Fear comes the bride … Netflix has pressed play on Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, a “psychological horror show” produced by Matt and Ross Duffer, the creators of the streaming service’s phenomenon Stranger Things.

According to Netflix’s official blog, Tudum, the limited series was created by Haley Z. Boston, who wrote for the Netflix offerings Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities and Brand New Cherry Flavor. The project centers on a bride and groom ahead of their apparently doomed wedding.

Boston will executive produce and act as a showrunner for the series, which is being produced via the Duffers’ and Hilary Leavitt‘s Upside Down Pictures shingle.

The Duffers noted in the announcement, “We were knocked flat when we first read Haley’s script. She is a major new talent with a singular voice — her writing is twisted, terrifying, funny, and just … very Haley.” They added, “We feel so lucky to be producing her first show, and we can’t wait to share her vision with the rest of the world.”

In the days since former President Donald Trump narrowly avoided being killed by an assassin’s bullet, the internet has been rife with conspiracy theories that the incident was somehow fake — this despite the fact that the shooting left one rally attendee, Corey Comperatore, dead and the former president and two others injured.

Some online pointed to a scene in the Tim Robbins movie Bob Roberts, in which a plot was cooked up to fake an attempted assassination to help a presidential candidate’s chances.

However, Robbins, who wrote and directed the movie — and has been an outspoken critic of Trump — has had enough.

Robbins wrote in a social media post, “To anyone drawing a parallel between my filmand the attempted assassination of Trump, let’s be clear. What happened [July 13] was a real attempt on a presidential candidate’s life.”

The actor added, “Those that are denying the assassination attempt was real are truly in a deranged mindset.”

Robbins continued, “A human being was shot yesterday. Another killed. They may not be human beings that you agree with politically but for shame folks. Get over your blind hatred of these people. They are fellow Americans. This collective hatred is killing our souls and consuming whatever is left of our humanity.”

Based on the hit true crime podcast Betrayal, the second season of the ABC News Studios-produced Hulu series of the same name will drop on Hulu July 30.

A teaser for the series just dropped.

Betrayal: A Father’s Secret follows Ashley Lytton, a wife and mother of three who makes a horrifying discovery about her husband, leading her to fear for their children.

The sophomore installment of the Hulu streaming show centers on the life of Ashley and her seemingly perfect husband, Jason, whom she discovered had a secret file on his computer with images of child exploitation — including of her own teen daughter.

“Jason would kill me before he would let me tell anyone this part of him,” Ashley says in the teaser.

His dark secret forced Ashley to take “swift action to safeguard her family from the man she thought she knew best, unraveling a tangled web of dark truths along the way,” the producers tease.

The forthcoming three-part docuseries also showcases “archival footage integral to the case as well as new interviews with Ashley’s immediate family members, close friends, therapist, divorce lawyer, law enforcement involved in the case and more.”

The teaser hints how Ashley turned the tables on him, closing with her saying, “He just really didn’t think I had it in me to do something. So, I did.”

Rihanna may not be giving us any music, but at least she’s offering emotional support. Natalie Portman has revealed that while she was going through her divorce from Benjamin Millepied, it was the “Umbrella” singer who gave her the boost she needed to get through it.

Appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon Monday, Portman said that when she met Rihanna during Paris Fashion Week and the singer gushed over her, “It was amazing … it was exactly what I needed.”

“I think every woman going through divorce should get to have Rihanna say to her that she’s a bad b****,” Portman said of the meeting. Fallon then played the video that captured their interaction, as they hugged each other tightly and Portman said, “I love you!”

“I am a f****** fan! You’re one of the hottest b****** in Hollywood forever!” Rihanna replied. A delighted Portman responded, “Are you kidding me? … I’m gonna faint.” Then Rihanna asked the photographers, “Can someone take a picture so I can remember this happened tomorrow?” She told Portman, “Yo, I don’t get excited about anybody, but I f****** love you.”

It’s not clear which Portman roles Rihanna particularly loves, but apparently she is a fan of the Star Wars prequels, in which Portman starred.

After Fallon played the clip of the meeting, Portman appeared to become emotional. “It was a formative moment in my life,” she told the talk show host.

In a post from the Oscar-winning studio, A24 broke the news it will be releasing Josh Safdie‘s forthcoming movie Marty Supreme, for which ABC Audio has confirmed Timothée Chalamet is in final talks to star and produce.

The social media post came with a black-and-white photo of a ping-pong ball.

