On a new episode of Hot Ones, Ted Lasso Emmy winner Jason Sudeikis broke down his career, his inspiration for the shades-wearing soccer, er, football coach, and what he felt about Saturday Night Live — before he was on it.

As is the show’s requirement, he did so while eating a selection of increasingly spicy wings.

Sudeikis didn’t shy away from the accusation he used to “hate” on the show, particularly when he learned that eventual SNL writer-turned-Better Call Saul star Bob Odenkirk also admitted to it. “I take pride in that,” Jason told host Sean Evans. “I love that dude.”

“Metaphorically it feels like that girl in school that you have a crush on that you hate on until you realize that … she was asking about you,'” he said with a laugh. “It was a little bit of that youthful ignorance and arrogance.”

He added, “They would never let me play football at Notre Dame, I would never get to play basketball at KU, so how would I ever get to work on Saturday Night Live?” he recalled thinking.

“So yeah, let’s hate on it.”

He confesses, “It wasn’t so much hating on it, ’cause I had heroes on that show. I had friends on that show at the time. I had a specific reason that I tried to articulate why, but I think deep down inside, I was just protecting myself from the possibility of not achieving something that ‘boy oh boy wouldn’t it be neat if I did.'”

Of course, Sudeikis eventually got hired on SNL, first as a writer in 2003, then as a cast member from 2005 to 2013.

Oh, and he also defeated all 10 wings.

Jason Momoa in ‘Fast X’ — Universal

While Fast X is currently the number one movie in the world, it’s also driven into the record books again.

Receipts for the 10th film in the Fast saga — plus its Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham spinoff two-hander Hobbs & Shaw — have pushed the global take of the series that started in 2001 past $7 billion.

That places the franchise at #5 on the biggest movie series of all time, tied with Warner Bros.’ Harry Potter movies and its Fantastic Beasts spinoffs, Deadline reports.

Idris Elba plays an expert in negotiations who puts all his skills to use in the upcoming Apple TV+ series Hijack.

The show takes place in real time after gunmen take control of a plane on the seven-hour flight from Dubai to London.

In the coming attraction, Elba’s character appears to be working both sides, stalling to keep the terrorists calm while preparing the passengers to take the plane back. He circles the ad copy “Get ready to shake things up” on a beverage container before passing it to other passengers.

One man wraps his fist in a seat belt extender to use the metal buckle as makeshift brass knuckles. A female passenger removes a gold hair pin.

“It’s either us or them,” he tells a frightened passenger. “And I can tell you it’s not gonna be us.”

On the ground, The Good Wife‘s Archie Panjabi plays a counterterrorism leader trying to uncover who the bad guys are — and discovers that it’s more than your standard terrorism plot.

Idris co-produced the tense series, which debuts on the streaming service on June 28.

Warner Bros. Pictures

The main trailer for the highly anticipated Barbie film is here.

The new trailer gives fans more of an in-depth look at Barbie’s world — filled with pink cars, pink houses and palm trees.

It opens with Ken (Ryan Gosling) asking if he can come over to Barbie’s (Margot Robbie) house. Barbie says yes and that she’s just having a “giant blowout party with all the Barbies and planned choreography and a bespoke song.”

The trailer then takes off with Barbie and Ken dancing to a new song by Dua Lipa in the background, Barbie driving in her pink convertible, and more scenes in Barbie Land filled with pink beaches and houses.

Things take a turn when Barbie seemingly has an existential crisis, which features a clip of her iconic tip-toe feet falling flat and another clip of Barbie going to the real world.

A synopsis for the film says, “To live in Barbie Land is to be a perfect being in a perfect place. Unless you have a full-on existential crisis. Or you’re a Ken.”

The Greta Gerwig-directed film includes a star-studded cast playing different versions of Barbies and Kens.

Ritu Arya, Nicola Coughlan, Ana Cruz Kayne, Dua Lipa, Emma Mackey, Kate McKinnon, Hari Nef and Issa Rae are among the Barbies, while Kingsley Ben-Adir, Scott Evans, Ncuti Gatwa and Simu Liu play Kens.

Earlier this week, the film released the lineup of artists who will be featured on the album. Along with Dua Lipa, fans can expect to hear Ava Max, Charli XCX, Nicki Minaj, Ice Spice, HAIM, Ryan Gosling and more.

Barbie arrives in theaters July 21.

