Ahead of his fourth time hosting the Academy Awards, Jimmy Kimmel is putting the finishing touches on his monologue and sharpening his bits.

So what brought him back to the high-profile, high-stress gig? One big reason is that huge hits like Barbie and Oppenheimer are in the running for Best Picture, he says.

He tells ABC News, “It’s a big part of why I decided to host the show this year, because I do know that there are movies that people have actually seen, which makes it a lot easier to make jokes about them.”

On that note, Ryan Gosling taking to the stage and belting out the Barbie ballad “I’m Just Ken” will be a must-see moment, Jimmy teases. “It’s a big production and Ryan takes this stuff very, very seriously.”

He continues, “It’s funny because I think Ryan was lying for a couple of months leading up when he’s saying, ‘Oh, I haven’t been asked to sing.’ That’s untrue. He had been asked repeatedly to sing at the Oscars. And I think … he came in and he looked around at the space, he looked at the theater, and he’s like, ‘OK, yeah, I think I will do this.’ And now he’s in.”

This year, the broadcast on ABC will start at 7 p.m. ET, an hour earlier than usual. Kimmel jokes that he hopes people know this by now. Otherwise, he says, “You will miss my monologue. Which is very important — maybe not to the viewers, but to me. … So that is I think the big X factor going into this particular show, will people miss the whole first hour of it?”

“The end of the world ain’t what it used to be”: Prime Video drops epic ‘Fallout’ trailer
Prime Video

On Thursday, Prime Video dropped an epic trailer for its forthcoming series Fallout.

Based on the bestselling video game series, the story takes place 200 years after an apocalyptic event, when “the gentle denizens of luxury fallout shelters are forced to return to the irradiated hellscape their ancestors left behind.”

The coming attraction starts with a flashback: actor Walton Goggins gives the hard sell for these vaults, what he calls the “veritable Camelot for the nuclear age.”

Then we see what happens when these survivors, including Ella Purnell‘s Lucy, emerge, “shocked to discover an incredibly complex, gleefully weird and highly violent universe waiting for them.”

One of these denizens includes Goggins himself, with a face burned into a grotesque mask as The Ghoul, the gunslinger familiar to players of the game.

“You look out on this wasteland, it looks like chaos. But there’s always somebody behind the wheel,” the antagonist says eerily.

The trailer also gives a peek at the hardware of The Brotherhood, the militaristic faction with their imposing armored suits that are also a mainstay of the game.

As the promo teases, “The end of the world ain’t what it used to be.”

The series was created by Westworld director Jonathan Nolan, who co-wrote The Dark Knight with his Oscar-nominated Oppenheimer director older brother and frequent collaborator, Christopher.

All eight episodes drop on Prime Video April 11.

Steve Lawrence, the entertainer who spent decades as one half of the iconic singing duo Steve & Eydie with wife Eydie Gorme, has died at 88 years old.

A rep for the Emmy and Grammy winner tells ABC News Lawrence died on Thursday from complications due to Alzheimer’s disease.

Born Sidney Liebowitz, the Brooklyn, New York, native began his entertainment career at just 16 years old after winning a talent competition.

He met his wife and singing partner-to-be when they both appeared on Steve Allen‘s Tonight Show; the pair were married in Las Vegas in 1957.

They gigged regularly in Vegas throughout the ’60s, also playing New York, Chicago and Miami, and were mainstays on TV during the variety show heyday, appearing on The Ed Sullivan Show and others.

Lawrence and Gorme also appeared on Broadway in productions like Golden Rainbow, and Lawrence was nominated for a Tony for his solo turn in 1954’s What Makes Sammy Run?

He also had 33 songs on the Billboard chart between 1952 and 1966, with five reaching the top 10.

The performer was also a regular guest on The Carol Burnett Show in the ’70s; in the ’80s, he and his fellow New Yorker Gorme played a series of sold-out concerts at Carnegie Hall.

Lawrence appeared on dozens of TV shows over the years, from Two and a Half Men to C.S.I., and he made one appearance as Morty Fine, the mysterious dad of Fran Drescher‘s character in The Nanny.

