Eddie Murphy referred to his longtime partner, Paige Butcher, as his wife multiple times in a recent podcast interview with The New York Times.

Murphy’s first “wife” reference came early on in the interview, published Saturday, in which Murphy spoke on his career and his new movie, Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F. The 63-year-old said, “I used to know who everybody was. Now, there’s just so much stuff. I ask my wife, ‘Who’s this person?'” He added that Butcher would hypothetically respond, “‘Oh that’s so-and-so, the biggest thing in the world,'” said Murphy.

The Coming to America actor shares two of his 10 children, Max Charles Murphy and Izzy Murphy, with Butcher, an Australian actress.

Later in the interview, Murphy recalled his nightly television watching schedule. “I watch every night at 6 o’clock, when I eat dinner, I watch Steve Harvey and Family Feud, and on Tuesdays I watched the Masked Singer,” he said. “We do, my wife and I, we watch all those shows, the singing competitions and that kind of stuff.”

ABC News has reached out to a representative for Murphy for comment on his marital status with Butcher. Murphy was married to his ex-wife, Nicole Mitchell, from 1993 to 2006.

Murphy recently stepped out on the red carpet for the world premiere of Axel F with his family, including Butcher and several of his 10 children.

Murphy also recalled his early days of comedy, including idolizing Richard Pryor. He also noted, “That’s one aspect of who I am, that I’m a comedian, but I see myself as an artist. I’m a super sensitive artist, and I can dabble. I can express myself creatively in a bunch of different ways,” he said.

Bridgerton‘s third season has racked up 91.9 million views since its May 16 premiere, making it Netflix’s 10th biggest English-language show.

It sits right behind Bridgerton season 2’s 93.8 in the rankings, which are current as of June 30 — just 45 days after the season 3 debut. Since the rankings are based on each title’s first 91 days of viewing, the show’s third season has a good chance of surpassing its predecessor, and possibly season 1, which is ranked fourth with 113.3 million.

The Regency era romance series, executive produced by Shonda Rhimes, follows the Bridgerton siblings as they search for happiness in London’s high society.

Director Joe Carnahan, who came to fame with the 2002 gritty crime drama Narc, is reteaming with his Smokin’ Aces supporting player Ben Affleck and Ben’s longtime friend and fellow Oscar winner Matt Damon for a crime thriller called RIP.

The film is being released through Damon and Affleck’s profit-sharing production shingle Artists Equity, according to Deadline.

Carnahan, who also directed the acclaimed 2012 thriller The Grey with Liam Neeson, spoofed the trade’s story in his Instagram confirmation of the news, saying, “The original [headline] of this article, before my PR intervened was: ‘HANDSOME OSCAR-WINNING MOVIE STARS TEAM WITH RAPIDLY AGING, DOLL-HAIRED JACK BLACK CLONE,'” referring to his own picture next to more camera-ready shots of Damon and Affleck.

Alan Ritchson came to fame as the hulking title character in the Prime Video hit Reacher, but he’s apparently doing some downsizing.

The actor seemed to (impossibly) bulk up even more for his role as “mad dog” WWII hero Anders Lassen in the buzzy action movie The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, but according to his Instagram, he’ll be looking different in his next project.

“How do you completely transform when you only have a few days to transition from Reacher to your next role in period action piece extraordinaire, #MotorCity? You bring out the big guns,” Ritchson captioned a video of his prep work.

That ironically includes shedding some of his own big guns, and he thanked intermittent fasting superstar Thomas DeLauer for helping him “drop weight fast.”

Referring to video of him getting some work done on his chompers, Ritchson thanked a cosmetic dentist “for a less pearly set of pearly whites” and makeup artist Kat Crisp for “some new character specific tats.”

Ritchson explained, “My goal is always to make a character as real for you as humanely possible. Not having days off between jobs makes it hard to go as far as I want, but I’ll get as close to unrecognizable as possible.”

He adds, “I refuse to play myself. You’ve never experienced anything like Motor City.”

The revenge film from director Timur Bekmambetov just started filming and also stars Shailene Woodley, Pablo Schreiber and Ben Foster.

Lupita Nyong’o is now in theaters in the hit prequel thriller A Quiet Place: Day One, and she found portraying her character, Sam, had a “therapeutic” effect on her in light of the unexpected loss to cancer of her Black Panther co-star and friend Chadwick Boseman in 2020.

Sam is being treated for cancer, but in the midst of her fight for her life, a new struggle emerges: aliens who hunt by sound invade New York City.

Nyong’o tells People it was “scary to have to go there” considering her character’s battle with cancer and Boseman’s. Sam is “really facing their mortality, even before this apocalypse takes place, and life is slipping between her fingers,” she explains.

“That was daunting to have to go there, psychologically and emotionally,” she says.

“In the end, it was actually very therapeutic because I had just experienced not too many years ago the death of Chadwick Boseman, which shook me to my core. I definitely was thinking about that a lot,” she adds.

Nyong’o expresses, “What I came to realize is that it’s really important to be reminded of our mortality, because then we live life just a little more intentionally. When we think we have all the time in the world, we can really take people for granted and experiences for granted.”

Boseman battled the depths of the disease privately while at the height of his fame, with only a handful of those close to him aware of his colon cancer diagnosis. Boseman died at age 43 on Aug. 28, 2020.

Shortly thereafter, Nyong’o posted in a now-deleted Instagram tribute, “The news of his passing is a punch to my gut every morning.”

Awkwafina and Cena team up to cash in in trailer to ‘Jackpot’

Awkwafina and Cena team up to cash in in trailer to ‘Jackpot’
Prime Video

Awkwafina and John Cena appeared on YouTube on Tuesday to introduce the trailer to their new action-comedy Jackpot, which debuts on Prime Video Aug. 15.

Awkwafina plays Katie, a struggling actress who accidentally wins a rather unique lottery: a digitized ticket unexpectedly announces her as the prize-holder. But the catch is, everybody else knows, too, and if they kill her, the prize is theirs.

Enter Cena’s “amateur lottery protection agent” Noel Cassidy — a bodyguard of sorts who will ferry Katie to cash in safely, for a cut of the billion-dollar prize.

“I do trust you, I think it’s because you look like a bulldog that, like, a witch cast a spell on and turned into a human,” she quips after the pair navigate a city full of losing lottery winners.

However, Noel’s rival Louis Lewis — played by Awkwafina’s Shang-Chi co-star and Cena’s Ken counterpart from Barbie Simu Liu — runs the largest lottery protection firm and wants to cut Noel out of his cut.

Bridesmaids and Spy director Paul Feig called the shots on the film, which also stars Machine Gun Kelly.

Oh, and if that’s not enough, the trailer ends with Awkwafina and Cena introducing an actual winnable jackpot, including a bar of gold and chicken wings from Buffalo Wild Wings. Just go to TheJackpotJackpot.com for your chance.

At least if you win, nobody will try to kill you.

Maybe.
