Rush guitarist Alex Lifeson has formed a new band called Envy of None that will release its self-titled debut album on April 8.

Envy of None also features bassist Andy Curran of the veteran Canadian group Coney Hatch, guitarist/keyboardist Alfio Annibalini and singer-songwriter Maiah Wynne.

The 11-track collection offers up a wide sonic palette, with influences including alternative rock, synth rock and experimental rock mixed with melodic pop.

Lifeson has been working on the Envy of None material for several years, but he says the project really took off when Wynne got involved.

“Maiah became my muse,” Alex maintains. “She was able to bring this whole new ethereal thing through her sense of melody on tracks like ‘Liar’ and ‘Look Inside.’…I’ve never had that kind of inspiration working with another musician.”

The band has released “Liar” as an advance digital track, and a companion lyric video has premiered at the Kscope label’s YouTube channel.

The album ends with a song titled “Western Sunset,” which Alex wrote as a tribute to late Rush drummer Neil Peart.

“I visited Neil when he was ill,” says Lifeson. “I was on his balcony watching the sunset and found inspiration. There’s a finality about a sunset that kinda stayed with me throughout the whole process. It had meaning. It was the perfect mood to decompress after all these different textures…a nice way to close the book.”

The album is available for pre-order now, and will be issued digitally, on CD, on LP — in black vinyl and colored-vinyl variants — and as a deluxe limited-edition package. The latter collection features a blue-vinyl LP, a two-CD set offering five bonus tracks, and a 28-page booklet.

Here’s the full Envy of None track list:

“Never Said I Love You”
“Shadow”
“Look Inside”
“Liar”
“Spy House”
“Dog’s Life”
“Kabul Blues”
“Old Strings”
“Dumb”
“Enemy”
“Western Sunset”

Five Seconds of Summer singer Michael Clifford is a married man, but he reveals the ceremony took place over a year ago!

The Australian artist and his longtime love Crystal Leigh told People they tied the knot on January 11, 2021 in a secret ceremony.  Michael proposed in 2019 and the two had originally planned to throw a big wedding in Bali — but the pandemic forced them to change plans.

The couple didn’t want to move their date and instead opted for a “secret save the date gathering” by signing the official papers before a small crowd of those closest to them.  Fellow 5SOS members Luke HemmingsCalum Hood and Ashton Irwin were in attendance.

“We were most excited to be near our friends all together for the first time in a while due to COVID,” they shared.  “To be officially married, even in secret, was so special for us, too.”

Guests dined at a long dinner table and Michael admits the menu was a little out there because it honored both his Australian and Crystal’s Southern roots. “It was definitely a random assortment of meat pies and vegan fried chicken. Turns out they go together pretty nicely,” he joked.

A bigger wedding ceremony — and their eventual honeymoon in Bali — will happen after the pandemic blows over, the couple assured.  Crystal added that ceremony will feature “all of the traditional special wedding moments” because they’re “both only children, so we want to make sure all of our parents get to experience every aspect of our wedding since they only get to do it once! No pressure.”

To make the night even more special, Michael reveals he “may or may not have written Crystal a song that I’m planning on playing her at our real wedding.”

Bastille‘s “Pompeii” is the latest song to get caught up in a viral TikTok trend.

Late last year, a musician named William Li uploaded a mash-up of Bastille’s breakout single with a clip of comedian Steven He yelling the phrase “Emotional Damage,” which originally came from one of He’s comedy videos. The popular clip has now reached the eyes and ears of frontman Dan Smith, who shared his own reaction video.

In his clip, Smith watches Li’s TikTok at first with confusion and bewilderment before starting to jam along himself until he’s mouthing along to “Emotional Damage” by the end.

Along with trending on TikTok, Bastille is gearing up to release a new album called Give Me the Future, dropping February 4. It includes the singles “Distorted Light Beam” and “No Bad Days.”

Mariah Carey is extending the holiday season thanks to her all-new children’s book, The Christmas Princess.  The singer unveiled the adorable cover art on Wednesday and provided a small synopsis of what the story entails.

The Christmas Princess is a fairytale for holiday lovers of all ages! Little Mariah represents my inner child believing in her own vision, she represents all children, especially those who feel like outsiders or ‘others’, striving to believe in themselves,” the hitmaker explained. “It was empowering to transform my childhood turmoil into a modern classic fairytale full of wonder and boundless hope.”

The story follows a young Mariah, “who doesn’t have much and doesn’t want a lot” and feels “outcast and alone,” according to the book description, so she embarks on a journey that lets her discover “the healing power of her voice to spread the spirit of Christmas at home and all around the world.”

The singer spoke to People about the significance of her upcoming book, saying she was inspired to write something new because she wanted to lift her and other people’s spirits.

