George Thorogood and the Destroyers releasing compilation of band’s original songs in April

George Thorogood and the Destroyers are known for recording memorable versions of other artists’ tunes, but frontman George Thorogood has written plenty of memorable songs as well. It’s those originals that are the focus of a new compilation titled, aptly, The Original George Thorogood, that’s due out April 15.

The album, which you can pre-order now, will be available on CD, via digital formats, and as a two-LP vinyl set, including a standard black-vinyl version and a limited-edition translucent-orange-vinyl collection.

The CD and digital versions of The Original George Thorogood feature 14 tracks, while the vinyl editions boast 11 songs. All versions include such classic Thorogood tunes as “Bad to the Bone,” “I Drink Alone,” “Born to Be Bad,” “If You Don’t Start Drinkin’ (I’m Gonna Leave)” and “You Talk Too Much,” as well as the previously unreleased track “Back in the U.S.A.”

“It’s easy to write a song, difficult to write a good song, and even harder to write a great song,” says Thorogood. “It strikes home that I have the ability to write some pretty great songs, and there’s a real sense of achievement to that.”

George adds about the compilation, “We’ve been playing a lot of these songs for a long time, and some haven’t been performed live at all. I hope fans are surprised by the ones they’ve never heard before.”

This year, Thorogood and the Destroyers launched the Good to Be Bad: 45 Years of Rock Tour, which resumes on April 29 in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin. The band also will be supporting Sammy Hagar & the Circle on the Crazy Times! trek, which includes a variety of dates in June, August and September. “The whole country is being called to go to war”: Maksim Chmerkovskiy gives new updates from Ukraine

A day after his first dispatch from his native Ukraine, currently under invasion by Russian military forces, Dancing with the Stars veteran Maksim Chmerkovskiy has updated his followers on his latest experiences.

While the 42-year-old states he’s “not reporting the news” as a journalist, he posted two Instagram videos, detailing the “dire” things he’s been seeing.

In the first video, Maks noted, “I’m going to do my best to stay as safe as possible.” He explained he’s heard the way to the border “is quite dangerous,” so he’s staying put, declaring, “We haven’t been told to move, and I’m just following instructions. That’s all I can say.”

He added grimly in the second video, “the reality is that I’m also talking to my friends that are here, the Ukrainians, and the situation is pretty dire.”

Maks noted that the civilians in the country “are being mobilized,” explaining, “the whole country is being called to go to war. Men, women, boys …. These people who were…judging dance competitions several days ago…are going forward and…getting guns and getting deployed to defend the country.”

His fellow Ukrainians, “are very aggressively charged,” Chmerkovskiy said, admitting he knows he isn’t “representing everybody” in the country with his messages.

“If it’s not resolved in a peaceful manner in some way or form in the next day or so, or two, I think it’s gonna take a turn for very, very much more aggressive actions and a lot more casualties,” Maks said. “There are kids that are getting sick, people are sheltering and people that aren’t able to just get up and run, right? Small children, elderly people. This is like it is in every conflict, I’m just drawing attention to the fact that this is what’s happening.”

Nick Lachey teases Love Is Blind finale: “It’s a big moment. It’s a crazy moment. It’s a chaotic moment”

Fans of the emotional rollercoaster known as Love Is Blind should buckle up for the season two finale. Host Nick Lachey says he knows why people are going nuts over the popular dating show, in which contestants have to build emotional connections without knowing what the other looks like.

Nick tells ABC Audio the “fun experiment” of Love Is Blind “allows people to get to know that other person on the most basic level, get to know who they are, what makes them feel the way they do [and] what makes them tick.”

“I think that people, especially in today’s society with dating apps and all the superficiality of your profile pic, people have forgotten what that can be [like]… We’ve all kind of fell into this trap of superficiality,” the 98 Degrees singer suggested, adding that such mentality creates “unfair expectations [and] unfair judgments that are made on both sides of the fence.”

“Love and attraction for someone for who they are on the inside is incredibly meaningful and incredibly powerful,” Nick continued, which he calls an “important dynamic” of any relationship. “I think this show has brought it back to the forefront that you can have a true emotional connection with someone and fall in love with who they are without even seeing them!”

