Florida man is upset he received two replicas of Joe Jonas’ hands in the mail

Kevin Mazur/Getty Images

Back in May, Joe Jonas teamed up with the travel site Expedia to give away some unusual promotional items: 550 3-D printed, limited-edition autographed replicas of his hand.  But now one man in Florida is annoyed that he’s received two of Joe’s hands in the mail — and he didn’t even enter the contest to win them.

The Washington Post reports that the man,  56-year-old retiree Sean O’Farrell, had no idea what the hand was, until he did a Google search and found out about the giveaway.  The only problem is that he hadn’t logged into his Expedia account in five years, and he certainly hadn’t given the company his information in hopes of receiving a hand.

Sean shrugged it off and forgot about it — until he received yet another hand a few weeks later.

“I’m like, ‘You have got to be kidding me,'” he told The Post, the publication in which he first read about the contest.  In fact, he tweeted The Post after receiving the first hand and wrote, “Expedia keeps sending me Joe’s hands. Up to 2 so far. I’m 56, a dude, and haven’t done business with Expedia in 5 years. Any ideas?”

Expedia told The Post that starting in mid-June, it began shipping 550 of the hands to the U.S., U.K. and Canada, but only to those who’d entered their name, address, phone number and email address into a dedicated site.

Expedia thought maybe someone O’Farrell knows entered his info, but Sean said he’s asked everyone  and nobody has ‘fessed up.  For now, O’Farrell is keeping the hands in a closet, and he said he’d only sell them in order to give the money to charity.

“If I get a third one, I’m gonna lose my mind,” he declared.

“Peace and Love”: Ringo Starr turns 81 today; Peter Frampton reveals new collaboration with Ringo

Credit: Scott Robert Ritchie

Happy Birthday to Ringo Starr, who marks his 81st trip around the sun today.

As has become tradition, the legendary Beatles drummer is asking fans across the world to celebrate his big day by pausing at noon local time, wherever they are, and saying his catchphrase “peace and love,” or by sharing the #peaceandlove hashtag on social media.

Unfortunately, Ringo has decided not to have a public celebration this year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, although virtual parties have been scheduled in many cities around the world. Visit Starr’s Facebook page for more details.

As previously reported, Ringo posted a video message on his YouTube channel in which he encouraged people to take part in the “peace and love” festivities today.

“[Y]ou can post it, you can say it, you can even think it, but it’d be cool if you go ‘peace and love’ at noon on my birthday,” Starr declared. “So let’s spread peace and love around the world on my birthday. Come on, everybody!”

In other news, Peter Frampton has posted a couple of messages on his social media pages revealing that Starr has been working on a new EP to which the guitar whiz apparently is lending his talents.

In a Twitter message, Frampton posted a photo of him with Starr and songwriter/producer Linda Perry at Ringo’s home studio, along with a note that reads, “So great to be able to fly and see friends again. Lovely afternoon listening to Ringo’s great upcoming EP.”

Peter also posted a couple of photos on his Instagram page that show him playing guitar at Starr’s studio while goofing around with Ringo.

The new release apparently will be a follow-up to Starr’s Zoom In EP, which came out May.

New short doc profiling The Beatles’ relationship with Liverpool available for download and streaming now

Liverpool West Productions

The Beatles and Us, an award-winning short documentary about the relationship that the city of Liverpool, England, had and continues to have with its most famous native sons, The Beatles, is now available as a digital download and via streaming platforms.

The film offers a profile of Liverpool and looks at how its history, traditions and culture helped shaped the members of The Beatles. The movie also examines the band’s influence on the city, its music scene, tourism industry and more.

The Beatles and Us features interviews with various Liverpool residents reflecting on the Fab Four’s impact on the northern U.K. port city and recalling their experiences meeting or seeing the group’s members.

“I suppose I’m biased, given my family are from Liverpool, but I do think it’s a special city,” says the film’s director, Chris Purcell. “Quite different to anywhere else in the U.K., it’s a quirky, off-kilter kind of place that has its own singular character. Coming from a town like that gave The Beatles, who were already magically blessed with the right combination of talents, just the edge they needed to conquer all before them.”

The flick won the Best International Documentary prize at the Venice Shorts film festival, and was selected as a finalist at the New York International Film Awards.

Men at Work’s Colin Hay announces US solo summer tour; releasing new covers album in August

Credit: Paul Mobley

Like so many musicians, Men at Work frontman Colin Hay had his 2020 touring plans sidelined because of the COVID-19 pandemic, but the singer/songwriter has now unveiled a new series of U.S. solo concerts scheduled for late summer.

