Tyrese says Rihanna should play his girlfriend & Denzel his daddy in upcoming ‘FF’ sequels

Giles Keyte/Universal Pictures

It’s all about the family, right? Well, Fast & Furious franchise star Tyrese Gibson is taking the film’s tagline to heart by offering his ideas on who should play his character Roman’s real-life “family” in the upcoming FF sequels.

“Roman needs a girlfriend — so I’ve put it out there that Rihanna would be perfect for Roman,” Gibson tells ABC Audio. “She a bad girl, a lot of attitude, a lot of swag…Just seeing her standing next to Michelle Rodriguez, Jordana Brewster and Charlize Theron, like… I feel like she would fall right in to the swag and the bad girl energy that’s happening with these other female leads.”

Of course, outside of Rihanna, Gibson says another amazing catch would be getting Oscar-winner Denzel Washington to play his father.

“Denzel Washington would be perfect,” Tyrese says, noting that Washington is also a “fellow Capricorn [and] super intense.”

“[But he] would probably look at this franchise and be like, “‘Nah, I’m cool… I make real movies.'”

However, Gibson assures that he wouldn’t let Washington off that easy without a fight.

“‘Denzel, come on, have a little fun,” he continues. “We got Oscar award winners in this franchise, too. We got the Helen [Mirren]s and Charlize Theron, who’s won an Oscar. And they take their acting very serious[ly] and they’re very intense.’ I think it would be amazing to see a Denzel Washington come in and have a little fun with us.”

Oh, and if that wasn’t enough for FF fans, let’s not forget Matt Damon. He’s family, too.

“But I also have been saying that Matt Damon would be ideal because he’s a part of the Bourne franchise, which is also a Universal Studios movie,” Gibson adds.

Makes perfect sense.

Dierks Bentley’s Seven Peaks Festival 2021 is cancelled due to local capacity restrictions

ABC/Chris Hollo

Just weeks after announcing the lineup for his 2021 Seven Peaks Festival, Dierks Bentley has had to cancel this year’s event. The change comes as a result of capacity restrictions from local health officials in Chaffee County, where the Buena Vista, Colorado festival was scheduled to take place.

“I am so sorry to announce that we are going to have to cancel 7P for this year. I really could not be more bummed about it,” explained Dierks on social media.

“It cannot be overstated how much time, thought, effort and energy has gone into gearing up for the festival this year,” Dierks continued, going on to thank his team members, the artists who signed on to play the event and the fans who bought tickets. “Together we built something really special and it’s going to be a big celebration when our 7P family is together again. We will be back!”

2021 passes that have been purchased will be automatically refunded within 30 days. Also, a post from the festival indicates that a new location for 2022 will be announced in the months ahead.

Per a tweet from Denver-based reporter Marshall Zelinger, 6,000 tickets to Seven Peaks Festival were sold before the event obtained its permit from Chaffee County. Local guidelines from the county currently cap outdoor events at 5,000 people due to COVID-19 protocol.

Keith Urban had previously been announced as a headliner for Seven Peaks, on a bill also including acts such as Kip Moore, Travis Denning and Ingrid Andress.

Listen to Thom Yorke’s “Very 2021” remix of Radiohead’s “Creep”

Credit: Jun Takahashi

Thom Yorke is giving Radiohead‘s “Creep” a makeover for the times.

The newly released, nine-minute “Very 2021” remix of the alt-rock staple slows the tempo considerably, while also adding electronic elements and vocal effects to make the song even more, well, creepy. You can download it now via digital outlets.

Yorke had recorded the “Very 2021” remix of “Creep” earlier this year for designer Jun Takahashi‘s new clothing collection. Takahashi also created the artwork for the remix’s cover.

The original “Creep,” of course, was the breakout single off Radiohead’s 1993 debut album, Pablo Honey.

Drake Bell sings with son on Instagram after sentencing for child endangerment case

Michael Tran/Getty Images

Drake Bell is spending some quality time with his son after being sentenced Monday to two years probation and 200 hours of community service for improper conduct with an underage girl.

Shortly after the virtual sentencing, the 35-year-old former star of Nickelodeon’s Drake & Josh went on Instagram Live and played the piano and sang while his son sat on his lap, ETOnline reports.

“Father Son jam sesh,” he captioned the video, which appears to have been deleted.

Bell, whose birth name is Jared Drake Bell, was indicted in May on charges stemming from an interaction with a then-15-year-old girl in December of 2017. He initially entered a not guilty plea before deciding to take a deal, pleading guilty to attempted endangering children, a fourth-degree felony, and disseminating matter harmful to juveniles, a first-degree misdemeanor.

Following Monday’s sentencing, Bell’s attorney’s issued a statement on his behalf.

“Today’s plea and sentence reflect conduct for which Mr. Bell did accept responsibility,” the statement reads. “The victim’s allegations that went beyond that which all parties agreed, not only lack supporting evidence but are contradicted by the facts learned through extensive investigation. As the court made clear, this plea was never about sexual misconduct or sexual relations with any person, let alone a minor. Sexual registration was not imposed as Mr. Bell did not plead guilty to any such offense.”

The statement concludes, “Drake and his family are relieved and grateful to have this matter behind them. He looks forward to, once again, performing for all his supportive fans around the world.”

COVID-19 outbreak tied to weeklong church retreat

Google Maps

(DAYTON, Ohio) — A COVID-19 outbreak has been reported among attendees of a church retreat, officials announced.

