Former President Donald Trump famously lived on Fifth Avenue in New York and Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington, D.C., but he may have to stay away from “Electric Avenue.”

Trump has until the end of the day to respond to a copyright lawsuit brought by Eddy Grant, the British-Guyanese singer/songwriter who wrote and recorded the 1983 hit “Electric Avenue.”

Grant sued over alleged unauthorized use of the song in an animated video created by a third party during the 2020 campaign and posted by former President Trump on his personal Twitter account. The 55-second video endorsed Trump’s reelection and “sought to denigrate the Democratic Party’s 2020 presidential nominee, now-President Joseph R. Biden,” court records said.

Trump unsuccessfully sought to dismiss Grant’s claim, making a fair use argument, but a federal judge in New York would not allow it.

“The defendants concede that the video here is clearly satire, not a parody of Electric Avenue or Grant, and the defendants have offered no justification for their extensive borrowing,” Judge John Koeltl wrote.

The judge later set October 18 as the date the former president’s answer is due.

“Electric Avenue” spent five weeks at #2 on Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart, and was certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.

(NOTE CONTENT) ABC News has confirmed that Oscar-winning actor Cuba Gooding Jr. will stand trial in New York City on February 1 in connection with forcible touching and sexual abuse charges.

A judge set Gooding’s trial date Monday in connection with charges that the actor groped women in Manhattan bars or nightclubs in 2018 and 2019,

In October 2018, Gooding allegedly pinched the buttocks of a woman in the TAO downtown nightclub on 9th Avenue. When confronted, he claimed he had only touched her back.

In June 2019, Gooding allegedly made a sexually suggestive remark to a woman at the Magic Hour Rooftop Bar inside the Moxy Hotel on 7th Avenue. He then put his hand on the woman’s left breast and squeezed it without her consent, court records show. The alleged victim had sat down at the bar where Gooding was with Claudine De NiroRobert De Niro‘s ex-daughter-in-law. Prosecutors said the encounter was caught on video.

Gooding was formally charged with misdemeanor forcible touching at the NYPD’s 25th Precinct in Harlem, New York, in 2019, and later indicted. He subsequently pleaded not guilty to one misdemeanor count each of forcible touching and sexual abuse in the third degree.

Attorneys for the Jerry Maguire star had unsuccessfully sought to dismiss the case.

One member of BTS has put a new spin on “My Universe,” the group’s collaboration with Coldplay

Suga has created a remix of the track, which according to Coldplay’s record label came about “following a conversation over lunch when the two groups met up in New York recently.”  A lyric video for the remix is also available.

“I’m thrilled to be able to work together with Coldplay, who I’ve admired since I was a kid, and honored to be a part of this remix,” says Suga in a statement.  The original version of the song hit number-one on the Billboard Hot 100.

Coldplay wrote on Twitter, “We’re so grateful to SUGA for this glorious remix. A BRILLIANT producer on top of everything else.”

In other BTS news, their label, BIG HIT Music, has put out a global call for guys to audition to be the next K-Pop superstar. Any male born after 2002 is eligible, and you have until December 20th to apply.

You can apply to be a singer, rapper, dancer or producer, and BTS themselves have made a video encouraging you to participate and a second video explaining the application process.

“I can say this could be a turning point in your life,” Suga says in the first video. “So I highly recommend you to not be hesitant to apply! It’s more about showing how much you love music and your dream, rather than being good at it.”

Two of new York City’s legendary rappers, Big Daddy Kane and KRS-One, went one on one Sunday night during the Verzuz battle in NYC.

Fat Joe hosted the 20-round event at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, which kicked off with Big Daddy delivering “Just Rhymin” from his 1988 album, Long Live the Kane.

KRS fired back from the same year with the Boogie Down Productions cut, “I’m Still No. 1.” He continued with “The MC,” “Jack of Spades,” “Outta Here,” “9MM Goes Bang,” “MCs Act Like They Don’t Know” and many more.

Kane blazed through a set list including “Smooth Operator,” “Pimpin’ Ain’t Easy,” “Set It Off,” “Mortal Combat” and “Raw.”

With DJ Scratch backing Kane on the 1s and 2s, and Kid Capri rocking the turntables for KRS, the event included guest appearances by Roxanne Shanté, Masta Ace and Craig G, Das EFX, Mad Lion, Buckshot, and Kool DJ Red Alert. There was also a dance battle between legendary breakers Crazy Legs and Pop Master.

