Sum 41 may be over, but frontman Deryck Whibley is still “In Too Deep” in the music world.

In an Instagram post reflecting on 2025, Whibley shares that he began the year making a vow: “NO more guitars for a while.”

“I was planning on stepping back from music, leaving my day job, and putting everything into starting @walkingdisaster clothing,” Whibley writes. “Instead… this happened.”

By “this,” Whibley means acquiring 10 guitars over the year, including a 1959 Les Paul Standard Sunburst.

While he may not have kept his 2025 New Year’s resolution, Whibley says there is a bright side.

“The one good thing about breaking this promise is that it’s actually inspired me to play and write songs more lately!” Whibley writes.

Sum 41 concluded their farewell tour in January 2025 and played live for the last time in March upon being inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.

Charlie Puth has a big year coming up: He’s singing the national anthem at the Super Bowl, releasing a new album in March and becoming a first-time dad around the same time. That’s probably why he’s currently got a pretty great outlook on life.

When asked what he’s hoping for in 2026, Charlie told ABC’s On the Red Carpet, “Im manifesting for people to be a bit more present, myself included, I think it’s really easy to get caught into the world of social media and we live in a very beautiful world, more beautiful than ever.”

Charlie also revealed that he’s already trying to get his child interested in music while they’re still in utero — but he’s going for a 1970s soft rock vibe rather than his own songs.

“I’ve definitely sang to the belly a couple of times and showed baby my favorite music, my favorite James Taylor songs,” he shared. He also played the baby “the really sad Dan Fogelberg [track], ‘Same Old Lang Syne,'” noting, “God, that’s a good song!”

All of it is in preparation for a time when, Charlie said, he’ll be able to celebrate the holidays surrounded by his growing musical family.

“I can’t wait to have a Christmas where there’s a bunch of kids and, you know, typical fireplace and I’m at the piano and, maybe, baby will know how to play piano too,” he told On the Red Carpet. “That would be impressive if the baby knew how to play piano at like one year old.”

Then again, there’s always the possibility of the other extreme.

“Can you imagine if they just want nothing to do with music?” Charlie laughed, before adding quickly, “And that’s okay, too!”

Wyclef Jean helped ring in the new year as part of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin Eve with Ryan Seacrest. Now that 2026 is officially underway, he’s already looking ahead to what’s next. At the top of his list: his native country Haiti’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

“Haiti, we ain’t been in the World Cup for close to 50 years. We made it this year, we’re qualified. So here we go,” he tells ABC’s On the Red Carpet during rehearsals for NYRE. “2026. God, Please,” he continues. “[I’m] excited about the World Cup. You know, when a place is going through so much and for, you know, a team to be qualified. That’s gonna be amazing.”

Wyclef is also celebrating personal milestones in 2026, including his daughter heading to New York to pursue higher education, while remaining grateful for his family and their many blessings.

“I’m looking forward to my daughter. She’s going to college and she’s going in New York,” he said. “It’s just been amazing again just to see the family every day. I wake up, I cheese because I know God is good and he’s looking down on me.”

The 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off June 11. Haiti, which celebrated its independence day on Jan. 1, has been placed in group C. The team will face Scotland in its opening match on June 13, followed by games against Morocco and Brazil.

BTS album announcement (BIG HIT Music)

After their record label confirmed that March 20 would mark the group’s “comeback,” BTS announced on Sunday that that date would bring a new album from the K-pop superstars, who’ve been on hiatus for several years.

The album, their fifth full-length release, will drop at midnight ET. It includes 14 tracks, and is described as “driven by each member’s honest introspection.” The album “defines the group on its own terms,” according to a press release.

BTS will also hit the road for a world tour in support of the album, with details being announced Jan.14 at midnight KST. It’ll be their first major tour since 2022.

The group took a collective hiatus so that all the members could complete mandatory military service in their home country of South Korea. During that time, all of the group’s members released solo projects.

Imagine playing in a tribute band, and the artist whose music you’re paying tribute to joins you onstage. That’s what happened to the Billy Joel tribute band Turnstiles Friday.

According to the Palm Beach Post, Billy, who owns a home in the Palm Beach area, attended a Turnstiles concert at an amphitheater in Wellington, Florida, and ended up joining them for two songs. He took the stage wearing a jacket and a black knit cap, walking with the help of a cane.

As he sat at the piano, he laughed, “I wasn’t planning on working tonight,” before playing “We Didn’t Start the Fire” and “Big Shot.” His two youngest daughters — Della, 10, and Remy, 8 — sang and danced alongside him onstage.

The show marked the Piano Man’s first live appearance since he’d announced in May that he’d been diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus, a brain condition that can cause balance, vision and hearing problems. At the time, a statement noted that he was receiving “specific physical therapy.”

