Limited-edition black vinyl versions of The Who‘s first two U.K. albums, 1965’s My Generation and 1966’s A Quick One, will be released on May 6 to launch a new series of half-speed-mastered vinyl editions of the British rock legends’ albums.

Both albums were mastered at London’s Abbey Road Studios by longtime Who engineer Jon Astley and cut for vinyl by acclaimed engineer by Miles Showell. The discs will be packaged in sleeves replicating the albums’ original designs, along and with certificates of authenticity.

My Generation originally was released in December 1965 and reached #5 on the British charts, while its title track peaked at #2 on the U.K. singles tally. The album also featured such gems as “A Legal Matter” and “The Kids Are Alright,” which also were released a singles in the U.K.

A Quick One was released in December 1966 and reached #4 on the U.K. albums chart. Although it yielded no hit singles, the record included the min rock opera “A Quick One, While He’s Away,” a precursor to the band’s longer concept projects, as well as such memorable tunes as “Boris the Spider” and “So Sad About Us.”

In the U.S., both albums were released with different titles — The Who Sings My Generation and Happy Jack — and slightly different track lists. In 2008, The Who Sings My Generation was selected for inclusion in the U.S. Library of Congress’ National Recording Registry as “culturally significant.”

Trevor Noah says Kanye’s recent conduct “breaks my heart”

Trevor Noah says Kanye’s recent conduct “breaks my heart”
Comedy Central

(NOTE LANGUAGE) After Kanye West was suspended from Instagram for his racist digs at Trevor Noah, the Daily Show host says the recording artist’s recent behavior “breaks my heart.”

Ye went after Noah for his support of Kim Kardashian in light of attacks Kanye made against his ex wife and her current boyfriend Pete Davidson. Noah, who grew up with an abusive father, said in part on his show, “What [Kim is] going through is terrifying to watch, and it shines a spotlight on what so many women go through when they choose to leave.”

TMZ posted a screencap of Noah’s Instagram Story about the situation.

While admitting the racist version of “Kumbaya” that Kanye used to diss him was “funny as s***,” Noah said that West was still an “indelible” part of his life.

“I thought differently about how I spent my money because of you, I learned to protect my child-like creativity from grown thoughts because of you,” Noah wrote. “S***, I still smile every time I put on a seatbelt because of you,” he continued, a callback to West supporting the devices for saving his life in a serious car accident.

“It breaks my heart to see you like this,” Noah expressed, adding, “I don’t care if you support Trump and I don’t care if you roast Pete. I do however care when I see you on a path that’s dangerously close to peril and pain.”

Noah also commented, “I’ve woken up too many times and read headlines about men who’ve killed their exes, their kids and then themselves. I never want to read that headline about you.”

Trevor also added optimistically, “hopefully, one day we’ll all be laughing about this.”

Biden, Xi hold high-stakes call on where China stands on Russian invasion

(WASHINGTON) — In a high-stakes video call, President Joe Biden and China’s President Xi Jinping spoke Friday morning for the first time since November amid concerns that China will help Russian President Vladimir Putin’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

The White House said the two leaders spoke for one hour and 50 minutes.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Biden would be candid and direct and that the call provided a chance for him to “assess where President Xi stands.” The conversation would center on “managing the competition between our two countries as well as Russia’s war against Ukraine and other issues of mutual concern,” according to the White House.

Biden was expected to warn Xi that if China directly helps Russia in its assault on Ukraine there will be consequences — but it’s unclear if he laid out specific actions the U.S. will take if China were to supply Russia with military equipment or economic assistance to offset the impact of global sanctions.

In what appeared to be a warning shot to the West, Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Friday that any foreign supplies to Ukraine containing military equipment will be considered “legitimate targets” for Russian strikes after Biden announced this week a slate of weapons the U.S. is supplying to Ukraine.

“We clearly said that any cargo moving into the Ukrainian territory which we would believe is carrying weapons would be fair game. This is clear because we are implementing the operation the goal of which is to remove any threat to the Russian Federation coming from the Ukrainian soil,” Lavrov said in an English-language interview with the RT television channel.

Ukrainians woke up Friday to the first strike on the outskirts city of Lviv, considered a safe haven until now, and not far from the Polish border. It follows a stark warning from the Pentagon that Russia was broadening its target and escalating attacks this week.

While the Biden administration has hesitated from drawing red lines of what would change its position on not supporting a no-fly zone or troops on the ground in Ukraine, Lavrov’s message raises concerns that Russia could fire at military bases in neighboring NATO ally Poland to Ukraine, triggering an Article 5 response.