Nick promises plenty of drama when the couples finally meet face-to-face in the finale and must decide if they want to get married. “You will be equally shocked and surprised,” he teased. “It’s a big moment. It’s a crazy moment. It’s a chaotic moment. For some, it’s very it’s an easy decision. For others, it’s painfully, painfully tough.”

AWOLNATION reveals full covers album track list & guests, featuring Tim McIlrath, Beck, Jewel & more

AWOLNATION has revealed the full details of the band’s upcoming covers album, My Echo, My Shadow, My Covers and Me.

Among the songs the “Sail” outfit will be tackling on the record include ABBA‘s “Take a Chance on Me,” Madonna‘s “Material Girl,” Biz Markie‘s “Just a Friend” and Harvey Danger‘s “Flagpole Sitta.” Aaron Bruno and company will also be accompanied by a number of special guests, such as Rise Against‘s Tim McIlrath, Beck, Jewel, Grouplove, Hyro the Hero, Hanson‘s Taylor Hanson and Nothing but Thieves‘ Conor Mason.

The collaboration with McIlrath, a cover of the Midnight Oil song “Beds Are Burning,” is out today via digital outlets. An accompanying video is streaming now on YouTube.

My Echo, My Shadow, My Covers and Me will be released May 6. It also includes AWOL’s previously released cover of the Scorpions hit “Wind of Change,” featuring Incubus‘ Brandon Boyd and Portugal. The Man.

IOC urges sports federations to move or cancel events in Russia, Belarus

(NEW YORK) — The International Olympic Committee on Friday urged sports federations across the globe to move or cancel any events they were planning to hold in Russia or Belarus.

The move comes a day after Russia breached the Olympic Truce by invading Ukraine. Belarus also violated the truce by supporting the Russian government.

The IOC also urged sports bodies to not display the Russian or Belarussian flag and to not play either country’s anthem at events.

“The IOC [Executive Board] expresses its deep concerns about the safety of the members of the Olympic Community in Ukraine and stands in full solidarity,” it said in a statement. “It notes that the special IOC task force is in contact with the Olympic Community in the country to coordinate humanitarian assistance where possible.”

Corey Taylor covers Red Rider, KISS, Eddie Money & more on new ’CMFB…Sides’ EP

Slipknot‘s Corey Taylor has released his new EP CMFB…Sides, a collection of acoustic tracks, live recordings and covers to follow his 2020 solo debut album, CMFT.

Among songs Taylor chose to put his spin on for the EP include Red Rider‘s “Lunatic Fringe,” KISS‘ “Got to Choose,” Eddie Money‘s “Shakin'” and Dead Boys‘ “All This and More.” The “Lunatic Fringe” cover is accompanied by a lyric video, which is streaming now on YouTube.

CMFB…Sides also includes Taylor’s previously released cover of “On the Dark Side,” originally recorded by John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band for the 1983 film Eddie and the Cruisers, and his Metallica Blacklist rendition of “Holier Than Thou.”

Next month, Taylor and Slipknot will resume their Knotfest Roadshow tour, beginning March 16 in Fargo, North Dakota. The masked metallers have also been teasing a new album to be released later this year.

Jon Pardi is riding out for his summer 2022 Ain’t Always the Cowboy Tour

Just days after dropping his new single, “Last Night Lonely,” Jon Pardi has announced a summer tour.

Jon’s Ain’t Always the Cowboy Tour begins in July, he revealed via American Songwriter this week.

The string of dates both opens and closes with a hometown connection. Jon’s first stop, in late July, is in Sacramento, California — the same state in which he grew up. He’ll end the tour with a performance at Ascend Amphitheater in his adopted home city of Nashville.

Joining Pardi on tour will be up-and-coming acts Lainey Wilson and Hailey Whitters. Lainey’s one of Nashville’s fastest-rising stars, who earned her first number-one in 2021 with “Things a Man Oughta Know.” Meanwhile, Hailey just announced a new album, Raised, which is due out in March.