While Variety reports Chalamet will be playing Marty Reisman, a former ping-pong-playing hustler who became a world champion and pop culture star, A24 tells ABC Audio the project “is not a biopic of Marty Reisman,” calling it a “fictionalized original work.”

A24 also confirmed Marty Supreme was written by Safdie and frequent collaborator Ronald Bronstein.

Chalamet recently wrapped work on A Complete Unknown, in which he portrayed a much more famous star: Bob Dylan.

Marvel Studios

Marvel Studios just dropped a surprise announcement, noting it will be staging what it calls the Deadpool & Wolverine Celebration of Life, which Deadline says will take place at San Diego Comic Con later in July.

While the Hollywood strikes curbed the usual promotion blitz that comes with San Diego Comic Con in 2023, 2024 has the studios pulling out all the stops.

Marvel Studios will return to the centerpiece of the con, the massive Hall H, on July 27, but studio president Kevin Feige tells the trade, “[W]hat I don’t think people know is that we’re also going to be in Hall H on Thursday [July 25] for the first time ever.”

He added, “Marvel Studios is going to be in Hall H twice during Comic-Con. Thursday, of course, is the opening of Deadpool & Wolverine, so we’re going to be doing a fun Deadpool panel in Hall H to commemorate the opening,” adding he will be joined there by director Shawn Levy, and stars Hugh Jackman and Ryan Reynolds.

It’s not yet known what other surprises are in store for the Celebration of Life.

Marvel Studios is owned by Disney, the parent company of ABC News.

A parody musical about that fiasco Willy’s Chocolate Experience in Glasgow, Scotland, has landed some veterans from 1971’s Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Julie Dawn Cole and Paris Themmen, who as kids respectively played Veruca Salt and Mike Teavee in the Gene Wilder classic, will take part in the live stage reading of Willy’s Candy Spectacular.

THR says the pair will trade off as narrators at the performances at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival: Cole will lead the cast from Aug. 9 to Aug. 18; Themmen succeeds from Aug. 19 through Aug. 26.

As reported, a veritable who’s who of musical comedy talent came together to roast one of the biggest social media fiascos of the year, including songwriters Alan Zachary and Michael Weiner, Broadway veterans and alumni of ABC’s Once Upon a Time.

Songwriting team Tova Litvin and Doug Rockwell are also aboard, as are Garfunkel & Oates and Another Period’s Riki Lindhome, and Daniel Mertzlufft, who created Ratatouille: The TikTok Musical.

The cast includes Kirsty Paterson — who vent viral as the Sad Oompa Loompa in the real-life attraction, Pitch Perfect‘s Shelley Regner, School of Rock vet Eric Petersen and Wilkie Ferguson from Broadway’s Motown: The Musical, among others.

Paramount+ rounds out cast of ‘NCIS: Tony & Ziva’
Paramount+

Paramount+ has announced the full cast of NCIS: Tony & Ziva, the spin-off of the hit CBS franchise. As reported, Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo reprise, respectively, as Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David in the series, which is currently in production in Budapest.

Foundation alumna Isla Gie plays Tali, “Tony and Ziva’s precocious 12-year-old daughter who is sick of being treated like a child.” The streamer adds, “She’s more intuitive and vigilant than the adults around her give her credit for and she’s ready to prove this to them.”

Shadow and Bone‘s Amita Suman plays Claudette, the tech whiz at Tony’s security company. “There’s no problem Claudette can’t solve or code she can’t crack,” the producers say.

Ted Lasso vet Maximilian Osinski plays Boris, a Russian expat and one of the most brilliant and illusive computer hackers in the world, while Emily in ParisNassima Benchicou plays Martine, an “elegant and cunning” former French intelligence agent.

Avengers: Endgame actor James D’Arcy plays Interpol official Henry; Coronation Street‘s Terence Maynard plays “gentle and probing” therapist Dr. Lang; and Lara Rossi from The Watch plays former U.K. Special Forces operator Sophie, who watches over Tali.

The producers tease that NCIS: Tony & Ziva “picks up after Ziva’s supposed death, when Tony left the NCIS team to go raise their daughter.” However, NCIS viewers learned Ziva wasn’t really dead and took part in one final mission for the agency, later reuniting with Tony and their daughter in Paris.

But “when Tony’s security company is attacked, they must go on the run across Europe … and maybe even learn to trust each other again so they can finally have their unconventional happily ever after.”
