Karla Sofía Gascón is apologizing for offensive social media posts.

The Spanish actress, who is nominated for the best actress Oscar for her work in Emilia Pérez, said she is “deeply sorry” for the posts, which contain Islamophobic, racist and otherwise offensive remarks on a wide range of topics.

“As someone in a marginalized community, I know this suffering all too well and I am deeply sorry to those I have caused pain,” she said in a statement, obtained by Variety. “All my life I have fought for a better world. I believe light will always triumph over darkness.”

Good Morning America has reached out to Gascón’s representatives and Netflix, where Emilia Pérez is streaming, for comment and has not yet received a response.

Screenshots published on social platform X from writer Sarah Hagi on Jan. 30 show tweets from Gascón spanning several years and written in her native Spanish, making offensive comments about Islam, calling the religion “INCOMPATIBLE with Western values” and “a hotbed of infection for humanity,” among other insults.

In other resurfaced posts, Gascón took aim at a variety of other topics, including the Oscar’s diversity, China’s involvement in the coronavirus pandemic and the 2020 death of George Floyd.

In posts about Floyd, Gascón denigrated him and said Floyd was someone “very few people ever cared about.” Posting about the 2021 Oscars, Gascón likened it to “an Afro-Korean festival” and called it “an ugly, ugly gala.”

Gascón’s X account has since been deactivated.

Gascón, a first-time Oscar nominee, is the first openly trans actor to score an Oscar nomination in the acting field.

In total, Emilia Pérez is nominated for 13 Oscars this year, including best picture, the most of any other film.

Chris Evans has no intention of donning his Captain America shield any time soon.

In a recent interview with Esquire, the actor said that the reports that surfaced back in December 2024 claiming he would appear in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday film are false.

“That’s not true, though,” Evans said. “This always happens. I mean, it happens every couple years — ever since Endgame. I’ve just stopped responding to it.”

To make things clear, Evans then said: “Yeah, no — happily retired.”

Anthony Mackie, who plays Sam Wilson, the new hero holding the title of Captain America, also spoke about the rumors Evans would return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe to Esquire.

“I talked to Chris a few weeks ago and it wasn’t on the table then,” he said. “At least, he didn’t tell me it was on the table, because I asked him. I was like, ‘You know, they said they’re bringing everyone back for the movie. Are you coming back?’ He goes, ‘Oh, you know, I’m happily retired.’”

Evans did return to the MCU in 2024, but he didn’t play Captain America. Instead, he reprised his Fantastic Four character Human Torch in Deadpool & Wolverine.

Another reunion for Romy and Michele is in the works, and actress Mira Sorvino says she and Lisa Kudrow are “pretty excited” about it.

Sorvino, who starred in the 1997 beloved film Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion with Kudrow, took to Instagram on Wednesday to share a report that she and Kudrow are in “final talks” to star in the sequel. Good Morning America confirmed the news on Wednesday.

Alongside a screenshot of the report from The Hollywood Reporter, Sorvino wrote, “We’re pretty excited about it,” adding in the comments, “Michele, this is definitely the cutest we’ve ever looked!”

According to the report, Sorvino and Kudrow, who will reprise their roles as Romy White and Michele Weinberger, respectively, are also in final talks to serve as executive producers.

Tim Federle, who is known for directing High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, is slated to direct the highly anticipated film, with Emily in Paris showrunner Robin Schiff set to write the script.

Schiff originally penned the screenplay for the 1997 film.

Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion followed two best friends, Romy and Michele, who decide to create fake careers to impress former classmates at their 10-year high school reunion. Over the years, the film has become a cult classic.

Alan Cumming, Janeane Garofalo, Elaine Hendrix, Julia Campbell and Justin Theroux also starred in the film.

Earlier this month, Kudrow talked about the film on The Drew Barrymore Show, and said that she and Sorvino were “as close as we have ever been” in terms of a sequel.

“There’s a script that’s really good,” Kudrow said. “Robin Schiff wrote it.”

Kristen Stewart and Steven Yeun dive headfirst into a love story between a buoy and a satellite spanning billions of years after the end of human civilization in the new film Love Me.

The project, in theaters Friday, explores themes of identity, love and what it truly means to exist.

Yeun said what drew him to the project was the “real wild and earnest swing that it was.”

Stewart called the film “a cool opportunity to call into question authenticity, because we’re so obsessed with it.”

“It is like a long, big, elaborate acting exercise that kind of results in this acknowledgement of individuality being important, but also the fact that we are so linked,” Stewart continued. “Humans are … we’re all the same.”

Yeun said his satellite “wants to be defined by somebody or something” when he meets Stewart’s buoy — an event he says makes the character eventually “come to terms with the fact that he wouldn’t have ever been defined or exist in this way if it wasn’t for the other person.”

Stewart praised Yeun for being “a muscular actor” to share a scene with in such a thought-provoking film as Love Me.

“He is down,” Stewart said. “Steven’s got this, like, very serious fieriness.”

Love Me also explores one of the biggest technological jumps of recent years: the emergence of AI.

“These things are extensions of us. If anything, the thing that’s difficult … to talk about [when it come to AI] is you’re really kind of talking about a portion of yourself, of ourselves,” Yeun said, with Stewart agreeing that “they’re mirrors” of us.

“Almost like the part that you don’t want to lose control of, which is so scary,” Stewart continued. “When we’re like, ‘Who knows what it could do.’ It’s like … are you talking about yourself right now? Are you scared of the evil within? Because, me too.”

M. Night Shyamalan is teaming up with the king of romance novels for his next project.

The filmmaker is teaming up with Nicholas Sparks to collaborate on his next film, a supernatural romantic thriller that will star Jake Gyllenhaal

Both Shyamalan and Sparks are independently writing a screenplay and a novel based on the same original love story they co-created. They’ll be based on the same story and characters, but will have subtle differences tailored to the different mediums.

This marks the second time Shyamalan has made a film based on literary material. He previously adapted Paul Tremblay‘s horror novel The Cabin at the End of the World into the 2023 film Knock at the Cabin. The new project is not technically an adaptation of Sparks’ novel, but instead a different version of the same story both artists co-created.

While no studio is attached to the project as of yet, Shyamalan and Ashwin Rajan will produce it through Blinding Edge Pictures, and Sparks will executive produce.

Get ready to head back to the world of Little House on the Prairie.

Netflix announced Wednesday that fans can look forward to a “reimagining” of Laura Ingalls Wilder‘s famous book series, which also spawned a massively popular series in the ’70s and ’80s.

“Part family drama, part survival tale, and part origin story, the series will offer a kaleidoscopic view of the struggles and triumphs of those who shaped the American West,” read an X post from the streamer.

Rebecca Sonnenshine is the showrunner for the new Little House on the Prairie series.

“I fell deeply in love with these books when I was 5 years old,” Sonnenshine told Tudum. “They inspired me to become a writer and a filmmaker, and I am honored and thrilled to be adapting these stories for a new audience.”

Wilder published eight installments in her semi-autobiographical Little House on the Prairie book series between 1932 and 1943.

Those books served as the inspiration for the television series of the same name, which ran for nine seasons between 1974 and 1983 and starred Michael Landon, Karen Grassle, Melissa Gilbert and more.
