While Teyana Taylor has been known for years for her singing, producing and fashion sense, acting is more of a recent skill that she is “really proud of.” Speaking to Marie Claire, she says the pride comes from pushing through despite the skeptics and naysayers.

“When I was taking that risk and nobody else believed that I would make these things happen if I took that risk, that’s one thing that I get to sit here today and say, ‘I’m proud of that…,'” she says. “I said I would do it and not everybody believed that.”

She recalls her thought process after receiving the script for A Thousand and One following her retirement from music and while dealing with postpartum depression.

“I had a plan and I had a point to prove. And I noticed, every single time I trust God and I continue to be a prayer warrior and I continue to lift whatever weight is holding me down, He shows His favor,” Teyana says in the interview.

She says being a mother to two children also influenced her decision to take on the role. “Being a mom of one, I wasn’t playing. Now being a mom of two, I’m really not playing,” Teyana says. “I’ve got these two beautiful, pure, loving souls that love me for me that I’ve got to live for. So there were no games. Motherhood was the wake-up.”

Teyana is in the upcoming films 72 Hours, All’s Fair and One Battle After Another, which also stars Regina Hall.

“It’s always a joy and a pleasure to work with Regina,” she said. “She’s helped me through a lot, and I appreciate and love her so much.”

One Battle After Another drops on Sept. 26.

When Luke Combs said he was “Back in the Saddle,” he wasn’t kidding. His new single broke into the top 10 on Billboard‘s Country Airplay chart in only six weeks, a relatively short time.

The song also becomes Luke’s 24th top-10 hit of his career, in a string that dates back to 2017’s “Hurricane.” Most recently, he’s duetted with Bailey Zimmerman on “Backup Plan” and Post Malone on “Guy for That.” His last solo single was “Ain’t No Love in Oklahoma,” which hit #1 last fall.

“Back in the Saddle” is the first taste of Luke’s upcoming sixth studio album, the follow-up to 2024’s Fathers & Sons. He hasn’t revealed when fans can expect its arrival.

Chance the Rapper shares how ‘The Big Day’ reception affected his confidence

Chance the Rapper‘s latest album, Star Line, arrived roughly six years after his project The Big Day, and he says that delay between projects was because he was lacking confidence. During a conversation with Cam Newton, he said he didn’t take well to fans’ negative reactions to the 2019 album.

“You want people to love your music. A little while after I dropped, I started to feel this intense criticism — really only on the internet. And it took me a long time to recognize that part, but I felt it so intently that — and it was such a first-time feeling — that I … second-guessed myself for a second,” Chance explained, noting he eventually decided to “pull back a little bit in terms of … my creative output.”

He credited his exploration of creativity “in a different lane” for helping him get out of the funk.

“I started working with cameras, I started learning film and learning cinematography,” he said, “basically putting myself through a fake film school.”

He noted this led to the concept and creation of his “The Heart and the Tongue” music video. Though he expected praise for the video itself, Chance said he was actually applauded for his lyrics.

“Once I made that song and that video and put it out to be like, ‘Look at how good this video was,’ everybody was like, ‘No, look at how good them raps is, n****. Keep rapping, n****,'” he said. “And I had to keep rapping and keep making videos.”

Star Line is now available on streaming services.

MTV VMA producer reveals who he *really* wanted on Sunday night’s show — and no, it’s not Taylor

While the MTV VMA telecast on Sunday was pretty star-studded, with acts like Sabrina Carpenter, Lady Gaga and Mariah Carey performing, the show’s producer revealed which stars he tried and failed to book on the show.

Speaking to Rolling Stone, producer Van Toffler said there were “undoubtedly, absolutely” artists that he wanted on the show, but he just couldn’t swing. When asked if Justin Bieber or Taylor Swift were among them, Toffler said that Justin, as well as Beyoncé and Miley Cyrus, were three artists he wished he’d landed.

Toffler said he didn’t even try to get Swift because she’s “not in cycle” — which is industry speak for actively promoting an album.

“She’s done so many MTV awards when she is in cycle. It just didn’t feel right,” he said. “Some people are recording or out of cycle. You pull together the best show you can, and the best of the year.”

However, he did want to have a certain superstar collaboration.

“I wanted to have Harry Styles and Stevie Nicks perform together,” Toffler said. “So, you know, you shoot for the moon.”

Harry and Stevie have performed together several times, both in concert and at industry events like the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