Earlier this week, national security adviser Jake Sullivan had a seven-hour meeting with his Chinese counterpart in Rome, which was described as “intense.” A senior Biden administration declined to tell reporters whether China had expressed an openness to providing Russia with military or economic support or if it had already provided support to Russia since it invaded Ukraine.

“We do have deep concerns about China’s alignment with Russia at this time, and the national security adviser was direct about those concerns and the potential implications and consequences of certain actions,” the official said.

That meeting had been “long-planned” and “long-discussed” as a way to maintain communication with China, but it happened to take place at “a really timely and important moment in this crisis,” the official added.

Biden and Xi’s critical call comes on the heels of Biden labeling Putin a “war criminal,” a “murderous dictator,” and a “pure thug” in the last 48 hours. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Thursday he “personally” agrees with Biden that Russia has committed war crimes in Ukraine.

Greta Van Fleet guitarist Jake Kiszka has been admitted to the hospital, forcing the band to postpone another date on their ongoing Dreams in Gold tour.

On Wednesday, the “Highway Tune” rockers announced they were delaying a pair of Michigan shows this week after Jake and his brother, vocalist Josh Kiszka, “woke up ill.” The statement said that COVID-19 had been “ruled out” as the cause of the sickness.

In a follow-up statement Thursday evening, GVF writes that while Josh has “mostly recovered,” Jake’s situation has become “more complex.”

“What started as a small cough on Tuesday rapidly progressed overnight, requiring his admission to the hospital yesterday,” the statement reads. “The last 24 hours have been arduous as doctors were unsure of the exact illness.”

The band continues, “Fortunately, after further evaluation, [the doctors] are confident in their diagnosis of pneumonia and an optimal course of treatment has been determined.”

Greta planned to return to the road this Saturday, March 19, in Huntington, West Virginia, but that show has now been postponed to August. The Dreams in Gold tour is now set to continue Tuesday, March 22, in Madison, Wisconsin.

“We are grateful for your kindness and appreciate your positive support during this difficult time,” the band says. “We promise to give you the most up to date information as the situation progresses.”

Biden administration meets with Florida LGBTQ community on ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill

(WASHINGTON) — Officials from the Biden administration met with Florida LGBTQ students and their families in a virtual roundtable concerning the now-dubbed “Don’t Say Gay” bill and other legislative efforts advocates deem anti-LGBTQ.

U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona and Rachel L. Levine, assistant secretary for health at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, listened to the students and their family members discuss concerns and fears about the impact of such bills.

The two were advised on what resources could be provided to support the Florida LGBTQ community.

“Laws around the country, including in Florida, have targeted and sought to bully some of our most vulnerable students and families, and create division in our schools,” Cardona said in a statement.

He added: “My message to you is that this Administration won’t stand for bullying or discrimination of any kind, and we will use our authorities to protect, support, and provide opportunities for LGBTQI+ students and all students.”

The Parental Rights in Education bill, dubbed the “Don’t Say Gay” bill by LGBTQ activists, would limit what classrooms can teach about sexual orientation and gender identity.

Under this legislation, these lessons “may not occur in kindergarten through grade 3 or in a manner that is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with state standards.”

The bill would also allow parents to sue school districts that engage in these topics. The bill is awaiting a decision from Gov. Ron DeSantis.

The Biden administration has denounced the efforts as “hateful.”

“Every parent hopes that our leaders will ensure their children’s safety, protection, and freedom,” the White House said in a statement Feb. 8.

It continued: “Today, conservative politicians in Florida rejected those basic values by advancing legislation that is designed to target and attack the kids who need support the most – LGBTQI+ students, who are already vulnerable to bullying and violence just for being themselves.”

After the bill was passed by the Florida House and Senate, Cardona slammed the legislators responsible for its passage.

“The Department of Education has made clear that all schools receiving federal funding must follow federal civil rights law, including Title IX’s protections against discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity,” Cardona said.

Levine and Cardona also shared with students and families the mental health resources and support that are currently available for these students.

“We need to support LGBTQI+ youth, their parents and families to help them achieve the good health and quality care they deserve,” Levine said. “Our communities have a champion in President Biden. The President supports equality and works to ensure everyone is represented. And that gives people a voice, a chance to effect change, to help people understand the diverse needs of our nation.”

Legislation targeting the LGBTQ community has sent shockwaves throughout the U.S.

States continue to debate whether trans youth should receive gender-affirming health care, whether trans girls should be allowed to play girls’ sports, or whether LGBTQ content can be taught in schools.

Two weeks after Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher started a GoFundMe for Ukraine, the couple updated their followers on Instagram to say that their $30 million goal has been met.

