Jennifer Lawrence is getting candid about the challenges of postpartum and motherhood while promoting her new film Die My Love at the Cannes Film Festival.

During a press conference for the upcoming thriller, which follows a new mother’s descent into madness, the Oscar winner reflected on how the role hit close to home.

“As a mother, it was really hard to separate what I would do as opposed to what she would do. And it was just heartbreaking,” she said, according to Variety. “I had just had my firstborn, and there’s not really anything like postpartum. It’s extremely isolating, which is so interesting.”

Lawrence drew parallels between her own experience and that of the film’s main character.

“When [director] Lynne [Ramsay] moves this couple into Montana, she doesn’t have a community,” she continued. “She doesn’t have her people. But the truth is, extreme anxiety and extreme depression is isolating, no matter where you are. You feel like an alien.”

Postpartum depression affects as many as one in eight women, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. It can cause symptoms such as withdrawal from loved ones, excessive crying, anxiety, anger, self-doubt and intrusive thoughts. Unlike the common “baby blues,” postpartum depression can last for weeks or months and is more intense.

Die My Love, which also stars Robert Pattinson as Lawrence’s overwhelmed husband, had its world premiere at Cannes. Based on Ariana Harwicz‘s 2017 novel of the same name, the film centers on a new mother’s spiral into psychosis following postpartum depression, which strains her mental health and marriage.

Lawrence, who shares two children with husband Cooke Maroney, revealed she was five months pregnant with her second child while filming.

ABC News has reached out to Lawrence’s team for additional comment.

Michelle Williams is opening up about her memories of her late partner Heath Ledger.

During Monday’s episode of the Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard podcast, Williams, who shares daughter Matilda with the late actor, reflected on their time together after Shepard shared his own memories of Ledger.

Williams and Ledger began dating after meeting on the set of Brokeback Mountain in 2004 and welcomed Matilda in 2005. After three years together, the couple split in 2007.

Ledger died of an accidental drug overdose on Jan. 22, 2008, just months after he and Williams parted ways.

“I feel obligated to say that I knew him a little bit when he was getting sober, and I don’t know that I’ve ever fallen in love with somebody so quickly,” Shepard recalled during Monday’s podcast episode. “This is one of the most special boys I’ve ever met, and I [could] feel the weight of the world on him in a very special way that kind of broke my heart. I was very, very sad, and I thought he was just so special.”

Williams, becoming emotional, responded, “So special, so special. Thank god there’s Matilda.”

When Shepard described Ledger as “this heart here that’s just leaking out everywhere,” Williams agreed.

“Yeah, an incredible sensitivity,” she said.

Williams has spoken about her relationship with Ledger previously, stating in a 2018 interview with Vanity Fair that she felt “radical acceptance” from Ledger.

“I always say to Matilda, ‘Your dad loved me before anybody thought I was talented, or pretty, or had nice clothes,'” she said at the time.

In addition to Matilda, Williams is also a mother to three children with director Thomas Kail, according to People.

Omar Sy stars in Shadow Force as a secret agent who briefly separates from his wife Kyrah, played by Kerry Washington, to protect their son Ky. He and Ky bond over their love for Lionel Richie‘s “Truly in Love with You,” which viewers later learn is his and Kyrah’s wedding song. Kerry tells ABC Audio she and Omar love Lionel’s music in real-life.

“We are both Lionel Richie fans, which is so great. It was organic…I don’t know that Lionel is the soundtrack of my life the way he’s the soundtrack of their life, it’s so special. But I’ve always been a huge Lionel Richie fan,” she explains. She joked that he’s the fourth member of Kyrah’s family in the film, calling him “cousin” Lionel.

Shadow Force also makes other musical mentions, including a scene where Clifford “Method Man” Smith‘s Unc asks Ky if he listens to Wu-Tang Clan.

“I think it’s really great how much music plays a role in the movie. And I think its part of why you wanna see it in a theater, like in the surround sound, where you can really be taken by the music,” Kerry says.

She also praises Method Man’s performance, telling ABC Audio, “Cliff is so good in the films. He’s so funny and smart.”

She adds that the levity he and Da’Vine Joy Randolph “bring to the film is so spectacular and needed. (AUDIO IS ABC 1-ON-1)

Method Man plays alongside Da’Vine’s Auntie as secret agents recruited by Kyrah to help keep their family safe.

Shadow Force is currently in theaters.

Tom Cruise may be closing the book on the Mission: Impossible franchise, but the actor says he isn’t finished making movies.

“I actually said I’m going to make movies into my 80s. Actually, I’m going to make them into my 100s,” Cruise told The Hollywood Reporter at the Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning premiere in New York City on Sunday night.

He continued, “I will never stop. I will never stop doing action, I will never stop doing drama, comedy films — I’m excited.”

