On This Day, Sept. 22, 1985 …

Forty years ago, Willie NelsonNeil Young and John Mellencamp headlined the first-ever Farm Aid concert in Champaign, Illinois.

The trio organized the all-star event to raise money to help family farmers in the United States. They were inspired by comments Bob Dylan made during the Live Aid concerts, in which he said he hoped some of the money could go to help struggling farmers.

Dylan also performed at the first Farm Aid, as did Billy JoelTom PettyB.B. KingLoretta Lynn, Roy Orbison and others.

The first concert raised over $9 million.

Since then, Farm Aid has held concerts almost every year and has raised nearly $80 million to help American farmers.

The 40th anniversary edition took place Saturday in Minneapolis, with Nelson, Young and Mellencamp once again headlining, along with Dylan, Margo Price and Dave Matthews with Tim Reynolds

Back in July, Elton John told “Messy” singer Lola Young that he’d “bet his house” that her song “d£aler” would be a #1 hit. Well, it’s not, so Elton’s paying up.

Lola has posted a video on Instagram of her and Elton, in which he reiterated that he’d told her that if the song wasn’t #1, he’d give her the keys to his house. “I know, I’ve been waiting,” Lola said cheekily.

He explained that the song is “not there yet, but it better hurry up.”  He then added, “In the meantime, I’m giving you the keys to my house, but can we stay [over] the odd night?”

“No, sorry,” Lola responded. “It’s mine now.”

“Me and my big mouth,” added Elton, before both of them cracked up.

In the caption, Lola wrote, “I’m sure this is the last time he’ll make a bet… Thanks @eltonjohn, love ya x.” Elton added in the comments, “Thanks for letting us sleep over every now and then, @lolayounggg!”

Hugh Jackman welcomed two very special guests during his From New York, With Love concert at Radio City Music Hall.

On Saturday, the actor brought Pink and her 14-year-old daughter, Willow Sage Hart, onstage for a couple of songs, including The Greatest Showman favorite “A Million Dreams.”

Jackman later shared the clips from the night on Instagram, captioning it, “Making their @radiocitymusichall debut!!! @pink #willowhart #fromnewyorkwithlove.”

The trio also teamed up for Pink’s 2006 hit “Who Knew,” with Willow, wearing a red ballgown, showcasing her vocals as she led the chorus.

Pink also shared a video of their performance on Instagram, where fans flooded the comments with praise for Willow’s standout vocals.

Willow and Pink have a history with “A Million Dreams.” They both recorded it for the The Greatest Showman Reimagined album, which featured musicians of various genres, including Kelly Clarkson, PentatonixMissy Elliott and Zac Brown Band, putting their spin on songs from the film.

Before their big debut at Radio City Music Hall, Willow admitted she was feeling nervous.

In a behind-the-scenes clip on Pink’s Instagram Story, the singer asked her teenage daughter if she was scared, to which Willow replied, “So scared. It’s Radio City!”  Her mom reassured her, “Aw, you’re going to do so good.”

Jackman’s From New York, With Love concert series wraps up Oct. 4.

Charles Kelley (Harper Smith)

Charles Kelley and his wife, Cassie Kelley, welcomed their second child, son Archer Lancaster Kelley, on Sept. 16. He joins big brother Ward Kelley, who’s 9. The “Can’t Lose You” singer told ABC Audio that because he and Cassie have been parents for almost a decade, they’re prepared for at least one aspect of having a baby in the house again.

“The hardest thing with Ward was, you know, we were so used to sleeping in till, like, 9, even 10 [a.m.],” Charles explained. “But now we’re kind of used to functioning on a little less sleep. So I feel like that’s going to be easier. But we also, you know, [are] not quite as energetic and agile as we were 10 years ago.”

Of course, Charles isn’t the only member of Lady A who has a new little one: Hillary Scott welcomed a new baby in July. While Lady A has a holiday tour coming up in December and Charles has a few solo shows, he says overall he and the group are lucky they’re able to take time off to be with their new additions.

“I just think I’m in such a settled place, you know, and even as a band, you know, we’re able to like prioritize family so much more and be like, ‘Hey, we’re not going to go on the road too much right now,'” says Charles.

“And so the fact that I’ll actually have a couple of months to kind of breathe and just enjoy this baby before we start the Christmas tour is going to be great,” he adds.

Sarah Reeves is on ‘Cloud Nine’ over the success of her dance-pop single

Sarah Reeves, best known for her 2024 empowerment anthem “More Than Enough,” has her biggest pop hit yet with “Cloud Nine.” Ironically, Sarah originally wrote the song so she could offer it to another artist, but was then convinced it could be a success for her.

“It wasn’t even on my radar for my album. I was kind of writing it for just to pitch [to someone else] for a dance cut,” Sarah tells ABC Audio. “But my husband was actually the one that heard it. He’s like, ‘This is your hit, Sarah, I’m telling you.'” Her husband then told a member of Sarah’s team about the track, who agreed and told her, “This is a smash.”

“So I’m like, ‘O.K., then let’s release it!'” she says. “So yeah, it’s definitely a surprise to me.”

Sarah says she wrote “Cloud Nine” after one of her collaborators sent her a dance track so she could write lyrics and a melody for it. “I felt like it was so easy to write and it fit my voice and I loved it,” Sarah says. She also liked that the song had kind of the vibe of one of her influences, Dua Lipa.

“So it made sense for it to be my song instead of pitch it to somebody else. I’m like, ‘Why not?” she says with a laughs.

Much of Sarah’s previous work is comprised of Christian pop and what she calls “message-driven” songs, like “More Than Enough” and “Get Back Your Fight.” But she likes the fact “Cloud Nine” is the opposite of that.

She notes, “I’m not overthinking anything. It’s fun. It’s joyful. It’s lighthearted. And I think it’s needed throughout my music.”

On Friday, Sarah released two new songs — “Run Away” and “Freedom” — and she’s working on a full-length album.

The 25th anniversary of Outkast‘s groundbreaking album Stankonia is approaching. In honor of the special milestone, the group has announced a few celebratory activations.

First up is the release of new limited edition merch, taking place Oct. 2, as part of a partnership with Ceremony of Roses. Two limited-edition t-shirts will be available for purchase as well as a black hoodie, corduroy cap, an alternate CD cover designed by André 3000 and more.

Outkast will then follow with the Oct. 29 launch of the “So Fresh, So Green” initiative in their hometown of Atlanta, named after their Stankonia single “So Fresh, So Clean.” They have teamed with local nonprofit Live Thrive for a community recycling drive at the Headland Delowe shopping center, as well as Trees Atlanta, which will plant 25 trees in the community for every year the album has been out. The first 100 people to make it to the event will receive a limited-edition Outkast t-shirt.

On the actual release date of the album, Oct. 31, Outkast will drop an expanded three-LP vinyl of Stankonia pressed on purple marble. It features new cover art designed by Three Stacks, unreleased images from when the duo was originally promoting the album and three bonus tracks: “Sole Sunday” featuring Goodie Mob, two remixes of “B.O.B.” by Cutmaster Swiff and the Beat Bullies, and “Speed Ballin,” which was never released digitally.

The vinyl is now available for preorder, as are the standard two-LP, standard CD and some special fan packs.

While Stankonia‘s 25th anniversary is around the corner, Outkast has another reason to celebrate: They’ll be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The ceremony takes place Nov. 8, the same day they will drop a limited-edition reversible bomber jacket.