“So many of us have been drowning in ‘bleakocity’ for the last year and half, why not create an enchanted land to escape to?,” she remarked. “The Christmas Princess springs from the same need as my memoir The Meaning of Mariah Carey — to emancipate the little girl in me.”

This is Mariah’s first children’s book to feature an original story, following 2015’s All I Want for Christmas Is You, which transformed her 1994 hit into a playful picture book that encouraged children to sing along.

The Christmas Princess hits shelves October 25, 2022.

Is Snoop Dogg planning to get into the hot dog business?

Snoop Dogg is apparently planning to launch his own line of hot dogs — called “Snoop Doggs.”

This past December, Snoop’s attorneys applied to the United States Patent and Trademark Office for a federal trademark registration on the term “Snoop Doggs,” stating that he plans to use it to sell hot dogs, various types of sausage and other products, according to Billboard.

Attorneys for the 50-year-old rapper — who swore during a 2016 appearance on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! that he would “never eating a mother f****** hot dog!” — made the filing as a so-called intent-to-use application. That means Snoop hasn’t launched a brand yet, but has a serious intent to do so and wants to lock down the name ahead of time.

Of course, if history is any indication, this whole “Snoop Doggs” idea may not amount to anything. his 2011 “Snoop Scoops” ice cream brand idea never came to fruition.

Britney Spears’ sister Jamie Lynn speaks out on ‘GMA’: “I’ve always been my sister’s biggest supporter”

Britney Spears’ sister Jamie Lynn speaks out on ‘GMA’: “I’ve always been my sister’s biggest supporter”
ABC News

In an interview on ABC’s Good Morning America, Britney Spears‘ sister Jamie Lynn Spears insists that contrary to what Britney has implied, she did, in fact, support the superstar singer during her conservatorship, which Britney called “abusive.”

“I’ve always been my sister’s biggest supporter,” Jamie Lynn told ABC News’ Juju Chang in an interview to promote her memoir Things I Should Have Said. “So when she needed help, I set up ways to do so. Went out of my way to make sure that she had the contacts she needed to possibly go ahead and end this conservatorship and just end this all for our family. If it’s going to cause this much discord, why continue it?”

“Everyone has a voice, and it should be heard,” she continued, adding that she even spoke to her sister’s previous legal team and it “did not end well” for her. Jamie Lynn said she took the steps to help, but it was up to Britney to “walk through the door.”

In her book, out January 18, Jamie Lynn describes Britney’s behavior before the conservatorship as “erratic,” “paranoid” and “spiraling.”  And now? Jamie Lynn says “can’t really speak to anyone else’s state of mind.”

Britney’s conservatorship was put in place in 2008 and ended this past November, which Jamie Lynn says she was “happy” about. However, she told Chang, “When it was put into place, I was 17 years old. I was about to have a baby, so I didn’t understand what was happening. Nor was I focused on that. I was focused on the fact that I was a 17-year-old about to have a baby. I understand just as little about it then as I do now.”

And while Britney currently seems to have issues with Jamie Lynn and the rest of her family, Jamie Lynn told Chang, “That love is still there. 100%. I love my sister.”

She added, “I’ve only ever loved and supported her and done what’s right by her, and she knows that, so I don’t know why we’re in this position right now.”

Meanwhile, Britney is hinting she may write a memoir of her own. On Instagram, she posted a photo of an old-fashioned typewriter and captioned it, “Shall I start from THE BEGINNING???”

Young Dolph murder suspects in police custody after manhunt

Two men have been taken into police custody in connection with the November shooting death of rapper Young Dolph in Memphis, Tennessee.

Justin Johnson, 23, was captured on Tuesday afternoon, the U.S. Marshals Service said, nearly a week after law enforcement announced he was wanted by police in connection with a number of alleged charges, including first-degree murder, criminal attempted first-degree murder and property theft.

A second suspect was indicted by a grand jury on Tuesday on first-degree murder charges in the shooting death of the Memphis rapper, said Shelby County District Attorney General Amy Weirich.

Cornelius Smith, 32, was indicted on additional charges of attempted first-degree murder, convicted felon in possession of a firearm, employment of a firearm in the commission of a dangerous felony and property theft. He is being held without bond.

Young Dolph’s brother, who was with the rapper when he was killed, is the victim in the attempted murder count.

Smith was arrested on Dec. 9 in Southaven on an auto-theft warrant involving the white Mercedes Benz vehicle that was used in the killing of Young Dolph, the U.S. Marshals Service said. The vehicle was taken in a carjacking on Nov. 10 at a gas station and was found on Nov. 20 — three days after the murder — behind a home in Orange Mound, where a tipster said it was abandoned.

Young Dolph, whose given name was Adolph Robert Thornton Jr., was shot and killed in Memphis on Nov. 17 while visiting Makeda’s Homemade Butter Cookies, a bakery in South Memphis that the rapper was known to frequent. He was 36.