Quentin Tarantino drops hints about his 10th and final film, ‘The Movie Critic’

ABC/Randy Holmes

Quentin Tarantino is at the Cannes International Film Festival, and he shed some light to Deadline on The Movie Critic, his 10th and supposedly final film as a director.

Tarantino says the movie is “based on a guy who really lived, but was never really famous, and he used to write movie reviews for a porno rag … He wrote about mainstream movies.”

From his research, the real-life person died in his late 30s, the filmmaker says, from what he explained were likely the effects of alcoholism.

“I think he was a very good critic. He was as cynical as hell,” he continued. “His reviews were a cross between early Howard Stern and what Travis Bickle [Robert DeNiro‘s Taxi Driver character] might be if he were a film critic.”

The movie is set in 1977, and Tarantino says he goes into pre-production in about a month.

He says it will “definitely be a new leading man for me,” as many of his recurring stars, like 59-year-old Brad Pitt and 48-year-old Leonardo DiCaprio, are too old to play the 35-year-old.

However, one subset of actors shouldn’t wait for their phone to ring.

“The truth of the matter is, yes, obviously, a Brit could pull it off, but I don’t want to cast a Brit,” Tarantino says.

“Obviously, nothing against the Brits … I think when people look back on this era of cinema, and it’s just all these British actors pretending to be Americans and all these Australian actors pretending to be Americans, it’s like phantoms. Nobody is acting in their own voice.”

While most people wouldn’t recognize the address 11222 Dilling St., Studio City, CA, most everybody would know the house: it was the main location of The Brady Bunch.

It seems after loving it, HGTV has decided to — to quote one of its hits — list it.

After purchasing it for $3.5 million in 2018 and extensively renovating the interior to exactly match the house as seen on TV — all part of a successful series called A Very Brady Renovation — the network is now letting it go for $5.5 million.

That show saw a team of experts, as well as former Brady Bunch stars, getting the house to look like what the sitcom’s viewers saw on TV. At the time, co-star Eve Plumb (Jan) noted, “I think we were all involved in demo of some sort in each of the rooms. And then, we were all involved in the rebuilding of them.”

She added, “Furniture, if something couldn’t be found or sourced, they made it. Printed fabric to match for the couch, they made a beautiful stereo cabinet that we put together and I helped to stain.”

According to the listing, the five-bedroom, five-bath, 5,140-square-foot residence is “a lifetime opportunity to own one of the most iconic single family residences in the world.”

It continues, “From the infamous staircase that anchors the home, to the bright orange formica kitchen counters, to the blue bunk beds and pink twin beds, and let’s not forget about the groovy attic. … The possibilities are endless.”

HGTV plans to use a portion of the proceeds from the sale to help provide up to 250,000 meals for Turn Up! Fight Hunger, an initiative that benefits the food insecure through No Kid Hungry.

Just remember not to play ball in the house.

Citadel, the spy series from Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo, is getting another mission from Amazon Studios.

The streaming service announced Thursday that the show, which stars Priyanka Chopra-Jonas, Richard Madden and Stanley Tucci, has been renewed for season 2.

Following its debut on April 28, the show has become the second most-watched new original series outside the U.S. and fourth most-watched worldwide, according to the streaming service.

Calling Citadel a “global phenomenon,” Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon and MGM Studios, enthused, “Our goal was always to create a new franchise rooted in original IP that would grow Prime Video’s international audience. This show has drawn an outsize number of new international customers to Prime Video.”

In addition to the renewal announcement, Salke revealed the streaming service will make the show’s debut episode free for one month on Amazon Freevee beginning Friday, May 26.

In the announcement, it was also noted that Joe Russo would direct every episode of the forthcoming season.

On behalf of their AGBO production company, the Russos said they’re “thrilled to embark on this next phase of the spyverse,” noting, “The innovative storytelling of Citadel has paved the way for an incredible, worldwide collaboration with creatives in front of and behind the camera.”

Kim Cattrall and Leslie Bibb on working with each other, Robert De Niro in ‘About My Father’

In the new, well-reviewed family comedy About My Father, actor and stand-up comedian Sebastian Maniscalco plays a boutique hotel manager who is on the brink of popping the question to his girlfriend, played by Leslie Bibb.

However, when she suggests he bring his eccentric, blue-collar Italian dad (Robert De Niro) to meet the rest of her affluent family over a holiday weekend, feathers figuratively — and literally, thanks to the family’s prized peacocks — fly.

