On This Day, Oct. 1, 1965…

Bob Dylan headlined Carnegie Hall in New York City backed by the five musicians who would eventually find fame as The Band.

The group, previously known as The Hawks, was made up of guitarist Robbie Robertson, organist Garth Hudson, bassist Rick Danko, pianist Richard Manual and drummer Levon Helm.

The musicians went on to back up Dylan on his historic 1966 electric tour, which drew boos and abuse worldwide from fans who accused him of abandoning folk music.

The Band would go on to release their iconic debut album Music From Big Pink in 1968. Their farewell concert on Nov. 25, 1976, was filmed for the critically acclaimed concert movie The Last Waltz, directed by Martin Scorsese.

The Band was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1994.

Tyler Hubbard’s ‘diving in’ to discover what’s next

Tyler Hubbard (CBS)

Tyler Hubbard hit the top of the country chart with “Park” in August and hasn’t put out a new radio single from his second album, Strong, since.

The reason? It seems the former Florida Georgia Line hitmaker is hard at work on his next solo project.

“I wanna get music out quick, and I wanna get it turned around, but a lot of times it requires patience,” he explains. “It requires maybe redoing some things and just making sure it’s right. So I’ve been really kinda diving in lately with a fine-toothed comb and trying to figure out what’s the next album gonna sound like? What’s it gonna reflect, how are we gonna move forward, how are we gonna keep this thing rolling?”

Since pursuing a solo career, Tyler’s set the bar high, making it to #1 with every radio single he’s released, including “5 Foot 9,” “Dancin’ in the Country” and “Back Then Right Now.”

“It’s exciting, but it is challenging at times, you know, to kinda continue to evolve, continue to shift what I’m doing,” he says. “I really don’t like to make the same album twice, even sonically, so I’m really trying to push myself with this new music and see where it goes.”

In the meantime, Tyler has collaborated with newcomer Graham Barham on the title track of his EP, “Whiskey Rain.”

The Grateful Dead have teamed with global color authority Pantone to create two new colors inspired by their iconography.

The colors, Grateful Red and Stealie Blue, were created using scans of an original pressing of the band’s 1973 Bear’s Choice live album. It was also the first time The Dead used their iconic Stealie aka Steal Your Face skull and lightning bolt logo.

Both colors, which have been used throughout The Dead’s six-decade career, are part of a new merch collection that includes Grateful Red and Stealie Blue paint can-dles, as well as T-shirts, hoodies, mugs and more.

“The Grateful Dead’s visual iconography is unmatched in the music world,” David Lemieux, Grateful Dead legacy manager and archivist, says. “These shades of red and blue are uniquely and identifiably Grateful Dead icons on their own. To now have two Pantone colors immortalizing these shades of red and blue as the official colors of the Grateful Dead is a huge honor.”

“Just like the music of the iconic Grateful Dead, color can evoke emotions and feelings that can engulf you into a different world,” Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute, adds. “Memorializing and standardizing the iconic colors that showcase the band’s originality and ensuring their legacy lives on through a visual language, is both meaningful and inspiring and we are proud to be a part of it.”

The Grateful Dead Pantone merch line is available now.

Toni Braxton is set to star in the film adaptations of her songs “He Wasn’t Man Enough” and “Breathe Again.” According to Deadline, the films will premiere on Lifetime as part of her partnership with the network.

He Wasn’t Man Enough will arrive first; it comes out Nov. 22 as part of Lifetime’s romance movie slate for the month. The film features her as bestselling author Mel Montgomery, who joins forces with estranged friend Monica (Essence Atkins) after learning her boyfriend, Richard (Thomas Cadrot), had proposed to her. Yvette Nicole Brown also stars in the movie.

Breathe Again will then debut in 2026, following the budding friendships of three reality dating show contestants who bond after experiencing heartbreak under the spotlight. They move from Los Angeles to Seattle and, as a group, “navigate fresh starts, second chances, and the messy, hilarious realities of dating, friendship, and family,” according to Deadline. Toni stars in the film alongside Atkins and Cree Summers.

Breathe Again is inspired by Toni’s 1993 song of the same name, which peaked at #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and won the best female R&B vocal performance Grammy in 1995.

He Wasn’t Man Enough was named after the 2000 hit, released as a single for her album The Heat. It topped the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart and peaked at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100. Both songs are certified Gold.

Tate McRae is on the cover of the TIME100 Next issue, and as part of the package she’s shared her memories of her most popular viral videos — including the one that her parents absolutely hated, but led to her getting a record deal.

The video in question is Create With Tate: One Day, her first-ever YouTube video, which she posted in 2017 when she was 13. It shows Tate sitting at a keyboard, singing an original song called “one day.”  “Oh my God,” cringes Tate while watching it.

She laughs, “My parents were sitting maybe like 5 feet away from me, on the couch. I wrote this [song] in, like, 20 minutes. And my parents were like, ‘This is god-awful. Please don’t put this on the internet.’ And I did.”

“To them, it was like, ‘What is this?'” she adds. “I was playing my dinky little piano, it was a love story … it was a very 13-year-old melodramatic thing that was happening.”

But, she notes, “It went, like, kinda viral and it blew up, and that’s how I got signed, was off that first video that I ever posted. When I started this YouTube channel and saw how it did so fast, that was one of the first times I ever felt like I had control over something.”

“All I had to do was sit down Thursday night, write a song and post it on Friday,” she adds. “And it turned into this little challenge for me, of being like, ‘If I could do this every week and see what happens, this could be really exciting.’ And it was.”

Tate also reminisces about her 2023 Billboard Music Awards performance of “Greedy,” and her videos for “Revolving Door” and “You Broke Me First.”

Lainey Wilson‘s the only country artist chosen to be on the 2025 TIME100 Next list.

The magazine’s annual rundown honors “100 emerging leaders from around the world,” like actor Jonathan Bailey, pop star Tate McRae, and Spring Health co-founder and CEO April Koh, who each appear on their own covers of the issue.

TIME chose Miranda Lambert to pay tribute to Lainey.

“She is such a light. She’s funny and she’s fun, and she has a spirit about her that brings joy to any room she walks in,” Miranda says. “Knowing her off the stage and on, I feel like I’m looking at the same person all the time. That’s pretty rare. What she does doesn’t define her. Who she is defines her, and that’s real authenticity.”

Having recently collaborated with Lainey on “Trailblazer,” Miranda knows what Lainey’s priorities are.

“She lives and breathes songs, and you can see that passion in her eyes; it’s all about the music for her, and she lets the music lead,” Miranda adds. “She’s a legend already. … I’m really proud of how she represents the lifestyle we both love and the music we both love. She’s out of the gate going 100 miles an hour.”
