The Late Show with Stephen Colbert had the last laugh at the Emmys Sunday. Despite CBS canceling the show, the late-night talker took home the award for outstanding talk series.

As host Stephen Colbert and his crew took the stage, the audience gave them a standing ovation with shouts of “Stephen, Stephen, Stephen.”

“Thank you for this honor,” he started his speech, before acknowledging the network that canceled him. “I want to thank CBS for giving us the privilege of being part of the late-night tradition, which I hope continues long after we’re no longer doing this show.”

“Ten year ago, in September of 2015, Spike Jonze stopped by my office and said, ‘Hey, what do you want this show to be about?’ And I said, ‘Ah, Spike, I don’t know how you could do it, but I kinda want to do a late-night comedy show that was about love,’” he said. “I don’t know if I ever figured that out, but at a certain point, and you can guess what that point was, I realized in some ways we were doing a late-night comedy show about loss.”

“And that’s related to love because sometimes you only truly know how much you love something when you get a sense that you might be losing it,” he added.

“Ten years later in September of 2025, my friends, I have never loved my country more desperately. God bless America. Stay strong. Be brave,” he concluded his speech, before quoting Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy”: “If the elevator tries to bring you down, go crazy and punch a higher floor.”

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert has been nominated seven times in the outstanding talk series category. This was its first win.

Man on the Inside star Ted Danson and his wife, actress Mary Steenburgen, were honored with the 2025 Bob Hope Humanitarian Award.

The couple began the speech by thanking their parents for setting an example for how to live.

“My father was an archeologist, and spent most of his life digging up and cataloging the remnants of past cultures,” said Danson. “He taught me, ‘This life is not just about us. A lot of people have come before us, and a lot of people will come after us. It’s about our stewardship of what we have been given.'”

Steenburgen continued the speech, saying, “Together we have a sacred assignment to remind the world of its dreams, its failures, its laughter, its courage and, most especially, its hope.”

They are the first couple to receive the award together. According to a press release, the award is “given to individuals in the media industry whose deeds and actions have a lasting impact on communities and whose philanthropic efforts exemplify Bob Hope’s decades-long altruism and positive impact on society.”

“Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen have long used their voices — and their hearts — to champion causes that uplift the planet and its people,” said Cris Abrego, chair of the Television Academy, in a press release. “From environmental advocacy to humanitarian relief, they lead with grace, integrity and purpose. The Television Academy is proud to honor their extraordinary legacy of service with the Bob Hope Humanitarian Award.”

Erin Doherty took home her first-ever Emmy on Sunday night for outstanding supporting actress in a limited or anthology series for her role in Adolescence. It was also her first-ever nomination.

“I would love to mention every single person who was involved in making this show because it was the definition of a team effort, but I can’t get up here without talking about Stephen Graham and Hannah Walters,” she said. Graham co-created, co-wrote and starred in the series, while Walters served as an executive producer. “You are generosity personified,” she said, before joking, “even though Stephen called me a tea cozy today.”

In the lead actress in a limited or anthology series category, Cristin Milioti took home the Emmy for her role in The Penguin. It was also her first-ever win and nomination.

Noting that she wrote her speech on the back of notes she took in therapy, Milioti talked about how much she loved making the show and playing her character, Sophia.

“It’s very hard to make sense of being alive right now in this world, so I’m deeply grateful for the bright spots. And making this show with our incredible cast and our incredible crew and getting to inhabit this woman was a bright spot for me despite it being, like, very grizzly,” she said, adding “playing her felt like flying.”

Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel reunited at the Emmys in a nostalgic moment for Gilmore Girls fans.

The actors brought the audience back to Connecticut as they posed on the red carpet together, and again when they appeared onstage in front of the iconic Stars Hollow set.

“Twenty-five years ago, a show called Gilmore Girls premiered, and apparently took the season of fall hostage,” Graham said onstage.

As they presented the nominees for outstanding writing for a comedy series, Graham and Bledel reverted to their mother-daughter characters and shared their quick-moving dialogue.

“We had scripts.” “Great scripts.” “Big scripts.” “Terrifying scripts!”

This year marks the 25th anniversary of the beloved show, which was created by Amy Sherman-Palladino and Daniel Palladino.

Owen Cooper made history as the youngest person to ever win outstanding supporting actor in a limited or anthology series or movie at Sunday night’s 77th Emmy Awards.

The 15-year-old actor won the award for portraying Jamie Miller in Netflix’s limited series Adolescence. This was his first nomination and win. Sydney Sweeney presented him with the statue as the crowd took to their feet in a standing ovation.

He also said that he thinks “tonight proves that, if you listen and you focus and you step out of your comfort zone, you can achieve anything in life.”

Other nominees in the category were Javier Bardem for Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez StoryBill Camp for Presumed InnocentRob Delaney for Dying for SexPeter Sarsgaard for Presumed Innocent and Ashley Walters for Adolescence.
