Kel Mitchell and Lori Beth Denberg muse over possible gritty reboot of ‘Good Burger’ at 90s Con

Kel Mitchell knows that reboots are hot right now and is wondering what that means for Good Burger.

ABC Audio caught up with the comedian recently at 90s Con in Hartford, Connecticut, and discussed a modern remake of the beloved 1997 film. If Mitchell had it his way, he’d want a darker re-imagining.

Citing the grittier versions of Fresh Prince of Bel Air and the Archie comics, he remarked, “A darker version of Good Burger will be very interesting. I would love to see that.” He took note of the Fresh Prince reboot, Bel-Air, commenting, “That was really, really, really deep. They showed a dramatic side. So a dramatic side of Good Burger would be funny.”

Mitchell flirted with the possibility of bringing on horror master Jordan Peele to put a twisted spin on the Nickelodeon film, saying, “That would be great! A Jordan Peele Good Burger? I love it.”

The 43-year-old actor said he and his co-star Keenan Thompson “always talked about” doing a reboot, but admitted that they don’t have any say whether or not a dark version of the comedy will ever come to be. “It’s in the fans hands,” he explained. “Hit up Paramount!…Let them know.”

Lori Beth Denberg, another Good Burger alum, agreed that a reboot is overdue, and proposed a project focusing on the son of Mitchell’s character, Ed.

When asked about the idea of the show taking a more sinister route, Denberg mused over the possibility of her character, Connie, being not-so-nice. “If it’s very dark, maybe I’d be mysterious and in the shadows, but you’d still know it’s me because of my crazy voice,” she posed. “Maybe I murdered someone. Or maybe I didn’t! We’ll have to see.”

Good Burger is now streaming on Netflix.

Normani says “Fair” was a therapeutic song for her: “I’m so proud of how it was written”

Normani bares her soul on her new track, “Fair,” which she says captures a vulnerability never before seen in her music.

Speaking to Apple Music’s Zane Lowe, the former Fifth Harmony singer explained, “I always told myself that I owed it to me to put out something that I really believe in.” Citing her start in the music industry, Normani says “Fair” is “scary, but freeing,” because “This is me being vulnerable, and really captures a true and raw point in my experience that I wanted to share.”

“Fair” is about the pain of watching an old love moving on and struggling to do the same. Normani said the track “captured me in the moment as I was experiencing. In real time. I was going through it emotionally that, that day, I wasn’t sure if I could even really pick myself up to go to the studio.”

Normani is thankful she made it to the recording booth. “It’s therapy for me,” she elaborated, because the song was “written by all females.” The “Dancing with a Stranger” singer says she was able to share her heartache with a larger community: “We really all went through the same experience. So it was a lot easier for the lyrics to just come out. It was like floodgates. I’m so proud of how it was written.”

Normani is also proud of her journey, and reflected on starting in the industry when she was 15, where all her mistakes were magnified because she was in the spotlight. She said that taught her, “Not everybody you’re going to please, but you’re good.”

“Like I said, 15 versus 25, I needed to go through some stuff to give the most authentic version of myself, which my fans deserve, but I deserve,” she said.

Neil Young’s issuing fourth volume of his ‘Official Release Series’ box sets, featuring four 1980s releases

Neil Young has unveiled plans to issue the fourth installment of his Official Release Series (ORS), a four-disc box set featuring three of his 1980s studio albums, plus the rare Eldorado EP, on April 29.

The ORS #4 collection, which can be pre-ordered now, will be available in both CD and vinyl formats. It features 1980’s folk- and country-influenced Hawks & Doves, 1981’s hard-rocking Crazy Horse collaboration Re•ac•tor, 1988’s foray into big-band blues This Note’s for You, and the aforementioned Eldorado, a five-track EP from 1989 that previously was only released in Japan and Australia.

Eldorado includes two songs, “Cocaine Eyes” and “Heavy Love,” that have never appeared on any other album. If you pre-order the box set, you receive an immediate download of “Cocaine Eyes.” The track also is available to purchase now as a digital single and via streaming services.

