Dave Grohl playing on upcoming new St. Vincent album

While he missed out on his chance to play on boygeniusthe record, Dave Grohl is set to guest on the album of another big indie star.

Annie Clark, aka St. Vincent, has revealed that the Foo Fighters frontman contributes to her next studio effort. Speaking with MOJO, Clark also confirms that the upcoming album will feature Foos drummer Josh Freese, who joined the band in 2023 following the 2022 death of Taylor Hawkins, and Welsh musician Cate Le Bon.

“A pretty tight little Wrecking Crew,” Clark remarks.

Clark previously collaborated with Grohl on a cover of the Nine Inch Nails song “Piggy” back in 2020.

As for the sound of her new record, Clark describes it as “urgent and psychotic, in equal parts the most caustic sound and also, I think, the most sonically blooming.”

“I needed to go deeper in finding my own sonic vocabulary,” Clark says, noting that the album will mark her first fully self-produced effort. “I like to think of [the record] as post-plague pop, it’s a lot about heaven and hell — the metaphorical kinds. Which is appropriate, because sitting alone in a studio for that many hours I would say is a version of hell.”

The most recent St. Vincent album is 2021’s Daddy’s Home, which won the Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album. That year, she also put out a cover of Metallica‘s “Sad but True” for the Blacklist tribute album.

Bow Wow recalls former lean addiction that led to hospitalization

Bow Wow opened up about his past addiction to lean — a combination of codeine and promethazine — during his recent appearance on The Art of Dialogue podcast. He revealed he was heavily using the substance while recording and promoting his joint project with Omarion, 2007’s Face Off.

“I was on lean. I was sipping so much syrup,” he shared. “I was drinking that s*** like crazy. If you go back and watch The Road to Platinum series on BET, you’ll see so many white Styrofoam cups. I was losing my f****** mind. That lean s*** had me f***** up. I was just always irritated.”

He said he grew a dependency on the substance, drinking “all day long,” and was eventually hospitalized.

“We were on our tour, I was co-headlining with Chris Brown, and the opening night was in Cincinnati and when I got off stage, I collapsed,” Bow recalled. “I went straight to Cincinnati University Hospital. My stomach was so f***** up that I ended up going back home to Atlanta after the first show.”

“I’m sitting in the hospital not knowing what the f*** going on, and I get back home and the s*** gets worse. I’m throwing up, I’m shivering in the bed, I’m sweating, I’m going through it,” Bow continued. “I didn’t know I was having withdrawals. That’s how much lean I was consuming.”

Bow was forced to drop out of the tour, but his image was saved, as his late publicist released a statement citing dehydration and keeping his addiction concealed.

“That’s just good PR. We didn’t want the world to know that 18-, 19-year-old Bow was heavy on the drank,” Bow Wow said.

Following the health scare, he drinks tequila and smokes weed, staying away from hard drugs. “I know my boundaries,” he said.

Report: Ridley Scott in talks to direct Bee Gees biopic

SGranitz/WireImage

An in-the-works biopic about the Bee Gees may have found its director. Deadline reports that Oscar-nominated director Ridley Scott, best known for such films as Thelma & Louise and Gladiator, is in talks to helm the Paramount Pictures film about the ’70s disco legends.

Paramount has been working on the film for quite a while, obtaining the rights to the band’s story from the Gibb family in 2019. It also gained the rights to the group’s music, which means the songs will likely be featured in the film.

Barry Gibb, the only surviving member of the sibling trio, which also included his late brothers Robin and Maurice, is on board as executive producer.

Scott, who recently completed directing a sequel to Gladiator, actually has a history with the Bee Gees. In the ’70s, when he was trying to launch his directing career, the group’s manager Robert Stigwood was trying to get into the movie business. He hired Scott to direct a medieval film, Castle, which was supposed to star the brothers. The film was never made.

The Bee Gees have sold over 120 million records worldwide, thanks to hit albums like the soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever, which won five Grammys, including Album of the Year. Their hits include such songs as “Night Fever,” “Stayin’ Alive,” “Jive Talking” and “You Should Be Dancing.”

“Texas Hold ‘Em” is Beyoncé’s first entry on ‘Billboard’’s Country Airplay chart

Beyoncé’s no stranger to Billboard lists, yet it’s her first time on the country charts. Just two days after Columbia Nashville announced Bey’s “Texas Hold ‘Em” is being promoted on country radio, the track’s landed at #54 on the Country Airplay chart.

The chart displays audience impressions at roughly 150 country radio stations in the U.S.: “Texas Hold ‘Em” hit 1.1 million via 100 stations in the week ending February 15.

“We immediately added it a sub-power rotation, which is where we put top-trending new music,” Bo Matthews, program director at San Jose’s KBAY, tells Billboard of “Texas Hold ‘Em.” “I want people to hear it. One of the biggest artists in the world delivered a great country record for us to have fun with, and the song is really good. We are in the business of creating excitement for our listeners and I’m embracing the moment. Plus, there is plenty of room for great artists, even from other genres. It’s a big country tent.”

Virginia radio station WUSH’s program director Dave Parker says he “put the Beyoncé [song] directly into a strong rotation so it can be heard.”

“I want the station to sound as interesting as possible, because the opposite is boring,” he continues. “This song is sounding great and doesn’t sound like anything else. Plus, the feedback from listeners and even fellow staffers so far has been very positive.”

Tim Roberts, program director of Detroit’s WYCD, adds, “I think it’s a good record, and country is so popular right now, it’s great that she wants to be here. Just like we do with any song on our playlist, now the listeners will decide.”

“Texas Hold ‘Em,” released as a surprise on Super Bowl Sunday, has also debuted on the Pop Airplay charts, landing at #38.