The trek is plotted out from an August 4 show in Hyannis, Massachusetts, through a September 11 performance at the Beachlife Festival in Redondo Beach, California.

Hay will be promoting a brand-new studio album on the tour, a 10-track collection of covers titled I Just Don’t Know What to Do with Myself that’s due out on August 6.

Colin was inspired to make the album during the COVID lockdown, after he recorded a version of the Gerry and the Pacemakers hit “Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Crying” following the death of that group’s lead singer, Gerry Marsden, in January 2021.

Hay’s frequent collaborator and producer Chad Fischer suggested Colin record more cover tunes, and Hay decided to make a full album of tunes he loved when he was younger.

I Just Don’t Know What to Do with Myself also features the title track, which was penned by Burt Bacharach and Hal David and was a big U.K. hit for Dusty Springfield in 1964, as well as songs by The Beatles, The Kinks, Faces, Blind Faith, Glen Campbell and Jimmy Cliff.

The album can be pre-ordered now, and is available on CD, vinyl and in various digital formats.

“I recorded an album of songs written by other people that have meant a lot to me ever since I was a young fellow,” Hay notes. “I can’t wait to play them for you on this upcoming jaunt across the land.”

Here’s the full I Just Don’t Know What to Do with Myself track list:

“I Just Don’t Know What to Do with Myself” (Dusty Springfield)
“Waterloo Sunset” (The Kinks)
“Wichita Lineman” (Glen Campbell)
“Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)” (The Beatles)
“Don’t Let the Sun Catch You Crying” (Gerry and the Pacemakers)
“Ooh La La” (Faces)
“Driving with the Brakes On” (Del Amitri)
“Across the Universe” (The Beatles)
“Can’t Find My Way Home” (Blind Faith)
“Many Rivers to Cross” (Jimmy Cliff)

Why Iggy Azalea decided to talk about Britney Spears: “I know her and love her”

Denise Truscello/Getty Images for Britney Spears

Last week, Iggy Azalea released a statement in support of Britney Spears, insisting that Britney was “not exaggerating and lying” when she detailed her “abusive” conservatorship in an LA court last month, and offering an eyewitness account of Britney’s father’s “controlling” behavior.  Now, Iggy’s explaining why she decided to speak up.

She tells People, “I know [Britney] and love her. She’s such an icon and inspiration and was so kind to me that if I could help her in any way that I can, then I want to do that.”

Iggy’s supportive statement detailed her experiences working with Britney when the two collaborated on the 2015 track “Pretty Girls” — during which time she says she “personally witnessed the same behavior Britney detailed in regards to her father.”

The Australian rapper says Britney was restricted from “even the most bizarre and trivial things,” and claims that Britney’s dad forced Iggy to sign an NDA moments before she was about to take the stage with Britney at the Billboard Music Awards.

Iggy explains to People, “I never said anything before because I really wanted to respect her privacy but after she spoke, I just thought if I were in her shoes, I would want my friends to back me up. I felt like, ‘You know what? Regardless of what people might think about it, I have to say something.'”

Iggy, who just released the new single “I Am the Strip Club,” added that she “would want someone to say something for me.”  She now believes that Britney’s situation with her conservatorship “has to change,” because “there are too many people now in her defense.”

Gwen & Blake’s wedding cake paid tribute to her parents, wedding playlist included their famous pals

Steve Granitz/WireImage

Even more details are now being reported about Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton‘s weekend wedding in Oklahoma.

According to E! Online, the couple’s lavish, five-tier white wedding cake deliberately looked old-fashioned because it was based on Gwen’s parents’ wedding cake.   Lauren Kitchens, founder of Fancy Cakes by Lauren Kitchens, told E! News, “Her love of family is strong and this was her way of honoring them and their beginning as a new married couple on her big day as a newly married bride. Everything about the cake had sentimental value.”

The vanilla creme cake was filled with salted caramel, covered in vanilla buttercream and finished with a cake topper of a groom wearing a cowboy hat — even though Blake generally doesn’t — and a blonde-haired bride.  According to Kitchens, the highly detailed decoration is a kind of freehand piping that originated in England called “Lambeth cake design.”

“I bet Gwen and Blake have just made the Lambeth cake come back full force,” Kitchens noted.

Meanwhile, People magazine reports that while the wedding guests and party numbered just 40, Gwen and Blake’s celebrity pals were represented in the tunes they danced to.

According to People, the music for the reception was a playlist created by DJ Lucy Wrubel that featured hits by fellow Voice coach Kelly Clarkson, Maroon 5 — whose frontman Adam Levine is a former The Voice coach — plus Blake’s country star friends Carrie Underwood and Luke Bryan.
