sophomore album Odessey and Oracle. The band just announced that the album has been newly remastered in mono and will be coming out digitally and on vinyl and CD.
After it was recorded in 1967, Odessey and Oracle was remixed in a then-new stereo format, which according to a press release, “sacrificed key elements from the mono recording.” A post on Instagram notes that the new reissue will give fans a chance to “experience the album the way it was intended to be heard and seen: raw, rich and timeless.” It will also feature the album’s artwork restored to its original colors.
As a preview of the release, the Rock & Roll Hall of Famers have shared the mono remaster of the track “This Will Be Our Year,” featuring restored horn parts that were lost in the stereo mix. It is now available via digital outlets.
Odessey and Oracle Mono Remastered will be out Sept. 26, and is available for preorder now.
Released in April 1968, Odessey and Oracle was not a commercial success when it initially came out. In fact, The Zombies has already broken up by the time the album was released. But the album’s third single “Time of the Season,” became a hit in the U.S. almost a year later, peaking at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100. It went on to become an iconic song for the band.
The Zombies’ story is highlighted in the recently released documentary Hung Up on a Dream: The Zombies, which is now available on Apple TV+ and Prime Video.
BABYMETAL‘s album METAL FORTH, which was originally supposed to come out in June and then had its released date changed a couple of times, has finally arrived.
The album includes collaborations with Poppy, Rage Against the Machine‘s Tom Morello, Slaughter to Prevail and Spiritbox. The group has just released a video for the Spiritbox collaboration, called “My Queen,” which you can watch now.
BABYMETAL recently completed a North American tour and is currently on tour in Asia, but they have two North American arena shows planned for the fall: one on Nov. 1 at the Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, and one on Nov. 7 in Mexico City.
Jonas Brothers have released their seventh studio album, Greetings from Your Hometown. The album features Dean Lewis on the track “Loved You Better,” rock band Switchfoot on the title track and Marshmello on the previously released “Slow Motion.” The JoBros’ JONAS 20: Greetings from Your Hometown tour kicks off Sunday with a hometown show at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium.
In addition to the Jonas Brothers collab, Marshmello is teaming up with Jelly Roll on the “heartfelt” new track, “Holy Water.” Marshmello plays 12-string, baritone guitar and mandolin on the track, as Jelly sings “One tear for the brokenhearted, pour out a little holy water.” The mask-wearing music maker calls the song “one of the most emotional songs I’ve ever released,” revealing, “It’s about losing a loved one. Unfortunately, a lot of us can relate to that. When I showed the initial idea to Jelly Roll and told him the story, he loved it.”
Rob Thomas has dropped a new song, “Picture Perfect,” along with a lyric video. “Surprise!! My new song, ‘Picture Perfect’ is out now!!” he wrote on Instagram. Rob, who’d previously asked fans to submit their #pictureperfectmoments to him, added, “I’ve absolutely loved reading all of [them] – keep em coming!!!” Rob’s new album, All Night Days, will be released Sept. 5.
Luke Combs at Lollapalooza (Joshua Applegate/WireImage)
You can now hear an extraordinary part of Luke Combs‘ Lollapalooza set, as he and pop star Alex Warren team up to release their live version of the smash hit, “Ordinary.”
The singer/songwriter surprised the crowd by joining Luke during his Thursday, July 31 performance at the festival in Chicago’s Grant Park, teaming up to do the song that’s spent nine weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100.
“Ordinary” is also the top-selling track in the U.S. this year. Already one of the “most talked about moments of the entire festival,” the Lollapalooza version’s been viewed more than 85 million times across social media platforms. You can check it out now on YouTube.
This isn’t Alex’s only foray into the country world. Jelly Roll appears on the track “Bloodline” on his You’ll Be Alright, Kid album.
Artist/producer Marshmello has already topped the country chart with “Miles on It” with Kane Brown, but he’s going deeper with his new collab with Jelly Roll.
Marshmello himself plays 12-string, baritone guitar and mandolin on “Holy Water,” as Jelly sings “One tear for the brokenhearted, pour out a little holy water.”
The mask-wearing music maker calls the “heartfelt” track “one of the most emotional songs I’ve ever released,” going on to reveal, “It’s about losing a loved one.”
“Unfortunately, a lot of us can relate to that,” he says. “When I showed the initial idea to Jelly Roll and told him the story, he loved it.”
“He’s an open book,” Marshmello continues, “and it was really great to see how it resonated. It inspired me to go in even more on the production and get creative with the country elements. He definitely brought it home to where it is now.”
Marshmello also recorded the quintuple Platinum “One Thing Right” with Kane in 2019.
Sabrina Carpenter has unveiled what she says will be the final alternate version of the cover of her album Man’s Best Friend — and it comes with a little something extra.
The artwork shows Sabrina dressed up at a dinner party, talking to a variety of men in tuxedos. The vinyl comes with what she describes as “such a special bonus track called ‘Such a Funny Way.’” It’s pressed on burgundy vinyl and is now available for preorder.
Following the outcry over Sabrina’s original cover for Man’s Best Friend — which shows her on her hands and knees, with an unseen man gripping a fistful of her hair — she’s since rolled out several different versions of the cover. One shows her lounging in a flower-filled room; another shows her dancing with a guy in what looks like the middle of a party. There’s also a picture disc that shows her laying on a bed with a guy holding onto her ankle.
Sabrina is also offering the album on CD and cassette. Among the merch she’s selling is a retro CD player that looks like a jewelry box on the outside and like a mini-turntable inside.
