Bruce Springsteen and members of The E Street Band made a surprise appearance at the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music’s Born to Run 50th anniversary celebration on Saturday, the Asbury Park Press reports.

Bruce and the band performed two Born to Run songs at the event, “Thunder Road” and “Born to Run.” Bruce was joined by current E Streeters Max WeinbergSteven Van ZandtGarry TallentRoy Bittan and Eddie Manion, as well as former keyboardist David Sancious and former drummer Ernest “Boom” Carter, who appeared on the album.

The Born to Run symposium, which ran Sept. 4-7 at the Pollak Theatre on the campus of Monmouth University, featured a variety of panels, with Springsteen participating in three of them.

Released Aug. 25, 1975, Born to Run became a breakthrough hit for Springsteen, propelling him to mainstream success. The album peaked at #3 on the Billboard 200 and has been certified seven-times Platinum by the RIAA.

In other Springsteen news, The Boss attended the U.S. Open Men’s Championship in Queens on Sunday with his daughter, Jessica Springsteen, and was reunited with one of his famous video co-stars. Courteney Cox, who starred in Bruce’s video for “Dancing in the Dark” before she became famous on Friends, was also there, and video shared on social media shows the actress coming over and giving Bruce a kiss hello.

On This Day, Sept. 8, 1990…

Jon Bon Jovi landed at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 with his debut solo single, “Blaze of Glory.”

The power ballad, which features Jeff Beck on guitar, was featured in the Emilio Estevez western Young Guns II, although Estevez originally wanted to use the Bon Jovi song “Wanted Dead or Alive.” Feeling that the song didn’t fit the theme of the movie, Jon decided to write the new tune.

“Blaze of Glory” would go on to earn Jon Bon Jovi a best original song nomination at the Oscars, although he lost to the Dick Tracy song “Sooner or Later,” which was written by Stephen Sondheim.

The tune did win a Golden Globe award for best original song and an American Music Award for best pop song.

Dua Lipa and Chaka Khan perform in Chicago, Sept. 2025 (Madison Phipps)

During her European tour, Dua Lipa started a tradition of performing a song by a local artist in each city, and sometimes even bringing out that artist to join her onstage. Now that her Radical Optimism tour has hit North America, she’s continuing the tradition.

When she played the first of two nights in Chicago on Sept. 5, Dua brought out Rock & Roll Hall of Famer and local hero Chaka Khan to sing “Ain’t Nobody.” The song, which Chaka recorded with her band Rufus, hit the Top 40 in 1983 and has since become a classic. You can now watch footage of the moment on Dua’s Instagram and Chaka’s as well.

“I [heart] CHICAGO! thank you thank you thank you for your energy! What an incredible two nights in your city!!!” Dua wrote. “AND I GOT TO SING WITH THE QUEEN OF FUNK @chakakhan!!!!”

During her second show in Chicago, Dua sang another song by a local group: “September” by Earth, Wind & Fire. When she kicked off the North American leg of her tour in Toronto Sept. 1, she sang “I’m Like a Bird” by local hero Nelly Furtado.

Dua’s next concert is Sept. 9 in Boston.

ABC/John Argueta

Tyla‘s whirlwind year following the release of her hit “Water” has shaped her into the artist she is today.

“I feel like I was kind of forced to grow up a bit faster and step more into myself. I feel like growing as a person influences the music a lot,” she tells V Magazine.

“Just traveling around, figuring things out, going through lots of ups and downs, life on the road, and even being from South Africa, where this life is very different than what I’m used to and what I grew up around naturally changed me as a person. You can feel it and hear it in the music.”

“For a long time, I wasn’t showing much of myself,” she tells the mag for its fall cover issue. “In the beginning, I was a little bit more shy, but through everything, I’ve gotten way more comfortable with people knowing everything they want to know about me.”

Tyla started her new musical chapter with WWP, released in July. She says she “never had a clear direction when I started” and went into it with “the intention of it being way more personal and true to how I think, how I feel, the type of music I want to make, and the way I want to sound.”

But with her upcoming single, “Chanel,” her hope is to make music that simply has replay value.

“I like to create music that makes me feel. [With] rap songs, the way people speak about luxury, being spoiled—that music is fun to me to listen to and dance to with my girls. So I want that feeling for my Tygers,” Tyla says in the interview. “I feel like there are a lot of people that can connect to it, because I’m 23, I’m going through life, and I’m experiencing things that a lot of people can relate to.”

It took him four years to achieve it, but Benson Boone‘s dream has come true: He sold out New York’s iconic Madison Square Garden on Sept. 5.

On Instagram on Sunday night, Benson reflected on his achievement.  “4 years and 174 days ago I made a goal with my best friend that I was going to sell out and play Madison Square Garden,” he wrote. “I was absolutely speechless standing on that stage with thousands of people in front of me screaming and crying.”

“Thank you for this moment, thank you for this career, and thank you for your love and support. You just made my dreams truly come to life,” he continued. “I’m still trying to fully comprehend this night, and a part of me thinks I never will. All I can say is thank you.”

“I have such a deep love for my fans and I hope you can feel that when I come on stage every night,” he concluded. “See you next time New York, that was unforgettable.”

Benson is currently on his American Heart tour, in support of his album of the same name, and he’s having a great time.  He wrote last month, “I could live on tour.”

The “Mystical Magical” singer performs in Nashville Monday night.

The charts’ best friend: Sabrina Carpenter debuts at #1 in the US and UK
Sabrina Carpenter, ‘Man’s Best Friend’ (Island Records)

Looks like the #1 spot is Sabrina Carpenter‘s best friend: Her new album has debuted on top the Billboard 200, just as her previous album, Short N’ Sweet, did in September 2024.

Man’s Best Friend, featuring Sabrina’s #1 hit “Manchild,” sold 366,000 units to grab the top spot. That’s the biggest sales week for an album by a woman in 2025. The album also scored this year’s biggest streaming week for an album by a woman.

More impressively, Man’s Best Friend is the first album by a woman to hit #1 on the Billboard 200 in five months. The last one to hold that spot was Ariana Grande‘s Eternal Sunshine, back in April. That’s the longest drought between female chart-topping albums in three years.

On Instagram, Sabrina wrote to her fans, “The way you are listening and holding this album has exceeded anything i thought to be imaginable. I love you all so much. Thank you for listening.”

Man’s Best Friend also debuted at #1 on the U.K. chart with first-week sales of 85,500 units. That gives her the year’s biggest opening week for a non-U.K. artist  Plus, Short N’ Sweet is #8 on the U.K. chart, while her 2023 album, emails i can’t send, is at #21.

Plus, Sabrina won three MTV VMAs on Sunday night, including best pop artist and album of the year for Short N’ Sweet.