Cruise has starred in the Mission: Impossible franchise since the first film in 1996. The actor portrays Ethan Hunt, a highly skilled field agent and operative for the Impossible Missions Force, a secret government agency that handles dangerous and high-stakes missions.

The final installment in the series follows Hunt as he takes on “a new, and particularly formidable, enemy: an AI called ‘The Entity,'” according to a description for the film.

Angela Bassett, Hayley Atwell, Hannah Waddingham, Pom Klementieff, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg and Henry Czerny star alongside Cruise in the film.

Last week, Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning had its world premiere in Cannes, France.

Looking back on his time with the iconic franchise, Cruise said at the New York premiere that “there’s been so many levels of reward with the filmmakers that I’ve collaborated with — the crews, the people, the cultures that we’ve worked in, everything that I’ve learned and continue to learn about storytelling, about life, about leadership, about character and every aspect about filmmaking — and it’s been exceptional.”

He added, “I feel very fortunate to be able to make the films that I make, and I love it,” he said. “I just, I love making movies.”

Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning arrives in theaters May 23.

Denzel Washington has been awarded a surprise honorary Palme d’Or.

The honor was given to Washington during the world premiere of his newest film, Highest 2 Lowest, at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. The Hollywood Reporter shared a video of Washington accepting his career achievement award on Monday. The honorary Palme d’Or has only been presented 21 previous times.

Highest 2 Lowest marks Washington’s fifth collaboration with director Spike Lee. The film is a reinterpretation of the 1963 Akira Kurosawa thriller High and Low.

Ahead of the film’s screening, festival director Thierry Fremaux introduced a montage of scenes from Washington’s films. Clips from Malcolm X, Mo’ Better Blues, Glory and Training Day were shown before Lee took to the stage to present Washington with his honorary Palme d’Or.

Washington said the honor was a complete surprise as he accepted his trophy. This marks the first time Washington has attended the Cannes Film Festival over the course of his acting career.

Highest 2 Lowest comes from A24. It follows a titan music mogul, played by Washington, who is “widely known as having the ‘best ears in the business,’” according to the film’s official synopsis. After he’s targeted with a ransom plot, “he is jammed up in a life-or-death moral dilemma.”

A$AP Rocky, Jeffrey Wright and Ice Spice in her film debut star alongside Washington in the movie.

Highest 2 Lowest arrives in theaters on Aug. 22 and will be available to stream Sept. 5 on Apple TV+.

American Idol has crowned its season 23 winner.

Jamal Roberts, a 27-year-old PE teacher from Meridian, Mississippi, emerged as the winning singer on Sunday.

Roberts said he was still processing his big win in an Instagram post following the finale.

“From my first step on that stage to this unbelievable moment, I never dreamed a kid from my hometown would one day be called American Idol,” Roberts wrote in a caption. “This journey has been bigger than me, and I’m so grateful for every person who believed in me when I was just chasing a dream.”

The father of three also said he hopes his victory on American Idol can serve as an inspiration for his kids.

“Most of all, I hope my girls see this and know that with faith, hard work, and heart, anything is possible,” Roberts continued. “To my city, my family, and everyone out there grinding for something greater, this is our victory.”

“Now, I get to make music with the best in the world and share my story,” he added. “But this isn’t the end… it’s just the beginning. From the bottom of my heart…. THANK YOU! None of this happens without y’all.”

Roberts sang a rendition of Tom Odell‘s “Heal” in the reality show’s grand finale and came out on top from a pool of 24 contestants.

Fellow contestant John Foster, an 18-year-old college student from Addis, Louisiana, was the runner-up, while Denton, Texas, native Breanna Nix came in third.

Can you tell me how to get, how to get Sesame Street on Netflix?

The streaming platform is the new home for the beloved children’s TV show. Elmo, Big Bird and the rest of the Sesame Street gang are headed to Netflix for an all-new, reimagined 56th season of the show.

In addition to brand-new episodes coming to Netflix later in 2025, the platform will be home to 90 hours of previous episodes of the show.

Fans can expect updates to the format of the show with the new episodes. They will now all center on one 11-minute story, which Netflix says will allow for “even more character-driven humor and heart.”

Segments like Elmo’s World and Cookie Monster’s Foodie Truck will also make their return in these new episodes. “Expect new ways to play along as Cookie Monster opens his very own Cookie Cart on Sesame Street, and explore Abby’s Fairy Garden, a home to surprising and delightful magical creatures,” Netflix said in a release.

The new batch of Sesame Street episodes will be available on the same day and date in the U.S. on Netflix, and on PBS stations and PBS KIDS digital platforms. This will make the show available to watch for free for children around the country.

Sal Perez and Kay Wilson Stallings are the executive producers behind the show, while Emmy and NAACP award nominee Halcyon Person joins this season as its head writer.
