(SANTA FE, N.M.) — The Santa Fe Sheriff’s Department’s investigation into the fatal shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust is “nearing completion,” Adan Mendoza, the Santa Fe County sheriff, said in an interview Tuesday on Good Morning America.

Hutchins died and the film’s director was hospitalized after a gun held by Alec Baldwin as a prop fired a live round on the set of Rust last October.

The department is waiting for an FBI report with analysis of the firearm, the munitions, the prints and DNA as well as a report from the office of the medical investigator and analysis of cellphone data before the investigation can be completed, Mendoza said.

“The FBI has stated that it might be a few weeks before they finalize their report so we are hoping in weeks and not months,” Mendoza said, referring to when the investigation could come to a close.

On Monday, the sheriff’s office released evidence from its investigation, including hours of body cam video, witness interviews and crime scene photos.

An attorney representing the Hutchins family said they were “surprised” by the release of the evidence while the investigation is still active and ongoing but did not comment further.

Mendoza said the department was required to release the evidence in response to a public records request and it was doing so in an effort to be “transparent” in its investigation.

While it has been more than six months since the incident happened, Mendoza said the case is complicated and the department is doing the best that it can.

“As you can see with the enormous amount of information that we’ve released, the investigative report is 200 plus pages, it’s very complicated. It’s very convoluted. There is an enormous amount of information, so in order to do a thorough report, I think we’re doing the best that we can with the time frame that we have,” Mendoza said.

Mendoza said no one has come forward and admitted to bringing ammunition to the set, but there was at least one live round that was fired from the weapon.

The film’s producers were fined last week for failures that led to what the New Mexico Environment Department’s Occupational Health and Safety Bureau called an “avoidable death.”

“These are two separate investigations. But I think in our investigation, you’ll see some of the same things and I’ll say it again, I think there was complacency, disorganization. They were not adhering to proper safety protocols and industry standards, to be honest, so there’s a degree of neglect,” Mendoza said.

He went on, “Whether that reaches a criminal level will be up to the district attorney to determine.”

The sheriff would not comment on whether Baldwin knew there were live rounds on set, but said it is “yet to be determined” whether he is vulnerable to criminal prosecution.

“The key component is also the analysis on the firearm and the FBI report. So once that’s all collected, a thorough report will be forwarded to the district attorney’s office. They’ll make the determination who is responsible, if anyone,” Mendoza said.

An analysis should show what it took to manipulate the firearm to allow it to go off and the projectiles that were on the scene, Mendoza said.

“This is a lot of information that we’re going to work in conjunction with the D.A.’s office to determine if there is criminal neglect or criminal charges,” Mendoza said.

Parents, are you ready to talk about Bruno again?  If your kid is obsessed with Disney’s latest animated film, Encanto, its vibrant songs are hitting the road in a one-of-a-kind concert event.

Disney Concerts announced Tuesday it’s teamed with Live Nation for the upcoming Encanto: The Sing-Along Film Concert Tour, which begins this summer.  The tour starts in Ridgefield, Washington, on July 18 and spans 32 North American stops before coming to a close on August 28 in Chicago, Illinois. Other pit stops include Phoenix, Dallas, Tampa and other major American cities.

What makes this event unique is that concertgoers will be able to watch the Encanto movie, in full, on the venue’s gigantic screen.  While everyone is encouraged to sing along with the film’s original songs, an on-stage band will also provide live music to make the experience more immersive.

Encanto‘s songs, which were written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, quickly took over social media, in particular the record-breaking “We Don’t Talk About Bruno,” which topped Billboard‘s Hot 100 chart for five weeks — the longest #1 streak of any Disney song in history.  Other standout songs include Jessica Darrow‘s “Surface Pressure,” which peaked at number eight on the Hot 100 and sold over a million copies, and the Oscar-nominated track, “Dos Oruguitas.”

In addition, the Encanto soundtrack was the best-selling album in America for over a month, topping the Billboard 200 albums chart for five consecutive weeks.

Tickets for Encanto: The Sing-Along Film Concert Tour go on sale starting Friday, April 29th at 10am local time on Live Nation, which also lists the full schedule of dates.

(NOTE LANGUAGE) On this day in 1995, the world met Craig Jones, played by Ice Cube, and his best friend, Smokey, played by Chris Tucker, when the hit stoner comedy Friday debuted.

From the porch of his South Central, LA home, a recently unemployed Craig was persuaded to smoke Smokey’s marijuana– a decision he’d soon come to regret. When Faizon Love‘s character, Big Worm, stops by to collect his drug money, which Smokey hadn’t made because of his own selfish gain, the duo set out on a mission to save themselves from the early death Love promised them if he didn’t get his money.

With aspirations to put forth a lighthearted, neighborhood movie that could be watched “over and over again,” legendary rapper Ice Cube put pen to paper to produce the iconic filmHis attempt at creating a “hood classic,” one which prompted two sequels, proved to be more than successful — not only because of its box office success of $28 million against a $3.5 million budget, but more importantly, because of its indelible mark in Black film.

Twenty-seven years may not be a milestone anniversary, but Friday and all of its celebrated moments — including the many unforgettable quotes — deserve recognition every year. Here’s a list of just a few of the timeless memes.

Smokey
— “I know you don’t smoke weed, I know this. But I’m gonna get you high today cause it’s Friday, you ain’t got no job and you ain’t got s*** to do.”

— “You got knocked the f*** out!”

— “And you know this…man!”

Craig
— “Man, it’s the blacker the berry, the sweeter the juice.”

— “Bye, Felicia.”

— “For most people, Friday’s just the day before the weekend. But after this Friday, the neighborhood’ll never be the same.”

Big Worm
— “Playing with my money is like playing with my emotions, Smokey.”

Joi
–“You ain’t gotta lie, Craig.”

