(WASHINGTON) — President Donald Trump’s proposed 250-foot-tall “triumphal arch” at the National Mall in Washington, D.C., was given initial approval on Thursday by the Commission of Fine Arts, a federal agency, but revisions were requested to address the panel’s design concerns.

Five members on the commission, now made up entirely of Trump appointees, voted in favor of moving along with the project. The panel’s other two members were not present for the hearing.

The towering arch Trump wants to build near Arlington National Cemetery would be more than twice as tall as the Lincoln Memorial and taller than France’s Arc de Triomphe.

Protesters gathered outside the National Building Museum, where the commission has its office, and held up signs that read: “Stop Arch Insanity,” “No Trump Arch,” and “No Vanity Arch.”

The commission’s vote came after Thomas Luebke, its secretary, said nearly 1,000 public comments were submitted online and that “100% of the comments were against the project.”

Luebke said many of the comments characterized the project as “a waste of money and misuse of funds” and others said “that it would obstruct historic views and disrupt the landscape, it was inappropriate imperial or political symbolism, that the design was gaudy, oversized, incompatible, and that it was disrespectful to Arlington National Cemetery and military sacrifice.”

James McCrery, the commission’s vice chair and the initial architect behind Trump’s massive White House ballroom project, voiced a laundry list of concerns that he wants the architects of the arch to address.

McCrery opposed a planned 250-foot underground pathway for visitors to access the arch, saying building under the capital is “a really, really unfortunate thing.”

“Sometimes it’s absolutely necessary,” McCrery told Nicolas Charbonneau, the architect behind the arch. “Here, I think it’s not absolutely necessary at all.”

McCrery also took issue with proposed lion statues at the base of the arch, arguing they were not culturally American symbols.

“They’re not of this continent,” McCrery said. “They’re noble, they’re courageous, and they’re strong, they’re all those things, but maybe there are alternatives.”

And McCrery called on the architects to “open these arches and air them out” so they don’t obstruct views of other Washington landmarks.

Zachary Burt, the community outreach manager for the D.C. Preservation League, voiced his opposition to the arch during Thursday’s meeting.

Burt said the arch “threatens the solemn vista” between Arlington National Cemetery and the Lincoln Memorial and that its proposed size “risks overshadowing the revered landmarks that Americans hold in the highest regard.”

Lisa Fuller, who said she was a lifelong Washington-area resident, grew emotional recounting crossing Arlington Memorial Bridge as a kid as she argued the arch would obstruct views of the cemetery.

“I first walked across that bridge with my dad after John Kennedy died. We started at the Lincoln Memorial. My father told me all about it, and then we walked across, and we saw the Eternal Flame,” Fuller said.

While Aerosmith has been removed from the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster at Disney’s Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Florida, another Rock & Roll Hall of Fame band will be featured in the new attraction.

The new Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster starring The Muppets is set to open May 26, and it will feature a soundtrack that includes Def Leppard’s “Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop).”

The news was revealed in a post on Instagram, which featured Def Leppard’s Joe Elliott and Phil Collen talking to Electric Mayhem member Lips, who, somewhat incoherently, asks if Def Leppard would play with the Muppets band on the roller coaster.

“Yeah, we’d love to play with The Electric Mayhem,” says Collen, to which an excited Lips replies, “I didn’t think you’d say yeah, but you said yeah. That’s great. I love you man.”

As he walks away, Elliott asks, “What did we just agree to?”

According to Disney, in addition to “Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop),” the soundtrack to the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will include Electric Mayhem covers of Blur’s “Song 2”; Steppenwolf’s “Born to Be Wild,” featuring Camilla the Chicken; Ohio Players’ “Love Rollercoaster,” featuring Jennifer Hudson and Questlove; and Katrina and the Waves’ “Walking on Sunshine,” featuring Kelly Clarkson.

The new roller coaster will have guests go on a search for The Electric Mayhem, who go missing ahead of a gig headlining a big Hollywood concert. It will feature celebrity cameos from such stars as Neil Patrick Harris, John Stamos, blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, “Weird Al” Yankovic, Darren Criss and more.

If you were hoping Charli XCX’s next album would be Brat 2.0, you might be out of luck.

The singer tells British Vogue in a new cover story that her next offering will be a rock album.

One of the new songs on the currently unfinished record puts it bluntly, according to the magazine, with the lyrics: “I think the dance floor is dead/ so now we’re making rock music.”

After the success of Brat, Charli says making another dance-leaning album “would have felt really hard, really sad.” Instead she’s taking on the rock genre, but doing it her way — bending “the possibilities of what my perspective on that could be.”

“For me, it’s fun to flip the form,” she says. “We know there’s gonna be people who are bothered by it, but that’s fine.”

Charli’s last album was Wuthering Heights, released in February, which served as the soundtrack for Emerald Fennell’s film of the same name.

Céline has been teasing on her Instagram Story a collaboration with Jean-Jacques Goldman, the legendary French singer, songwriter and producer who helped make Céline a star by writing and producing two French albums for her. One of them, 1995’s D’eux aka The French Album, is still the most successful French-language LP in history. Goldman also co-wrote songs on her hit albums Falling Into You and Let’s Talk About Love.

On Thursday, the title of the song was revealed: “Dansons,” which translates to “Let’s dance.” You can hear a snippet on Apple Music now. The song’s in French, but the lyrics available translate to, “Let’s dance, above the abysses/ On the edges of the peaks/ and leave the low points behind.”

According to Le Parisien, Céline will release another new song before the summer and will debut a third song during the first concert of her residency at Paris La Défense Arena on Sept. 12. The publication claims that all these songs are leading up to Céline’s first album since 2019’s Courage.

Black Label Society’s new album, Engines of Demolition, concludes with a track titled “Ozzy’s Song,” dedicated to Zakk Wylde’s former boss, Ozzy Osbourne. The guitarist tells Revolver magazine about penning the tribute to the late Prince of Darkness.

“We laid Ozzy to rest, and then I flew back out and we played Jones Beach [Theater in Long Island, New York]. That was the first Pantera show after laying Ozzy to rest,” Wylde recalls. “I was having Ozzy flashbacks because the last time [Ozzy and I] played there it was raining and it was packed. I remember the first 30 rows, everybody was knee-high, thigh-high, in water … I’ll never forget that.”

“When the Pantera celebration run ended, I came home and sat in our library here at the house and I was looking at one of Ozzy’s books that we have,” he continues. “I was just looking at him, and I listened to the tune, and I wrote the lyrics right there.”

According to Wylde, it was his girlfriend who named the track: “We’d keep listening to it in the truck. And every time, [she] would say, ‘Babe, put on Ozzy’s song again.’ She just kept referencing it as ‘Ozzy’s Song.'”

“So, I was like, ‘I’m just going to call it “Ozzy’s Song” because that’s what it is,’” he notes. “Obviously, we had to end the record like this — [it had to] be the last song.”

The song’s video includes footage and photos of Ozzy thought the years. “People like Ozzy, these iconic figures, become part of everybody’s life,” Wylde notes.

“Ozzy was such a huge part of so many people’s lives and touched them in a positive way,” he adds. “That’s what made Ozzy so special.”
