Four-time Grammy winner India.Arie is explaining why she’s pulling her music from Spotify in an interview on the Tamron Hall show, which airs Friday.

As previously reported, Arie is following legendary artists Neil Young and Joni Mitchell. They had their music removed from the streaming service because it hosts Joe Rogan‘s wildly popular podcast, which they feel is spreading misinformation about COVID-19 and the vaccine.  But Arie’s decision isn’t based on that: She has other problems with Rogan, and with Spotify itself.

“One [reason] is the Joe Rogan conversation, and for me his language around race and some of the things I’ve seen and heard, but also coupled with that, there is the treatment of artists by Spotify,” Arie explains to Hall. “And so artists are underpaid and Joe Rogan gets paid all this money and it’s hard for me to, these days, just sit back and go, ‘Oh, well, that’s how it goes.’”

“I’m a little bit nervous about it because I know people are gonna conflate the conversations and some people are gonna judge me and they’re gonna say it’s not my business…because it is a little bit of a different reason than Joni [Mitchell] and Neil [Young] but also, it’s my truth.” she continued.

“And it’s not always my job to educate people about how I feel, although I try,” she adds. “I know that my truth is mine. And so I am working to have [my music and podcast] pulled down [from Spotify].”

Prior to her interview, Arie wrote on Instagram, “What I am talking about is respect — who gets it and who doesn’t. Paying musicians a fraction of a penny? And [Rogan]$100M?” she wrote. “This shows the type of company they are and the company that they keep. I’m tired.”

Rita Moreno reveals “tempestuous” relationship with Marlon Brando led to suicide attempt

ABC/Eric McCandless

(NOTE CONTENT) EGOT-winner Rita Moreno looked back at her “tempestuous sexual” relationship with another acting legend, the late Marlon Brando, during a new installment of Variety‘s Actors on Actors series.

Their coupling was so intense, in fact, the West Side Story actress revealed to Jessica Chastain that Moreno revealed she tried to kill herself.

“I tried to end my life with pills in his house,” Moreno explained, noting, “I didn’t understand that if I was going to kill this pathetic, sad, trod-upon Rita, the rest of Rita was also going to go with me. I really didn’t seem to understand that.”

Moreno, now 90, met Brando on the set of the 1954 film Désirée, when she was 22 — and the sparks flew. “Ultimately, it was exciting to be with Marlon,” she recalled, “Oh, my God, it was exciting.”

Moreno added, “He was extraordinary in many, many ways, but he was a bad guy,” explaining, “He was a bad guy when it came to women. I was such a different person then. I had all the makings of a doormat.”

Moreno explained how Brando lied to her throughout their eight-year relationship, but he wasn’t fooling anybody. “He was afraid of me,” she explained. “I could read him like a book and that’s why he loved me, and that’s why he mistreated me in so many ways.”

Brando passed away in 2004 at 80 years old. “I only found out after he died that I was the love of his life, not just the lust of his life,” Moreno expressed, sharing that in spite of Brando’s many relationships, the father of 11 had in his home only one picture of himself with a woman — and it was Moreno.

Durannies everywhere are celebrating the fact that Duran Duran have been nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, and the group themselves couldn’t be happier.

“Just to make it onto the nominations list is an honor that I never expected to experience… But for sure, this distinction is due in large part to the fact that we have an army of fans around the world who have unwaveringly supported us for the past four decades,” says singer Simon LeBon in a statement. “We are all extremely grateful to all of you for making this happen.”

Bass player John Taylor adds, “To be nominated by such a highly esteemed organization is truly special in this, our fortieth, year. For decades now Duran Duran have been inspired by the incredible support of our beautiful and diverse fanbase around the world. To be considered by the Hall of Famers is truly next level. Let’s hope we make the cut!”

And drummer Roger Taylor notes, “The feeling was pure gratitude when I heard this morning that we are nominees for the rock n roll hall of fame. A big thank you to not only the Rock Hall for making us part of the ballot, but also to all the DD fans that have made so much noise. The 12-year-old drummer in me just screamed very, very loudly!”

If chosen for induction, the original five members of Duran Duran — Simon, John and Roger, plus Nick Rhodes and Andy Taylor — will get into the Hall, but so will Warren Cuccurullo, who played guitar with them from 1986 to 2001 and co-wrote their hits “Ordinary World” and “Come Undone.”

Fans can vote for which artist they want to be inducted every day from now until April 29 at Vote.RockHall.com.

Meghan Trainor candidly spoke about being a first-time mom and, despite enduring several unforeseen challenges, the singer says she’s already planning for baby number two, three and four!

Speaking to Parents magazine, the “Title” singer reflected on how scared she was when giving birth to Riley, her first child with husband Daryl Sabara.  “We had a lot of bumps,” said Meghan, noting she experienced gestational diabetes and, when Riley was born via cesarean, he spent his first five days in the NICU for breathing problems.

“When I saw Riley in the NICU, all hooked up to these wires, I just saw the most adorable baby redhead I’ve ever seen,” she recalled.

Meghan also revealed she has PTSD stemming from that traumatic experience.  The Grammy winner wants to discuss “the hard parts” of motherhood because  “It feels like I’m telling my truth.” Another truth is she’s struggling to love her postpartum body.  “I love my baby, but I can’t look at my stretch marks and honestly say, ‘Wow, I love them,'” she confessed.

Meghan is expressing her journey through her music. “I heard that when you have a baby, you get more creative, and my lyrics are changing,” she said. “Instead of writing songs to make everyone feel better, I’m writing about how I feel in this moment. But it’s not like every day is sad. It’s more like: Yes, I am a bada**, but this ain’t easy, and I have to get up and keep going.”

