(WASHINGTON) — A jury on Monday found former New York City police officer Thomas Webster guilty on six charges, including assaulting a police officer, in the first federal assault case stemming from the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Webster’s trial marks the fourth time a jury has heard a Jan. 6 defendant’s case, with all four cases resulting in convictions on all charges.

Webster was found guilty of assaulting D.C. Metro Police Officer Noah Rathbun, who testified at the trial — as did Webster himself, who often spoke directly to the jury and called Rathbun as a “rogue cop.”

According to testimony and video of the riot, Webster pushed through a crowd toward bike racks that were acting as a police perimeter. Clad in a bulletproof vest and waving a Marine Corps flag, he arrived at the front of the crowd, yelling “commie mother——-” at the officers, before zeroing in on Rathbun and yelling. “take your s— off!”

“That’s what people say when they want to fight,” Rathbun said during his three-hour testimony. “It’s very common.”

Webster swung a metal flagpole in a downward motion twice before breaking apart the bike racks. As Rathbun backed away, Webster ran toward him and tackled him, then pulled at his gas mask. Rathbun began to choke on his chin strap as Webster pulled at the mask, Rathbun testified.

Video shows that Rathbun hit Webster’s face while trying to push him away, which became a cornerstone of Webster’s defense. Webster, who claimed that Rathbun had provoked the fight, said that he pulled at Rathbun’s mask as a form of self-defense.

“I felt like I was the cop and he was the protester,” Webster said on the stand.

U.S. attorneys said that Webster clearly should have known he was not allowed on Capitol grounds, pointing to the snow fencing, the bike racks that formed a police barrier, and the Metro Police’s riot gear, flash bangs and tear gas. He also should have known, they said, through his 20 years as a New York City police officer.

“Thomas Webster and Officer Rathbun both swore oaths to protect the country. But only one of them actually fulfilled that oath on Jan. 6 at the U.S. Capitol,” a U.S. attorney said. “And that was Officer Rathbun.”

The defense said they wanted the jury to see the “whole truth.”

“When are acts of police misconduct acceptable?” defense attorney James Monroe said. Referring to the flagpole, Monroe said, “Sometimes, a flagpole is all it is. It’s all it was.”

Webster was convicted of assaulting, resisting or impeding an officer using a dangerous weapon; civil disorder; entering and remaining in restricted grounds with a dangerous weapon; engaging in physical violence in restricted grounds with a dangerous weapon; and engaging in an act of physical violence on Capitol grounds.

Sentencing is set for September 2. Judge Amit Mehta ruled that Webster does not have to be held in custody prior to sentencing.

While he famously “bumps” Matt Damon from every episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Jimmy bumped himself tonight’s show — because he’s COVID positive.

“Our daughter brought us covid (even though we specifically asked her not to),” he quipped on Twitter.

Jimmy continued, “All feeling fine, I am double vaxxed and boosted but the show must not go on.”

Kimmel added apologies to his presumed guests for the episode, Tom Cruise and Iliza Shlesinger, and also thanked comic Mike Birbiglia, who will be filling in for him at the host’s desk starting Tuesday evening.

Harry Styles is once again the artist with the biggest song in the country. “As It Was” has retained its number-one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for a third week.

The single, which arrived on March 31, was streamed 28.2 million times over the past week and fans downloaded an additional 9,200 copies. The song is currently the second-most-streamed single and is the third-most-downloaded track in the U.S., reports Billboard.

Fans are anxiously awaiting his forthcoming album, Harry’s House, which arrives May 20.

Also making waves on the Hot 100 are Imagine Dragons, whose hit “Enemy” entered the top five this week and is currently the most-heard song on U.S. radio. This marks the band’s second song to rule Billboard‘s Radio Songs chart, following “Thunder.”

As for the rest of the top-five songs on the Hot 100, Jack Harlow’s “First Class” is number two, Glass Animals’ “Heat Waves” is in third place and Latto‘s “Big Energy” remix featuring Mariah Carey is number four.

PSY is proud of BTS‘ success and said their songs are doing what he had originally wished for his 2012 hit, “Gangnam Style.”