At least 30 positive cases have been identified so far in people who took part in the weeklong event, health officials confirmed.

Dayton and Montgomery County Public Health said more than 800 people attended the Baptist Church retreat at Camp Chautauqua in Miamisburg, Ohio, from June 27 to July 3. Visitors came to the event from churches across Ohio, Kentucky, Illinois and Indiana.

Dr. Michael Dohn, medical director for Dayton & Montgomery County Public Health, spoke out about his concern, stating: “Unvaccinated people, including children under 12 years of age, are up to 100 times more likely to get sick after exposure to COVID-19 compared to fully vaccinated individuals.”

Dohn added: “the outbreak demonstrates that the COVID-19 virus is still circulating and continues to make people sick.”

The positive cases were so far identified in attendees from Ohio and Kentucky.

One person tested positive for COVID-19 during the final days of the retreat and was “immediately quarantined off campus,” Jason Harmeyer, President of the Chautauqua Camp and Conference Center said in a statement. Event organizers then proceeded to monitor individuals associated with that group for symptoms and conducted regular temperature checks.

Health officials investigating the outbreak said camp and event organizers had failed to provide contact information for attendees after the initial cases were recognized, so authorities were asking anyone who may have attended the retreat to contact them or their local health department.

The camp organizer said it was in regular contact with group leaders to take necessary precautions.

It is unknown how many attendees had received COVID-19 vaccinations.

Beach vacation? Selena Gomez has you covered

Kevin Mazur/Getty Images for Global Citizen VAX LIVE

Selena Gomez is a lot of things — an actress, singer, beauty mogul — and now she can add designer to the list with the launch of her swimwear collection with La’Mariette.

The 28-year-old “Lose You To Love” singer recently dropped a six-style swimsuit collection with the brand after being approached by its founders, Theresa Mingus and Morgan Brutocao, OK! Magazine reports.

Speaking about the design process, Selena explained, “I wanted to stay away from colors I’m used to, like red and white,” before sharing that she landed on purple.

“Purple felt different for me,” she said. “And we added pops of color like green and neons here and there; it really becomes your own suit, however you wear it.”

The tie-dye print they came up with, called “Aura,” is featured on all six pieces of Selena’s collection, which includes a cross-back one-piece, a wrap halter top, a bralette top, a sarong and two different bottoms.

“The Aura print is inspired by Selena, her aura shines through in everything she does and we want everyone else to feel that sort of transformative feeling of being their most authentic self,” said Brutocao. “Selena’s confidence is unmatched and being able to design a print with her which embodies that is so rewarding.”

The collection is available exclusively on la-mariette.com. Prices range from $49 to $119.

First lady Jill Biden to travel to Tokyo for Olympics opening ceremony

Official White House Photo by Cameron Smith

(WASHINGTON) — First lady Jill Biden will attend the opening ceremony of the Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan, which will be held on July 23, according to the office of the first lady.

The Summer Olympics were supposed to kick off in Japan’s capital last year on July 24 but were postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic and are now scheduled to take place from July 23 to Aug. 8. Despite the year delay, COVID-19 continues to rip through the country, mudding up the games with controversy and calls to cancel.

To address some of those concerns, organizers unveiled a series of “playbooks” with new rules and guidelines for how they plan to hold safe and successful Games in Tokyo this summer amid the pandemic. The rules include spectator gaps, a ban on cheering, mandatory COVID-19 testing and more.

Asked last month whether the first lady would attend, President Joe Biden said, “That’s the plan.”

“Well, we’re trying to work that out now,” he told White House reporters as he departed for a trip to Wisconsin. “That’s the plan.”

Eli Roth calls the shark conservation documentary ‘Fin’ the “scariest movie” he’s ever made

Photo: Joe Romeiro/Discovery+

Eli Roth is known for his horror films like Hostel and Knock Knock, but he tells ABC Audio the “scariest” film he’s ever done is the new documentary Fin

Co-produced by Leonardo DiCaprio and released today as part of Discovery’s Shark Week, Fin took Roth behind the scenes of the environmentally disastrous commercial shark fishing industry.

The documentary maintains that 100,000,000 sharks are slaughtered every year, for use in products from shark fin soup to lipstick. “I didn’t want to be another kind of Hollywood person with a cause,” he insists to ABC Audio. “I just couldn’t believe what was happening.”

He explains it was, “a chance for me to make the scariest movie I’ve ever made because it’s real…you don’t even have to try and make it scary,” Roth insists. “You just have to show what’s happening.”

Roth found that out straightaway, in a scene reminiscent of one his most famous characters, who dispatched Nazis with a baseball bat. “When I got out on the sea the first day of shooting, they killed a Mako shark with a bat. I thought, ‘Wow, this is crazy because I’m so known for that scene in Inglourious Basterds and now I’m watching a shark get beaten to death with a bat…”

A swim with sharks to confront his fears changed his life. “You’re coming from this place of ‘This thing wants to eat me,’ to, ‘Oh, my God, this thing reminds me of my dog.”

The movie fan says, “You know, the most famous horror film of all time is Jaws. And it’s certainly time to show the other side. And I really wanted to make a film that just put into context just how necessary sharks are and how what we’re doing to them is so completely insane.”

Roth urges those who want to seek an end to the global shark trade to visit FinTheMovie.com, where they can find information to contact their representatives in government.