Hawks & Doves, Re•ac•tor and This Note’s for You reached $30, #27 and #61, respectively, on the Billboard 200. The Re•ac•tor song “Southern Pacific” peaked at #22 on Billboard‘s Top Rock Tracks tally, while This Note’s for You‘s title track and “Ten Workin’ Men” landed at #19 and #6 on the same chart.

The CD version of ORS #4 will be sold via all retailers, while the vinyl package will be available at independent record stores and at the Greedy Hand Store at Neil’s official website, NeilYoungArchives.com. All those who purchase ORS #4 box sets at the Greedy Hand Store will receive a free hi-res digital download of the collection from the Neil Young Archives’ Xstream Store.

Jennifer Lopez shows what it was like filming ’Marry Me’ at Madison Square Garden

Jennifer Lopez shared a behind-the-scenes look at one of the biggest moments of her current movie rom-com, Marry Me — the one when she returns to Bastian, played by Maluma, to perform their romantic ballad.

The video was shared Friday on her Facebook, which shows Jennifer walking into Madison Square Garden while the movie crew is hard at work giving the venue a movie makeover, from arranging flowing curtains to setting up the sparking backdrop. The clip shows just how much work was put into filming the brief, but impactful scene.

Other footage shows Jennifer rehearsing with Maluma on stage so they could get the shot just right. The “On the Floor” singer previously revealed Maluma was doing an actual concert at the venue when filming the movie and it was decided she would crash it to film Marry Me — so the audience in the movie was composed of real fans and not extras.

The scene was one of the movie’s climaxes, where Jennifer’s character, Kat, earns her first Grammy nomination and accepts the invite from her cheating ex, Bastian, to celebrate the honor at his concert in Madison Square Garden.

Marry Me, also starring Owen Wilson, arrives on DVD and Blu-ray on Tuesday, March 29. It is also streaming on Peacock premium, where it currently claims the title as the streaming service’s most-streamed day-and-date title.

Blink-182’s Travis Barker performing on Oscars

Travis Barker is taking a break from his many, many music projects to help celebrate Hollywood’s biggest night.

The Blink-182 drummer is set to perform during this year’s Oscars. He’ll be joined by a band that includes music director Adam Blackstone, percussionist and frequent Prince collaborator Sheila E., and pianist Robert Glasper.

We can only hope that Barker’s performance leads to a collaboration with Billie Eilish and Radiohead‘s Jonny Greenwood, who are nominated this year for the Best Original Song and Best Original Score Oscars, respectively.

The 2022 Oscars ceremony airs live Sunday, March 27, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

Eve shares sweet video of newborn son resting on her: “This is heaven”

Eve is over the moon about her newborn son, Wilde Wolf, whom she welcomed last month. In a new video clip posted on her Instagram Story on Friday, she shared a brand-new look at her baby and showed off just how smitten she is.

Using a filter that displayed multi-colored hearts that had “love” written in the middle, the “Let Me Blow Ya Mind” rapper filmed herself sitting while little Wilde is snoozing contentedly on her chest. “Wilde, my precious baby,” she coos over to the infant, who is fast asleep with his mouth wide open. “This is heaven. This is heaven right here!”

Eve, 43, previously announced the arrival of her newborn on Instagram, writing, “Our Beautiful boy was born Feb 1st 2022. Wilde Wolf Fife Alexander Somers Cooper. Words can’t describe this feeling.”

She shares Wilde with husband Maximillion Cooper.

Report: U2 television series being developed for Netflix by ‘Star Wars’ director J.J. Abrams

Star Wars films director J.J. Abrams and his Bad Robot Productions company are joining forces with Netflix to develop a scripted series about U2, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The as-yet-untitled show will be written by Anthony McCarten, whose credits include the screenplays of a string of successful biographical films, including the Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody, plus Darkest Hour, The Theory of Everything and The Two Popes. He received Oscar nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay for the latter two.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, U2 is expected to sanction the new series and to be involved in the production, which reportedly is in the early stages of development.

Most details about the show are currently being kept secret.

U2, of course, are probably the most famous rock band ever to emerge from Ireland. The group formed in Dublin in 1976, when all four members — singer Bono, guitarist The Edge, drummer Larry Mullin Jr. and bassist Adam Clayton — were all in high school. The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2005, and continue to be among the most popular touring acts in the world.