As a result of the diagnosis, Billy was forced to cancel all his scheduled performances, as well as a planned appearance at the New York City premiere of the HBO documentary Billy Joel: And So It Goes.

In a statement to People in July, Billy reassured fans,I know a lot of people are worried about me and my health, but I’m okay. What I have is something very few people know about, including me, no matter how much you try to research it. I’m doing my best to work with it and to recover from it.”

He added, “I just wanted to let people know, don’t worry about me being deathly ill or anything.”

The Format has released a new song called “Right Where I Belong,” a track off the band’s upcoming comeback album, Boycott Heaven.

“‘Right Where I Belong’ is a personal song about the lives we’ve built during our time away and the people we’ve built them with,” The Format says. “We know that many of you have grown alongside us and our music over the years – from touring and shows, to homes and families. We hope this song finds you where you are.”

Boycott Heaven, which also includes the lead single “Holy Roller,” is due out Jan. 23. It marks the first Format album since 2006’s Dog Problems. The group broke up in 2008, after which frontman Nate Ruess went on to form the band fun.

The Format then reconvened in 2020 for a planned reunion tour, but it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They reunited again in 2025 for a brief run of shows and will embark on a full tour in March.

After previewing it on their recently concluded North American tour, KATSEYE has officially released the fan-favorite track “Internet Girl,” along with a visualizer. The song, a satire of online fame, features the repeated phrase “Eat zucchini,” but the song’s co-writer Justin Tranter won’t reveal its meaning. Justin explained on TikTok, “It’s campy, it’s fierce, it’s c****, it can mean whatever you want.”

The Kid LAROI has released a new single called “Back When You Were Mine,” from his new album, Before I Forget, due on Jan. 9. The single is a breakup song that is seemingly about LAROI’s ex Tate McRae. He sings, “Did everything I was supposed to do/ I defended every lie about you/ I probably would’ve taken lives for you/ Better yet, girl, I probably would’ve died for you/ Back when you were mine.”

BTS‘ long-awaited comeback is getting closer. Big Hit Music, the K-pop superstars’ label, announced “March 20 comeback confirmed” and linked to an article that reported the group revealed that date in a handwritten letter to longtime fans. If March 20 is actually the release date of a new BTS album, it’ll be their first collection of original material since 2020.

Hey, Carly Rae Jepsen, Heated Rivalry wants you. While appearing on the What Chaos! podcast, Jacob Tierney, creator of the steamy Canadian hockey romance based on the book of the same name, was asked if he’s interested in having a song by fellow Canadian Carly featured in the show. Jacob said the show’s budget didn’t allow for it at first, but now that it’s the hottest thing on streaming, “I will next time. … I was even gonna ask her to write a new song.”

Bryan Adams released a new album called Roll With the Punches in 2025, and in 2026 he’s going to keep on rolling out new music. Well, sort of.

In a New Year’s Day video on Instagram, Bryan said, “In April, we have a new album coming out called Tough Town.”

But Tough Town isn’t exactly new: It’s a 10-track bonus disc that was included with the deluxe box set version of Roll With the Punches. So the April release Bryan is referring to is likely a stand-alone version of that disc, for those who didn’t buy the box set.

In his message, Bryan also flagged that acoustic versions of many of the songs from Roll With the Punches are now available on all streaming platforms.

Bryan will spend most of 2026 touring the world, starting in Japan at the end of January. His only U.S. shows are three dates in June at the Encore Theatre at Wynn Las Vegas.

It’s 2026, so where the hell are RAYE and Olivia Dean? On top of the charts, that’s where.

In the U.K., home to both artists, RAYE has scored the first #1 hit of the new year with “WHERE IS MY HUSBAND!” Olivia’s The Art of Loving has returned to the top of the album charts for a third time since its release, to claim the title of #1 album of 2026.

This is the second time RAYE has landed the first #1 of a new year in the U.K. She originally did it in 2023 with her breakthrough hit, “Escapism.” Reacting to the success of “HUSBAND,” RAYE told OfficialCharts.com, “I am so happy and grateful.”

“This is the first piece from my second album, and I couldn’t have even asked for a better start to this next chapter,” RAYE continued. “Tears in my eyes grateful. Thank you so much, and most of all to those of you who see me and believe in me…THANK YOU. Sending you the hugest hug of gratitude.”

RAYE has yet to announce an album title or release date, but she’ll kick off a world tour Jan. 22 in Poland; the tour will hit North America in March. Meanwhile, Olivia’s North American tour starts in July.

Olivia is also competing for the best new artist Grammy in February; RAYE was nominated for the honor last year. This year, she’s nominated for best music film for her Live At The Royal Albert Hall concert movie.
