After making a plea for gun reform at the White House earlier this month, Matthew McConaughey is reacting to the passing of new gun legislation this weekend.

After President Joe Biden signed the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act on Saturday, McConaughey took to social media to share his thoughts.

“While this bill isn’t perfect, it is a shining example of a great American potential and political virtue: the act of compromise and validating an opposing viewpoint,” he wrote in part.

McConaughey added, “This bill will save innocent lives by keeping guns out of the law breaking and irresponsible hands that are trying to hijack the Second Amendment…Our government took a step in the right direction. Now it’s time for us to remind them AND ourselves what the best of our country is AND can be.”

The actor stepped up his gun reform activism following the May 24 school shooting in Uvalde, Texas, his hometown. The shooting killed 19 elementary school students and two teachers.

On his Instagram account, Alec Baldwin announced via video that he will interview another controversial star, Woody Allen, and Baldwin says he “could not care less” about anyone who has a problem with that.

The actor is no stranger to controversy himself, in light of the investigation into the 2021 fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of Baldwin’s movie, Rust. Baldwin, a producer of the movie and the man holding the pistol when the fatal shot was discharged, is also named in a wrongful death suit.

Regarding his interview subject, Baldwin made reference to the 2021 HBO documentary film, Allen v. Farrow, which detailed allegations Oscar-winner Allen sexually abused his adopted daughter, Dylan Farrow, when she was a child.

Allen has repeatedly denied the allegations, which first surfaced in 2013, but his career was upended during the height of the MeToo movement: Amazon Studios cancelled a multi-million dollar contract with the filmmaker, leading him to sue for breach of contract in 2019.

For his part, Baldwin captioned his video, “Let me preface this by stating that I have ZERO INTEREST in anyone’s judgments and sanctimonious posts here. I am OBVIOUSLY someone who has my own set of beliefs and COULD NOT CARE LESS about anyone else’s speculation. If you believe that a trial should be conducted by way of an HBO documentary, that’s your issue.”

Baldwin will conduct the interview with Allen on Instagram live on Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. Eastern time.

“I love you, Woody,” Baldwin closed his video post. “Instagram, I’m with Woody, Tuesday, 10:30. Be there.”

On Sunday, the actress reshared a posting of the video, commenting, “Thank you for posting. Love everyone out there in the streets fighting for what’s right…”

She also released a statement through her publicist, saying, “I’m extremely proud of the hundreds of people who showed up yesterday to exercise their First Amendment rights and take immediate action to peacefully protest the giant injustices that have been delivered from our Supreme Court.”

The statement continued, “Our activism will continue until our voices are heard and action is taken. This will not deter us, we will continue fighting for our rights. We are not free until ALL of us are free.”

Christian Bale paused a promotional interview for his upcoming role in Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder Friday afternoon to briefly address the SCOTUS ruling overturning Roe v. Wade.

Bale plays Gorr the God Butcher in the upcoming film, which deals with the question of what makes a hero.

“Just in light of what happened today [with the] Supreme Court and everything. ‘What’s a true superhero?'” he asked rhetorically.

“We all have a superhero power, and that is voting,” Bale said. “And that’s incredibly important.”

Marvel Studios’ Thor: Love and Thunder, which also stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Russell Crowe, Tessa Thompson and writer-director Taika Waititi, opens July 8.

Marvel Studios is owned by Disney, the parent company of ABC News.

(NOTE LANGUAGE) Friday’s Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade reverberated through Hollywood, with many stars taking to social media to vent their frustrations.

Here are some of those who posted:

Cher: TODAY, TRUMPS RADICAL (REPUBLICAN) SUPREME COURT,BECAME RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DEATHS OF HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS OF AMERICAN WOMEN.THEY CAN’T BE PROSECUTED, BUT MAKE NO MISTAKE…“THEY ARE GUILTY”‼️ WHAT OTHER RIGHTS (WE TAKE 4 GRANTED) ARE NEXT!? BE AFRAID BE VERY AFRAID‼️

Rachel Zegler: “Why the f*** don’t you care about us? why the f*** do you think you have any say over our bodies?”

Rob Reiner: “Don’t despair. Fight back!! Hold the House, add 2 seats to the Senate, kill the filibuster, codify Roe, and add seats to SCOTUS. 2022 will determine it all. VOTE!!!”

Ariana DeBose: “I have nothing nice to say at this moment in time.”

Al Franken: “Today’s decision is the culmination of a 50 year project by GOP operatives, religious fundamentalists, billionaire oligarchs, & right-wing media. Work, donate, vote!!! #RoeVsWade #Dobbs

Padma Lakshmi: “People will still get abortions. These procedures won’t stop just because Roe v. Wade is overturned. This will only prevent safe, legal abortions from taking place. People who have the money, time, and resources will still find avenues for their procedures. But the most vulnerable of our community? What choices are those individuals, who are mostly BIPOC, left with? This is the catalyst for a public health crisis. The right to decide when to start a family or not is a choice every individual should be able to make on their terms when the time is right for them. This freedom and dignity is something we should all fight to preserve.”