On the big screen, he logged appearances in films including 1980’s The Blues Brothers opposite John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd, and its sequel in 2000 with Aykroyd and John Goodman.

Gorme passed away in 2013, and the eldest of their sons, Michael, died in 1986.

For all his time in the gym, one might not assume Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is one of the best-smelling guys you’ll ever encounter: But trust us, it’s true.

As it turns out, scenting is just one part of his daily routine, which he’s expanded into another entrepreneurial venture, Papatui skin care for men.

Speaking with People, Johnson explained, “I found over the years as men, we can have these great conversations about working out, recovery, ice baths, saunas … trucks and cheat meals and tequila and our favorite movies, but every conversation I would have regarding skincare, I was always pulled to the side privately.” He continues, “So many times I would say, ‘Dude, why are we whispering [it]? It’s okay. We should be able to have this open conversation.'”

He adds, “Papatui has allowed me to encourage just a more open, greater conversation about skincare and grooming.”

The line includes facial cleansers, eye gels, moisturizes, tattoo care products and toners. Credit his Jungle Cruise co-star Emily Blunt for the latter, The Rock tells the magazine.

“We were sharing tips back and forth, and she said, ‘Hey, well, what toner do you use?'” Johnson replied he doesn’t use any, and she sent some to him, promising it would “change your life.”

Evidently, it did, and he called his own brand’s version his “secret weapon.”

There are also three scents, a nod to his Samoan grandfather. “He always smelled amazing, he was always well-groomed. He had beautiful skin. He was a big tough … professional wrestler. … He’s why today I’m not going through my day without a good-smelling cologne.”

Jacked Factory

When one thinks of the John Wick series, one might not immediately think of gym supplements, but that’s exactly what a company called Jacked Factory is now selling.

With promises to “unleash your inner Wick,” the Lionsgate-licensed WickMode powdered pre-workout regimen is, according to ad copy, “a meticulously crafted formula featuring powerful ingredients to provide users with explosive energy and endurance.”

“We were inspired by the character at the center of the franchise which nicely lines up with the core values of our sports nutrition brand, Jacked Factory,” the company touts. “Focus, relentless drive, and perseverance are key aspects of performance that we aim to enhance with our products. This collaboration enables us to provide a pre-workout that adds a truly distinctive experience to our customers.”

What’s more, they come in “three exciting flavors inspired by the John Wick universe — Osaka Cherry Blossom, Baba Yaga Blue Raz and Last Tropical Sunrise. WickMode pre-workout evokes a sensory experience that matches the intensity of John Wick’s focus, commitment and sheer will.”

We can’t attest to whether it will work as advertised, but at $40, it’s cheaper than a bulletproof black suit.

Road to the Oscars 2024: Fun facts about this year’s nominees
ABC/AMPAS

There are many fun facts to share about the 96th annual Academy Awards nominations. Here’s a look at some of the records that were broken and accomplishments that could possibly be made at Sunday’s awards ceremony.

John Williams broke his own record as the oldest person to ever be nominated for an Oscar. The 92-year-old composer was nominated for his Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny score. With this recognition, Williams remains the most-nominated living person, with 54 nods. This record is only surpassed by Walt Disney, who received 59 Oscar nominations during his lifetime.

If Billie Eilish and FINNEAS win the award for Best Song for “What Was I Made For?” from Barbie, the 22- and 26-year-old brother and sister duo will become the youngest two-time Oscar winners in history. They previously picked up an award for their James Bond anthem “No Time to Die” in 2022.

With his nomination for directing Killers of the Flower Moon, Martin Scorsese cemented his status as the living person with the most Best Director nominations, surpassing Steven Spielberg. Scorsese has been nominated for the prize 10 times over his career, taking home the award only once – for his 2006 film The Departed.

Speaking of Killers of the Flower Moon, Robert De Niro’s Best Supporting Actor nomination for the film sets the record for the greatest length of time between a performer’s first and most recent Oscar nominations. His Flower Moon recognition comes 49 years after he was first nominated for his performance in The Godfather Part II in 1975. De Niro breaks the record held by Katharine Hepburn, who spanned 48 years between her first nomination for Morning Glory in 1938 and her final nod for On Golden Pond in 1982.