James Taylor announces 2022 US summer tour

If it’s summer, then there’s gotta be a James Taylor tour.

From April to May, Taylor and his All-Star Band will be on tour in Canada with special guest Jackson Browne, but he’s just announced 20 new U.S. summer shows that will simply be “An Evening With” James and the band.

The shows kick off June 21 in Columbia, South Carolina, and are scheduled to wrap up July 30 in Las Vegas. On August 20, James will be a special guest for famed Lenox, Massachusetts, venue Tanglewood’s 90th Birthday Celebration of legendary film composer John Williams, along with Branford Marsalis and Yo-Yo Ma.

Krysten Ritter calls herself the newest “Disney princess” now that ‘Jessica Jones’ is on Disney+

Count Krysten Ritter as one of the fans who are psyched that Netflix’s Marvel shows are now available on Disney+.

Ritter, who played the titular heroine Jessica Jones, posted to Instagram a photo of herself in costume, noting, “Guess who’s a Disney princess now?” along with a winky, and the “bicep flex” emoji.

She also reminded her 1.4 million followers to “(re)watch” her character’s adventures “now streaming on her new home.”

Ritter became a fan favorite for playing Jones, who was blessed/cursed with super-strength by a shadowy organization’s experimentation on her. Jones for the most part tries to hide her powers — although as the series shows, they come in handy during her day job as a private eye. The series won acclaim for its frank portrayal of weighty topics like addiction and sexual abuse, and Ritter’s portrayal of the hard-drinking, no-nonsense character.

The well-reviewed Jessica Jones ran for three seasons on Netflix, ending in 2015 as part of a move to consolidate all Marvel content under the Marvel Studios umbrella. Ritter told ABC Audio the character was the “role of a lifetime” for her, and one she’d be willing to revisit.

Federal government to direct almost M to populations at risk for or living with HIV/AIDS

(NEW YORK) — The federal government is investing in the health and wellness of individuals at risk for or living with HIV/AIDS through mental health and substance use services from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

In a release sent to ABC News, HHS announced Friday that $43.7 million from the agency’s Overdose Prevention Strategy will go towards three new grant opportunities that will be especially be targeted to underserved communities of color.

In 2020, there were almost 40 million people around the world living with HIV, according to the HHS. In the U.S., there are approximately 1.2 million people who have HIV, though about 13% don’t know it and need to be tested.

In the U.S., people of color have been majorly overrepresented in HIV diagnoses, due to a range of socioeconomic factors that increase their risk for HIV and HIV-related outcomes.

Black people represent approximately 40% of people with HIV, but make up only 13% of the U.S. population, according to HHS’ latest statistics from 2019. Hispanics and Latinos composed 25% of people with HIV, but make up 18.5% of the population.

The HHS reports that this disproportionate impact of Black and brown communities is also reflected in the demographics of newfound infections, demonstrating that prevention and treatment services are not reaching those who need it most.

“We remain committed to providing people at risk for, or living with HIV/AIDS, with the support and services they need to thrive – no matter who they are or where they live,” said Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra.

According to HHS, the funding targets areas of the country with the greatest disparities in HIV-related health outcomes and aligns with the National HIV/AIDS Strategy.

“We must increase supports and services for those who are at risk for or living with HIV/AIDS and have mental health and substance use needs,” said Miriam Delphin-Rittmon, HHS Assistant Secretary for Mental Health and Substance Use and the leader of Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.

She added, “This means connecting them to easy-to-access, culturally appropriate prevention, treatment, and recovery services.”

One grant will fund substance use disorder treatment programs for racial or ethnic minority populations at high risk for HIV/AIDs.

Another program will provide training and education around the risks of substance use and HIV/AIDS, as well as with community health workers, neighborhood navigators and peer support specialists to ensure that services are reaching those in need.

The third program, the Minority AIDS Initiative, aims to reduced the “co-occurring epidemics of HIV, Hepatitis, and mental health challenges through accessible, evidence-based, culturally appropriate treatment that is integrated with HIV primary care and prevention services.”
