“Final Destination is such an amazing treat for directors, because really at the end of the day it’s the filmmaking that comes for these characters,” says co-director Zach Lipovsky.
The series adheres to a strict formula: a group of characters survive a near-death experience, then must contend with death itself as it comes back to finish the job.
“There’s no personified antagonist, there’s no man with a knife or a monster or anything like that,” Lipovsky tells ABC Audio.
Final Destination is known for elaborately staged kills, often triggered by something as benign as condensation on a paper cup, or a load of logs on a tractor-trailer.
“We often start with this idea of what it is that we can ruin for people,” says Lipovsky. “What are objects that we all experience throughout our daily life that we could put into the film in a way that will horrify people to no end every time they see that object in the rest of their lives?”
Many of Bloodlines’ gory effects are done without the help of computer effects, which star Kaitlyn Santa Juana says helped her performance.
“It’s so much easier when there are literally limbs flying everywhere!” she says.
Bloodlines marks 25 years since the first Final Destination hit theaters, and in that time the franchise has garnered a rabid fanbase.
“I was a little bit nervous to do right by them because that was really important to me — that we make a film for the fans,” says star Teo Briones. “And I think we achieved that.”
The film also features one of the final performances from horror legend Tony Todd, who’s appeared in nearly every FinalDestination film. Todd passed away last year, and Bloodlines is dedicated to him.
Halle Bailey is requesting sole legal and physical custody of her son, Halo Saint Granberry, whom she shares with rapper, YouTuber and Twitch streamer DDG.
A judge granted a temporary restraining order on Tuesday for Bailey, 25, against DDG, 27, whose real name is Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr.
In her petition, the singer and Little Mermaid star accused DDG of starting “drama” and “badmouthing” her to his fans “whenever he wishes to cause upset.” She also claimed DDG had accused her of “withholding” their son from him and told his online audience that she had been “with other men.”
“This is false,” Bailey stated, claiming that she had “requested a set schedule” for him to see their son, but DDG had refused. She also accused DDG of creating a “fire storm of media around ‘freeing Halo'” from her and for “threatening” to take Halo from her and withhold child support, even though she claimed DDG had “never paid” her child support.
Bailey noted that she and DDG ended their romantic relationship in 2024 after two years together. They previously welcomed their son in December 2023.
Bailey alleged that DDG had been physically and verbally abusive with her since their split, which Bailey claimed was due to DDG’s “temper and lack of respect towards me.” She also claimed that “incidents of physical abuse” allegedly occurred before her son was born.
She accused DDG of multiple instances of harassment, with things allegedly escalating in January, when she claimed DDG was “very agitated” when picking up their son from her home.
“Halo was crying,” Bailey said. “I repeatedly pleaded with him to stop calling me a b****. I felt very nervous that he was taking Halo with him and was very agitated; I did not feel safe leaving a baby with him in this state. I also wanted to know when he would bring Halo back. He would not tell me.”
She claimed the argument “escalated” and “things got physical between us.”
“We fought each other, wrestling and tussling,” she claimed. “At one point, Darryl was pulling my hair. He then slammed my face on the steering wheel, causing my tooth to get chipped. I then stopped fighting back as I was in a lot of pain.”
Bailey further claimed that DDG entered her home in March without permission, stating that she had footage of the alleged encounter from her Ring doorbell camera. She claimed that the alleged encounter left her “feeling very unsafe and nervous that he would enter my home again when I was there.”
A few days after that incident, Bailey claimed DDG stopped by her home again to see their son. She stated that she and Halo were both sick with RSV and that she didn’t want DDG to take his son because of their illness.
Bailey claimed DDG “became angry” with her, “unplugged the Ring camera” after seeing it was recording and then locked her out of her home.
Most recently, on Mother’s Day, Bailey claimed DDG accused her of “being with other men” when she went on a short vacation with her sister and Halo.
The actress claimed that when Halo is in DDG’s care, their son is usually left with DDG’s mother.
“I cannot keep living like this,” Bailey stated. “I never know when he is going to demand our son be in his Mother’s care and whether I will be subjected to his threats and abuse.”
Bailey also stated that she wants Halo to be close with DDG’s family but said DDG “should be present instead of simply leaving Halo with his family for days.”
Good Morning America has reached out to Bailey’s rep and DDG’s management for comment.

DC Studios released the trailer for the upcoming film on Wednesday. The movie arrives in theaters and on Imax screens on July 11.
David Corenswet stars as Superman/Clark Kent in the film. The trailer shows off an interaction between him and journalist Lois Lane, played by Rachel Brosnahan, where she sits down for an exclusive interview with the superhero.

James Gunn directed Superman from a script he wrote based on characters from DC created by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster.
The upcoming Hunger Games film Sunrise on the Reaping has found its next star.
Maya Hawke will play Wiress in the film, Lionsgate announced on Wednesday.
Wiress is a former Hunger Games champion who serves as a mentor for the District 12 tributes. An older version of the character appeared in the second Hunger Games book and film, Catching Fire. She was portrayed by Amanda Plummer in the 2013 movie.

Hawke joins a star-studded previously announced cast. Joseph Zada is set to play Haymitch Abernathy while Whitney Peak will be Lenore Dove Baird, Mckenna Grace will play Maysilee Donner, Jesse Plemons will star as Plutarch Heavensbee and Kelvin Harrison Jr. will play Beetee.

Warner Bros. Discovery is changing the name of its streaming service yet again.
The streaming platform originally launched with the name HBO Max in 2020. In a much-discussed move, executives decided to ditch the “HBO” and change the name of the service to Max in 2023.
Now, WBD President and CEO David Zaslav has announced that the company is changing the name again … this time back to HBO Max. The rebrand will take effect this summer.
“The powerful growth we have seen in our global streaming service is built around the quality of our programming. Today, we are bringing back HBO, the brand that represents the highest quality in media, to further accelerate that growth in the years ahead,” Zaslav said.
The announcement came during the WBD Upfront presentation on Wednesday. Casey Bloys, the CEO of HBO and Max content, talked more about the rebrand while onstage at Madison Square Garden in New York City.
“With the course we are on and strong momentum we are enjoying, we believe HBO Max far better represents our current consumer proposition. And it clearly states our implicit promise to deliver content that is recognized as unique and, to steal a line we always said at HBO, worth paying for,” Bloys said.
The service currently known as Max replaced a service called HBO Now, which encountered a name change to HBO Go. That means the name of the company’s streaming platform has changed from HBO Now to HBO Go to HBO Max to Max, before returning to HBO Max this summer.
Warner seems to acknowledge the humor in the situation. Their press packet announcing the change included a meme from Friends, with Ross Geller as Max declaring, “We were on a break!” to the Rachel Green representing HBO.
