The Weeknd went out of his way to console a disappointed six-year-old fan who was unable to see him in concert in Toronto.

The Grammy winner’s tour is finally up and running after a rocky false start in the Canadian city, which was hit by a massive network outage. The Weeknd was forced to cancel the July 8 show at Rogers Centre and that devastated Phoenix Prince, who had dressed up like the “Save Your Tears” hitmaker to see him in concert.

A photo of him crying outside the venue went viral and The Weeknd retweeted it, asking his fans to “please find him for me.” His supporters went to work, and soon enough, Phoenix and his dad boarded a flight to Philadelphia to see him in concert at Lincoln Financial Field.

Phoenix’s dad shared photos of his son embracing the “Blinding Lights” singer backstage, being given the grand tour of the venue and having his little red tux signed by the hitmaker.

“I wouldn’t be able to put this last week into words if I tried. We are forever grateful for this moment. We are beyond thankful to Abel and his beautiful crew for their friendship, hospitality, generosity and for spending day with Phoenix and I,” he wrote on Instagram. “He will cherish this experience forever. Thank you a million times over.”

In other Weeknd news, the official teaser trailer for his HBO Max show The Idol is finally here! Teased as “the sleaziest love story,” the show stars Lily-Rose Depp as an aspiring pop star who falls in love with The Weeknd’s character, a cult leader.

The spicy teaser promises plenty of drama and HBO-worthy scenes. Although the show is “coming soon,” the official release date is forthcoming.

Some Marvel movie fan shelled out $200K just to own Captain America’s mighty shield — and it’s not even vibranium in real life.

The hero prop wielded by Chris Evans in 2012’s The Avengers was just one of the items sold when the hammer fell at Julien’s Auctions and TCM’s “Hollywood Legends” auction over the weekend.

Other items that fetched a pretty penny were a Stormtrooper helmet worn on screen in 1977’s Star Wars: A New Hope, which sold for $192,000, and a cape worn by Christopher Reeve in Superman III, which was sold for $51,200.

But the biggest seller of the event was Marilyn Monroe‘s gown and headpiece from 1954’s There’s No Business Like Show Business; the ensemble scored $218,750.

Other items snatched up from the auction included Audrey Hepburn‘s tweed Givenchy outfit from 1961’s Breakfast at Tiffany‘s, which went for $156,250; Chris Hemsworth‘s Mjolnir hammer from 2013’s Thor: The Dark World seemed a bargain in comparison, selling for $51,200.

Limp Bizkit is postponing the band’s scheduled summer tour of the U.K. and Europe due to “personal health concerns” affecting frontman Fred Durst.

In a video posted to the “Break Stuff” outfit’s website, Durst explains that he underwent some medical tests ahead of the tour to confirm that he’s in “good physical condition and and everything’s OK.”

“To my surprise, my doctor has decided to send me a letter telling me he would not like me to tour at this time, and to stay close by to do some more tests,” Durst shares. “This was very unexpected news, and I’m so sorry, and I look forward to making it up to [the U.K. and European fans] as soon as possible.”

“I’m only wishing for the best, and I know everything’s gonna be OK,” he continues. “Thank you so much for your support, as we do love and cherish our connection with you more than anything on this planet.”

Limp Bizkit was set to tour in support of the group’s new album Still Sucks, which dropped last October.

Axl Rose has dedicated Guns N’ Roses‘ recently concluded European tour to late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins.

Over the weekend, in a tweet following the tour’s closing show in Germany, Rose wrote, “It’s just a simple gesture n’ it’s awkward dealing with the gravity of something like this but in an effort to pay [our] respects we’d like to dedicated this tour to our friend Taylor Hawkins.”

“Taylor was a really great guy and it was always great to see him!” the “Welcome to the Jungle” singer continued. “He was a great n’ always welcome part of touring these last few years! This is such a horrible thing and [our] hearts go out to his family, friends, band manes and everyone who love him.”

Hawkins passed away unexpectedly on March 25 in Bogotá, Colombia ahead of a Foo Fighters show scheduled there for later that night. He was 50 years old.

Foo Fighters will be holding a pair of tribute shows to Hawkins taking place September 3 in London and September 27 in Los Angeles.

Also in his note, Rose thanked Carrie Underwood, who joined GN’R for two shows in London to sing “Paradise City” and “Sweet Child o’ Mine.”

“She’s AMAZING!!” Rose wrote of the country star. He added that Underwood was also a “real lifesaver,” alluding to the vocal issues he was battling during the second London show, which forced GN’R to postpone their next show in Scotland.

“At least someone could sing!!” Rose wrote.

Jury to weigh death penalty as Parkland shooter’s penalty phase trial begins

(NEW YORK) — A jury will soon determine if confessed Parkland school shooter Nikolas Cruz will be sentenced to death.

Opening arguments begin Monday in the penalty phase of Cruz’s trial. The trial is expected to take several months. At the conclusion, the jury’s decision must be unanimous to sentence him to death.

On Feb. 14, 2018, Cruz, then 19, gunned down 14 students and three staff members at his former school, Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, in South Florida. He was taken into custody that day.

Cruz pleaded guilty in October 2021 to 17 counts of first-degree murder and 17 counts of attempted first-degree murder.

