Kelsea Ballerini stepped far outside of her comfort zone in order to create her newest project, a book of poetry called Feel Your Way Through. The volume addresses the singer’s coming-of-age story and explores family dynamics, sexuality, body image concerns, relationships and more.

“Poetry, to me, can seem really kind of heady,” Kelsea explains. “It’s really just an autobiography that rhymes. So I’m nervous and I’m terrified, and it’s certainly the deepest I’ve gone and also the most artful I’ve gone.”

The book might never have been written without the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent shutdowns, which took Kelsea — and the rest of the touring industry — off the road for over a year. During that time, she says, she wasn’t able to process her emotions through songwriting the same way she always had in the past.

“I couldn’t write music about it, because music made me sad,” she admits. “Because that’s such a place of connection and community, and it wasn’t in 2020.”

But the time off the road sparked another source of inspiration for Kelsea. While she was writing, she says, she began to slow down and reflect on a way she never could have during a normal year.

“We’ve all had this excess time to think and to process and to be — you know, I really like being busy,” she goes on to say. “I like running at a high speed all the time. And so I hadn’t really thought about my life since I was 19. I’ve just been sprinting. And I had a lot to process.”

Feel Your Way Through arrived last week.

Move over, Peak TV. It’s time for Puscifer TV.

The latest project from the Maynard James Keenan-led band is an online library of past, present and future Puscifer video pieces, such as their Existential Reckoning and Money $hot streaming concerts. As Keenan tells ABC Audio, Puscifer TV feels like the realization of what he originally conceived the band to be.

“Those concert films are kind of where I had envisioned Puscifer kind of living,” Keenan shares. “Doing tours, but having some kind of audio/video element to it.”

Other pieces currently available on Puscifer TV include An Easter Story, a video Keenan released earlier this year, featuring narration about his existential feelings toward the spring holiday. Keenan says he’s begun work on another, similar-type clip.

“Somebody’s always asking me…[to compare] winemaking or martial arts or music. What’s the differences? What’s the similarities?” Keenan explains. “So I’m actually writing a piece on those intersections. Haven’t shot anything yet, but plan on it.”

Keenan adds that Puscifer has already shot two more concert films, and he’s hoping to include a physical element this time, as well.

“We’d like to just wait until the vinyl’s in our hands before we actually release that pay-per-view,” he says. “So, there will probably be two more coming in ’22.”

Overall, Keenan feels Puscifer TV will be of interest to anyone looking for a “good storyline” and “good music.”

“Especially as an artist, if you’re a person who plays music and plays live music, I think there’s definitely some nuggets you can steal and apply to your own project,” Keenan says. “It’s worth a look.”

He adds, “We’re not f***ing around. We don’t take ourselves seriously, but we take the art seriously.”

Puscifer TV is available now via Puscifer.com.

Carrie Underwood and Gabby Barrett were the big country winners at the 2021 American Music Awards, collecting two awards each at Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater on Sunday night.

Gabby was awarded favorite country album for her debut, Goldmine, while country fans voted her song “The Good Ones” favorite country song.  As for Carrie, she took home the award for favorite female country artist — her ninth overall — as well as favorite inspirational artist.

Although the country category was not televised during the AMAs, Carrie still had her moment to shine when performing her new song “If I Didn’t Love You” with Jason Aldean, who went into the ceremony with a nod for favorite male country artist.

The honor went to Luke Bryan — marking the fifth time he’s won favorite male country artist.  Previously, he dominated the category with four consecutive wins between 2012 and 2015.

Dan + Shay repeated history when the audience again voted them favorite country duo/group — the third time in a row they’ve won the honor.

Other performances of the night included Kane BrownMickey Guyton and Walker Hayes.  Brown, who was last year’s winner for favorite male country artist, took the stage to perform his hit, “One Mississippi.” Meanwhile, Mickey belted out a powerful rendition of “All American” and was shouted out by host Cardi B for teaching her how to milk a cow.

Walker performed his viral single “Fancy Like,” which was nominated for favorite country song.

During his speech, the “My Ex’s Best Friend” singer also shouted out “all the aspiring musicians, the one who desires to play an instrument, wants to rap, wants to sing — not just the rock artists, but all the artists who are rock stars.”