Despite experiencing numerous “bumps,” Meghan says she will happily go through it all again.  The “Me Too” singer is committed to having a large family and stated, “I’m gonna try to get to four… We’ll see what happens after three. I’m not doing less than that. I need three.”

Last year, Budweiser sat out its traditional Super Bowl commercial buy and donated instead to COVID-19 vaccine awareness efforts. But this year, the brewer’s back in a big way for the Big Game — by tapping an Oscar winner.

Academy Award-winning Nomadland director Chloe Zhao called the shots on the spot, titled A Clydesdale’s Journey, which follows one of the beer brand’s trademark horses “as it fights through setbacks and overcomes challenges, embodying the continued resilience of the people of America.”

The dramatic ad shows the titular horse hobbled by an injury, as well as its road to recovery with his faithful golden retriever pal by his side.

As “The Star-Spangled Banner” plays in the background, the horse struggles to get back on his feet repeatedly, eventually breaking into a gallop as an electric guitar shreds.

“In the home of the brave, down never means out,” a title card reads.

According to Budweiser, the spot reminds viewers “that while the country has faced numerous challenges throughout its history, the steadfastness of the American spirit will allow us to recover from hardship, continue rebuilding and come back stronger than ever before.”

Eternals director Zhao was tapped because “her work often depicts true American grit and journeys of self-discovery through a deeply human lens,” Budweiser explained.

Super Bowl LVI, featuring the AFC champion Cincinnati Bengals versus the NFC champion Los Angeles Rams, is on Sunday, February 13.

Ronnie Wood selling signed prints of new Picasso-inspired Rolling Stones painting

Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood has celebrated his famous band with a new painting, a Pablo Picasso-inspired piece title “Abstract Performance” that offers a surreal depiction of the legendary rock group playing live.

Wood was on hand to debut the painting on Tuesday during a surprise visit to Wood Lane in London outside the popular Westfield shopping center. A billboard teasing the painting appeared at the same location earlier this week. You can check out photos of Ronnie’s visit to Wood Lane, including a pic of him with his wife, at his Twitter page.

Limited-edition prints of “Abstract Performance” are available for purchase now through February 15 at the Art Store section of RonnieWood.com, priced at $2,000. Each print will be hand-signed and hand-numbered by Wood and feature a personal dedication from him.

“Abstract Performance,” which Wood completed in 2020, is among a recent series of abstract, Picasso-inspired paintings of The Rolling Stones that Wood has created.

“Picasso did his own take on a lot of artists, but I bet he never thought no one would ever do a take on him,” Wood says. “I hope and think he’d be flattered, but also a bit shocked and pleasantly surprised at my take on his work.”

Meanwhile, a new post on Wood’s Instagram page reports that “[e]xciting new works [are] coming soon from Ronnie’s art studio.” The message is accompanied by a photo of a variety of paintings on which he apparently is currently working, including another abstract of The Stones and a portrait of Buddy Holly.

Biden orders US troop deployments to reassure NATO allies amid Russia standoff

(WASHINGTON) — President Joe Biden has ordered U.S. troop deployments to reassure NATO allies amid the standoff with Russia over Ukraine.

Pentagon press secretary John Kirby announced the imminent arrival of several thousand U.S. troops — some already in Europe and some from the U.S. — to NATO allies in eastern Europe at a Pentagon briefing Wednesday — the first major movement of U.S. forces in response to concerns Russia will invade Ukraine.

“President Biden has been clear that the United States will respond to the growing threat to Europe’s security and stability. Our commitment to NATO Article 5 and collective defense remains ironclad. As part of this commitment and to be prepared for a range of contingencies, the United States will soon move additional forces to Romania, Poland, and Germany,” Kirby said.

All of the troops would be under U.S. command.

“I want to be very clear about something. These are not permanent moves. They are moved designed to respond to the current security environment. Moreover, these forces are not going to fight in Ukraine. They are going to ensure the robust defense of our NATO allies,” he added.

A senior defense official had earlier confirmed to ABC News that about 3,000 U.S. troops will be given orders to deploy to Europe or, if they’re already in Europe, to head to countries in eastern Europe.

One of the units moving into eastern Europe from Germany is an armored Stryker unit.

“It’s important that we send a strong signal to Mr. Putin and frankly, to the world that NATO matters to the United States. It matters to our allies, and we have ironclad Article 5 commitments attack on one is an attack on all,” Kirby said.

The troop movements are separate from the 8,500 U.S. troops put on “heightened alert” to reinforce NATO’s Response Force if needed — and none would go to Ukraine.

Pressed on what signal it sends that the U.S. is not waiting for a NATO vote to deploy an alliance force, Kirby said “the signal that sends — that we’re that we’re moving additional U.S. forces into allied territory, at the request and with the invitation of those countries — is that we take our NATO commitments very, very seriously.”

Kirby said 1,000 soldiers based in Germany will arrive in Romania in “the coming days” at the request of the country, augmenting the roughly 900 U.S. troops already in Romania. Another 2,000 troops from Fort Bragg in North Carolina will deploy to Poland and Germany, most to Poland.

“The 82nd Airborne Division is deploying components of an Infantry Brigade Combat Team and key enablers to Poland. And the 18th Airborne Corps is moving a joint task force capable headquarters to Germany. Both of them as you know are based in Fort Bragg, North Carolina,” Kirby said.

The announcement comes after Biden told reporters on Friday that he would be moving American forces “in the near term.”

Russian President Vladimir Putin blamed the escalating tensions on the U.S. and the West for having “ignored” Russia’s key demand that NATO bar Ukraine from joining the organization. The U.S. and NATO allies argue Russia is the aggressor, having already invaded Crimea and massing troops at the border.

This a developing story. Please check back for updates.
