Adam Sandler‘s beloved character, Happy Gilmore, is making his return in Happy Gilmore 2, and things have definitely changed.
Nearly 30 years since Happy first hit the big screen, Happy Gilmore became a ’90s classic that helped launch Sandler into comedy superstardom with its one-liners and over-the-top antics on the golf course.
In an interview with Michael Strahan that aired on Good Morning America Monday, Sandler shared why he decided to bring Gilmore out of retirement, revealing that fan requests for a sequel finally got to him.
“When I walk down the street a lotta times people will say, ‘You ever gonna do Happy Gilmore 2?'” he shared. “And for 28 years, I was like, ‘What are you talking about? No.’ And then all of a sudden I was like, ‘Maybe.'”
Sandler said Gilmore’s life now it isn’t quite what it used to be.
“He’s older. He’s a little thicker, as you can tell from one of these camera angles,” Sandler joked. “But Happy Gilmore’s life isn’t perfect right now at the beginning of the movie. And he’s a family man, and he’s gettin’ back into the golf game.”
The film, which was announced by Netflix in May 2024, also boasts a star-studded cast with cameos from Bad Bunny, Travis Kelce and even professional golfers.
Strahan asked how Sandler managed to pull such an impressive lineup together.
”I don’t know how it happened,” he shared. “We wrote ’em stuff, everybody was kind enough to come. And everybody in it did a great job. Every day, someone cool would show up and we’d hang out.”
The movie is also a family affair for Sandler, featuring his wife, Jackie Sandler, and daughters, Sadie Sandler and Sunny Sandler.

Jimmy Kimmel, host of ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!, reshared Colbert’s on-air announcement about the cancellation in an Instagram Story, voicing his support for Colbert while criticizing Late Show host network CBS.
In an Instagram Story, Jimmy Fallon said he was “shocked” by the show cancellation announcement and praised his fellow late-night TV host.
“I’m just as shocked as everyone. Stephen is one of the sharpest, funniest hosts to ever do it,” Fallon wrote. “I really thought I’d ride this out with him for years to come. I’m sad that my family and friends will need a new show to watch every night at 11:30. But honestly, he’s really been a gentleman and a true friend over the years – going back to The Colbert Report, and I’m sure whatever he does next will be just as brilliant.”
Watch What Happens Live host Andy Cohen didn’t share a post but reshared a headshot of Colbert on his Instagram Story.
Severance star Adam Scott commented on The Late Show Reel featuring the cancellation news, writing, “Love you, Stephen this is absolute b*******, and I for one am looking forward to the next 10 months of shows.”

CBS announced Thursday that the network was canceling The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, with the longtime franchise ending in May 2026 after more than 30 years on air. The Late Show began in 1993 with host David Letterman at the helm. Colbert succeeded Letterman in 2015 when the latter retired.
“This is purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night,” George Cheeks, CBS’ president and co-chief executive of CBS parent company Paramount, said in a statement announcing the decision. “It is not related in any way to the show’s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount.”
Paramount has been working to finalize a deal to sell Paramount to Skydance Media, which needs approval from the Trump administration to go through.
President Donald Trump celebrated news of the cancellation of The Late Show, writing in a social media post, “I absolutely love that Colbert’ got fired.”
“His talent was even less than his ratings. I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert,” Trump continued. “Greg Gutfeld is better than all of them combined, including the Moron on NBC who ruined the once great Tonight Show.”
Kate Beckinsale has shared a tribute to her late mother, Judy Loe.
The actress mourned the death of her mom in a post shared to Instagram on Thursday. Loe died on Tuesday, July 15, at age 78. The British actress was known for her roles in TV shows such as General Hospital, Inspector Morse, Casualty and Holby City.
In her tribute post, Beckinsale wrote she did not want to post this news, but that she did because she registered her mother’s death certificate and she knew it would soon become public record.
“She died the night of July 15th in my arms after immeasurable suffering. I have not picked all the best photos, nor the best videos, because I cannot bear to go through my camera roll yet,” Beckinsale wrote. “I deeply apologise to any of her friends who are finding out this way or through the press, but I cannot go through her phone. I am paralysed.”
Beckinsale wrote that her mother was the compass of her life, the love of her life and her dearest friend.
“The vastness and huge heart of this tiny woman has touched so many people who love her dearly. She has been brave in so many ways, forgiving sometimes too much, believing in the ultimate good in people and the world is so dim without her that it is nearly impossible to bear,” Beckinsale wrote.
The actress ended her message by telling her late mother how much she loves her.
“Mama, I love you so much. This has been my greatest fear since finding my father dead at five and I am here. Oh my Mama.. I’m sorry, I’m so sorry. I am so sorry,” Beckinsale wrote.

After more than three decades on air, CBS announced on Thursday that its famed Late Show franchise is coming to a close.
The Late Show with Stephen Colbert will officially come to an end in May 2026, according to the network, which said the decision to end the show was a financial one.
“This is purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night,” George Cheeks, the president of CBS and co-chief executive of Paramount, CBS’s parent company, wrote in a press release. “It is not related in any way to the show’s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount.”
The Late Show began in 1993 with then-host David Letterman. When Letterman left the show in 2015, he was replaced by Colbert, who has hosted for the last decade.
“We consider Stephen Colbert irreplaceable and will retire ‘THE LATE SHOW’ franchise at that time,” Cheeks said in the release, adding, “He and the broadcast will be remembered in the pantheon of greats that graced late night television.”
Colbert addressed the decision during his Thursday show, saying of the news, “I just found out last night.”
The late-night host’s announcement was met with boos from the audience. “Yeah, I share your feelings,” Colbert said, going on to thank the network and the show’s more than 200-person crew for their longstanding commitment to the program.
“And I’m grateful to the audience, you, who have joined us every night, in here, out there and all around the world,” he added.