With “Last Night Lonely” already out in the world, Jon’s gearing up for a new album cycle himself, though he doesn’t have an exact release date to share just yet. Per American Songwriter, he’s hoping for a fall 2022 release date.

As her new album arrives, Avril Lavigne is “still having so much fun”

Avril Lavigne‘s eagerly awaited new album, Love Sux, is out today, featuring guest appearances and production work from blackbear, Blink-182’s Travis Barker and Mark Hoppus, her boyfriend Mod Sun, and Machine Gun Kelly. Now in her 20th year as a recording artist, the Canadian star says she’s still enjoying that pop-punk life.

Appearing on ABC’s Good Morning America, Avril said of being two decades past the release of her 2002 debut album, Let Go, “I feel like it’s gone by so fast but I’m really grateful to still be here and making music. This is my seventh record and I’m still having so much fun, and I’m looking forward to going out on tour this year.”

Avril was also asked about young female artists like Billie Eilish and Olivia Rodrigo citing her as an inspiration.

“Oh my God, it’s so crazy to hear that,” Avril told GMA. “I mean, those ladies are incredible songwriters and performers and I’ve met both of them. They’re lovely and I love what they’re dong musically.”

The first leg of Avril’s tour starts in Canada in May 3 and wraps up May 27 at the Boston Calling Festival. In September, she’ll perform at the Firefly Festival in Delaware and in October, she’ll appear at the the all-emo and pop-punk festival When We Were Young in Las Vegas. She gave the GMA audience a taste of her tour by performing her latest single, “Love It When You Hate Me.”

Here’s what it would sound like if Billie Eilish wrote music for a boy band.

As previously reported, the “Happier Than Ever” artists and her brother/collaborator, FINNEAS, are contributing original songs to the upcoming Disney/Pixar film Turning Red. Eilish won’t be performing the songs, however — that duty belongs to 4*Town, a fictional boy band that’s the obsession of Turning Red‘s teenage protagonist, Mei.

Now, one of 4*Town songs Eilish and FINNEAS wrote for the film, called “Nobody Like U,” has been released. The track is available via digital outlets, and you can watch its accompanying lyric streaming on YouTube.

Turning Red follows Mei, a 13-year-old girl who spontaneously transforms into a giant red panda whenever she feels strong emotions. The film premieres on Disney+ March 11, and its soundtrack, which includes “Nobody Like U” and two other 4*Town songs, drops that same day.

Disney is the parent company of ABC News.

Twisted Sister’s Dee Snider pays tribute to Station nightclub fire victims in new video for solo song “Stand”

Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider pays tribute to the victims of tragic 2003 Station nightclub fire in a brand-new music video for his recent solo song, “Stand,” which got its premiere today at the Napalm Records label’s YouTube channel.

The clip features Snider and his solo band performing the song along with footage from a new documentary titled America’s Deadliest Rock Concert: The Guest List, which debuted last Sunday on the Reelz channel. Dee was interviewed for the doc, and the video begins with a clip of him saying of the tragedy, “Nobody deserves to die because they wanted to see a band.”

The fire took place during a Great White show at Warwick, Rhode Island, club on February 20, 2003. One hundred people died in the horrifying incident, and over 200 were injured.

“While I didn’t write ‘Stand’ for the Station nightclub fire documentary America’s Deadliest Rock Concert: The Guest List, it is a perfect fit,” Snider says. “The full tragedy of that horrific night was the despicable lack of support shown for a community in desperate need. ‘Stand’ speaks to the importance for us all to recognize these moments of desperation and do something about them. ‘Don’t leave your mark…leave a scar!'”

Dee adds, “This documentary not only serves as a reminder of this incredible tragedy, but it shines a light on an amazing group of people who overcame unfathomable loss, and survived, even thrived in the aftermath.”

Snider had performed at the Station, and after the fire he helped bring fellow music artists together for a charity concert to aid the survivors and victims’ families.

The documentary will air again on Reelz this Sunday, February 27, at 3 p.m. ET.

“Stand” is featured on Snider’s 2021 album Leave a Scar.