Cruz said in court last year, “I am very sorry for what I did and I have to live with it every day. … It brings me nightmares and I can’t live with myself sometimes.”

Cruz, the deadliest mass shooter to go before a jury, said in court he believes the victims’ families should be the ones to decide whether he gets the death penalty.

Cameron Kasky, a Parkland student in 2018 and now a gun-reform activist, called the death penalty “barbaric” in a tweet Sunday.

The death penalty “will not bring any of the victims back” and will “create a false sense of Justice, which will only come when the gun manufacturers and the politicians who support them are held accountable,” Kasky wrote.

The “shooter does not deserve to live, but the U.S. government and our ‘justice’ system is incapable of responsibly wielding the power to determine value in life,” he wrote. “It’s the politicians who support the gun lobby that should be held accountable.”

Manuel Oliver, whose 17-year-old son Joaquin died in Parkland, told Miami ABC affiliate WPLG, “I think he should die and I think that is not enough. … Not even the death penalty is enough.”

Fred Guttenberg, who has been fighting for gun reform since his 14-year-old daughter Jaime was killed in Parkland, tweeted Monday, “One week ago today I was at the @WhiteHouse to celebrate @POTUS signing gun safety legislation. Today, I am at the Courthouse for the start of the penalty phase of the criminal trial of the person who murdered my daughter with an AR 15. This is the reality of gun violence.”

“Jaime, I miss you beyond words,” he added in another tweet.

Max Schachter, whose 14-year-old son Alex was killed, tweeted Monday morning, “I love you Alex.”

Garth Brooks was in Charlotte, North Carolina over the weekend, playing a two-night stand at the city’s Bank of America Stadium.

When he arrived to the venue on Friday, the country superstar found an exciting surprise: A custom Carolina Panthers jersey just for him, bearing his last name and the number 12.

“Walked in and the first thing I saw!” Garth wrote on Twitter along with a selfie with the special jersey. “What a way to start the weekend!!! THANK YOU PANTHERS!!!”

Even before he walked in and saw the jersey, Garth was already feeling the love in North Carolina: His two shows in the state have each sold over 80,000 tickets. Garth booked these shows as makeup dates since he previously planned to hit Charlotte in 2021, but that date was canceled amid a resurgence of COVID-19 cases.

This weekend’s shows were Garth’s first time playing the venue, which is the home of the Carolina Panthers. They also marked his first shows in Charlotte in 20 years.

Garth’s 2022 Stadium Tour continues throughout the summer and will conclude in the U.S. on August 6 before heading across the pond for five sold-out dates in Dublin, Ireland.

Lil Uzi Vert has updated his pronouns on Instagram to “they/them.”

The 26-year-old rapper, who previously went by “he/him,” updated the pronouns over the weekend, using a feature that the social media app implemented over a year ago that allows user to share their gender identity.

While the move has some speculating that Lil Uzi identifies as non-binary, they have not made an official statement on the matter. However, it should be noted that the profile update comes shortly after international Non-Binary People’s Day, which was July 14.

Also this week, the Philadelphia native released a new track on SoundCloud titled “Space Cadet” and announced their forthcoming EP Red & White. No release date was shared.

He’s one of Hollywood’s most eligible bachelors, but maybe not for long if Chris Evans has his way.

The Marvel movie lead and star of the new Netflix action film The Grey Man was just asked if there were any parallels between his dogged character in the new thriller and himself, and the answer he gave to Shondaland’s Mariel Turner was surprising for your typical movie junket softball.

“I’m gonna give you a good answer,” Evans said while sitting beside his Grey Man co-star Ana de Armas. “The answer would be that maybe [I’m] laser-focused on finding a partner — someone that you want to live with.”

He added, “I love what I do. It’s great; I pour all of myself into it. Even this industry is full of pockets of doubt, hesitation, and recalibration.”

Evans went on: “In terms of really trying to find something that you really can pour all of yourself into, maybe it’s about trying to find someone that you’re looking to spend your life with.”

Evans has previously been linked to stars including Minka Kelly and Jenny Slate.

The Grey Man has the 41-year-old former Captain America on the hunt for another spy who goes by the moniker shared by the movie’s title. Ryan Gosling plays the target of Evans’ mustachioed Lloyd Hansen. Based on the novel of the same name from 2009, the action film was directed by Evans’ Marvel movie directors Joe and Anthony Russo.

Also starring Bridgerton‘s Regé-Jean Page and Oscar winner Billy Bob Thornton, The Gray Man drops on Netflix this Friday.

The Boss is a grandpa.

Bruce Springsteen‘s wife and band mate, Patti Scialfa, took to Instagram over the weekend to announce the arrival of the latest addition to the Springsteen clan: Lily Harper Springsteen, the daughter of their youngest son, Sam.

Scialfa posted a pair of photos: the first, a black-and-white shot of Sam, who’s a New Jersey firefighter, with his fiancée wheeling a baby carriage; the second, a color pic of Lily wearing a pink hat and pink mittens.

The photos, captioned “walking the baby” followed by a yellow flower emoji, drew congratulatory messages from Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello, Eddie Vedder‘s wife Jill and Sting‘s daughter Mickey Sumner, among others.

The baby is Bruce and Patti’s first grandchild.