Bill Gates: “This is a sad day. Reversing Roe v. Wade is an unjust and unacceptable setback. And it puts women’s lives at risk, especially the most disadvantaged.”

Bette Midler: “GET READY, GAYS. YOU’RE NEXT.”

Josh Gad: “You don’t need 280 characters today. Just one word: Rage”

Eric Kripke, the showrunner of the Emmy-nominated Amazon series The Boys, wants to bring back the Winchester boys.

Kripke created the long-running CW show Supernatural, which starred The Walking Dead‘s Jeffrey Dean Morgan as the father of Dean and Sam Winchester, played respectively by Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki.

With Ackles currently starring as Soldier Boy on The Boys, Kripke is eager for a Supernatural reunion. “Jeffrey Dean Morgan is a superfan of the show, so he and I are talking,” Kripke tells E! News.

“We’re trying to figure out something for season 4. Nothing finalized yet, but he and I are chatting and emailing and seeing it we can make it work with his busy schedule. So, stay tuned on that.”

As for Padalecki? “I would put Jared on the show in a heartbeat,” Kripke says, adding of the Walker, Texas Ranger reboot star, “I would put him on the show in a second.”

Stay tuned …

Meanwhile, The Boys dropped what is promising to be its most controversial episode yet on Friday. Based on a bawdy adventure from Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson‘s graphic novel series, the episode centers on the super-powered orgy known as Herogasm.

The Boys‘ Instagram noted of the episode, “Please allow 3 to 5 business days to recover, maybe more.”

Amazon Studios countered, “Might need 5 – 7 business days.”

Apple TV+

The new comedy series Loot kicks off Friday on Apple TV+ and opens with Maya Rudolph‘s socialite Molly enjoying all the trappings of having a dashing billionaire husband — until she finds out he’s been cheating on her with a much younger woman.

With an $87 billion divorce settlement in hand, but no direction in her life, Molly gets an unexpected call from Sofia, played by Pose Emmy winner Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, the no-nonsense head of a charitable foundation that Molly doesn’t even know she technically runs.

Sofia needs to make sure the money keeps flowing to various charities — and that Molly’s globe-trotting rebound tour stops embarrassing the nonprofit.

“It’s a little bit of a … fish out of water for Molly, for sure,” SNL vet Rudolph tells ABC Audio.

“And I think that … pairing people together who would never spend any time together just immediately allows you to have endless possibilities of things going wrong, which is always a great place to start for comedy, obviously.”

Rodriguez, agrees, contrasting the “free-spirited” Molly to her dedicated character, Sofia, who doesn’t have time for Molly’s shenanigans — like giving women at a domestic abuse shelter designer-curated SWAG bags.

“I just like that they’re just totally polar opposites,” Rodriguez says. “You would never expect for these two to be in the same place together. And yet they are. They’re an odd couple, for sure.”

Rudolph jokes, “It’s The Odd Couple 2.0.”

Rodriguez revealed it was hard to constantly act peeved opposite Rudolph “because she is actually a sweetheart.”

“It’s a challenge in general to be in front of a legendary icon,” she adds, “and you have to play this character that is no B.S. So, yeah, it’s hard, but I like the … challenging.”

When Kevin Ford went viral earlier in the week for showing off his goodbye gift after 27 years of service to a Las Vegas airport Burger King, it got a lot of attention.

After all, for all his “loyalty…and never missing a day,” his SWAG bag was more than a little lacking: It included a movie ticket, a bag of Reeses Pieces, a Starbucks cup and a couple of pens, among other office bric-a-brac.

His daughter Seryna started a GoFundMe for the 54-year-old grandad, expressing he worked tirelessly and managed to raise his family and put four daughters through college thanks to his hard work — and the internet delivered.

The campaign has topped $46,000 as of late Friday morning — and to the grateful former employee’s surprise, one donor of $5,000 turned out to be David Spade.

For his part, TMZ reports, Ford was shocked to see that the “David Spade” on his list of benefactors was the David Spade from Saturday Night Live and Tommy Boy.

According to a screengrab of Instagram DMs between the two, Ford used the “mind blown” emoji, among other unprintable exultations. “Cannot believe this!!” Ford exclaimed, adding, “I think I might be able to take a day off,” to which Spade replied, “Wait until year 30.”

Ford then joked, “Damn, Are You One Of My Managers?”

The dedicated worker tells the gossip site that he intends to spend some of the donors’ generosity to visit his grandkids in Texas and buy a hybrid car.
