Gordon Lightfoot’s 1976 tune “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald” is back on the Billboard charts.
The renewed interest in the track coincides with the 50th anniversary of the sinking of the freighter of the same name on Nov. 10, 1975, in which 29 crew members were lost.
According to Billboard, duringtheweek of the anniversary the song saw a 140% increase in streams to 3.7 million streams and a 328% increase in sales, which amounted to 5,000 downloads. The bump resulted in the song jumping to #1 on the Rock Digital Songs Sales chart, making it the late Lightfoot’s third #1 on that chart.
The tune also lands at #22 on the Hot Rock & Alternative Songs chart and #4 on the Digital Songs Sales chart.
And Lightfoot’s other tunes benefited from the Edmond Fitzgerald anniversary as well, with 1974’s “Sundown” landing at #6 and 1970’s “If You Could Read My Mind” at #10 on the Rock Digital Songs Sales chart.
“The Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald” appeared on Lightfoot’s 1976 album, Summertime Dream, and peaked at #2 on the Hot 100 when it was initially released.

Kenny Chesney‘s book tour was supposed to end Nov. 16 at the Miami Book Fair. But now that Heart Life Music has made the New York Times Best Sellers lists, he’s reconsidering.
The new member of the Country Music Hall of Fame has booked a Dec. 2 stop at the Big Apple’s Kaufman Music Center, after Heart Life Music topped both the Hardcover Nonfiction & Combined Print and E-Book Nonfiction rankings.
“It’s amazing how much people love listening to us talk about the process, the stories, why I finally did it,” Kenny says. “After three completely sold-out events in Florida, it felt like we weren’t truly done. After all, you don’t get a New York Times Number One every day, and it seemed like we needed to do one of these talks in New York.”
With less than 450 spots available, the NYC stop will be one of the tour’s most intimate talks. Tickets are on sale now and include an autographed copy of the book.
Her Anniversary episode finds her chatting with Thundercat and DJ Quik about creating the album, which she recorded with the Soulquarians and named after her grandmother’s pistol.
“My grandmother, we called her Granny, and she had a gun in her nightstand and we were forbidden to touch it because it was Mama’s gun,” Erykah explained in the Spotify episode. “And I feel like Mama’s gun is untouchable.”
“I feel like Mama’s Gun was the words and the messages that I had,” she continued. “There’s the power and the ammunition. Each song was a bullet.”
Erykah also recalled her early days with the Soulquarians, blew out a candle on a birthday cake for the album and performed some Mama’s Gun‘s tracks, among other things.
Mama’s Gun was released in November 2000, featuring songs including “…& On” and “Bag Lady.” Erykah is now on tour supporting the anniversary celebration of the album. She’s teamed with Veeps to livestream her Dec. 6 show at the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn.
Zara Larsson on ABC’s ‘Good Morning America’ (ABC/Paula Lobo)
Zara Larsson is sharing a special message for the teen fan who joined her onstage at a concert in Amsterdam.
The “Crush” singer had invited Julia Coster, 16, to rock out with her live, and Julia delivered with no hesitation, nailing every choreographed move.
Video of the duo sharing the stage as they danced to Zara’s hit “Lush Life” has since gone viral on TikTok, with one video clip garnering nearly 15 million views.
“Hi Julia! I just wanted to say that being onstage with you was such an honor, and look at what you have created,” Zara said in a video message shared with ABC’s Good Morning America. “The way people are bringing this energy up onstage every night, inspired by you, is so incredible.”
Julia told GMA she was shocked to receive the message.
“Oh my God, that’s insane,” Julia said when she saw Zara’s shout-out. “This video, it means the world to me. I’m never going to delete it, and I’m going to watch it every night.”
Julia also recalled sharing the stage with Zara, calling it a nerve-racking moment, but said she went with it.
“I panicked a little bit. I was like, ‘Oh my God, now it’s really happening,'” she said. “The first thing I thought when I saw her, it was like, ‘Whoa, you’re so tiny and your makeup is perfect.'”
She added, “I see people being happy about that [viral] video, and that [makes] me even happier.”

Another BookTok favorite is coming to your TV screens.
Leighton Meester and Jared Padalecki are set to star in Netflix’s adaptation of The Bodyguard by Katherine Center.
According to Tudum, it’s a “comedy about a no-nonsense bodyguard who is assigned to protect a charming action star over the holidays.” While the story follows Center’s 2022 novel, the movie version will go by a different title — since that title is already taken by the 1992 Whitney Houston/Kevin Costner film. The production is enlisting fans to help choose the new title.
