Elton John was a guest on Friday’s episode of his pal Dua Lipa‘s podcast At Your Service, and among the topics they discussed were those unexpected moments that change your life completely. Elton revealed it was one of those moments which has led to his greatest happiness: becoming a father.

“I was never going to have children,” Elton told Dua. But several years ago, he and his husband David visited an orphanage in Ukraine, where he found himself carrying around an 18-month-old boy for a few hours.

“Then we had a press conference at the end,” Elton recalls. “And they said, ‘You seem very fond of this little boy. Would you think of adopting him?’ And I went, ‘Oh yeah, I’d actually love to.'”

That, of course, made headlines, but it turned out that Elton and David weren’t allowed to adopt the boy, nor his half-brother, because they were “too old” and, Elton says, “Because I was gay, they wouldn’t allow us to do it anyway.”  But Elton and David were determined to get the boys out of the orphanage, and, he says, “Luckily they had a grandmother who took them.”

But then, Elton says, David asked him about having their own children.

“I always said no, but this little boy was telling me something,” Elton recalled. “He was saying, ‘Come on, you can be a dad.’ And that’s when we decided to have children, because of this little boy Lev, in Ukraine.”

While Elton and David continue to make sure Lev and his brother are safe, they’ve since welcomed their own children, Zachary and Elijah.  And Elton’s desire to spend more time with them is why he tells Dua of his Farewell Tour, “I will be happy when it’s over.”

Genesis brought its The Last Domino? farewell tour to a close on Saturday night with a concert at London’s O2 Arena, during which singer Phil Collins announced it would be the band’s last ever.

According to Rolling Stone, Collins addressed the audience early on in the concert and said, “Tonight is a very special night…It’s the last stop of our tour. And it’s the last show for Genesis.” He added, jokingly, “After tonight we’ve all got to get real jobs.”

Collins also revealed that original Genesis frontman Peter Gabriel, who left the group in 1975, was in attendance.

“I think Peter’s here tonight,” Phil declared at one point during the show, BestClassicBands.com reports. “Peter Gabriel, ladies and gentlemen…Let’s hear it. I don’t know where he is. Maybe he’s the one shouting for [the 1972 Genesis song] ‘Supper’s Ready.'”

Rolling Stone reports that the event featured the same 23-song set that Genesis had played at nearly every show on the tour, which kicked off with a fall 2021 U.K. leg and also visited North America and mainland Europe.

The World of Genesis fan site tweeted a photo of Gabriel and Collins backstage at the show.

The concert’s final song was a rendition of the 1974 tune “The Carpet Crawlers.” You can check out fan-shot video of the performance on YouTube.

As previously reported, Genesis’ The Last Domino? tour featured the band’s classic trio lineup of Collins, keyboardist Tony Banks and guitarist/bassist Mike Rutherford reuniting to perform for the first time since 2007. Collins, who was unable to play drums on the trek due to recent health issues, was replaced behind the kit by his 20-year-old son Nic. Longtime touring guitarist Daryl Stuermer also took part in the outing.

Billie Eilish and brother FINNEAS took home the Oscar Sunday night for Best Original Song for “No Time to Die,” from the James Bond film of the same name. Backstage, the siblings said writing the song came with a lot of pressure, because they’re both such fans of the Bond series and its music.

“Very exhilarating and, like, peak life and also scary,” is how Billie described the experience to reporters. She added, “We just wanted it to be perfect and represent Daniel Craig‘s last film and all of his films and how much he put into it, and it just was the most amazing experience ever!”

On top of that, FINNEAS said they also felt pressure to make sure the song was true creatively to Billie’s sound and style.

It was really important to us that it felt like a Billie Eilish song and a James Bond song at the same time and not one or the other,” he noted.

“Yeah, it was so, so important to have it all of the respect needed for all of the Bond films in the past and not take anything away from that,” Billie added. “I really didn’t want to disrespect the franchise in any way. I wanted to make everybody happy.”

“And you don’t want to feel like a cover,” FINNEAS added. “You want to feel like your song that you have ownership over.”

FINNEAS also said that he’d consulted with the most recent people who’d won an Oscar for writing a Bond theme: Sam Smith and Jimmy Napes, who wrote “Writing’s on the Wall” for 2015’s Spectre.”

He revealed, “They were very encouraging and gave really good advice, which was basically just to make a song we were really proud of.”

The 94th annual Academy Awards named CODA Best Picture, beating out a category with a whopping 10 nominees.

This marks the first time a movie from a streaming service claimed the night’s highest honor, as it was offered by Apple TV+.  The movie’s producers, Philippe RousseletFabrice Gianfermi and Patrick Wachsberger accepted the award and thanked the Academy “for letting our CODA make history tonight.”