For Bibb, it meant she got to have “frickin’ icon” Kim Cattrall play her senator mom, Tigger, and screen legend De Niro as her potential father-in-law. “I know, right?” Bibb enthuses. And “earlier in the year I’d worked with Melissa McCarthy and I was like: This has been a hell of a year. Like 2021. We’re in a pandemic. But Jesus, this is pretty fricking cool.”

Bibb continues, “I was so excited to work with her. She’s a frickin’ icon. And she’s so kind and so funny. When I first saw the movie … I was like, she and David [Cattrall’s onscreen husband, David Rasche], and then she and Bob together, are so hysterical.”

De Niro’s Salvo is a hairdresser by trade, and one scene has Cattrall’s character needing a glow-up before a TV interview, so Tigger asks him to do the honors. “It’s wonderful to have your head massaged by Robert De Niro. I highly recommend it,” the former Sex and the City star says of the “delicious” scene.

She adds, “I didn’t know where that scene was going to go, and I don’t think he did either. And that was the exciting thing about it.”

About My Father opens Friday.

Comedian Bert Kreischer takes the lead in ‘The Machine’

Comedian Bert Kreischer’s popularity has skyrocketed the past few years, thanks to podcasting, TikTok and his standup specials, and now he’s starring in his first movie, The Machine, out this weekend.

The film is a spin on a true story that happened to Kreischer when he was in college, studying abroad in Russia. He got mixed up with some bad people and ended up robbing a train with Russian mob. The movie was filmed in Serbia, with the Balkan country standing in for the former Soviet Union.

“I was sincerely pitching me going to Russia to promote the movie. And they’re like,’You really don’t watch the news, do you?'” he tells ABC Audio.

Starring in the film means Kreischer was number one on the call sheet, which was amazing, but also dangerous.

“I can see how it can go to people’s heads and you can get nightmare humans, because when I came back from Serbia, I was coming in hot,” he shares. “I’m like, ‘I need a water.’ And my daughters are like, ‘Oh, mom, I don’t know who we got, but this isn’t dad.'”

Starring in the show was “like getting your ego stroked every single day,” he says.

“It’s the greatest feeling. I mean, I don’t know what it’s like to be royalty, but I will tell you, being the star of a movie has got to be really close,” Kreischer adds.

Ultimately, the 50-year-old tells ABC Audio he’s really happy that this experience came now, rather than when he was younger.

“I would be dead,” he shares. “I wouldn’t have met my wife. My wife is the reason I’m a regular human being, because she’s a regular person…. I am really lucky I got success late in life. I wish it for everyone.”

In Brief: ‘Breaking Bad’ alumna goes to ‘Bad Boys 4’, and more

The answer is James Holzhauer. The question? “Who won the first Jeopardy! Masters tournament?” Holzhauer beat Mattea Roach and Matt Amodio, who placed second and third, respectively. Roach — the youngest player in the tournament at 24 — gave Holzhauer a run for his money, holding the lead going into the Final Jeopardy round. Both failed to answer the last question, but James ended up the winner with a score of 43,795 to Roach’s 41,685. Holzhauer earned $500,000 and a $100,000 donation to Project 150 — which helps Las Vegas-area high school students with insecure housing — while Roach got $250,000 and Amodio bagged $150,000…

Nick Gehlfuss, who played Dr. Will Halstead on all eight seasons of NBC’s Chicago Med, is hanging up his stethoscope, according to Variety, making his final appearance on Wednesday night’s Season 8 finale. Will left the series’ Gaffney Chicago Medical Center and he reunited with his ex-fiancée, Natalie — played by Torrey DeVitto, who made a surprise appearance in the episode after leaving at the end of season 6. “It was a difficult decision, but ultimately, I felt I’d taken Dr. Halstead as far as I can go with him,” Gehlfus told the outlet. Chicago Med is set to return in the fall…

Rhea Seehorn will join Will Smith and Martin Lawrence for the fourth Bad Boys film, according to Deadline. The Better Call Saul alum joins the previous cast from Bad Boys: For Life, including Paola Núnez, Vanessa Hudgens and Alexander Ludwig, who are all returning for the fourth installment. Grey’s Anatomy alum Eric Dane is also on board. Bad Boys for Life — the third installment — made more than $426 million worldwide before COVID-19 forced theaters to shut down in 2020. The Bad Boys franchise has grossed a total of $840.7 million globally…
