Kelly Clarkson’s holiday project, When Christmas Comes Around, arrived on Friday, and the track list boasts some impressive collaborators. Among them is Chris Stapleton, who lends his voice to one particularly soulful song, “Glow.”

Kelly and Chris trade verses on the song, a love ballad about the one special person who’s missing from an otherwise perfect Christmas.

“Nothin’ has changed, I still wish you could be / Wrapped up in my arms, spendin’ Christmas with me,” the pair harmonize in the chorus. “When it gets cold is when I notice the most / With all the lights on the trees, even Christmas can’t compete with your glow…”

This is the first time Kelly’s ever teamed with Chris, but the pop star’s no stranger to country collaborations in general. In fact, “Under the Mistletoe” — her duet with Brett Eldredge — is a bonus track on When Christmas Comes Around.

Kelly also snagged a number-one country hit back in 2011, thanks to her duet with Jason Aldean, “Don’t You Wanna Stay.”

‘The Velvet Underground’ is a documentary as unique as the band itself

It’s The Velvet Underground as you’ve never seen them before.  A new documentary from acclaimed indie-film director Todd Haynes about the hugely influential rock group debuts today on Apple TV+.

Haynes tells ABC Audio that the film, like the band itself, is different from other rock documentaries.

“This band…and the whole culture from which the band arose, is kind of an invitation to look at what this whole experimental attitude,” he explains. “And not just in terms of music making…but in the sort of the language that was being swapped from medium to medium.”

Titled simply The Velvet Underground, the documentary features new interviews with surviving members John Cale and Maureen Tucker, as well as other people associated with the band. There are also archival conversations with the late artist Andy Warhol, who managed and helped promote the group during its early years. What you won’t see in this film is the typical archival material, because it doesn’t exist.

“There is no live concert footage…no promotional record label material, there aren’t interviews of them at the time on film,” notes Haynes. “What you see is what’s in the film, which is films from Andy Warhol, where they were kind of part of an art project.”

The doc offers an inside look at the group and its classic lineup — the late Lou Reed on lead vocals and guitar, Cale on bass and viola, Tucker on drums and the late Sterling Morrison on lead guitar — as well as their life inside Warhol’s studio, The Factory.

“They were making art all day long…because Andy was a taskmaster…And then they’d go out partying all night,” adds Haynes. “And you’d go to a party and then you’d go wake up the next morning, do some more speed, and start making art again…it was a…ludicrously pleasurable time.”

As Pharrell Williams considers pulling his Something in the Water Festival from his native Virginia Beach following the fatal police shooting of a family member, fans are planning a peaceful protest to show support for him.

The all-star festival was scheduled for April 22-24, 2022, however the 13-time Grammy winner may move the event to another city because his cousin, Donovon Lynch, was shot and killed by a Virginia Beach police officer on March 26, 2021. Following his death, Pharrell called for a federal investigation.

Xiomara-Rosa Fernandez, who administers a Something in the Water Facebook page, told Norfolk ABC affiliate WVEC-TV that a sit-in will take place on Saturday, November 6 at the Virginia Beach waterfront.

“We sit down at the beach, where the stage was, the main stage,” Fernandez says. She added that she expects fans to attend from other cities.

As previously reported, Pharrell wrote a letter last week in response to city manager Patrick Duhaney, who had written to Pharrell saying he wanted to discuss having the event return.

Pharrell wrote that the goal of the festival was “to ease racial tension, to unify the region, bring about economic development opportunities, and broaden the horizons of the local business community. We achieved those things!”

“I wish the same energy I’ve felt from Virginia Beach leadership upon losing the festival would have been similarly channeled following the loss of my relative’s life,” Williams continued.

The Something in the Water festival debuted in 2019, featuring Travis ScottJanelle MonaeSZA, Migos, Lil Uzi Vert and many more. In 2019, 25,000 tickets to the music festival sold out in 21 minutes, and the total economic impact was over $24 million. The event was canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to the pandemic.

Jordan Davis and Luke Bryan reunite this week for a new version of “Buy Dirt,” a duet that originally came out as the title track of Jordan’s May EP.

This time around, the two stars trade verses on a stripped-down, acoustic version that highlights the song’s message. A new video shows Jordan and Luke performing the song from two bar stools, putting an emphasis on the song’s advice for leading a simple, happy life.

When Jordan first released “Buy Dirt,” he explained that he wanted Luke on the track because the country superstar embodies the message behind the song.

“Luke isn’t just a great entertainer; he’s a great dad, a great husband, and a great friend, too,” Jordan explained. “That’s what ‘Buy Dirt’ embodies. When I wrote ‘Buy Dirt,’ I knew he could relate to the song’s message.”

“Buy Dirt” also lends its name to Jordan’s headlining tour, which kicked off in September. Beginning this month, the singer is also a supporting act on Kane Brown’s Blessed and Free Tour.

One started on a TV talent competition and one started on TikTok. Today, Lauren Jauregui and Dixie, aka Dixie D’Amelio, have new songs for you.

Lauren has announced that her debut solo album, PRELUDE, will be out November 5, and she’s released a new song from the project, “Scattered,” featuring rapper Vic Mensa.  The former Fifth Harmony singer says of the jazzy, dreamy tune, “It’s essentially about my mind being scattered. Vic heard it and felt it. I loved the idea of having a male perspective on assessing mental health.”

Vic adds, “The transparency and the vulnerability, that’s what drew me into the song…I’ve come to realize that when I speak about the myriad of mental issues I go through…not only is it a catharsis for me, it’s also valuable for the world because so many people are going through the same manifestations.”

Dixie, whose current single “Psycho” is climbing the charts, has dropped “The Real Thing,” a song that was featured on her Hulu series The D’Amelio Show, and in promo videos for Social Tourist, the brand she owns with her sister, Charlie.  “The Real Thing” is about the search for true love.

“I’m releasing ‘The Real Thing’ for the fans. The same fans that support me and motivate me to keep going when I’m feeling defeated,” Dixie says in a statement. “You requested this, so I’m delivering the full version to you. I’m so thankful for all of you and I’m really excited to be able to drop this!”

Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford has revealed that he was diagnosed with cancer last year amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“I had my little cancer battle a year ago, which I got through and that’s in remission now, thank God,” Halford tells Consequence.

“That happened while we were all locked down, so things happen for a reason as far as time sequence of events,” he adds. “I have nothing but gratitude to be at this point in my life, still doing what I love the most.”

As Consequence reports, Halford goes into more detail about his private fight with cancer in the newly released paperback edition of his 2020 book, Confess.

In an added chapter to the book, Halford writes that he underwent surgery to treat prostate cancer in July 2020. When the cancer returned earlier this year, Halford started radiation therapy, and was cleared by doctors in June. His appendix was also removed after it grew a tumor.

“It’s been a draining year, I can’t deny it, but I’m delighted to have come through it,” the book reads.

Meanwhile, Halford’s Priest band mate Richie Faulkner just went through his own scary health ordeal when his aorta ruptured during a performance at September’s Louder than Life festival. He’s currently recovering after undergoing over 10 hours of emergency heart surgery.