NME reports the rapper spoke at a recent press conference promoting his new track “That That,” which features BTS’ Suga, and said the septet achieved the “unfulfilled dreams” he had for his breakthrough track.  Looking back at his sudden rise to fame nearly a decade ago, PSY explained, “It was so exhausting at the time of its success [because] the song got popular so it wasn’t a ‘healthy hit.'”

“There are cases where the song increases in popularity and cases when the [artist] increases in popularity, and longevity is that much longer in the latter,” he noted, saying his song’s popularity overshadowed him.

“There were even people who thought my name was ‘Gangnam Style,'” added PSY of when the viral hit broke into Western radio.  “Some people overseas who would say ‘Hi, Gangnam Style.'”

The rapper noted BTS and K-pop sensations BLACKPINK are experiencing the “opposite” of what he had.  He said both groups have achieved “permanence and persistence.”

PSY noted that he helped pave the way for more Korean acts to follow because, “The wall of American radio is very high because the songs are in a foreign language… Our biggest weapon is YouTube.”

“Gangnam Style” has been viewed nearly 4.5 billion times since it was uploaded in July 2012.  PSY’s follow-up single, “Gentleman,” has been viewed over 1.4 billion times.

“I feel very proud that I had a role in being that trigger,” PSY added. “BTS have thanked me for that part several times, so I’m proud of it.”  PSY also noted, “I think they’re giving [Korea] a lot of proud moments.”

PSY released his new studio album, PSY 9th, on Friday.

Miranda Lambert’s written her fair share of breakup songs — from the trigger-happy “Kerosene” to the heartbroken “Tinman” — and there’s plenty of lonely, love-gone-wrong material on her new album, Palomino, too.

The difference? This time around, Miranda’s not living what she writes. In 2019, the singer tied the knot with her famously dreamy — and frequently shirtless — former NYPD officer boyfriend, Brendan McLoughlin. Now, the two enjoy a relationship that the singer says is every bit the fairy tale it seems.

“It’s like some kind of Hallmark movie or something,” Miranda admits in the latest installment of CBS Sunday Morning.

“This redneck from Texas meets this, like, beautiful NYPD officer on the street in New York. But it actually happened that way,” she continues.

But as her personal happiness blossomed, Miranda never worried that her art might suffer.

“Sometimes artists live in darkness, and use it for their art, or whatever…but you know, you don’t have to be tortured to be good. You can write a sad song and not have to live every sad song you ever write,” Miranda points out.

“It’s an impossible way to live,” she adds.

Palomino came out on Friday.

Korn rocked their bodies (yeah) while making the video for their latest single, “Worst Is on Its Way.”

On their TikTok, the “Freak on a Leash” metallers shared a behind-the-scene clip from the shoot, which features Jonathan Davis and company breaking out into an impromptu rendition of the Backstreet Boys song “I Want It That Way.”

Backstreet’s Nick Carter then responded with his own TikTok, showing him listening to Korn’s rendition while sporting a Hot Topic-esque wig and eyeliner. In the caption, Carter wrote, “Can someone please tell me how to do the hair and makeup?”

The “Worst Is on Its Way” video premiered last month, though sadly no Backstreet covers made it to the final cut.

“Worst Is on Its Way” appears on Korn’s new album, Requiem, which was released this past February. Korn will hit the road in support of Requiem on a co-headlining U.S. tour with Evanescence beginning in August.

Lauren Spencer-Smith is out with the video for “Flowers,” her follow-up single to “Fingers Crossed.”

In the video, Lauren narrates the song while we see a young women in a split screen that shows her in an unhappy relationship with one guy, and a happy relationship with another one. In the final line, Lauren delivers the song’s big takeaway: “If there’s anything I’ve learned it’s you should watch yourself/ If it’s hurting you, then leave and go and get some help.”

The song is based on Lauren’s personal experience, and she says in a statement, “When I’m writing I always think about what’s going on in the world. How are people feeling? What are they going to relate to? I want to listen to a song and know what it’s about, that’s why I write with details about my life but always think, how will my fans relate? I want it to feel universal.”

The Canadian singer/songwriter, who’s currently working on her debut project, will perform and present at the Juno Awards — the Canadian equivalent of the Grammys — scheduled for May 15 in Toronto.