I read a headline that said the age of the rockstar is dead,” he said in closing before holding up his award, “But looks pretty alive to me.”

AJRAll Time LowFoo Fighters and Glass Animals were also nominated for the honor.

AJR and Glass Animals also represented in the favorite pop duo or group category, but lost to the K-pop group BTS.

Billy Hinsche, one-third of the 1960s boy band Dino, Desi and Billy and a longtime member of The Beach Boys‘ touring band, died Saturday at the age of 70.

Hinsche’s passing was announced in an online message by his childhood friend Lucie Arnaz, whose brother, Desi Arnaz Jr., and the late Dean Paul Martin — the respective sons of Desi Arnaz & Lucille Ball and Dean Martin — were the other two members of Dino, Desi and Billy.

“One of the finest humans, friends, storytellers and musicians, on the entire planet just went home to rest. Billy Hinsche has died,” Lucie wrote. “Giant cell carcinoma. Only diagnosed a couple weeks ago. It ravaged him like an out of control train.”

Lucie also revealed that Billy’s 95-year-old mother, Celia, died the same day within six hours of his passing.

Hinsche was born in the Philippines, and during his childhood he moved with his family to Beverly Hills, where he met Arnaz and Martin in school. Dino, Desi and Billy formed in 1964 and scored a pair of top-40 hits the following year with “I’m a Fool” and “Not the Lovin’ Kind,” which reached #17 and #25, respectively, on the Billboard Hot 100.

The trio disbanded in 1969, and Hinsche, who played multiple instruments, went on to tour and record frequently with The Beach Boys from the 1970s through the 1990s.

Hinsche also worked on solo projects by The Beach Boys’ Carl, Brian and Dennis Wilson, and he toured in Brian’s backing band in 2007. He also served as musical director for Beach Boy Al Jardine‘s solo band.

In addition, Hinsche’s sister Annie was the late Carl Wilson’s first wife.

Beach Boys frontman Mike Love, Brian Wilson and Jardine all posted tributes to Hinsche on their social media pages.

Sammy Hagar is famously known as the Red Rocker, but he may be donning silver and black this afternoon, when he’ll be performing during the halftime show at the Las Vegas Raiders’ game against the Cincinnati Bengals at Sin City’s Allegiant Stadium.

Hagar will be joined by guitarist Vic Johnson, a member of Sammy’s backing groups The Circle and The Wabos, and the two musicians will be accompanied by the Raiders House Band.

Hagar’s set will include renditions of his former band Van Halen‘s “Right Now” and his 1982 solo song “There’s Only One Way to Rock.”

“It’s going to be a blast to come out…and rock the Raiders’ halftime show,” says Hagar in a statement. “I have a great deal of respect for [Raiders owner] Mark Davis and it’s incredible what he and the team have brought to Las Vegas, which is like a second home to me…I’ve done some cool things in my life, and this is up there.”

Sammy recently wrapped up a run of sold-out “Sammy Hagar and Friends” residency shows at the Las Vegas venue The Strat.

Hagar becomes the latest in a series of music stars who have performed at Raiders home games this season, joining Carlos Santana, electronic music artist DJ Marshmello and rappers Ludacris, Too $hort and Ice Cube.

The Raiders-Bengals game begins at 4:05 p.m. ET/1:05 p.m. PT.

Meanwhile, Hagar and The Circle will wrap up their 2021 tour schedule next month with the “A Toast to Texas” trek, a four-show outing taking place December 3 in Fort Worth, December 4 in San Antonio, December 6 in Austin and on December 8 in Houston.

Britney Spears seemingly criticizes Christina Aguilera, praises Lady Gaga for conservatorship comments

Britney Spears seems to be keeping careful track of who she feels is on her side when it comes to her years-long battle to free herself from her conservatorship.

On her Instagram Story on Friday night, Britney posted a video of her former Mickey Mouse Club co-star Christina Aguilera at the Latin Grammys being asked about her.  Christina’s publicist interrupts and says, “We’re not doing that.” An apologetic Christina is led away, saying, “But I’m really happy for her.”

