The View came back for season 29 this week, and with its return came a brand-new bunch of hot topics.

Many pop culture moments happened over the show’s summer hiatus, but there was one in particular that swiftly took the world by storm — and had hosts Alyssa Farah Griffin and Sara Haines wishing they could talk about it on air. It was, of course, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce‘s engagement.

“I was mad Taylor and Travis was not topic #1, but there is time. There is more, more days in this week to cover the important news of today,” Griffin told ABC Audio. “But listen, it’s so great to be back and 29 seasons is incredible.”

Haines said she looked at Swift and Kelce’s engagement photos “over and over again, just thinking, ‘Oh my gosh!'”

“My daughter loves listening to her, so as she listened to, ‘Romeo, take me…’ on repeat, I was like, ‘Oh, my God, this happened!’ Just sweet. Yeah, it’s a unifying moment,” Haines said.

Griffin says the celebrity engagement is exciting, especially because she is around the same age as Swift.

“You feel like you’ve grown up with her,” Griffin said. “I feel like people feel so invested in her life, so it’s like, yes, [in] this next phase people just want great things for her.”

The cohost said that after she watched the New Heights podcast episode Swift filmed with her fiancé and his brother, Jason Kelce, she saw that “these are two peas in a pod.”

“You just see why it works so well,” Griffin said. “I’m just rooting for the gym teacher and the English teacher to have a lovely marriage together and our royal wedding that we all want to watch.”

Taylor Swift is offering a special incentive to preorder her new album, The Life of a Showgirl, on iTunes.

If you do, you’ll get to watch something called “A Look Behind the Curtain” on release day. It’s not clear what it is, only that it’s some sort of visual content.

Taylor has already given fans multiple reasons to preorder physical copies of the album: She’s offered limited-edition vinyl variants with different cover art, unique poems and posters.

In other Taylor news, it turns out that the CW series The Vampire Diaries could have had a Taylor cameo, but the show’s co-creator and showrunner, Julie Plec, decided against it.

According to People, in the new book I Was Feeling Epic: An Oral History of The Vampire Diaries, Plec says, “The CW did ask us if we wanted to do a Taylor Swift cameo, and we said no.” She said it didn’t feel appropriate for the world building they were doing in the show’s first season, which aired in 2009.

“This isn’t 7th Heaven where Taylor can show up and do a free concert at the high school and make it feel somehow real,” she explained of the supernatural teen drama. “It will take us all out of it, it will take this very sort of timeless little community and make it feel too contemporary.”

In 2009, Taylor was still straddling the line between pop and country with hits like “You Belong With Me.”

Actor who accused Tyler Perry of sexual assault speaks out in 1st on-camera interview since filing lawsuit
Linsey Davis and Derek Dixon discuss his allegations against Tyler Perry in an interview for ABC News Live Prime. Heidi Gutman/ABC.

Actor Derek Dixon spoke out Tuesday in his first television interview since filing a lawsuit against Tyler Perry, accusing him of sexual harassment and assault.

Dixon sat down with ABC News Live anchor Linsey Davis to discuss his allegedly complicated history with the media mogul, saying he did not “want to stay silent about it anymore.”

Dixon says he met Perry at a studio opening party in 2019 while he was working at an events company. According to Dixon, Perry asked him if he was an actor, gave him his number and said “we’ll talk about this.”

In early 2020, Dixon landed the role of Dale in Perry’s BET series The Oval. According to the civil complaint, when Dixon was working on the show, Perry began sending text messages to him, with some being sexual in nature.

“One of them says, ‘What’s it going to take for you to have guiltless sex? Have y’all found that in therapy yet? I would hope that you would let someone hold and make love to you,'” Dixon said.

Dixon claims that in January 2020 Perry’s physical behavior started resembling the tone of his text messages, with Dixon saying one alleged incident occurred when he was having drinks at the mogul’s guest house.

Instead of driving home that night, Dixon said Perry told him to stay in the guest quarters, where he allegedly climbed into Dixon’s bed and started rubbing his leg, causing Dixon to jump out of the bed.

“I thought after that instance, it was pretty clear that I was not interested in that type of a relationship,” Dixon told ABC News.

Then, at the end of the second season of The Oval, Dixon’s character was shot four times in the chest, which he said made him realize “if I don’t make him happy, I could stay dead on the show.”

The actor said he ended communication with Perry in the spring of 2024 and decided to leave The Oval in September 2024. He also said Losing It, a show he had been writing that the mogul owns the rights to, was never developed beyond the pilot.

Then in January, Dixon filed a complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, a federal agency responsible for protecting workers from discrimination.

Dixon said he came up with the amount of $260 million in damages for his subsequent lawsuit for two reasons: “Part of that number is my lost job, my lost income, the loss of a show. The other part of that is a deterrent for how do you stop a billionaire who won’t stop themselves from doing this.”

Dixon said he hopes Perry takes “accountability for what happened” and learns to “not treat your employees this way and to never use someone’s dream to coerce them into a relationship that’s not professional.”

When asked about justice, Dixon said it would look like he “made a change and that something like this won’t happen to another actor that works for him or another actor in the industry.”

Sabrina Carpenter took to Instagram on Wednesday to thank fans for sending her new album, Man’s Best Friend, straight to #1 on the Billboard 200.

“you guys have made Man’s Best Friend my second #1 album and my highest debut ever. that is very surreal!!!” she wrote, alongside a collection of behind-the-scenes photos and video of the making of the LP.

“i feel so lucky to have such beautiful love and support all around me. making this album with Jack [Antonoff], Amy [Allen] and John [Ryan] was one of the most pure wholesome electric times in my life and to see the way you are all resonating with it just makes me feel like the luckiest girl in the world,” she continued.

“Thank you for listening (top to bottom!!!) and thank you for bringing this album into your lives and having such a damn good time with it, I’m having fun too :’),” she concluded. “i love you i love you i love you.”

On her Instagram Story, Sabrina also marked the anniversary of the release of her single “Skinny Dipping,” which came out Sept. 9, 2021 — several years before she became a global pop superstar. “4 years since skinny dipping making me emotional!” she noted, along with a still from the song’s video.

In addition, Sabrina reposted TikToks from fellow musicians who are having fun with some of the songs on the new album: Joe Jonas made one set to her song “Nobody’s Son,” while the group HAIM used “House Tour” for a video set on their tour bus. Alex Warren‘s wife, Kouvr, used “When Did You Get Hot?” to show her and Alex’s glow-up for the MTV VMAs.