“We just want to say, we hit our goal,” Kunis said in a video posted Thursday. “Over 65,000 of you donated. We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the support. And while this is far from a solution for the problem, our collective effort will provide a softer landing for so many people as they forge ahead into their future of uncertainty.”

“Our work is not done,” Kutcher added. “We’re gonna do everything we can to ensure that the outpouring of love that came from you all as part of this campaign finds maximum impact for those in need.”

The couple went on to thank those who donated and promised to make sure the money goes toward those in need overseas. They also encouraged people to continue donating to them or other foundations working to help Ukraine.

The couple announced they started the GoFundMe earlier this month in the wake of the Russian invasion. They kickstarted their “Stand With Ukraine” effort with $3 million of their own money.

Kunis also opened up about being “proud” of her Ukrainian roots.

“I was born in Chernivtsi, Ukraine, in 1983. I came to America in 1991 and I have always considered myself an American. A proud American,” she said. “I love everything that this country has done for myself and my family, but today I have never been more proud to be a Ukrainian.”

Kutcher chimed in, “And I’ve never been more proud to be married to a Ukrainian.”

The GoFundMe fundraiser benefits Flexport and AirBnB’s relief efforts, the couple said. The freight transporter and the rental service “are actively on the ground providing help to those who need it most,” they said.

Post Malone is doing his part to help one of the nation’s most vulnerable communities — abused children.

The Cottonwood Heights, Utah, Police Department announced that the “Circles” rapper pitched in to assist in ongoing fundraising efforts to support Camp Hope Utah, an organization benefiting child victims or witnesses of crime.

The Grammy nominee is a resident of Utah and lives in an impressive bunker outside of Salt Lake City.

“CHPD is helping the Salt Lake District Attorney’s Office raise money for Camp Hope Utah sponsoring abused kids,” the department announced on Twitter. “Post Malone donated this signed Fender Squire guitar to help raise money.”

The department included several photos of the cream-colored guitar, including a closeup of Posty’s signature, which he embellished with a peace sign, smiley face and three hearts.

If you want to get your hands on this rare Post Malone collectible — and help children while you’re at it — the department said to “email an offer to: CampHopeUtah@ch.Utah.gov.”

Camp Hope, which is a national organization, operates summer camps for abused children and allows them to enjoy activities such as fishing, crafts and campfires while working with trained, trauma-informed counselors.

Katy Perry explains why “When I’m Gone” will help people “revenge celebrate”

ABC/Gavin Bond

Katy Perry recently teamed with Alesso for the track “When I’m Gone” and revealed why now is the perfect time to release their intended summer smash.

“We both knew we wanted to put out a great dance song and this was the right time,” Katy told People in a new interview. “We had the same goals in mind in that we just wanted to create an amazing vibe, and we wanted to just have that kind of sexy, longing, club vibe for the people.”

“This was the right time, right before I was starting my residency, and the world was coming back and everybody wants to revenge celebrate,” the “Roar” singer declared.

That sentiment carried over into creating the song’s music video, which Katy was committed to making perfect — even dancing in the water at three in the morning, about which she cracked, “It was not warm.”

“We wanted the music video to really match the song,” she declared, saying she fussed over “every little detail” to make it happen.

Added Alesso, “We wanted to do something that was cool and sexy that worked with the song and [was] very visually pleasing, and it just turned out so great.”

Katy described working with the Swedish DJ as “effortless, and easy, and cool” because they “had the same goals” when it came to creating the track.

“Alesso has no ego, he has the right amount of ego to be a DJ,” said Katy.  “Confidence, maybe. But it’s great, because ego really gets in the way of good work getting done. He was happy to take any notes, and when we came together in the studio, he was so open.”

For his part, Alesso said working with Katy was “such an awesome experience.”

Tim McGraw and Faith Hill are proud parents to three young adult daughters, all of whom are busy launching their own impressive careers. Yet their oldest, 24-year-old Gracie, still finds time to make fun of her dad.

Gracie impeccably trolled Tim on social media Thursday, posting a side-by-side photo of herself next to Tim’s album cover for his 1994 studio project, Not a Moment Too Soon. “Like father, like son,” she jokingly captions the image.

In the photo, Tim’s 27 years old, just a few years older than Gracie is now. He’s rocking a black cowboy hat and billowing black shirt, holding his fingertips up to what appears to be a window shutter in front of him as he glances meaningfully back toward the camera.

In her version, Gracie’s adopting the same pose, and the same intense eye contact with the camera lens. But what really puts the comparison over the top is a fake mustache that Gracie drew on herself to look like Tim’s real cowboy mustache from the album cover.

These days, Tim has ditched the mustache, but the cowboy hat is here to say. In addition to his music career, the singer currently stars with Faith in the Yellowstone prequel 1883.