Britney captioned the video, “I love and adore everyone who supported me…but refusing to speak when you know the truth is equivalent to a lie !!!! 13 years being in a corrupt abusive system yet why is it such a hard topic for people to talk about??? I’m the one who went through it!!!! All the supporters who spoke up and supported me thank you…Yes I do matter !!!!!”

She then posted a video clip of Lady Gaga answering a question about Britney while promoting her new film House of Gucciy. “The way that she was treated in this business was really wrong,” says Gaga. “And the way that women are treated in the music industry is something that I wish would change. I think that she will forever be an inspiration to women.”

Britney captioned that video, “Thank you @ladygaga for genuinely taking your time to say something so kind. You made me cry!!! I love you!!!”

Christina’s fans were quick to point out that Christina did speak out about Britney in June, tweeting a thread that stated, in part, “It is unacceptable that any woman, or human, wanting to be in control of their own destiny might not be allowed to live life as they wish…[Britney] deserves all the TRUE love and support in the world.”

The Legendary 1979 No Nukes Concerts, an archival film and album focusing on the performances that Bruce Springsteen and his E Street Band gave during a series of historic, star-studded environmental-themed shows in New York City, got its release today on DVD, Blu-ray and audio formats.

The film and companion audio feature The Boss and his band playing 13 songs at two of the MUSE benefit concerts, aka the “No Nukes” concerts, which took place in September 1979 at Madison Square Garden. Ten of the performances are previously unreleased.

The movie was edited by longtime Springsteen collaborator Thom Zimny using the original 16-millimeter film, and the audio was remixed by lauded engineer Bob Clearmountain.

Earlier this week, a video premiered on Springsteen’s YouTube channel featuring Bruce, E Street guitarist “Little Steven” Van Zandt and longtime Springsteen manager Jon Landau discussing the No Nukes performances with Zimny, intercut with footage from the shows.

At one point, Zimny comments that it was great to see two of the E Street Band’s late members, sax player Clarence Clemons and keyboardist Danny Federici — who died in 2011 and 2008, respectively — performing so vibrantly at the concerts.

“Clarence was probably at his greatest. Danny also,” Bruce notes. “And it was just a certain peak moment in one of the many chapters of the band.”

The Legendary 1979 No Nukes Concerts is available now as a two-CD/DVD or two-CD/Blu-Ray set, a two-LP vinyl package, and on digital audio and video formats.

Here’s the full track list:

“Prove It All Night”
“Badlands”
“The Promised Land”
“The River”
“Sherry Darling”
“Thunder Road”
“Jungleland”
“Rosalita Come Out Tonight”
“Born to Run”
“Stay”
“Detroit Medley”
“Quarter to Three”
“Rave On”

Former Blue Öyster Cult members Albert Bouchard and Joe Bouchard have teamed up for a special livestream event that’s scheduled to premiere this Saturday, November 20, at 3:30 p.m. ET at Volume.com.

The show will feature the musical brothers performing songs as well as taking part in a Q&A.

Albert tells ABC Audio that he and Joe will be playing selections from their respective solo careers and well as a few Blue Öyster Cult classics.

The virtual event is free for those who sign up for a Volume.com membership. Viewers are encouraged to “tip” the artists during the event.

The Bouchard brothers also make up two-thirds of the band Blue Coupe, along with founding Alice Cooper group bassist Dennis Dunaway.

Meanwhile, Albert recently released a sequel to his 2020 concept album Re Imaginos, titled Imaginos 2 — Bombs over Germany (minus zero and counting).

The new album continues the story based on the writings and poems of late Blue Öyster Cult manager, producer and songwriter Sandy Pearlman about an alien conspiracy that comes to fruition during the late 1800s and early 1900s through the actions of an evil character named Imaginos.

Re Imaginos itself is a reimagined version of the 1988 Blue Öyster Cult concept album, Imaginos.

Last week, Bouchard premiered a music video for one of the Imaginos 2 tracks, “OD’d on Life Itself,” which you can check out on the Deko Entertainment label’s YouTube channel. Blue Öyster Cult originally released their own version of the tune on their 1973 album Tyranny and Mutation.