(NEW YORK) — Russian President Vladimir Putin’s “special military operation” into neighboring Ukraine began on Feb. 24, with Russian forces invading from Belarus, to the north, and Russia, to the east. Ukrainian troops have offered “stiff resistance,” according to U.S. officials.

The Russian military earlier this month launched a full-scale ground offensive in eastern Ukraine’s disputed Donbas region, as it attempts to capture the strategic port city of Mariupol and secure a coastal corridor to the Moscow-annexed Crimean Peninsula.

Here’s how the news is developing. All times Eastern:

‘People’s Friendship’ statue taken down in Kyiv

A Soviet-era statue that has stood in the capital of Ukraine since 1982 and once symbolized the friendship between Russia and Ukraine was taken down on Tuesday in response to the war between the two countries.

An ABC News crew was on-hand in Kyiv as a large crane removed the bronze “People’s Friendship” statue from its pedestal.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the statue, a gift from the former Soviet Union, is being dismantled because of the “brutal killing and a desire to destroy our state.”

The statue depicts two workers, a Russian and a Ukrainian, holding up a Soviet Order of Friendship of Peoples. The monument was dedicated in November 1982 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the USSR and the 1,500th anniversary of Kyiv.

Klitschko said a 164-foot-tall titanium rainbow-shaped arch the statue rested under will remain and be illuminated with the colors of the Ukrainian flag.

US gathers NATO allies in Germany for Ukraine aid talks

The U.S. will “keep moving heaven and earth” to supply aid to Ukraine, Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin said on Tuesday at a meeting of the Ukraine Security Consultive Group, which includes military representatives from about 40 countries.

“Ukraine clearly believes it can win. And so does everyone here,” Austin said in his opening remarks at Ramstein Air Base in Germany. “I know that we’re all determined to do everything we can to support Ukraine’s needs as the fight evolves.”

Austin said the group would seek to leave with a common understanding of “Ukraine’s near term security requirements, because we’re going to keep moving heaven and earth so that we can meet them.”

He called Russia’s war with Ukraine “indefensible,” adding that Putin didn’t “imagine the world [would] rally behind Ukraine’s so swiftly and so surely.”

Russia attempts to encircle Ukrainian positions in east, UK says

Russian forces appeared to be moving to encircle “heavily fortified” Ukrainian positions in the east, the U.K. Ministry of Defense said on Tuesday.

“The city of Kreminna has reportedly fallen and heavy fighting is reported south of Izium, as Russian forces attempt to advance towards the cities of Sloviansk and Kramatorsk from the north and east,” the ministry said in its latest intelligence update.

Ukrainian forces in Zaporizhzhia were preparing for an attack from the south, the ministry said.

(NOTE LANGUAGE) James Gunn is a “ride or die” guy with Chris Pratt.

On Monday, a Twitter user called @themeghanlodon_ posted a photo of Pratt next to Moonfall actor Patrick Wilson, snarking “Marvel. Hear me out. Just… replace him.”

Pratt has become a lighting rod for some online, mostly thanks to his openly Christian beliefs, and this Twitter user apparently thought they’d join the pile on. The initial comment even caught the attention of Newsweek.

However, Gunn, the writer-director of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, wasn’t having it, and shut the “replacing” comment right down.

“For what?” the filmmaker replied. “Because of your made-up, utterly-false beliefs about him? For something that someone else told you about him that’s not true?”

He added, “Chris Pratt would never be replaced as Star-Lord but, if he ever was, we would all be going with him.”

Gunn’s defense immediately drew support from fans, who turned up the heat on the troll. “Pratt is great at the role, not sure what’s wrong with you,” one offered.

Evidently, @themeghanlodon_ subsequently backpedaled, saying, “I just want to apologize because there is a looot of harmful and potentially triggering stuff being said in the comments of a joke I made…”

In response, another user replied, “…I don’t think you deserve to be harassed. But let’s not act like you weren’t also spreading hate in that same thread.” They also brought receipts to show she also called Pratt a “piece of s***.”

Get a dish of Carrie Underwood’s “ugly” lasagna

One of Carrie Underwood‘s favorite meals to make is pretty “ugly.”

The singer cites one of her to-go meals to make at home is a veggie lasagna that she’s dubbed “ugly lasagna” due to its messy nature, but it’s packed with nutrients and yummy flavor.

The longtime vegetarian’s recipe calls for bell pepper, spinach, onion and vegan cheese, among any other vegetables the cook chooses to include. “The good thing is you can really throw literally any vegetables you have in your refrigerator in it,” Carrie explains. “I’ve used leftovers before…keep it colorful, it’s all good. Veggies are your friends.”

As for the “ugly” part, Carrie says the dish gets its name from the non-elegant way she spoons it onto her plate from the slow cooker. “When I get it out of the crock pot, it’s like a big ole pile of awesome on my plate,” she describes.

You can find the full recipe in Carrie’s book, Find Your Path.

Dispatch releases Russian version of “The General” in support of Ukraine

Dispatch has released a Russian version of the band’s beloved anti-war song “The General” in support of Ukraine.

If you’ve never heard the original 1997 song, the lyrics tell the story of a “decorated general with a heart of gold” who realizes that “this fight is not worth fighting.” In singing “The General” in Russian, Dispatch singer Chadwick Stokes imagines a Russian military officer having the same realization amid the country’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

“The hope is that this will reach the ears of those participating in this invasion and realize that this fight is not worth fighting,” Dispatch says. “To force someone to act against humanity is to destroy their own humanity. Please share this message of peace far and wide.”

You can watch Stokes perform the Russian version of “The General” now on YouTube. Proceeds earned from the song will be donated to the Leleka Foundation, which is providing first aid kits to emergency medical responders and frontline fighters in Ukraine.
