1960s baroque pop act The Left Banke‘s reunion album Strangers on a Train, which featured recordings made in 1978 by three of the band’s four core members but wasn’t released until 1986, will be reissued on CD for the first time on March 4.

The Left Banke are best known for the 1966 hits “Walk Away Renée” and “Pretty Ballerina.” The band initially was active from 1965 to 1969, and released two albums during that time period.

Strangers on a Train came about when original Left Banke singer Steve Martin Caro, bassist/guitarist Tom Finn and drummer George Cameron got together to record songs for a new publishing deal Finn had secured. Founding Left Banke keyboardist Michael Brown also is said to have participated in early sessions for what became Strangers on a Train, but was not credited on the album.

The Strangers on a Train reissue also features six previously unreleased tracks written by Brown that he recorded with Caro in 2001 for what he’d hoped would be a new Left Banke project.

The six songs also will be released separately on a digital EP titled High Flyer that’s due out on February 25.

Sadly, the four main members of The Left Banke all died in recent years — Brown in 2015, Cameron in 2018, and Caro and Finn in 2020.

You can pre-order the Strangers on a Train CD and High Flyer EP now at OmnivoreRecordings.com.

Olivia Rodrigo may be a global pop superstar who’s prepping for her first-ever headlining tour, but she hasn’t forgotten her roots: Production started in Los Angeles today on the show that really got her musical career going.

Production on the third season of the Disney+ show High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, in which Olivia stars as Nini, is officially underway.  This season is set at a family-owned sleepaway camp in California called Camp Shallow Lake, where the Wildcats and the rest of the campers put on a production of Frozen.

In addition to Frozen, season three will feature music from Camp Rock, as well as from the original High School Musical franchise.  In fact, one of the original stars of that franchise, Corbin Bleu, will guest star as himself this season.  Other guest stars include Meg Donnelly of Disney’s ZOMBIES franchise and Jason Earles from Hannah Montana.

It’s not clear when the third season will premiere, but Olivia’s SOUR tour kicks off April 2 in San Francisco and runs through July, so presumably, filming will be wrapped up by then.

It was as a result of Olivia’s appearance on High School Musical: The Musical: The Series that people first sat up and took notice of her musical talent: “All I Want,” a song she wrote for the show, unexpectedly went viral on TikTok in 2020.

If you want to know who Callista Clark is, just listen to her single, “It’s ‘Cause I Am.”

The 18-year-old singer is climbing the country charts with her confident debut single that portrays her as a complex, multi-dimensional young woman with a bold voice. The Georgia native is now opening up about how the song inspires her to continue stepping into her confidence.

“I think my song ‘It’s ’Cause I Am’ best sums up who I am. I’ve always been really shy and reserved, so writing ‘It’s ’Cause I Am’ was my way of being bold, daring, courageous, and strong,” she shares with Nashville Lifestyles. “Being that unapologetic and confident in my daily life is a goal of mine every day.”

“It’s ‘Cause I Am” is the lead single off Callista’s debut 2021 EP, Real to Me. She’s currently opening for Scotty McCreery on his Same Truck Tour.

Adele kicks off her Weekends with Adele residency in Las Vegas this Friday at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace. Now, a fellow chart-topping British singer and Vegas headliner is offering her some sound advice on singing in Sin City.

British rock veterans Def Leppard headlined residencies in Las Vegas in 2013 and 2019, and front man Joe Elliott tells The Times of London that the one thing Adele needs to watch out for is the fact that the air in the Nevada desert is extremely dry.

“That is a killer for singers,” Elliott tells The Times. “I had to fill my bath[tub] with boiling water every night and put kettles and humidifiers all over the place so you wake up drowned.”

And while Elliott loves Vegas because, he says, “it’s the only time the audience comes to you,” he advises Adele to “enjoy the fact that you will be traveling very little — but for God’s sake get a humidifier in your room.”

While there have been reports of Caesars putting Adele up in a $40,000-per-night suite while she’s in town, the “Pour Some Sugar On Me” singer says she may want to skip that.

“They offer you accommodation but the big stars will never take it because you just don’t know who’s gonna be next door,” he tells The Times. “We had to get security guards to check the corridor and if it was clear, we’d run like hell to get our key in the door before somebody [recognized] us and bang[ed] on the door all night looking for a party.”

Instead, Elliott advises, Adele should rent a house near the strip, like he did when Def Leppard did their second residency. “I had complete privacy and it was fantastic,” he notes.

The first half of Jamie Lynn Spears‘ anticipated tell-all interview is out and she didn’t hold back about what it was like growing up under Britney Spears‘ shadow.

Speaking on the Call Her Daddy podcast, the 30-year-old actress tearfully said she learned at a young age to “stay out of the way” so she would “not mess anything up for anybody” or the family’s “brand.”

“I was never allowed to control my own narrative or have my own voice unless it was in line with everything,” she added. “My whole life I kind of felt like I didn’t matter… I always felt like an afterthought.”

Despite that, Jamie Lynn has nothing but love for Britney and is “so proud” of her.  “I got to experience watching a woman take over the f****** world. How can I be jealous of that?” she added, refuting rumors that she envies Britney, adding, “We never compared each other, the world did.”

Jamie Lynn also said her family failed Britney when she was experiencing a series of public emotional breakdowns.  “This was a brilliant young woman who was going through a hard time, and if she didn’t stand up for herself then somebody should have,” she said, adding she was unable to be the person her sister needed because she was still a kid, “Somebody should have said stop the f****** presses give this girl a f****** minute.”

“The problem was that I couldn’t be responsible for everything that happened around her and also be authentic to myself,” the Sweet Magnolias star said. “I guess I didn’t have the courage to do it.  I guess I was too scared.”

The second half of the interview comes out Wednesday, January 19.  Jamie Lynn’s memoir, Things I Should Have Said, is out now.

Stevie Wonder celebrates MLK Day calling for Congress to support voting rights

In 1980, Stevie Wonder led the campaign to make Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday a national holiday, and recorded the iconic song, “Happy Birthday” in honor of Dr. King on his Hotter Than July album. On Monday, as the nation celebrated MLK Day, the 25-time Grammy winner demanded that the Senate ends its filibuster and enacts voting rights legislation.

“Any senator who cannot support the protection of voting rights to the United States of America cannot say that they support the Constitution,” the Motown legend said in a YouTube video. “Stop the hypocrisy. Cut the bull-tish. If you care and support our rights, do the hard work. You can’t please everybody, but you can protect all of us. And to keep it all the way real: The filibuster is not working for democracy. Why won’t you?”

Also on Monday, Martin Luther King Jr.’s eldest son, Martin Luther King III, and his 13-year-old granddaughter, Yolanda Renee King, led the annual Peace Walk in Washington, D.C. to honor the legacy of the Nobel Peace Prize winner, and demand action on two voting rights bills: the Freedom to Vote Act, and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.

“What we want is for Americans to be engaged,” King III told ABC News, adding that the need for federal safety guards is more urgent than ever. “This year, we are laser focused on getting the right to vote sustained and getting the right to vote empowered.”

Most of the album was recorded live.