Triller announced there will be a limited commemorative NFT bundle of the ten best all-time Verzuz battle moments, according to Billboard.

“What Swizz [Beatz] and Timbaland have built with Verzuz is an entirely new form of entertainment, one that continues to grow and excite audiences literally around the world,” said Bobby Sarnevesht, co-controlling shareholder of TrillerNet.

“We wanted a way for our fans to be able to own a piece of Verzuz for themselves and tapping into the unique ownability and collectability of NFTs seemed like the perfect way to do that,” he added. “This is the beginning of many exciting Verzuz NFT drops.”

The first Verzuz NFT collectibles will be available for $199 at TrillerNfts.com.

New documentary ‘Listening to Kenny G’ coming to HBO in December

Why do some people hate Kenny G‘s music?  That’s the question that a new HBO documentary aims to explore.

The film, titled Listening to Kenny G, follows the saxophonist — the best-selling instrumentalist of all time globally — as he works on his first album in seven years.  It also examines his career through archival footage and interviews with fans, critics, record executives and radio personalities.

But according to a press statement, because Kenny G is “arguably the most famous living jazz musician,” the movie is really “about why that makes certain people so mad.”  It’s described as a look at “how our artistic tastes shape our personal identities and signal our social belonging.”

Of course, Kenny G isn’t as square as some people make him out to be.  The Weeknd tapped him to play on the remix of his song “In Your Eyes,” and Kanye West famously hired him to serenade the rapper’s soon-to-be-ex-wife, Kim Kardashian, and also had him play on his number-one gospel album, Jesus Is King.

What’s more, Kenny made a cameo in a Katy Perry video, appeared in a Super Bowl commercial, and performed with Foster the People on SNL.  He’s also one of only five artists to have appeared in the Billboard top 40 in every decade from 1980 to 2010.

Listening to Kenny G premieres on HBO on December 3.  It’s part of HBO’s Music Box film series, which includes the Alanis Morissette documentary Jagged, the Woodstock ’99 documentary Peace, Love & Rage, docs about the late rappers DMX and Juice WRLD, and a profile of Robert Stigwood, the entertainment tycoon who managed the Bee Gees, made John Travolta a movie star and gave us Grease and Saturday Night Fever.

Last year, Harry Styles made history when he became the first male to cover Vogue solo — and he did it while wearing a dress. While many called it a groundbreaking moment, Pose actor Billy Porter said he was disappointed by the choice.

In an interview with The Sunday Times, Porter said he doesn’t feel completely accepted by the fashion industry, despite his many contributions.

“I created the conversation [about non-binary fashion] and yet Vogue still put Harry Styles, a straight white man, in a dress on their cover for the first time,” he said.

“I’m not dragging Harry Styles, but he is the one you’re going to try and use to represent this new conversation?” the 52-year-old Emmy winner continued. “He doesn’t care, he’s just doing it because it’s the thing to do.”

“This is politics for me,” Porter added. “This is my life. I had to fight my entire life to get to the place where I could wear a dress to the Oscars and not be gunned now. All he has to do is be white and straight.”

Porter famously wore a Christian Siriano tuxedo gown to the 2019 Oscars. His new memoir, Unprotected, is out Tuesday.

Foo Fighters will enter the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with the blessing of a Beatle.

The legendary Paul McCartney will usher Dave Grohl and company into the museum during its upcoming 2021 Induction Ceremony, held in Cleveland on October 30.

McCartney and The Beatles, of course, have been big influences on Grohl and the Foos. Sir Paul is even featured on the Foos’ 2017 album, Concrete and Gold.

When Grohl entered the Rock Hall in 2014 alongside Nirvana, R.E.M.‘s Michael Stipe did the inducting honors.

Other announced presenters include Taylor Swift, Drew Barrymore and Angela Bassett, who will induct Carole King, The Go-Go’s and Tina Turner, respectively. Additionally, Lionel Richie will induct music executive Clarence Avant as a recipient of the Ahmet Ertegun Award.

Presenters for Todd Rundgren and JAY-Z — the other inductees in the main Performers category — have not yet been announced.

Other inductees this year include Kraftwerk, Charley Patton and Gil Scott-Heron for Early Influence, and LL Cool J, Billy Preston and Randy Rhoads for Musical Excellence.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will air November 20 on HBO and stream on HBO Max.