The rom-com will also star Andie MacDowell and will be directed by Elizabeth Allen Rosenbaum.
“I began paying close attention to BookTok culture around the success of my last Netflix film, Purple Hearts,” Allen Rosenbaum tells Tudum. “The overwhelming enthusiasm on social media and with readers for Katherine Center’s novel was a major factor in my decision to come on board as director.”
She adds, “It’s been amazing to work closely with Katherine so far and to see her so excited about moving her witty story about a no-nonsense bodyguard [for] an A-list actor into the holiday season. It makes the most gorgeous backdrop for the sparks that fly between them to be even brighter.”
A release date for the film has not yet been announced.
Ella Langley & Riley Green (Disney/Frank Micelotta)
Ella Langley made history on Wednesday night, as “you look like you love me” became the first song ever to win single, song, music video and musical event of the year.
Of course, the winning ways of the Riley Green duet started in 2024, when the two each won their first CMA trophies for musical event. They were nominated for the honor again for their current hit together, “Don’t Mind If I Do,” though Blake Shelton and Post Malone triumphed with “Pour Me a Drink.”
Ella went into the night tied for the most nominations with six and ended up winning in three categories thanks to her triple-Platinum breakthrough hit.
The CMA Awards 2025 also brought the TV debut of her latest hit, “Choosin’ Texas,” the first taste of her sophomore album, which is on the horizon for 2026.
(WASHINGTON) — Friday will mark the first time that New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani and President Donald Trump will meet face to face following a war of words between the two leaders throughout Mamdani’s campaign and election.
And while Trump announced the meeting with an insult against the progressive Democrat’s policies, Mamdani has maintained that he is looking forward to the White House meeting to discuss his agenda, including tackling a “national crisis of affordability.”
“I’m not concerned about this meeting. I view this meeting as an opportunity for me to make my case,” Mamdani told reporters Thursday at a news conference.
Trump announced the meeting on Wednesday night on social media, repeating the “communist” label he’s been using against Mamdani, who is a member of the Democratic Socialist group, and putting his middle name, Kwame, in quotes.
Trump told reporters on Sunday that he was going to “work something out,” and meet with the mayor-elect in Washington.
“We want to see everything work out well for New York,” he told reporters.
Mamdani has been a vocal critic of the administration over its policies, including increased deportations, cuts to government agencies and attacks on cities run by Democrats.
On election night, the 34-year-old mayor-elect spoke directly to Trump in his acceptance speech and told him to “turn the volume up,” as he vowed to protect immigrants.
“So hear me, President Trump, when I say this: To get to any of us, you will have to get through all of us,” he said.
Since Mamdani won the June Democratic primary, Trump has spoken out against the state assemblyman, at one point threatening to deport Mamdani, who was born in Uganda, moved to New York as a child, and became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 2018.
“We’re going to be watching that very carefully. And a lot of people are saying, he’s here illegally,” Trump claimed with no evidence in July.
The president has also threatened to withhold federal funding to New York if Mamdani won the election.
Mamdani’s critics have raised skepticism about his proposals, calling them far-fetched and improbable, as some would require state approval. He has also come under fire for his past comments criticizing the NYPD and Israeli government actions in the Gaza conflict.
The mayor-elect has apologized for his comments against the department and vowed to fight for Jewish New Yorkers, while still being critical of the Israeli government’s polices during the conflict.
Mamdani has also repeatedly brushed aside the threats and said he will continue to speak out against the administration’s conservative policies.
“His threats are inevitable,” Mamdani told ABC News a day after the election. “This has nothing to do with safety, it has to do with intimidation.”
At the same time, Mamdani has said he was open to talking with Trump, especially when it comes to affordability issues, noting that Trump won his re-election promising to bring down rising prices.
“I have many disagreements with the president. I intend to make it clear that I will work with him,” Mamdani said Thursday.
The mayor-elect won the election on a campaign to help New Yorkers with costs, with proposals such as raising the income tax on New Yorkers who earn over a million dollars a year, providing free child care to parents with kids as early as six weeks old, and free public buses.
Following Mamdani’s victory and other key wins by Democrats, Trump has said in social media posts and news conferences that he and the Republicans are the party working to lower costs.
“We’re fighting for an economy where everyone can win, from the cashier starting first job to a franchisee opening his first location to the young family in a drive through line,” he told a crowd in Pennsylvania on Monday.