They also spoke about the numerous difficulties they faced filming the groundbreaking movie, such as delaying scenes shot on the ocean at 4 a.m. because of inclement weather.  Despite everything, they praised director Sian Heder, who “kept the boat afloat and you’ve been the best captain a producer can ever dream of, really.”

CODA became the film to beat on Sunday, winning all three awards for which it was nominated — Best Actor in a Supporting Role, which was won by Troy Kotsur, as well as Best Adapted Screenplay and Best Picture.

CODA is a heartwarming story about a musically talented teenager, played by Emilia Jones, and her relationship with her deaf parents and deaf brother.

The award was presented by Lady Gaga and Liza Minnelli.

Jessica Chastain was the actress to beat on Sunday night’s Academy Awards — winning Best Actress for her starring role as the late televangelist Tammy Faye Bakker in The Eyes of Tammy Faye.  This is her first win and third nomination for the honor.

Jessica shouted out her fellow nominees, especially The Lost Daughter star Olivia Colman, saying “Being included with you in this conversation was such an honor.”

The actress also had love for her co-star, Andrew Garfield, calling him “brilliant” and praising, “Thank you for bringing out the best in me by showing up bringing the best of you.”

Chastain celebrated her character, Tammy Faye, whom she praised for showing kindness to everyone regardless of their sexual orientation, health or ethnicity.

“So many people… feel hopelessness and feel alone.  Suicide is a leading cause of death in the United States,” she said, revealing it has affected her family.  She then spoke out against the “bigoted legislation that is sweeping our country with the only goal of further dividing us.”

Chastain said everyone has a “desire to be accepted for who we are… and to live a life without the fear of violence or terror.”  She added, “I want you to know you are unconditionally loved for the uniqueness that is you.”

After a shocking altercation with Chris Rock live on the Oscars stage earlier in the night, Will Smith took home the Oscar for Best Actor.

The 53-year-old actor won for his role in King Richard and very quickly after getting on stage became emotional with tears streaming down his face.

After a brief point about his character, which is based on tennis stars Serena and Venus Williams’ father Richard, being a “fierce defender,” he began reflecting on where he is at this point in his life.

“I’m being called on in my life to love people and to protect people and to be a river to my people,” he shared. “I know to do what we do, you got to be able to take abuse. You got to be able to have people talk crazy to you… you got to be able to have people disrespecting you and you got to smile, you got to pretend like that’s okay.”

Denzel [Washington] said a few minutes ago, ‘At your highest moment, Be careful, that’s when the devil comes for you,'” he added.

His words seemed to reference the earlier incident, where he slapped and cursed out Rock for making a joke about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith

Smith continued his acceptance speech and apologized to the Academy and explained the reasoning behind his emotions, stating, “I’m not crying for winning an award. It’s not about winning an award for me. It’s about being able to shine a light on all of the people.”

“Art imitates life. I look like the crazy father, just like they said, just like they said about Richard Williams but love will make you do crazy things,” he added.

Noticeably, his speech did not include an apology to Rock.

Second time’s the charm! Jane Campion has won the Oscar for Best Director for The Power of the Dog during the 94th Academy Awards ceremony Sunday night.

Campion made history this year as the first woman to be nominated in the category twice and one of only seven women to be nominated for Best Director in the Oscars’ history.

Additionally, this marks the third time a woman has won in the category and the first time that two women directors have won in the category back-to-back. Kathryn Bigelow won for The Hurt Locker in 2010 and Chloé Zhao won last year for Nomadland.

Billie Eilish and her brother FINNEAS won the Oscar for Best Original Song at Sunday’s Academy Awards. “No Time to Die,” from the James Bond film of the same name, had already brought the duo a Grammy and a Golden Globe.

“Oh my God! Oh my Gosh. This is so unbelievable!” Billie laughed.

After thanking everyone they worked with on the song, FINNEAS said thank you to “our parents, who have always been our biggest inspirations and our heroes.” He added, “We love you as parents and we love you as real people too!”

Questlove became overwhelmed with emotion as he accepted the 2022 Oscar for Best Documentary during the 94th Academy Award ceremony held Sunday night at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles.

While accepting the award for his Summer of Soul documentary based on the 1969 Harlem Cultural Film Festival, he said, “It’s not lost on me that the festival should have been something that my beautiful mother, my dad, should have taken me to when I was five years old,” before getting choked up and adding, “This is such a stunning moment for me right now. This is not about me. This is about marginalized people in Harlem that needed to heal from pain.”

“Just know in 2022, this is not just a 1969 story about marginalized people in Harlem,” he starts before admittedly getting overwhelmed.

Pulling himself together he continued, “I’ll thank everyone proper when I get off stage… I’m so happy right now, I could cry. Thank you.”
